Excelllent resort!

Excellent experience. Very fast check in, and help was available on very corner. Great food variety, and a very rich entertainement program. Great room service, the fridge was alwasy fully stocked, aaand AMAZING beach!!

Would not go back

Food was bad, service was really bad, nice beach but so does every resort in Cuba.... Stay away. I had to ask 7 different people for an extra bottle of water, the front desk people were rude and unhelpful, no one ever answered the helpline of dinner reservation lines, could not get clean towels or sheets most days.... Etc. I have been to Cuba 7 times and this was by far the worst resort!!!!

Lovely Resort

We stayed at Melia La Dunas from March 29th until April 5th and would rate this resort overall between a 4.5 and 5 stars! I have previously stayed at Starfish (known as Barcelo at the time) in Cayo Santa Maria and another resort in Varadero years ago. As well, I've visited Mexico and Dominican Republic. The highlights of Melia La Dunas were the A La Carte restaurants, especially the Italian and Romantica which we found to be better quality even than the Bahia Principe in Mayan Riviera, Mexico. T [... read more]he Oriental was also quite good and surpassed the similar restaurant in Mexico. We really enjoyed the dancing to live bands and d.j. in the courtyard and in the disco. The beach was breathtaking as noted in most reviews and there were no signs of jellyfish anywhere. We thoroughly enjoyed the Catamaran excursion which included a dolphin encounter and snorkeling. I don't snorkel, but jumped in for a swim anyways and was still able to view some colourful fish without a mask. The only negative was the buffet which could be a bit repetitive by the end of the week. I would definitely recommend this resort and would love to return.

Disappointed

The resort its not bad! The service sucks! The room had a leak the walls full of molds,the curtains falling off the hocks I had to fix it myself,asq for change no chance was the answer the hotel is full. The floor was clean once all week ,blue tootpaste on the sink all week ,no new room towels on last two days,cortesy room to take shower on last day with no towes or shampoo or soap. The food quality ,OK nothing special, quantity, OK too. Alacarte Italian,bad ,French,OK gourmet :-( . Wonderful and relaxing

Large resort that accommodates families and adults alone on opposite sides of the resort. Stunning beach. Food above average for Cuba. Service good. Difficulty getting towels and linen changed but think that is a problem throughout cayo Santa maria, not just at melia las dunas.

Most Amazing Beach!!!

Resort was beautiful. (Although it takes about 90 minutes from the airport) Rooms were nice, clean and spacious. The grounds were very well kept, as well as the pool, restaurants and bars. Speaking of bars, the lobby bar was fabulous!! Drinks were awesome! Ask for almost anything and they will make it for you! :). Great friendly staff! Great time

Weather, Beach, resort all amazing ! Beer garden had amazing morning breakfast. A lot of different food options which was a great option. Would highly recommend. The staff was very friendly and made sure we had everything we asked for. Make sure to catch the staff that fills ur fridge u can always request extra water beer or rum

Best Holiday Ever

Grounds are immaculate. Food was delicious. Bar staff quick to acknowledge you and remember what your favorite drinks are. Pool towels were readily available. Rooms are clean and have plenty of towels. Everyone was happy to help you.

Really nice staff & beach

Overall the resort was lovely. The rooms can use an update. But for a family friendly resort the activities started really late. 9:30 for the night show it late for middle age children. Overall it was ok

Nice resort for the price.

Very large resort - lots of walking. Regular shuttle service would be a great benefit (i.e. shuttle stops at regular, timed intervals). Limited views from balcony's regardless of location. Good a la carte restaurants. Very large buffet - great selection for lunch and dinner. Rooms o.k. but day to day maid service was inconsistent in terms of cleaning. Pool area very nice and quiet on the adult side of the resort. No need to get up early and reserve lounge chairs but one's located under bamboo um [... read more]brellas go fast. One day with no a/c or running water in the room. Spa and gym are very far away from the adult side of the resort. Beautiful beach - very busy. Daily entertainment and shows were very good. Staff were excellent. Keep patio door closed to prevent small lizards from entering the room and climbing the walls.

