Melia Jardines del Rey: Beautiful Beaches
My husband and I visited the last week of February. Weather was perfect.
Beautiful beach, plenty of palapas for shade. Water is lovely.
There is a lack of beach towels so bring your own just in case.
Employees were for the most part friendly and helpful.
Rooms were spacious and kept clean by housekeeping. Bottled water and 2 cans of beer in mini fridge replenished all but one day during our stay.
What I didn't like about the room was the walk in shower. There's no door so water [... read more]floods into room. Terrible design. Shower floor doesn't slope toward the drain.
Buffet - hit and miss. Not much variety. Made to order breakfast omelettes were always good. Coffee in the buffet was not good - need to go to lobby or snack bar for a proper cup (so good). A la cartes were alright. The Cuban restaurant was my favorite, Seafood was okay, service was slow even though there weren't many guests, French had excellent service, however the meal wasn't great (the chicken was overdone).
A fair bit of broken glass around the property, seemed like guests would walk around with their plate of food or a beverage from the bar and leave it wherever on the grounds. I saw the same pile of plates outside our bungalow for days.
Previous reviews mentioning the lack of lighting on paths and algae in the pool were correct. Paths are uneven so if you have mobility issues it could be challenging.
We didn't see all the shows, but the ones that we did see weren't very exciting.
WiFi only available in lobby or snack bars.
We still had fun, and can see the potential for this to be a four star+ but for the price paid I wouldn't recommend.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Gorgeous beach
Overall nice resort! Clean rooms, good food (nothing spectacular), entertainment and activities. As it fairly new (~2 years) I agree with other reviewers who commented on the size of the trees/gardens, ect. Although this is not something to deter you from the resort, the foliage is not lush as it is still newly planted.
I would advise if you are bothered/annoyed with small details then this resort is not for you! For example, the maids missed cleaning our room one day, poor drink service in[... read more] the buffet, buffet food was often mis-labelled or not labelled at all, coffee tasted awful, and mini fridge was empty upon arrival. I recomment bringing your own drink cup, as the disposable cups are very small.
We spent our entire vacation on the beach, it has beautiful white sand and clear water. There are many many many available cabana huts along the beach. The 2 pools are also nice and well kept, went swimming a couple of times - less competition for pool chairs compared to beach chairs. We enjoyed the bowling alley! only 5 pesos per game

Melia Las Dunas: Great Resort!
This is my 3rd time staying at Melia Las Dunas. First time was with friends, second time I took my family including 2 young grandchildren aged 7 and 1. This time I went solo. It is a great spot. The resort is very big so be prepared to do some walking. My room was lovely and clean, and was kept so my entire week there. There were some problems with the water, but apparently the entire island was having issues and it was not a big deal for me. Check in and check out was fast and extremely [... read more]easy. I ate the buffet 90% of the time; you will not starve!! There is always a great selection at every meal and I never ate the same thing twice at supper. The wait staff is very accommodating and always helped me find a small table as I was alone. The pool areas are always busy, but clean and well maintained. The grounds are beautiful and the groundskeepers take huge pride in their work. The beach is awesome, with absolutely the most beautiful water you will ever see or swim in! The evening entertainment is always fun and the main lobby is one of my favourite spots; I went there in the daytime to do some reading and have a drink, and the evenings were great for pre-dinner entertainment. All in all, I really love this resort and am already planning another trip with my family for next winter.

Paradisus Varadero: Paradisus Varadero,Cuba
The resort grounds are beautiful with many royal palms, lots of flowering trees and plants and a large pool. We were very fortunate to have a room in a new section that just opened 8 months ago. Our room was very modern and reminded me of a Swedish look. The beach is one of the best in the area, very large, lots of sand and you are able to walk out a long distance over sand before it gets deep. There was entertainment nightly and the performers were very good. The food was not up to Canadian sta[... read more]ndards and food presentation was not up to our sanitary expectations. I ate lots of pasta for lunch and supper! The rest of the resort is older and we met many couples who had multiple problems with their room, I would only recommend this hotel if asking for the family section which is new part.

Memories Cayo Largo: Beautiful resort
First impression very good, lovely reception area and grounds, spacious rooms, and beautiful gardens. Beaches are so white and fine, probably the nicest we've ever seen but the ocean waves were rough which was fun but a couple of red flag days made swimming difficult. We prefer the ocean but due to high winds could not enjoy it every day. The pools were beautiful too.
The food was good but sometimes variety limited probably due to a small island and not getting regular delivery of product.

Overall a nice place to visit. Although most staff were very nice and helpful, we found some were a little unhappy and disgruntled. We heard they work 20 to 30 long days straight which would make anyone moody.
Best part is proximity to the airport - 5 minutes!

Melia Cayo Coco: Quiet paradise
We had a great stay at Melia Cayo Coco. The grounds were clean and well kept and the staff was very happy and efficient. The lobby at MCC was a lively place for entertainment at night. The beach here seems to be shared with 1/2 other resorts, but it's a huge beach so you can always find a nice spacious spot there. I'd recommend if you are a couple, or older friends who want to just relax in a quiet smaller resort this is definitely the #1 pic in Cayo Coco.

