This hotel is awesome for the price, really cheap for a 5 star resort. Great fishing from shore walking distance from resort. The beach is just a collection of water breaks designed to slow the waves down, not very appealing, ok for kids. to rough outside of breaks to snorkel. The only other complaint I have is the premier staff are always out in the middle of the entrance ways hounding the guests to attend there package meeting. We were accosted multiple times a day, to the point we started [... read more]to avoid the area, and really only went thru that zone when we were going to eat at the buffet. all in all a great place to go will be going back for years to come.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Great resort for families
Traveled to Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro from Dec 11 to Dec 16. Check in was quick and simple. The experience was good for the price. Please note that this is really not a 5 star resort more like 4 star for really good 4 star.
Room: The room was big and they even gave us a crib. Issue: the air conditioning was weak and the air quality in the room was not too great. Whole family would sneeze and cough until we left the room. I was planing to ask them to switch to a different room but read other[... read more] reviews on this site that it was a nightmare process and was not really worth with it with a baby.
Grounds: Beautifully maintained. Huge resort, lots of things to see and do. Too many mosquitoes though, so make note of that if you are pregnant of have little kids (take bug spray).
Facilities: Pretty much has everything: Spa, many pools (kid and baby friendly ones too), restaurants, kids' water park etc.
Staff: Absolutely great. Most of them took good care of us.
Food: Not bad, most of the items are good and you can always find something to eat at the buffet. The chef was kind enough to even give us whole avocado for our 10 month of boy. Only complaint: the carving station's meat was always too dry.
Beach: Beautiful to look at look at but too many people at the time we traveled. The 'premium' section is too big, they need a bigger regular section. There was lot of see weed in the water at the time we traveled.
Would I travel there again? Maybe if the room's air quality was controlled a bit better.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Great Resort
We stayed in the adult only section of the resort, building 83. The rooms were spotless, large and the king size bed was very comfy. We had dinner at five a la carte restaurants all very good, the seafood restaurant Furtos del Mar was exceptional! Breakfast and lunch at the buffets offered many choices. Our only complaint with the resort was with the beach chairs in the adult only section. Although there were signs on each cabana stating no reserving, guest did so anyways and the staff did [... read more]not monitor. Towels were placed on chairs and guests wouldn't show up for several hours later. We found after a few days we need to wake up at 6:00 am to reserve beach chairs, not much fun! Lastly, our check out time was at 7:00 am, it would have been nice if Air Transat Holidays worked with the hotel to ensure coffee and a light breakfast was available before we left the resort and drove 90 minutes to the airport.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Very good overall
The hotel was beautiful. By far the most modern and current style. It was much better than the junky hotel we stayed at in Toronto when we did the park, sleep and go. The beach was nice. Shallow but decent. You can walk further from the resort and go into other beaches including nude beaches. Just keep on walking and you'll find it. The food was great. Entertainment at night was decent. No fun activities on the beach like we experienced in the Dominican. All of the fun stuff was done by the pool[... read more], which we did not spend much time there. The pools were clean and nice, but we can swim in the pool here in Canada. So we didn't waste our time at the pool. Still nice to look at though. Not really anything bad to say about this place. The only reason I didn't give this place five stars is that the beach was not deep enough for me. Also I was expecting some fun entertainment at the beach. There wasn't any. As much as I like to lay down and relax, I missed the entertainment aspect on the beach. I've been to 3 star resorts, and would go back because of the entertainment value the staff provided. That was lacking a bit on this trip. But still good.

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Nice resort
Nice big rooms, clean property
Easy check in, friendly staff. Food was quite good. Enjoyed the beach and pool area. Unfortunately, a little large for us as we prefer smaller resorts. Pool and beach service was good

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Beautiful Place but just so you know
Booked this hotel as it offered a 5 day package as we couldn’t be away for a whole week right before Christmas and reviews were very good. We flew in to Puerto Plata - a 3 hour drive if nobody missed their hotel stop or their connecting bus etc. Not hotels fault but made for a very long day. Great reception, got a ride to our room and went to buffet after 12 hours of hurry up and wait. There were a couple things that I had trouble getting a straight answer from reviews. 1. There is only free [... read more]wifi in the main lobby and there is no coffee in the
morning, some bar service in the evening. 2. The safe in your room needs a key and you need to pay to use it. That said our stuff was safe in our room all week but I would rather lock up my valuables. 3. There is no swim-up bar. There would need to be another pool as neither the activity pool or the quiet pool would lend themselves for this.
