Paradise Playa Dorada: Beach are good !!!

Beach are amazing !!!!! Water soo clean its amazing, hotel are nice, good hot water, clean room, clean facility, waiters are amazing !!!!but front desk they need to learn how to SMILE, to greet the guest !!! Entertainment it's ok, but its not what we expected, food same every day !!!!! They need more variety of choices, swimming pool are small too crowded and its so dirty !!!!

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great Family Getaway!

Very clean, friendly resort. Staff was extremely friendly. Rooms were clean. Really enjoyed our stay. Only negative feedback is that there wasn't much support from the restaurants with regards to food allergies and it took a long time to get assistance from front desk.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: GOOD RESORT(if priced $925.00 or less)

THE RESORT IS ALRIGHT IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT. THE GROUNDS ARE OK THE ROOMS NEED UPDATING BUT ARE KEPT CLEAN THE FOOD IS GOOD, THE VARIETY IS NOT THERE BUT THE QUALITY IS GOOD. WE HAVE GONE 4 TIMES TO THIS RESORT SIMPLY BECAUSE THE PRICE WAS CHEAP - IF IT WERE MORE EXPENSIVE WE WOULD GO ELSEWHERE. OVERALL VERY GOOD IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT. ($925.00 or less) WOULD GO BACK IF IT IS AT THAT PRICE.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Great vacation, was scared at first

We got a great price through trip central the pictures looked awesome and got me hooked. A lot of mixed reviews but decided to book anyways as I was hoping there would be a lot to do and people were wrong. This resort is great!! foods good, people are nice, a lot of pools and bars to choose from. I made sure we got the Noli plus package which got us in a central located suite, which was perfect!! Our room wasn't huge but had a king size bed and large patio which was perfect for us, the buffet is good to but if you are a picky eater I can see why some people may not agree. The drinks I thought were delicious, not watered down or made with not good alcohol. What I noticed is the alcohol and liqueurs they do use are locally made and nothing is wrong with them. My fave drink was the lifestyle party ( milk, grenadine, blue curacao), or the banana mama. Downfall would be the A la carte went to 1 of the 3 simply because we were unable to change them due to time and booking, but wasn't a big deal since we enjoyed the buffet and the buffet had theme nights.Foam party was awesome, VIP party Awesome, Welcome party awesome. We did 2 excursions waterfalls and snorkeling, awesome!!!! I would definitely go back again and if you are having reservations like I did I say don't. Go with an open mind and are laid back you will have fun there is a lot to do and see. Now have been there I feel like the negative reviews come a lot from very picky people who prob travel a lot!! and may compare this resort to better ones they have been too. If you don't like walking or waiting for shuttles then this is not for you, I enjoyed walking around and checking things out also nothing is more then a 5 min or so walk away but for some that can be a lot. Anyways I hope this review helps great price, great hotel, reviews scared!!!! me but quickly realized for myself that they weren't as true or as big of a deal as made out be.

Riu Merengue: Great place for a vacation

Lovely grounds, nice room, good meals, relaxing place to vacation. Especially enjoyed the beach. Didn't use the entertainment feature, but did do the safari which was educational. Weather was great during our stay.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Very impressed with Riu Bachata

This was a last minute holilday with the girls, and we paid around $1000 expecting mediocre accomodations but it turned out to be one of the nicest places I'd been to. The food was good, beach was beautiful, and hotel rooms clean and large. The atmosphere was fun, friendly yet relaxing at the same time. Will definitely go back.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: lacking

Dreadful beach, arbor where weddings held in poor condition,lamp shades/either missing or filthy, front lobby outdated and unhelpful, some days room not cleaned until 5 or 6 pm. Food just okay. Eaten alive by some sort of mosquito in room.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: GOOD RESORT

The hotel is well run, but the maintenance needs urgent work. There were frequent electricity interruptions, result in the breakdown of the air conditioning units. My first two nights were horrible as there was no a/c, but they eventually fixed it, by the time I was leaving.

