Nice resort

Very good resort ... food is good the only thing there's no sufficient clean towel for the beach .....i will come back to the same hotel (memories) next year ....I hope that .......activities inside the hotel are amazing

Amazing resort

The resort was beautiful...grounds were well maintained, rooms clean, friendly people, great food....the pool area was amazing...there was always something to do if your wanted or just relax by the pool or the beach...

Cuba 2015

We had a lot of fun, especially our kids, our boy 24 and our daughter 19 had an amazing time and met so many people, we lucked out with incredibly warm weather, the hotel was what we expected as it was a 4 star hotel. I'm the foodie of the family and the food just wasnt the best for me, but because they had blue cheese and fresh bread I was then good, my family had no issues with the food, overall a pleasant resort, good place to visit with people on a budget as it was pretty affordable

Wonderful

Sometimes frequent bathroom issues like poor flushing and wet floors and the odd long wait for a drink don't hurt the overall excellent service of this wonderful resort. Amazing time at Memories Varadero. Most of the time I was off-resort anyway experiencing Cuba! The beach was at a prime spot too.

Great time!

Let me just start off by saying the resort is beautiful. Very family friendly. I just wish the employees spoke and understood English a bit more. When I checked in at 10:00pm the room phone and A/C were not functional. By morning both were fixed. I stayed here at the end of last may and again this year Jan 1 to the 8th. The food durrastically improved. My kids didn't have any sickness or complaints. Of course I only allowed them to eat what we were accustomed to back home. Entertainment was grea [... read more]t. Pool beach buffet and restaurant staff were excellent. Minus the language barrier. The only things that were annoying is those little ants crawling all over our bathroom sink and the beach towels were never available when we needed them. I had terrific time with my kids and I will be visiting again! Thank you so much for your hospitality!

Never stay in this resort again

The whole family were there for Xmas, we had four rooms 2 in on building close to lobby and 2 rooms were very far, close to the beach, very inconvenience. We asked to switch the rooms, they did not. No hot water for last 2 days.problem with rooms including TV,balcony door, shower, Food quality was extremely low and dishes was unwashed and food was still stick to it, Infact 3 of us got sick plus many more people in the resort. It does not even deserve one star.

Nice Resort

Positives: Room Location: We were in unit 34 which was amazing as we were by the beach and the activity pool which our boys loved. The hotel grounds were clean and well maintained The entertainment on the beach and activity pool was great BUT they have to make sure to choose music with no swearing as this is a family resort The food variety was good and servers were attentive. Negatives: The rooms need major renovations. The beds were hard as rocks and we had to ask many times for clean towels  [... read more]and water. They were overbooked so line ups were long and service was slow unless you went right when restaurants opened or early in the morning to the lobby There were several times when the grill bar by the beach ran out of food ( fresh fish and meat to grill) The life jackets had broken zippers so I was afraid to let my boys do too many water activities.

Average resort

Food: there is an abundance of food in the main cafeteria, however, most meats are overcook (hence very tough) and flavorless. Your best bet for decent meat is to wait in line for one of the grill where they will cook what you want, the way you want. There is a very good choice of fresh bread that you cut yourself. The choice of fresh fruit is fairly limited, with bananas usually present, sometimes pineapple, mango, and melon. Restaurants: only went to the French restaurant, which was fairly goo [... read more]d but I would not say it was authentic French cuisine, but the steak was Fresh if not overdone (we should have expected that). Pools: only 2 pools, a quiet one and an animated one. On the animated one, there is a waterslide about 2 stories high where there is usually only a short lineup so you can go until you are tired. Beach: sand was clean, large amount of seashells if your kid is into that stuff. Water was a bit cold as it is December after all. There is a bar and a mini cafeteria fairly close. Bars: bars are placed in strategic locations but many of them close early. Top shelf whiskey available for extra, otherwise everything is bottom shelf. Bring you own drinking mug if you plan to drink beer as their plastic cup are tiny (about 1/3 to 1/2 beer, so you need 2-3 to say you had 1 bottle). Internet: this is Cuba, so the speed is slower than a dial-up modem (seriously). If you go in the evening, you will probably not be able to connect as there will be too many people for the connection. Early morning is probably the best time. Lobby: big, with lots of seating if you want to have a drink there or sit with your computer for Internet. There is a fresh Pina Colada station there in the morning. Front desk personnel: very helpful and responsive, always smiling. Excursion agent: the lady there was fantastic, helpful and smiling. This is where you want to book daily excursions such as a private car and tour guide for Havana or for diving. We did 2 dives: the first in Coral Beach, about 20 minute drive from resort. Location was ok, lunch not included. Second dive was in the Bay if Pigs, about 2 1/2 h drive on the other side of the island. Location was slightly better, equipment was more recent as well. I would suggest you bring long sleeved compression pants and shirt as there is a large amount of jelly fish some times. There was a shipwreck we visited on the 2nd dive (outside only as we are Open Water divers). After our 2 dives in the Bay, we headed for lunch (included) before heading back to the resort. This was by far THE BEST MEAL we had. Tiny place, we we only 8 people including our driver and our instructor. We had great soup (I am not a soup fan), then we had duck, fish, deer, alligator, and shrimp, along with rice and sweet potatoes. We also had freshly squeezed guava juice which was delicious (there was some at the resort as well, but it was tasteless). We went to Havana with a private driver named Oscar Moronta, as well as a tour guide whose name we forgot but was very good and spoke perfect English. Oscar's car was one of the best maintained we have seen, both inside and out. Lots of people took pictures of it. I would recommend him. Kids club: we dropped our son (6 yo) there when we went diving. He did not want to go, but when we picked him up at the end of the day, he did not want to leave which I guess is a good sign. Rooms: size was ok but they look dated a bit. Cleaning was done every day but floor always seemed dirty. Toilets are not that great there, but everything was functional. You just need to have moderate expectations as this is Cuba.