Our room was great, I had emailed ahead for a king bed and we got one, thank-you. We never went to any alacartes but the buffet was good. Repetitive but the service was relatively good and good food. Lots of seating areas in the “off-lobby†areas and good bar-wait service. Activity pool was loud and busy, quiet pool was awesome except for some patrons that tried to make it their personal party pool. Thanks to bartender Franco and the security staff the boom box and their boisterous behaviour was shut down. Great beach at this hotel, lots of chairs, easy swimming, good snorkelling, and walking for miles. We were impressed with most aspects of this hotel and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet holiday.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Mosquito alert!
Third visit to Punta Cana, resort is pristine and the staff work tirelessly to maintain the appearance. Food was great, wide variety of menu options and restaurant themes. Entertainment (Animation) staff were hard-working and friendly. Top marks to Alexander and Luis! The beach was more crowded than I remember, and it took me several days to orient myself within the resort.
The construction site next door to the resort made our first night unpleasant, a situation the staff had no control over,[... read more] although they moved us to another room the next day. This was slightly less well appointed, but acceptable. The turn-down service, although unexpected and thoughtful, was sporadic, and the room was not consistently re-stocked. Our biggest problem was mosquitoes. Despite waging war on the critters every evening, they plagued us at night. We kept our doors closed as much as possible, but there was no relief from the nuisance. By the time we left the D.R. I was covered in ugly red lumps, not the kind of souvenir I wanted.
The front desk and Guest Services staff we dealt with were courteous but understaffed, we spent more time waiting for service than I would have liked. Our arrival was disappointing, confusion and disorganization made the check in process long and frustrating.
We were lured into attending a "Presentation" that was supposed to last an hour, showcasing an offer to visit the resort's latest development. This is actually a pretty hard-sell for a very expensive travel agency service operated by Bahia Principe in conjunction with major credit card providers and others in the leisure industry. We lost an entire morning to this exercise before the true nature of the offer was revealed. The offer may be irresistible to some, but I felt the invitation was presented dishonestly.
On the whole, we had a good holiday, but the resort has become so vast that I felt we, as guests, were simply a commodity to be processed and smiled at.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Terrible
Stayed at this resort from December 7th-14th. We booked three rooms. Requested second floor, all with double beds and connecting rooms or at least close to each other. Upon arrival we were all first floor. One room had double beds we requested and the other two rooms
Had one king bed. The rooms were not close to each other and they were facing the massive construction of a new hotel being built beside it. We requested new rooms but were not given any. They said they could put a cot in on[... read more]e of the rooms that had three of us staying in it. The cot never arrived... my daughter slept on the couch for 7 days. After complaining to the reception desk management phoned my room. I told him my concerns. I asked that at least my room be moved as soon as possible considering the construction was loud and I had about twenty workers
Right outside my patio door. Nothing was blocking the view into my room besides blackout curtains. I also requested a cot for the room of three. He said he understood and would get back to me. He never got back to me. I listened to construction at all hours. The hotel was not busy so I’m still not sure why my room was never moved or why a cot never arrived.
Service at the Ambar Green was by far the worst of any resort I have stayed at. You could sit in the lobby or the outside sitting area for an hour and never see a beverage server. For the most part if you wanted a drink you had to go to the bar and get one. If the nightlife was happening the wait at the bar was at least 15 minutes. The days I spent at the pool I was served maybe two drinks a day, the rest I had to walk to the pool bar. Even during breakfast lunch and dinner it was a long wait. Two days of the seven I just went and poured my own coffee because I was tired of waiting. Maybe I’ve just been lucky at other resorts with the service, I’m not sure but I don’t think this is normal for a five star resort.
