Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Amazing resort, second time at this particular one
Love this place, huge resort, great beach, awesome pools, love the lazy river, food is good, with lots of variety. Staff is excellent and very friendly. Rooms are beautiful, only problem we found was that the beds always felt damp, room 2935.
They seem to need dehumidifiers.
A/C was fine.
Actually I would like to say a couple of things other than the hotel.
First, WestJet, since they charge for checked luggage, we found that most passengers squeeze all of their belongings into carry-on to a[... read more]void paying $30 per person each way, so it is impossible to put your carryon into your above provided airplane cubbies, we had to have them at our feet and my purse as well, in the already cramped tiny seating area.
Secondly, my husband and I were not aware that we were only allowed 200 cigarettes in each checked luggage, which we had but bought 1 extra Carton duty free on the way to Mexico, since we where going for 10 days. Nobody mentioned that this is not allowed & there where no signs either, nor did they tell us at duty-free. When going through customs in Mexico they ripped all of our check and carry-on luggage apart and ended up charging us on the extra carton a 680% fine which came to 4600.- pesos, divided by 13.333 Can Exchange, which equals roughly
$ 345.- Canadian dollars for a carton we paid $45.-can. native cigs. for. Absolute Bandits !!!!
This just leaves a real bad taste in your mouth when you’re first going on holidays.
Found out a few hours later that the same thing happened to my husband’s cousin and her husband when they went through customs two hours before us.
I wish that this was written out by your company a little bit better maybe, we had no clue, never had this problem in the past.
So then because they held us there for 45 minutes we missed the tour bus the providers helped us out fairly fast though once we got through customs and onto Mexican soil. My last and final complaint would be the drive from the resort back to the airport at the end of the holidays, BEST WAY, operator, and older gent. that picked us up at the resort October 7 around noon for our flight from Cancun to Toronto, I wish I would’ve taken his name or Vin number down. When arriving at the airport in Mexico he unloaded everybody’s luggage nobody tipped him so when it came to my husband and my luggage, the last people to get our things, he unloaded all of our pieces but one of our suitcases and almost held it for ransom hustling us up for a tip.
We gave him a tiny bit of change but this should not happen.
Unbelievable !!! The nerve of him !!!
We are good tippers in general and make sure that our room service girl, bartenders, waiters,.... all of them at the resort get tips from us and if they provide really great service then a little extra.
So most of our issues were not at the resort but everything surrounding the trip.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: First Time All Inclusive Travellers
For a first time resorter, it was a good experience. We travelled with a group of 17, and was a lot of fun.
We stayed in a Jr Suite and was a nice room. Other's had the swim out room and I would recommend going that route for sure.
Tao was delicious, we ate a lot at Yucatan...the buffet was great.
Overall a good experience, the staff was amazing and very accommodating.

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Fun week
This resort has exceeded my expectations. I was pleasantly suprised by the amount of good food I get to eat there. Most of the staffs are very pleasant and courteous. Rooms are clean all the time. Only downside was couple of staff at the lobby have promotions that they need to sell and it was tiring when you have just arrived from long airplane ride. Also the beach wasn't as gorgeous as you would want to be (Can't do anything since it's nature).