ENTERTAINMENT 8/10 BUT NIGHTLY SHOWS WERE TOO RAUNCHY FOR KIDS, SHOULD BE STRICTLY FOR ADULTS. ASK FOR A HIGHER UP ROOM, TOO MUCH NOISE IN HALLWAYS FOR 1ST FLOOR AND HIGHER ROOMS ARE LARGER!! SMALL RESORT, 1 POOL ONLY BUT EASY ACCESS TO ENTIRE RESORT NO NEED FOR WAGONS/CARTS. GOOD FOR ADULTS ON A BUDGET!

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Not what we expected

Food was decent, people were nice, but the resort was pretty run down and they allow locals to fill the vacant rooms on the weekends. The pool was filthy and we found ourselves very annoyed by the locals on the beach and outside the compound. All the Dominicans expect money from you regardless of the service being provided. I would not return to this resort.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Did not meet expectations

Despite being an "older" Principe hotel did not expect this.No proper mattress cover saw dirty/dingy mattress through sheet waited 2hrs 1st night. Drunk,foul mouthed students all over complex.Pool staff unprofessional with comments. At least wheather was nice!!

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great resort

This is a great resort, well worth the money. Food was great, room was great with ocean view, staff is great with the kids, everything was amazing . I would go back there for sure, highly recommended resort

THE HOTEL IS ALRIGHT. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THEIR BUFFET AREA...NOT THE SEATING AREA, BUT THE AREA WHERE THE BUFFET FOOD IS EXPOSED...IT IS WAY TOO SMALL. PEOPLE ARE BUMPING INTO EACH OTHER. REASON WHY WE DID NOT GO BACK.ALSO,I ASKED FOR PRESTIGE CLASS AND GOT NO BENEFIT FROM IT. I WENT BECAUSE THE PRICE WAS GOOD..ONLY BECAUSE OF THE PRICE. IF PRICE WERE HIGHER I WOULD GO ELSEWHERE. SO IF PRICE IS KEPT LOW, I WOULD CONTINUE TO GO.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Casual resort.

We had one week vacation last February 2014. The staffs were friendly and hard worker. We enjoyed the beach with its reef; the waves were spectacular; probably not safe for kids; if you know how to swim it could be fun. The rooms are not extraordinary but it's clean; The patio door needed to be fixed in our room and the room of our friends; For the safe we had to pay extra; The bathroom was okay but sometime no water; The corridors are noisy. absolutely no fault to be found. This is our 4th Bahia stay in 5 years. best value, cleanest, great food and entertainment. Evening cocktails are served in glass not plastic. How wonderful.! We have recommended this chain to everyone.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great holiday at the Barcelo!”

We spent 2 weeks at the Barceló and it was great! The food was very good - lots of different fruits even mangos (my favorite) and the service was excellent - couldn't ask for more - the waiters are very attentive and we enjoyed having a coffee pot left at our table at breakfast. Our room was clean and spacious with a king-size bed which is what we asked for. The a la carte restaurants were very good, especially the Brazilian and the Japanese. The staff at the reservations were not very efficient - answered a ringing telephone every few minutes while the line grew and grew. (whose phoning anyway? - can't reserve a-la carte restaurant by phone) We've been at the Playa Dorada beach before and we love it. Very good snorkeling off the beach and the beach is very long for walking. The time-share venders are not so annoying in front of this hotel - unlike the Blue Bay on the right and the Grand Paradise on the left - they are most annoying there. The entertainment at night was good - we like to dance so there was a band that played early until 9pm ever night - we would have preferred them to play until 10pm and skip the games at 9pm - very boring unless you're part of them and very few people are - I always wonder how many people like those games - the place sure empties when they start. Paradise Playa Dorada: fourth visit

