The resort was clean and well laid out. One of the best beaches I have ever been! The staff was friendly and helpful. The coffee bar was great! Food was okay, not amazing, but good enough for the week
The grounds are kept meticulously... The renovated rooms are very nice and comfortable.
I would specifically ask for an updated room. The pool is lovely, enough chairs for everyone. Guests are mostly French Canadian. For the price this is a great place for a vacation.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Great Vacation, would return!
The grounds and public areas of the resort are great and very well kept! We were upgraded to a mini suite but disappointed that we couldn't get a renovated room. We had a few spiders daily in our room but not a major issue, we did not complain. Food for Cuba is great! The service is amazing, get churros and drinks brought to you while sitting on the side of the pool. The staff at the meals is also very attentive.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Better than expected.
We had a great time in this hotel. Food was great, staff friendly, weather couldn't have been better. Sunny every day 30+ temperature, beautiful beach, crystal clear water. If there was one thing to complain, it was mosquitoes. Every day between 5 and 9 PM they were everywhere. But they were biting everyone guests and staff equally. They tried their best by spraying every morning and evening.
Not our first trip to Cuba, but first one at this resort and we will definitely be back.

Starfish Cayo Guillermo: ANOTHER GREAT WEEK
Have been to this area a number of times and it seems every time we go they have made changes for the better. The staff here were great and kept the resort looking good, the gardens and the common areas are very well kept to bad some of the guests don't seem to have the decency to pick up after themselves. Memories Caribe Beach Resort: A vacation to remember!
The Buffet was very good - but didn't like the al la carts. Renovated rooms had terrible lighting & no doors on bathrooms. We changed rooms - hotel staff was very accommodating and Sunwing staff very helpful. New rooms were good - lighting, air conditioning, view and bathrooms. Disappointed - no disco or club on the resort. Beautiful Beaches and great pool.

Hotel Mojito: Great Resort.
The resort was showing its age however, the employees were very diligent in making sure the rooms were clean and neat. While I was there, I witnessed some upgrades to a nearby room so they are trying to upgrade the resort. Also while I was there, the power went out for about 1/2 hr at night, island wide, which made things rather dark. The resort has its own generators so there was power in the lobby and some other key areas. The food overall was great. They had a variety of foods to suit al[... read more]most everyone's taste buds. The only complaint I would have is that the El Malecon restaurant in the lagoon area had no screens and was not air conditioned. When we went for dinner there, the mosquitoes were incredibly bad as there was no wind. We found some shelter under the ceiling fans but there were only a few there so there was a lot of competition to sit near them. Screens on the windows would definitely upgrade this restaurant as would more ceiling fans. The piano player was a nice touch and the food there was really good. Visited Freddie in the Cigar Lounge one night. Great place to sit back and unwind. When we were there a local band was playing surprisingly, rock and pop tunes. Good job guys!! Visited the Disco one night to see the show. Some very talented people were performing! The Beach Bar hosted a beach party one night which was awesome! And before we left, the Cuban Thank-you party was great with the bbq'd pork, chicken and fish. Go see the Churro guy - they are awesome! Overall, this resort is not a 5* but definitely a 4* and one we thoroughly enjoyed.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Charming Resort with a beautiful beach
I recently spent a week at this charming resort in Cayo Coco. The resort is small with a beautiful salt water pool, well manicured grounds, friendly staff and outstanding entertainment, but it was the sparkling blue waters and white powder sand beach that took my breath away. If you like to snorkel, I would recommend spending the 20 pesos to have a guide take you to the reef on one of the hobby cats. There are tons of fish and brilliant corals and the 45 minute trip out to the reef gives you [... read more]a great view of Cayo Coco from the sea. I loved the fact that this was an adults only resort and that singles could stay without a huge single supplement fee. I stayed in one of the el fresco suites with an outdoor shower. The suite was spacious and clean, but the amenities and decor were a little bit tired. This was not a big issue for me as I do not spend a lot of time in my room, and the hotel itself seems to be going through a process of updating all of the suites. The food in the buffet was well presented and the staff always accommodating. There was nothing too out of the ordinary, the fresh fish, grill and pasta stations were very popular and my preference and the roasted meats were always succulent. The buffet and salad bar always had something appealing, at least for me and I was more impressed with the main dining buffet than I was with the A la carte choices. The lobby bar features a grand piano centre stage and was a great place to enjoy a special coffee, quiet conversation and beautiful music after dinner. There was a wine store on site that featured a good selection of international wines to enjoy either with your meals or in your room for a mere 10 pesos per bottle. I booked the diamond club package and I'm not sure it afforded any real benefits, other than a designated spot on the beach. The resort could do with some no smoking areas for those of us who don't enjoy breathing second hand smoke and I would recommend that they stop the practice of allowing smokers to bring their ash trays into the patio section of the dining area and smoking during meals. This was the first resort I have ever stayed at where vacationers smoked in the pool and at the swim up bar and I found that a rather unpleasant experience as well. The tennis courts and spa were off in their own quiet corner and very nicely maintained and appointed. All an all a very nice Cuban resort with a stunning beach and very kind staff.