A large resort

Spectacular beach. Lots of entertainment. Rooms were fine, however, toilet paper was somewhat of an issue. Had to give a gift to a maid in the main lobby to get an industrial size roll so we wouldn't keep running out. Food was good. Lots of variety and lots of restaurants to choose from. Too bad its such a long bus ride from airport to hotel. This is somewhat of a deterrent, however, it gives you a chance to see sights along the way.

The host staff were friendly and mostly helpful. The food at the main buffet was average and the specialty restaurants were good The public restrooms through out the resort were under serviced and at times disgusting. The towel supply at the pool area was poorly stocked the bar and host staff were great. We arrived at 10PM in the evening to find our room door ajar and the A/C turned down to 15 degrees C. Our room floors were not swept everyday. We put all of our used bath towels in the bathtub o [... read more]n day 3 so the cleaner could supply fresh. They did not they removed the bath mat and hand towel & hung the bath towels up on the towel bar Gross! when we notified guest services they brought us 1 worn out (but clean) hand towel. Not ideal for 2 people showering the next day. The bed was poorly made each day- bottom sheet not stretched smoothed before being tucked in. The picture on the bathroom wall had broken shards of glass place back in the frame.

Nice place

The grounds were beautiful, very large hotel. Rooms were nice and big. Maids did a great job. Adult pool area was nice and relaxing. Kids area a bit of a zoo. Very happy they were seperated. Beach was beautiful, but no washrooms close by. Shows were nice and courtyard entertainment was fun but repetitive song list. My only complaint was the lobby bar. They need about 10 more bartenders on staff in the evenings. The poor guys were just swamped. Some nights you may have stood there for half an hou [... read more]r or more to get a drink. This bar and the 24 hour snack bar were the only bars open at night, and with the size of the resort it was not enough.

Good resort

We we're a family of 4. The site was nice but could have been better taken care of. There was a few maintenance issues. We had a leak in our bathroom and it took 3 calls to fix it. But the staff was very friendly. The flight was the big problem for us 8 hours delayed to go and 6 hours delayed for the return flight (sunwing) need I say more..

Very nice for the most part.

The hotel was really pretty good. The lobby bar was great. Probably the resort's nicest feature. Room was fine except for the bed. It was really poor. Bed springs poking through the mattress. Food was so-so. On a par for Cuba. The beach was fabulous. Made up for anything not so great.

Great potential

Grounds are gorgeous, variety of beautiful plants and blooming flowers! Rooms are spacious, mostly clean, but poor ventillation, air conditionning barely working and a very strong smell of humidity. Beds are not very comfortable and linens although clean, had holes in them. A new ventilation system and new beds & linens would work wonders! Food was pretty good for Cuba, lots of variety, but again, the ventilation near the buffet in the back of the restaurant wasn't working properly and tables at [... read more] that end were in a smoky area. The front of the restaurant was better and the air much more breathable. Staff very courteous, friendly and wanting to please for the most part! The beaches are hard to beat, gorgeous turquoise waters and beautiful sandy beach, but could use more huts for shade. Not a pool person, so can't really rate pools except to say there were 2 big pools which looked nice. Overall good vacation with potential to be great if a few changes take place. Especially ventilation. Would recommend depending on which friend.

Amazing place

the room was clean, the staff are amazing, the resort is beautiful and the food was good. i had been told not to expect good food, but there was a huge variety of food, different places to eat and was not disappointed. the resort is very very clean and ALL the staff were amazing, friendly and i would go back there in a min.

Best resort in Cuba stayed at

Great selection of food specialty restaurants were great favourite was the pasta made with wine garlic and rose sauce yummy, great water sports only complaint was thistles in the sand. The beds were actually comfortable wish I brought my own pillow but than again I'm extremely picky when comes to the pillow. It was an enjoyable vacation and definitely will be going back again. Simply Awesome!

Visited March 13 to 20 with my two children (4 yrs and 7 mths). Best beach I have ever seen, kids pool was wonderful, and no problem finding a variety of food for all tastes. Staff even supplied us with a crib and cot for the kiddies. I would recommend and return to this resort.