We were at the Grand Paradise three years in a row about ten years ago. Due to my husband's health, we were unable to travel for a few years, and when he was cleared for travel, we wanted someplace familiar, where he would feel comfortable. This time we upgraded to an oceanview which was well worth the extra, although a little noisy on beach party nights. The room was clean and had obviously been updated, although the hotel as a whole is showing its age, through no fault of the people who are co [... read more]nstantly painting, gardening etc. We were forced to take the third floor in order to get two beds, which was a major problem as there are no elevators and he is disabled after suffering a stroke. A big negative for seniors. The safe did not work, which was quickly repaired, nor did the fridge, which was not, but I got used to bringing up ice from the bar when we left the beach, so we made do. In the Caribbean, if you let these things bother you, you can very easily spoil your whole vacation. Hot water was inconsistent throughout the two weeks, sometimes you had to let it run for 15 minutes or more before you got even lukewarm, which seems like a tremendous waste. The food was just as it was ten years ago, lots of choice, with local fish and seafood and other local delicacies offered at special stations throughout the week. Fresh local fruit offered at every meal, which is my weakness. We found no problems with weekend locals, but found consistent good food regardless of the time of the week, and we were there for two weeks. Waiters and other staff, I found, were especially kind in assisting my husband to find his seat and often carrying his plate for him. Never a problem at the bar, the barstaff seemed to be making an effort to keep an eye out for who should be next, and staying fair. Of course, with the bulk of the guests being Canadian, we did not find much rude butting in. The entertainment was considerably different from what we remembered. There appeared to be groups of professional entertainers travelling from hotel to hotel with some first rate shows, but these were few and far between, and often there was no evening entertainment to speak of, a piano player maybe. The hotel based entertainment team did not do many shows, although the ones they did do were well choreographed and very entertaining, despite suffering from shoddy costumes which desperately needed a seamstress to repair unraveling trim and a little budget to replace "holey" pantyhose. These costumes did not do justice to the great skits and choreography, and because the audience is set up on the same level as the performers, they were very noticeable. The animation team planned daily activities which, weather permitting, they followed through with. Especially enjoyed darts, which my husband can play with his unaffected side, lawn bowling and shuffleboard. He was encouraged and really enjoyed these activities. The pool seemed to have more youth-centred activities. There is a room above the pool with a pool table but in poor repair. There is also a plaza not far from the hotel for shopping...unfortunately we found more than half the stores were closed, obviously feeling the effects of the economy. Still the best stretch of beach on Playa Dorada. We do not use the pool, as we do not travel so far to see what is readily available in Canada, but from walking by, it seemed to be kept clean and in good repair. Lounges were generally available both at the pool and at the beach, with the usual problem of people who reserve spots in both places with towels. If anyone, anywhere, finds a solution to this problem, he or she deserves a gold medal. All in all, an enjoyable two weeks (mid janurary 2014) Sincerely, Diane and Roger Davey.

This was our first time at an Adult Only resort. We were a group of 4 aged between 48-55 and we were amongst the youngest people there. We were in the NoliPlus section by the Spa and felt like we were in a retirement home. Seniors go to this resort for months at a time and have "claimed" this area of the resort. You feel like you are intruding there as it is so quiet with no one talking and no music. The only issue we had with our room was it was not ready until very late the day we arrived. If you do decide to go here, bring a printout of the package you paid for as several couples had to fight with the front desk to get the level of room they had purchased. There were numerous issues throughout the week with other guests and the front desk. The resort was overbooked and late guest arriving would be shipped off to other "resorts" which were not in the best conditions. Occupied rooms were given to new arrivals, room keys had to be replaced almost daily, rooms flooded from an overnight rain. It became a daily occurrence to see new arrivals trudge to their rooms with their luggage and turn right around and head back to the front desk once they saw their room! Again, our room issues were minor compared to others. The food was repetitive and if you wanted bacon at breakfast you had to tip for it - never saw that before and we have been to many resorts! Would I go back here ... No. And, I could not recommend it either.