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: SIAN Kaan
We just returned from Tulum Mexico were we stayed at the Luxury Bahia Sian Kaan. The resort was beautiful and the rooms are very luxurious the maids were very efficient and fast. The mini bar was refilled daily with beer coke chips and liquor. The resort is nestled in the middle of the jungle and is very peaceful. The staff was very polite and never passed anyone without saying hola to you,There was a large selection at the buffet and several restaurants on the other 3 resorts that were there fo[... read more]r you to use ,The only problem we had was they anted you to sit for 90 mins and listen to the sales pitch about timeshares .They said if we went we would recieve a voucher for a 5day 4 night stay at one of the resorts well of course this never happened.Entertainment was at the Coba and Tulum resorts which was a trolley ride away.I would highly recommend the Sian Kaan for a quite relaxing vacation at a adult only resort.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Good experience
The overall resort area was amazing, with a lot of space, nice pools and beach area. the buffet and specialty restaurants were also good. However, i did feel that customer service could be improved.
For instance the check-in process was horrible by the time we arrived a lot of people were checking in and out, so the hotel staff was overwhelmed and didn’t know how to handle large number of customers. Also, the first room we were assigned the AC, phone and ceiling fan were not working, so it [... read more]took 4 hrs for the hotel staff to assign us a new room.
Also, not having AC or ceiling fan working at the reception area makes it very uncomfortable to wait in a queue. when i asked the reception staff they mention the ceiling fan had been out of service for a few months.
The overall stay was good, but we have received better customer service in other resorts.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: HUGE RESORT
This was a family vacation, very clean and kid friendly resort... 4 Hotels, have to use golf carts to get around, the carts shuttle you around they have designated stops and places that they go, not much wait, they ran very frequently. The fact that we were able to use the facilities at most of the other 3 Hotels was great, ample pool chaise, pool areas and snack bars, loads of restaurants to choose from, our favorite alacarte was at the Gourmet Restaurant, we were there to celebrate a 50th bir[... read more]thday, there was 17 people in our party including 6 children, with the help of Vanessa from public relations we were offered a private room to host our celebration, the staff was exceptional with the service to ensure a memorable experience for us and it was indeed, the Manshua Alacarte was also another of our favourites, Gladys our Maître d was amazing. The buffet always had a variety to choose from. The evening entertainment at the Lobby and at the patio was immensely enjoyed. The only downside, we wish more of the staff was able to communicate better, finding amenities was not easy. Overral it was a great stay.

AWSOME RESORT. A few things. 1. No exhaust fans in the washroom, just a window.
2. No ice machines, you had to ask room service for ice or take ice in a cup from the buffet fountain pop dispenser.
3. Room lights and lamp lights are to dim, .

Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya: Beautiful Beach!
The hotel was beautiful and service impeccable. The beach was the best I have been to in Mexico. The food was not the best I have had but was OK. All in all a great vacation but would love to have had a better experience with the dining. Portofino restaurant was the best option for a la carte.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Worst Resort Ever
We were denied rooms together and our rooms were separated from two different floors. Foggy gray water spilled from our shower and our toilet was clogged for a whole night. We were not assisted even though we called numerous times! Last day we missed our bus because our room phone wasn't working. My husband had to run all the way to the reception centre to even tell the bell boy to get our luggage. We were forced to pay $100US because the bell boy didn't make the effort to stop the bus when we w[... read more]ere right on time! They didn't put our luggage in the bus either. Some of the food was terrible, some restaurants were 5 star while others were 1. Lastly, there were so many mosquitos that it was natural to be bit 5 times a lday. We have traveled over 20 vacations and this was by a lightyear, the worst resort ever. Sincerely, Lisa.