Memories Cayo Largo: Great Beaches!!
If you are looking for great beaches where you can walk for miles, this is the place for you!! Beautiful white sand and crystal clear water. Hotel and rooms a bit dated but kept very clean. Had a standard room on the second floor. Room was spacious and clean. King size bed was comfortable, vaulted ceilings made the room seem bigger than it was. Food was okay in the buffet, could always find something to eat. Staff were very good and friendly, always had a smile and greeted you warmly. Paradisus Varadero: Amazing as always!
This was our 4th stay at this resort. It has been our preferred resort from the first time we went 4 years ago. The food in our opinion is the best available in Cuba. The new family concierge section is beautiful. The staff are extremely friendly and ready to make your stay excellent. Planning our next trip here for late fall.

Hotel Vigia: Nice Beach
It was pretty windy the week we were there so didn't spend much time on the beach but it is long with white sand and blue water (water was a bit cool in March) We could visit two other resorts that are associated with this one during the day also included in the all inclusive. The other two resorts had much better stocked bars (this resort didn't have much in variety of drinks and didn't even have mojitos the first time I asked) the variety of the buffets helped not to get bored of the buffet [... read more]at this resort which would have happened as even the two restaurants on site had the same food as the buffet. While our room was in a quiet area (no disco music) the walls are pretty thin and you can hear your neighbours if they're noisy. we spoke with another guest that had neighbours who played music in their room until 2 am and then had big noisy fights..they complained to mgmt but i'm not sure what happened as we didn't see the guest again.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great Resort
We opted for this resort as we wanted a short flight from TO due to health reasons. We enjoyed our stay and customer service people Enrique, Aziel, Arlietty and Ricardo were all awesome, all though we had no complains to make, we like meeting the staff.
The Lobby bar people were all great especially Alicia who has the best smile and is always super friendly.
Aramis and his son on the beach were awesome, but people took out their frustration on them, as people go at dawn to prebook spots with t[... read more]heir towels, so by 8 am, every shaded spot is taken, and almost nobody on the beach on those spots for hours. The resort should have rules in regards to this.. one hour max or unattended towels will be removed, to make it fair for everyone; same for the pool area. Lots of selfish people..you cannot be in two spots at the same time. Other resorts we have been to have this rule in place, and it works..There are plenty of chairs, but unless you want to be crispy burnt, they are of no use.
Room was large and comfortable and our maid Youdelkis was amazing and we always had a spotless room, towels etc.
Beach towels..folks stop complaining..check out the resort info..it sits on a protected area and all laundry is done 3hrs away at a facility to protect the environment, so don't rely on this, take a beach towel just in case, we always do, not that big a deal.
Food was good, as Cuban fare goes, but we enjoyed the Seafood Rest, the French Rest and the Italian was also fair. The buffet has something for everyone and there is no shortage of a variety of food groups, cheeses, fruit, desserts and they have a 24hour snack bar, ice cream parlour is open till 11pm.
Drinks as per my husband, since I do not drink alcohol, were overall good..the local beer is good, and premium drinks are available, but you have to pay extra.
Grounds are nice and the gardiners are constantly working in the heat to maintain them, so don't forget to show some praise and offer a peso or even a pop from your room, it is well appreciated.
Overall smile, enjoy Cuban hospitality, remember at all times that Cuba is their home therefore respect it and don't forget to tip as they well deserve it and need it.
Overall an awesome holiday and we hope to do it again soon.

Melia Marina Varadero: Great resort
We had a lovely suite at the resort, the grounds are really nice, as are the staff lots of friendly Canadians too
We had a great week!!
There is not a lot of entertainment though which makes it quieter or you need to find your own fun
We ( from Ontario) stayed Mar 2-9 2017. Check in was not very smooth. After waiting at the lobby check in desk we were told to go to the 7 th floor concierge to check in. There he said our room would be #1 priority but we never were given an approx. time. There was supposed to be a welcome drink. We did not get one. Finally got in after a few hours.
We upgraded to THE LEVEL for an additional $200.00 / person. This option included a private a la carte restaurant, complimentary massage, top fl[... read more]oors in 5 or 6. Three days after arriving we got a list of all inclusions for THE LEVEL. We should have gotten this checking in.The complimentary massage which was comprised of 4 units only 2 were available, 1 piece of equipment was not working and 1 tub was not hot, so we passed. They offered nothing in it's place.
The LEVEL food at dinner was very good, for sure a 4 1/2 star, except for the beef. The lobster and salmon, fantastic.Drinks also top shelf. However because of the limited menu, I would suggest they do a daily different evening special to add some variety. Breakfast was a different story. Omelettes not cooked, boiled eggs +1/2 hour, french toast (raw) not grilled, no sausage(it's on the menu), bacon cooked in clumps not strips, no brown bread or ketchup. We've had coffee and juice delivered twice and our order taken out to the balcony by mistake. There's more but you get the picture. Breakfast/lunch both need a new cook/chef. Servers need better overall training and pick up food faster when table ready.
The room definitely was not luxurious. Poor amenities, no handle on the outside of the patio door from the balcony, sliding closet doors were very stiff to open and the safe failed 3x. A tech was called reset it each time. The room was dated and needs total renovation. Beds were comfortable and the TV was great. It's the first time CTV was available on a vacation south.
In the bathroom here were no face cloths, no hand towels, no kleenex, no hooks at the shower and a very small shower rack to put in shampoo, soap etc. into. Maybe the size of 4" x 6"-8" tops.
Tried the buffet a few times. Bacon the same as THE LEVEL only when put in large trays...a lot of bacon fat and not well cooked. Very slow coffee and tea water. Egg stations are a bit slow and more so at peak times, but the food is very good. Again no ketchup but was available our first time in the buffet. Did not do lunch or dinner at the buffet.
The pool areas are nice but found the pool water colder than the ocean. My only complaint would be there are not many shaded areas, and what there was, filled up quickly.
The GRILL food station had very good chicken and the other beach restaurant I did not enjoy. The hamburger was disgusting. We ate there only once.
The beach is quite nice. Beautiful water colour, rolling waves, great sand to walk on, sea shells to pick up, very little sea weed and staff to help you get loungers. Staff however didn't come around very often for drink orders.

