VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Nice

Overall, the hotel was quite nice! The grounds were well kept. The public areas were clean. The rooms were decent(even though our room was not properly cleaned upon checkin, there were empty bottles & dirty glasses in our room upon arrival). The dining areas were clean & inviting. We really enjoyed the a la carte restaurant "octopus " . The only negative issues were the bathrooms behind the ocean grill restAurant at the beach, they never worked properly, rarely flushed & sometimes no running wat [... read more]er in sinks. Also, it was a shame that right after the evening shows every night, there would only be about 20 minutes of music played & then silence, it would have been nice to play some softer music so that guests could sit back with friends & enjoy the night rather than be encouraged to end the night right awAy & go to bed!!! New Years eve set up in dining area & pool deck with live band was well organized!

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Awsome Resort!

Place was just gorgeous, clean, entertaining, relaxing, energetic. Truly a paradise! Food was delicious and choices were lots, sure to satisfy any finicky person. My first time at a resort and can not imagine a better place. Was I in heaven?

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Was as expected

This hotel was as expected. The grounds are very nice and clean, the beach is beautiful and based on what friends have said of resorts close by, I think it may be the best stretch of beach in that area. Food was good, the a la cartes were slightly disappointing and no better quality than the buffet. The rooms were clean and the housekeeper was great. Nightlife on this resort is lacking, there is nothing after about 11pm. Also, it is very, very hard to get lounge chairs in the pool area. We didn' [... read more]t have a chance to enjoy the pool area until the last day and that was only because we took towels off chairs that were there unused for several hours. The resort staff should enforce a time limit on how long towels can remain holding up chairs.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: TERRIBLE RESORT *FOOD POISONING*

this resort is described as a 4 plus star however they should be lucky to have 3 stars. I am a sous chef with many years experience and I have to say I am very upset about what the hotel actually looked like when I got there. The food for one is about 2 Star service our first day there i found toilet paper in the iceberg lettuce at the snack bar. The second day we ate and at night I started throwing up and having severe stomach cramps with diarrhea about 4 hours after i ate. This is what food po [... read more]isoning feels like. I was sick for 4 days and my boyfriend was sick two days after me. On our last day we were both feeling better and finally went to go eat we bit into a piece of chicken nugget only to see RAW COMPLETELY RAW chicken inside! SALMONELLA is no joking matter and at that moment I knew why we were sick. The problem is that nobody really cared SUNWING adviser laughed in our face saying it was probably outside food. (we didnt eat outside) All in all NOT RECOMMENDED whatsoever. The drinks are also quite terrible, the wine undrinkable, and the grounds havent been very well maintained since the resort has opened it seems. GOOD LUCK!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Wonderful Week!!

Just got back from a wonderful week away! My husband and I went with our two daughters, their boyfriends and my Mother. A good time was had by all! There was definitely something for everyone on our diverse group. We were at the resort for New Years Eve and they went all out-- one of the best New Years I've had to date!! Another day the whole group went out on the catamaran excursion and had such a great time. It was nice to get out on the water and see enjoy the beautiful scenery! The rooms were fantastic and the hardworking staff was friendly and always willing to help in any way.We enjoyed the buffet as well as the restaurants on site. Overall, I would highly recommend! A beautiful, very clean resort. Great staff, great food. Lots to do even if what you choose to do is nothing at all! There are many quiet sections on the beach for total peace and relaxation as well as quiet pools. Thank you for a fabulous time. Look forward to returning!!

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Wonderful access for handicap needy

We found our room to be adequate. Unfortunately we asked for a handicap room with at least a grab bar in the shower and didn't get one so they brought a bath chair. Which collapsed on a daily basis. Our travelling companions found their room very noisy.