Hotel Mojito: you get what you pay for
This is definitely not the best resort on Cayo Coco, but it is also one of the cheapest. You get what you pay for. The facilities are nice but dates and in need of refreshment. The rooms are spacious and everything works but again, the need for renovation shows in the warn off desk, curtains, walls, etc. The maids do a good job keeping everything clean. The staff: well...a mixed bag. Some very attentive, especially in the buffet and others that would benefit from some training (or motivation...)[... read more]. The food was acceptable, nothing special, but quite OK for the money. The guys running the water sports (catamaran, kayaks, etc) are very nice and helpful.
I stayed in this resort because as I went to Cayo Coco to go fishing and was away during the days: simply needed a decent play to sleep and eat. As such it met my needs and the price was right. Would I stay there if I were on typical holidays, staying at the resort and using the facilities, etc: maybe no. Or not until they do some work on fixing the place up a bit. The potential is there, someone needs to make the effort...

Melia Costa Rey: Wonderful resort!
The rooms at this resort were wonderful. So modern and clean. Staff were very friendly. Infinity pool was our favorite spot with a great swim up bar. Snack bar served wonderful meals and all 3 a la crate restaurants were great.
Lobby bar was fantastic. Great coffee there every morning.
Beach was long, but seaweed free area was not very wide when we were there. We didn't mind though. We spent most of the time at the pool.