Clean and friendly

very nice resort. Upgraded to diamond club and enjoyed the extra perks for a nominal fee. the beach is second to none. can walk for miles. resort needs more lights on pathways at night because it is very dark and intimidating. good food. Japanese is entertaining and delicious. skip the Italian. Memories dinner good too but no dinner show.

Memories for all the wrong reasons

Run down, huge quality and staff motivation issues, cockroaches restaurant floor, no towels for 4 days, overall I would not recommend to anyone. I understand that there are cultural differences (ie socialism) and embargo issues, however, the ability to properly cook a meal does not depend solely on this

Memories cuba

Very nice. Not a new hotel just has been renamed so a little misleading. Only complaint around hotel is the "male" pool and beach staff were found to be harassing asking for articles trying to sell cigars or sat trips.

A Vetry Good first vacation

This was the first vacation for my 2 daughters aged 10 and 9. I have been to Cuba 6 other times but never with my children. We had a wonderful time. the pools were clean and fun, the beach was wonderful. The staff at the bars were very accommodating and were quite good with children. The rooms were clean, and stocked each morning. The one area of improvement I would recommend is the main buffet restaurant. The staff were not as responsive as I am used to, and I found the variety of food was not  [... read more]a wide range. Overall the trip was very good, and when asked, my children would go back to the same resort.

It was pretty good.

The hotel was good. The grounds are big. My husband does not walk the greatest and sometimes it was a long walk to get somewhere. There are the the little trains but when we needed it it was not always there. The service at the hotel was good. Special the Diamond club. Food was not always the best but that is not a problem for me since I like to enjoy the country and the beach.

Good times

The Memories Varadero Hotel grounds were well maintained. We stayed near the middle to end of November 2014. They were prepping all the water fountains around the resort for the high season. The water fountains that were running looked great. The rooms were decent. They were always clean and our fridge was always well stocked, and the bathroom amenities were nice. The food at the resort was typical for Cuba, not great but not horrible. The Janpanese restaurant was by far the best one going.

Good Resort

This resort was good. You get what you pay for. The grounds are clean. The pools are fun. Swim up bar at the entertainment pool awesome. Thanks to Wilson. All the staff friendly at this bar. Rooms fair. Entertainment staff fun. David...Adam...Yourdi. Service slow at lobby bars. Need better selection at buffets. More spice needed to food. Very bland. By the end of the week everyone asking for stuff for their family or themselves.

Average , dated

Food wasn't as good , found the resort a little dated, shuttle cars damaged ( headlights missing, cracked windshields , bumpers smashed in) food was salty , greasy and seemed like same vegetables and fruits everyday . Room was ok bathroom was moldie , cigarette burns and maid left patio door open when cleaning ( mosquitoes entered my partners legs eaten alive)

Amazing resort

Its very beautiful. I love it! I would like to go again someday in the future with my family. The beach was amazing, I love the food its something I never ate before. The dance show its okay I liked it. Love the view everywhere :) love the classic cars. Everything was Fun had a great time. :)

Great resort.

Clean, excellent service, well maintained beach, shade for all, safe. Could use a few fixes. Our toilet didn't work, beach buffet needs to be redone, tables were wobbly, layout isn't the best. I would recommend this hotel because it has everything you need to relax which is the point right? Great people, excellent beach front, in a clean space :)

Great over all

The food was good everyone ate well, entertainment was great, kids had great time. The only problem was our bed not the best quality but clean service was good the beach was great we were on the private side loved it we want to go back.....

Great resort!

Resort was great in most ways, room was always cleaned properly, never had bugs, rust or any stains on the bed sheets. A/C worked really well the entire stay. Food was a little bland which you would expect in Cuba but variety was good and the a la carte restaurants were great. Staff was helpful and nice most of the time with quick service except at the buffet restaurant.