Paradise Playa Dorada: Very relaxing stay

Easy transfer from Airport, we were greeted with a cool drink , Rooms Room was facing the Ocean -Amazing view, AC did not work with the card they give you so called and within 10 min gave me a new card ----worked like a charm .Rooms were clean and bed comfy, Make sure you ask for a remote for the TV when checking in or as soon as you can , they are not in the rooms and apparently in DR thier is a TV remote shortage, Food & Drinks Only ate at the Buffet , it was very good always a new entre avai [... read more]lable-i.e Turkey -chicken , ham, Roast Beef----,Service was good , no complaints, Mainly drank Beer and wine , very cold ( bring a bubba or travel mug very small cups) Beach very nice , great view , you can walk for miles , Vendors can get a little tiresome but simple no thanks and they leave My Wife and i wanted a nice relaxing do nothing but sit on the beach and have a few drinks vacation , for the price we paid it did the trick

Paradise Playa Dorada: Loved the Resort!

The hotel was very nice, rooms clean, food was great! and very friendly staff! The beach was amazing, all sand no rocks, the only annoying part were the people on the beach that kept trying to sell us stuff.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Amazing and beautiful resort

This was the best vacation so far. Resort is absolutely beautiful and very clean. The food was absolutely amazing with many different varieties for all kinds of tastes. The staff are very friendly and outgoing and professional. The room was very clean and the resort was family friendly with activities during the day/night to entertain even the younger crowds. We had a problem with the water pressure in our shower which we called the front desk. They fixed the problem by the time we returned from [... read more] the beach and called a few times to make sure that it had been fixed and was working fine. They truly care for their customers and we will be booking our vacation with lifestyle resorts again in the future! The resort is full of hills and stairs so it is not the place for people with mobility issues. There is a shuttle bus that comes around every 10-15 minutes and golf carts for VIP members that will help you get around. We truly enjoyed our stay and recommend it!

It was good overall. GOOD: - Food was awesome and they accommodated and cooked food without salt or oil for our baby. - Staffs were kind. - Pool was clean and well kept. - The games and small activities are going on throughout the day and that kept us busy and fun. - I loved the mini shows done by kids. We didn't get to see the night shows till the end because of our baby, but from what I have observed, I think they were okay. - The room was well cleaned. - wished that we had more towels becaus [... read more]e we had a baby. - Common areas are clean and well kept. BAD: - Beach was not very clear because they had a lot of seaweed and corals. But because of that, we were able to see some fish! - Swimming pool was cold. - We had a room facing poolside and we liked it, but it can get loud if something is going on at the pool. Two nights when we were there, there was a wedding and the music was SOOO loud. I think many people had issued with it too. - Our in-room fridge was not working properly, we had it replaced and the same thing happened again. I had to call 5 times before someone come by to fix it. That was frustrating. - Specialty dinner was hard to get the spot.

Riu Merengue: Holiday nightmare

I'd love to say that there are any positives, it's been nothing but a horrific experience: the shower head is broken, there was no hot water 3/7 days, power outages meant that there was no breakfast two days in a row; all the power outlets needed adapters, and none of the adapters at the riu store worked (we had to prop them up using furniture.) the AC barely worked, it was humid every night and the ceiling was covered in mold (I woke up stuffy and irritated every morning). The towel service kio [... read more]sk runs out of towels mid day, and the beach chairs are reserved by the other tourists which are nowhere in sight (nowhere to sit). The "a la carte" restaurants can only get booked between 7am and 8am in the morning, otherwise they are full. The staff are grouchy and overworked (some of the bartenders are very nice). Our housekeeping forgets to provide towels, and I had to call for them 50% of the time (no big deal). Shampoo is not provided. Local vendors are allowed to harass you to sell you garbage at the lobby (they are very pushy and very annoying). Everyone including nexus-tours tried anything to get money from you; their general attitude is that we are rich and ungrateful people that need to be scammed (even though we consider ourselves down to earth and friendly). We decided to leave the resort and go to a town called Susua, at a 3 star hotel to spend the remaining week and had a great time.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Christmas Fun in the Sun