I’m use to problems with aggressive vendors on the beach but not in the resort itself. The little shopping area they have in the middle of the resorts is full of aggressive vendors. I went the third day and never went back.
The beds were extremely uncomfortable. I thought maybe it’s just me but all 7 of my group found the beds terrible.
My daughters room had two cockroaches in it. Now I know all resorts have them but seeing them is disgusting! Out of the three rooms only one room seen them: we told the room attendant and she scooped it up and put it down the drain.. ran water and then flipped a cup upside down over the drain..:. Apparently problem solved.
Trolley service was confusing. We would say could you take us to the Esmeralda and they would say no you have to go two blocks over and get a trolley there. Everywhere we wanted to go we were never at the right spot. This happened all week. So be prepared for tons of walking!
On a good note for this resort...food was good. Rooms were a good size and the washrooms were nice.
Entertainment was really good and the entertainers were always trying to interact with you.
This is the first time I have had a bad experience at a hotel and we travel every year with a group of 7-9. My husband really wanted to try a Bahia Principe. I can honestly say I will never stay at the Ambar Green again or any Bahia Principe after this experience. I save all year to take this yearly trip so I’m not a spoiled picky person.
If you are staying at this resort anytime soon ask for a pool facing room so you don’t have to look at and hear construction during your stay. Cross your fingers and hope they listen to your request

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Expected more
The staff were awesome, friendly and did an amazing job of making the stay upbeat and pleasant. Did not think this hotel was a "4", maybe a weak "3". Older complex that was maybe a gem in its hay day but the glitter is gone. WIFI was almost non existent, phone did not work, took 2 days to get the remote control fixed after three calls to concierge. Mosquitos in the room every night. Toilet did not flush properly. Not the kind of things you would find in a "5" star. I guess I was expecting more.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Beautiful resort. Great location
Beautiful resort. Very clean and immaculately maintained. Staff friendly and helpful. Good adult only section and tram service top notch. Water very rough yellow flag up every day. Beach was raked every day. Some hawkers selling their wares but they didn't harrass you. Don't bother doing the Privilege tour. Waste of your day

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Great Resort
We stayed there ( Luxury Bahia Principe ) from Dec. 5th. to Dec. 12th. and had a great time! The staff was very friendly and all spoke English. Beach was very clean and usually calm in the man made lagoon.
We were disappointed that the resort didn't put wash clothes in our room unless we asked each day and even then, didn't always get any. ( we always tip the maids.)
The staff ( usually only one person for the large crowd ) came around to take drink orders in the lobby bar very infrequ[... read more]ently, although we always tipped them each time when they did show up. It was a lot quicker to walk to the bar and order directly if you could get near it.
All said, it is a very nice place with good food and with a few tweaks would make my rating of 9 / 10 to a full 10 / 10.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Lovely resort
The buildings and grounds are kept immaculately and the staff are absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious whether you were eating at the buffets or a la cartes. We spent most of our time on the adult only beach which was very relaxing and enjoyable. The activities staff on the beach facilitated yoga, stretching, fun games and Spanish classes.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Not quite what it used to be, but still okay
Cleanliness has declined:
1. We had a small leak in the bathroom ceiling, which was quickly attended to. However, a fair bit of material from inside the ceiling fell onto the bathroom floor during the repair. This debris remained on the bathroom floor for the next 3 days (the remainder of our stay), even though the maid was in to clean the room daily. Clearly, the bathroom was never swept or mopped.
2. The phone receiver smelled like it had been used for a colon exam.
3. Bed sheets were no[... read more]t changed regularly. I spilled some lotion on the bed, which again, remained for days.
The grounds were very well-maintained.
Staff were okay. Some very nice and friendly, some not so much.
Food was good. Something for everyone and a good selection.
Free internet - the worst I've ever experienced. Extremely slow, when working. Not adequate for FaceTime.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Vacation of a lifetime
My wife and I just spent a week in Paradise. We went to celebrate our 49 wedding anniversary. At Bahai Principle Green. On our arrival, there was a banner on the door signalling our anniversary and a bottle of bubbly with two glasses near by. And it only got better
Will definitely return