Good food. .no reservations required except at the Japanese. The breakfast and lunch buffet are really good.
Extremely clean resort.
The people selling excursions etc on the beach are very annoying. We were asked every few minutes to buy something...massage, excursion, souvenir etc. The massage people are the worst.
Great entertainment..lots to do all day and evening.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda
A little background first. We are a family of four, with a 5 year old and a 3 year old. We have been to 3 All Inclusives before, two in Riviera Maya & one in Punta Cana.
We stayed at Blue Bay for 7 nights, 8 days.
THE ROOM
We were put in block 6, 4th floor (top floor) Garden View.
On Sunday(arrival day) the shower drain was clogged and the water wouldn't drain so we went up to the lobby to get maintence to fix it. They sent someone to plunge the drain, problem solved.
On Monday, th[... read more]eir was a downpour, which started leaking from the ceiling into our room onto the headboard/pillows/mattress. When we reported it, they informed us we could not stay in the room and would have to be moved. So we were moved down to the second floor. Whole process took about an hour.
On Tuesday, we headed back to our room around 9pm at night with our kids who were tired and hot, only to discover neither of our room keys would open the door. My husband had to go down to the conciege desk to call up to the lobby to report the issue, who sent a bellboy with new keys, but that didn't work so we had to wait for the security guard to show up and let us in. This took about 20 mins. Asked for 30 mins to get our kids ready for bed before they come back to fix the door issue. When all was said and done, the door issue took about 1hr 5mins.
On Wednesday they came to fix our mini fridge as it wasn't cold which we had mentioned on Tuesday night during the whole door issue.
After this their were no issues with our room. I will mention though that both rooms had, were defintely in need of a update.
Housekeeping was great though and I did actually see them moving furniture around to clean behind and under the big items. Knowing the room was at least clean, we were able to handle the dated items.
THE BEACH
No seaweed but you do have to walk through a thick line of broken shells before the soft sand. As well, the shells are there when first entering the water too. Nothing the resort could do about this though, that's just nature. If you bring water shoes, you should be fine. The kids loved looking for different shells :) We met a travel agent while walking on the beach who told us Blue Bay usually has the nicest beach around but there has been alot of erosion lately which shows. We ended up spending most of our time at the main pool.
THE POOL
Being the off season, half of the main pool by the beach was closed for renovations, not a huge deal as their were plenty of chairs around the pool that was open. The part that was open was very nice and had shallow areas for the kids to be able to stand up and splash around.
THE SPA
My husband had a pedicure and I had a chocolate wrap. Unfortunetly, I didn't get too far into the spa to look around as my service was being done in another building. Turns out, it was just a random room in my own building block #6 (closest block to the spa) set up with music & 2 massage beds. My husband & I love doing hydrotherpay circuts & we got an email about 3 weeks before travel saying the Spa was under renovations so we couldn't partake in that particular activity. So not sure if the wrap was done in a regular room because of renovations or if that is the actual regular spot. So that was pretty disappointing. The wrap itself was nice, though not convinced it was worth $90USD. My husband says the pedicure was "good" lol.
THE FOOD
Typical fare at All Inclusives. The dinner buffet is themed differently each night, Italian, Oriental, Mexican etc. Tried 3 a La cartes. The Steakhouse, The French & the Oriental.
The Steakhouse
When we booked this restaurant we were shown on the map where it was, at the restaurant down by the beach. Get down there and nope, "not here, don't know where" was the response we received from one guy, the only unfriendly/unhelpful staff member the whole trip. We eventually managed to find out that it was back up at the top of the resort in the Mexican restaurant. I guess in the off season, they don't utilize all the restaurants, and some will share double duty as a La cartes. As we were already late for our 6pm reservation, we couldn't wait for the little tram to come around to take us back up so we had to walk, in full dinner clothes, heels, and our 3 year old. We were very hot & sweaty by the time we made it to dinner. The saving grace here was the food and the waiter, Alfredo who was amazing!
The French
Definetley recommend dining here if you get the chance, food was great, atmosphere was great and our server Wendy was great! Hands down the best service we got all trip! Wendy deserves a promotion, raise, recognition, something, absolutely the best!
THE STAFF
Amazing! Very friendly, (other than the one guy at the beach Steakhouse.) Everyone was very good with our boys too, high fives, fist bumps, 1 waiter even made our eldest a locust out of palm fronds during lunch one day.
THE ENTERTAINMENT
Shows were good. There was a different show each night of the week. They start at 930pm which is a little late in my opinion. Would be nice if they could move them up to 9pm for the littler kids.
Circus show on Monday night was great but no live animals, more acrobatic performances.
Saw the Peter Pan show on Thursday night, only stayed about 20 mins or so as our 5 year old wasn't feeling well and our 3 year old was scared of the loud noises & flashing lights.
Saw the Grease show on Friday night, only watched about half as my 5 year was bored & wanted to leave but I loved what I did get to see!
THE GROUNDS
Bring mosquito spray!!! Lovely grounds but it is a very long walk to the beach/main pool and this resort is in the middle of mangroves/swamps. Could use more lighting along the paths at night. I'm serious about the mosquito spray, my kids were covered in bites and I was spraying them everynight before we left the room to go to dinner.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
We have yet to return to the same resort twice as we like to discover new things, but if we ever did, we would not do a repeat of Blue Bay & don't feel like we could recommend it to anyone. This was our first trip in 6 years and our kids first trip ever and though they don't know any different (they just loved swimming everyday) we were pretty dissappointed. I had to keep reminding myself, that at least I was on vacation and that was better than being back at home working:)