7 days of pampering and lounging by the 4 pools and wading into the warm ocean water. Grand Bahia very enjoyable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our newly renovated family suite was perfect for our family. The suite is two regular rooms with an archway through them. Two of everything! 2 showers! 2 balconies, 2 TV's. The grounds were very well maintained. Food was good and plentiful. Special effort was made over the holidays. We wanted quiet and and had no issues finding chairs and natural shade at other pools that were close to the beach. The beach was darker sand and had plenty of interesting shells and coral to discover. Some issues though: bites from sand flies. (Take benadryl). Water not potable. (bottle water was issued daily). Toilet paper not to be flushed. It took 1 hour 15 minutes to get to the resort from the airport. Quite the eye opener as to how the Dominicans live. You are not in Canada anymore. Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Viva Wyndham resort

The rooms were cleaned daily but I had to request clean sheets and towels Good was ok at the buffet but booking the other redrsurants the Italian and mexican was restricted to once per week per room ! No free wifi. Big disappointment Not enough hot water. We felt drinks at the bar were a little weak. And we are not hard core drinkers! Other beach was great. Only free water sport was boogie boards! A little bit of paradise at this resort..only one drawback was the food of course but it was always fresh, nice touch in the buffet was leg of lamb, roast turkey or roast of beef during the week. Always fresh fruit, salads, vegetables..terrific assortment.

Mixed feelings about this resort. Food was good, room clean. - vendors on the beach were annoying - charged you $28US for safety deposit box, $48US for internet - vendors at resort selling time shares - annoying - one key per room - no remotes for tv - disco too close to rooms

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Rocky Start but fantastic from then on

I loved the resort, the grounds were amazing, the pool spotless and gorgeous, I loved the bridges that went over the pool and the different sections. The pool bar staff were great and the drinks were wonderful. There wasn't anything you couldn't get. Our maid Josephina was so lovely, and the decorating she did with flowers and our towels were a treat to see. We went to the Brazilian and the Mexican restaurants and the food was great. We were there for the tree lighting in the lobby with drinks and snacks and a great atmosphere, it was lovely, the children definitely enjoyed it. The staff spent so much time and energy decorating the resort. I was sick the first week - something intestinal - nothing I caught at the resort, more likely on the plane. But the staff were very kind, one young man from the buffet put something together on a plate for me and came up with my husband. He also told me amaretto was very good for a dodgy stomach, so he went over to the snack bar by the beach and brought me back a small glass of amaretto and some herbal tea. It was very touching. I found the staff at this resort very friendly and very helpful, they always had smiles for you, even the grounds people said Hola to you. My husband and I were there for two weeks and the second one was amazing, as I started to feel better. There were a few bumpy patches when we first got there, with our room which they changed for us and it was great. and we had problems with our safe, which finally got straigtened away. Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Enjoyable and Relaxing Trip

We stayed at Be Live Grand Marien from December 4 to 11, 2014. This is the 4th time we visited Dominican Republic, and our 2nd trip to Pureto Plata, this resort is much better than our 1st trip. Hotel room is comfortable, room service is very good and the maid is so friendly. Hotel front desk responded to our request quick, good customer services. During our stay, they upgraded our TV to flat screen TV with satillate channels. We enjoyed the swimming pool, not too crowded. Food at the buffet is good, plenty of varieties, always have new items. The dinner food at Brazilian restaurant, Mexican restaurant and Gourmet restaurant is excellent. Snack bar located at the beach side has varieties of food. We could relax and enjoy at our own pace. Entertainment crew is great, they have different types of performance each night. We will certainly go back to this resort again in the future.

Everything about this resort is pleasant. Very clean . What makes the resort are all the friendly staff. They remember their repeat customers. The beach always has enough chairs. staff are so nice food good grounds kept ex. and nice cold beer EX.resort and priced right nice beach peddlars but a no is all it takes.if you see something you like barter for it most of the time you win.

Paradise Playa Dorada: Great Resort

Second time back to Grand Paradise for me, seventh time for my other half. Obviously we have really enjoyed ourselves. Staff is great, very helpful, rooms are clean, food is good. Premises are well kept. Beach is fabulous...both sides of the resort. Had a wonderful vacation and will return.jo