Sol Cayo Coco: GREAT RESORT
Everything was good, it is a very small hotel...so everything is close. Beaches are great, pool was nice. The whole hotel was very clean, rooms clean, and must say the lobby bathrooms were extremely clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful...always tried to speak English.
The evening shows were very good......although I do feel that more activities around pool are needed and the hotel should be prepared with activities in case of rain. We did have one rain day which lasted all day and ni[... read more]ght...there was nothing to do but sit in lobby....hotel should of had live entertainment or games.
Food was good although it was the same the whole week we were there....need to be more creative with the left overs???? But didn't go hungry.... The snack bar was good and the staff who ran it were great too.
Thank you for the enjoyable trip.

Melia Las Antillas: Great staff, amazing beach
We stayed at the Melia Las Antillas in Los Tainos Beach. We really enjoyed the "feel" of this resort with several buildings around a central pool. The strength of this resort lies with their staff, always friendly, smiling, helpful and sometimes playful. Food was varied with three on-site restaurants included in the price if one wished to have a change from the main dining area. They also served BBQ at lunch. All in all, we found the food quite good knowing this is often a complaint of visi[... read more]tors to Cuba. Live shows were staged each night and a wide range of music was played in various locations in the hotel ranging from Cuban beats to classical ... all in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Paradisus Varadero: Paradisus Varadero
Room---- I was lucky to have been put in the Family Concierge section which I understand is very new. The room was lovely, and well taken care of as well as the concierge service. On the other hand the rooms in the remaining of the resort were very dated with showers and water that often didn't work. My other family members were moved from this area. I would only recommend the Family Concierge section to stay in.
Resort----- A beautiful property with pool and beach that were exceptional.
Entert[... read more]ainment---- The best evening entertainment of any place I have stayed. Beach entertainment every day at lunch time.
Food---- I was not expecting good food and was not disappointed. Meat tended to be undercooked, and other things quite often were over cooked. The handling of food was questionable as serving utensils were. Not always available especially for the breads. One instance I did observe was serving tongs being dropped on the floor and when a guest passed them to a worker to be replaced she just used them to continue serving food. Food would be my biggest issue with this resort.
Cleanliness----- For the most part things were well maintained but there were times when the pool area should have been swept and tables were very slow to be cleaned up. We did learn that there is only one time and speed and that was Cuban time.
Bedding---- I was in a room with a king size bed that had a sheet that never fit it. There were no hand towels or face cloths and sometimes the bath towel was more like a bath mat.
Staff----- I found them reserved but once they got to know you some of them were wonderful. For the most part everyone was helpful and did the best with what they had to work with. Did hear from another guest about money that was missing to which the hotel refused to do anything about.
Would I Return------ Went mainly to see Havana and chose this resort for the beach and the pool. Probably will not go back to Cuba at all as there are too many other great places to go that are more modern in this time. All in all had a great vacation and from what I heard from others this resort is better than a lot of others. I would recommend it only after telling someone the things I learned. I don't know if it is because of not enough help but general maintenance and repairs were not carried out such as replacing missing toilet seats, broken railings, general things like that and some of this was in the new section.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Beautiful beach you can walk forever
This was a large resort, so be prepared to do some walking. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. The beach was definitely the biggest asset. There was nightly musical entertainment that was very good. In particular, I liked the men's quartet. There was also however, a market place adjacent to the resort, and music played there very loudly until 230 am, and then started again at 7 am. This wasn't my idea of a peaceful vacation. The resort is well laid out, but lighting at night is an [... read more]issue. There are very few of the walkways that are sufficiently lit at night.
The coffee was often cold and weak which is a disappointment for Cuba. The food is improving. On the whole, we had a great holiday. Think it is more suited for the younger set however, because the noise at night was nasty.