Hotel Mojito: Average with potential resort!
The hotel was in some disrepair. Areas of the resort were not available the week we stayed and therefore not maintained. This included some of the grounds and half of the main pool. In addition, only one of the four air conditioners in the gym was working which made a workout almost impossible because of the stifling heat. The room was clean and the air conditioning was excellent although we did hear from other guests that this was a problem in some rooms. Also surprisingly, there was no balco[... read more]ny on any of the rooms to hang wet clothing nor did they provide a line across the tub for this purpose. Inside our room, the toilet flushed sporadically and the bathroom did include a nice deep tub which was a nice surprise. The buffet food choices were limited to very few dishes and were the same each night however, the a la carte restaurants served amazing food and the staff were super friendly. Overall, the staff were very friendly. The beach was spectacular and we really enjoyed our time at the beach.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Beautiful beach
Beautiful hotel and beach. Food okay. Poor lighting throughout the resort making it unsafe to walk at night. Mosquitos a real problem. Communication lacking among most of the staff making it difficult to ask for directions, drinks etc. The biggest thing was the constant spraying for mosquitos starting at 6 a.m. and continued throughout the resort during the day. Starfish Cayo Guillermo: Excellent Potential but Greatly Disappointed
The Hotel itself is nice. It's has a beautiful beach and close access to the inland waterways (channels, mangroves, fishing, snorkelling and Kayaking opportunities).
Our disappointments were brought on by the following:
1) Upon arrival we learned that 3/4 of the hotel had been closed. The open section was a 5-10 min walk from the main lobby in what would, under normal circumstances, be the Adults only section. We were given a couple of reasons for the main section being closed...slow seaso[... read more]n...renovations. Because of this closure, many of the activities that we specifically chose this hotel for, were unavailable. No Kayaks, pedal boats, sail boats, scooters or car rentals. Additionally, many of the shops, bars and restaurants were closed. This type of situation should be communicated prior to arrival giving guests the opportunity to opt out.
2) On the morning of our 2nd day, the water supply to the entire resort shutoff. We were told it would be back up and running in an hour. This did not happen. The water was off for 4 days coming on sporadically for maybe an hour on three of the days and on the 4th day it came back on fully but only at a trickle and without enough pressure to make it to the shower head..Every time the water would come on, some other issue with the supply system would break down. Each day we enquired and each day we were told the same thing...back on in 30 mins or 1.5 hours etc etc...Again, communication is the key here. We felt like we were just being given lip service to get us to go away. Management of this resort needs to be forthcoming with their clientele. It was obvious that they knew this was a major issue...we should have been moved to another resort shortly after this issue began. There was no assistance by management for guests. At a minimum, provide buckets of water to each room to flush toilets instead of leaving us to our own devices. We had to carry the garbage can from our room to the pool and back to flush the toilet. Days without shaving or showering the ever accumulating bug spray, sweat and sunscreen, not to mention the deterioration of sanitary conditions at the resort...no fresh towels, no means to do laundry or wash dishes, common area toilets not being flushed and piling up. Atrocious odours prevailing.
3) Food - We found the food to be quite good. The issue was that without water, how were things being cleaned. The bar had a bucket of water in the sink. Glasses were being used, rinsed in the buck then but back on the shelf for re-use. Witnessed a plate being dried with a dish cloth, worker using the same cloth to wipe their forehead, then continuing to dry. As a result of the aforementioned dwindling sanitary conditions, we did not eat well after the first two days limiting to things that we deemed safe such as packaged food and or bananas and the like.
4) Atmosphere...This again is as a result of the above conditions. What would normally be friendly discussions in the common areas turned in to none stop complaining. Most of the guest were booked through Sunwing and were moved to another resort. We were not moved and are in the process of seeking compensation.
5) Bug bites during sleep. A common problem among the guests. Again a source of many complaints around the common areas. Through research, the bites appear to be from sand fleas. May be a result of poor cleaning of rooms? Had to wear bug spray to bed. Many repeat guests to Cuba, some that had been there over 40 times, said they have never experienced this condition. Several sought medical aid due to adverse reactions.
6) Other items that were a nuisance but not the contributing factors to our miss-content. Refrigerator didn't work in room. Reported but nothing done. Shower head bracket support broke and curtain rod came down. Reported and it was repaired. A lot of garbage visible in areas surrounding the resort.
In conclusion, management communication and professionalism is lacking at this resort. Staff in general were very friendly and inviting. This place has the potential to be very nice. The word on the street is that ownership of this resort has changed hands several times in recent history. Customer service does not appear to be a high priority. A lot of beer being funnelled into the kitchen and off to staff in empty 1.5 L pop bottles and other large open containers. I would not return here without significant proof of improvements.

Hotel Vigia: A few simple things can make this a 5 star
This resort is 21 years old and loved by its staff, it may lack a few things, for example, an extra a la carte restaurant, a bigger or an outdoor exercise area and scooter rentals, to be truthful there are plenty of services available to help keep you busy at a decent cost, horse back riding, bus services to other resorts, jeep excursions etc

Melia Costa Rey: Beautiful Modern and Clean
We loved that this newer family hotel is not too spread out, has a long natural beach and several pools for kids, sports or adults. Our room was fresh smelling, bright and stylish with excellent air conditioning, large bathroom and a patio with an ocean view and steps to the beach- and it was not classified as an upgraded room. Main buffet restaurant offered tons of choices and 3 grilling/ frying stations for custom orders with eggs in the morning and fresh fish and stir fry at lunch and dinner. [... read more]Always piles of fresh baked breads, pastries and cakes succulent fruits and different salads although don't expect a lot of fresh vegetables other than cabbage, tomatoes and broccoli. Pasta was good. Meats were varied and plentiful but many items were a bit odd. An open air buffet offered lunch BBQ daily and open air seating overlooking the ocean. The lobby is really a lounge area cooled by sea breezes and also looks out to the ocean where we always found seating and bar service. Never felt crowded or had to wait long for food or drinks and staff was very attentive and warm. Also a plus, it is 20 mins from the airport but we never heard or saw a plane.
