We stayed at Melia Las Dunas from April 5th to April 12th.We had a small issue when we first arrived as they did not give us the rooms we requested on the adult side. We ended up on the family side. We ended up just walking over to the adult side for the pool. Grounds were very well maintained and the staff was very pleasant. We had an issue 2 days with room cleaning. They took the towels from the day before and just hung them on the balcony instead of leaving fresh ones, plus they did leave any[... read more] toilet paper. We called and it was taken care of fairly quickly. We were pleasantly surprised by the food, there was something for everyone. Al la carte restaurants were also very good. Entertainment was ok, I think they need the animation team to interact more with the tourists throughout the day and evening. I am use to seeing other places, which always have at least 4 or 5 of the team, interacting with the visitors and involving them as much as possible. For my first time in Cuba it was enjoyable and the weather was fantastic the week we were there.

Memories Paraiso: never going back!
Resort Grounds: Beautiful
Rooms: Stayed in bungalow 41, Oceanview room 4184. The best part of the whole trip. Amazing view of the beach. Quiet! 2 minute walk to the little shopping centre.
Beach: Beautiful. Water amazing! We were there during a very windy week so we got a lot of strong waves. But our kids loved it anyways.
Bars: The little beach grill, DO NOT EAT the burgers.. RAW meat!
Drinks were average. My son was super excited about the pina coladas and they were the worst ones I ever ha[... read more]d, but their mojitos were awesome.
Food: THE WORST IN CUBA! Have been to the other resorts in cuba and never had an experience like this. It was not a matter of blend food (lack of seasoning) there was just a LACK OF FOOD, PERIOD! There was simply nothing to put the seasoning on. We have never been so hungry on an all inclusive vacation. The resort is huge and they have several places other than the buffet that have food but for whatever reason they were all closed down. So we were basically left with the buffet. There were 3 restaurant opened but you were limited to only 2 reservations per stay. The restaurants were worthless because they served the same darn thing that they had at the buffet. The buffet was awful, no variety at all. On top of it whatever was left over from breakfast was put out again for lunch and dinner. All breads and buns were at least a week old. The sausages and the meats were reheated and refried several times, seafood was amazingly prepared in a way that it didn't even taste like seafood. Yogurt we only got 2 out of 7 days. I could go on for the next hour about the lack of food. Also, the first resort I have EVER been to where you had to wait in line in order to get into a buffet. Twice we saw a huge line going from the buffet towards the main lobby. People waiting to be let in. When 3 people left the buffet, they would let in 3 people and so on. I still can't believe they did that. Oh, and if you are not planing to be in the buffet at the opening times (breakfast 7:30am, Lunch 1:00pm Dinner 6:30) do not even bother going, there is not going to be any food left for you you to eat!

Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Great vacation awesome resort
We travelled Mar 26-Apr 2, 2016, 2 adults and 2 children. This was our 3rd trip to Cuba, first time to Cayo Santa Maria. In the past we stayed at both a 4 and a 5 star resort in Varadero. Hotel Cayo Santa Maria was the best we have experienced in Cuba we would actually give 4 1/2
The suite (1250) was amazing, clean, modern and spacious. It is located close to the beach the main lobby and the quiet pool. With an amazing view of the beach from the double balcony. We requested a cot and it was set u[... read more]p in the living area when we arrived, the maid met us coming out and offered a 2nd cot so both kids could have their own. This was very appreciated as we didn't have to share the king bed with any kids! The only complaint would be that the cots are very hard, though this didn't prevent the kids from sleeping. There were 2 tvs with lots of English channels which was nice early in the morning, the kids pulled the sliding door between their room and ours so they could watch tv while we got to sleep a bit longer! The rooms were always clean, towels were always fresh, never sand in the beds and they provided lots of extras in the bathroom (toothbrushes, slippers, bath salts, shaving kit, cream and shampoo).
The fridge was stocked every night around 5:30 with lots of water beer and pop.
The resort itself was clean and modern, there were lots of loungers at the pools and the beach, we never had a problem finding shade at the pools. The quieter pool was almost empty until about 3 in the afternoon so it was like our own private pool. The beach had lots of shade but people like to save their chairs so if you weren't there by 930 it was hard to find shade-still lots of chairs though. The beach is the most beautiful we have ever seen and the water was perfect. We tried the catamaran that the hotel offers for free and was a lot of fun.
The food was the best we have had in Cuba. The pizzas from the beach were very tasty and great for a light lunch or afternoon snack. The pig roast and chicken roast were the best meals of the whole week I would highly recommend waiting in the lineup to get this. The main buffet was where we had most of our meals and we always found lots to eat and really enjoyed just about everything. The fresh donuts in the morning are the best but they go quick. We found the filled the empty spaces quickly and only had a problem getting a plate one night. The choices did become repetitive towards the end of the week but we didn't have a problem with that. Small spoons are with the servers and they will bring them to you when they see you getting dessert. The ice cream was very tasty also. The grilled meats and fish at lunch and supper were very good always a line up but never more than a 10 min wait.
The evening entertainment was ok, we were often to tired to stay for much of the show but the dance night and the magic show were great. The lady at the kids club who organized a kids show was lovely and my kids had fun being a performer on stage. The clown was also awesome, face painting and entertaining all day.
The 2hour drive from the airport wasn't horrible it was nice to see the scenery and relax in the air conditioning, a bathroom on board would make it more pleasant, and our super early morning departure meant we slept on the drive back.
The drawbacks to this resort for us was some of the servers in the restaurants, some spent a lot of time talking to each other and seemed uninterested in helping, for example not offering more coffee at breakfast or not refilling water. But we finally found a section with friendly and helpful staff and we sat there with no problems. Also there was only one day we were able to exchange for a fresh beach towel, would have been nice to get a fresh one more often.
Off resort the market we went to was small and didnt offer a lot of different things compared to Varadero and Havana markets so we were disappointed with that. We did not do any tours or go to the town with the pirate ship so I can't comment on those.

Resonance Blu Santa Maria: Good impression.
The impression was very good, there were no negatives. We only had to change the room, because the original room was not what we wanted. But no problem with change. Food was ok. The resort was too big and crowded for me. The entertainment was incredible.

Memories Paraiso: Over all a very clean and beautiful resort
This resort is very clean and the gardens and flowers are beautiful. The pool was clean and there was always a place for everyone. This beach was out of this world with warm water lots of beach area and plenty of seating. I have been to many resorts and I would rate this beach the best. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The only downside is that tea or coffee are not available with your meal. After eating we had to walk to the main lobby to get our tea or coffee.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Amazing with incredable long stretch of beach
traveled from April 2 to the 9th. Loved the resort. The ground are impeccable. The bars or restaurants and snacks are all situated in the perfect locations for socializing or quite times. Service was wonderful, sometimes a little slow at the snack bar...but what's the hurry! sit back and relax, you are on vacation. We had so much fun on the beach and in the pools we never bothered to book the a la carte's. But lunch or breakfast is served in the restaurant's from menu so the buffet at night was [... read more]just fine.
Our room was in block 20...a perfect location for us. Close enough to everything. The nightly entertainment was always good. Walks on the beach at night were great. Do not have anything negative to say we really enjoyed our stay. Love Cuba!
Best memory! My friend catching a 16lb barracuda from the rocks, so for all you fisherman, try to beat that on your stay!

Valentin Perla Blanca: Valentin Perla Blanca so Beautiful
This resort being fairly new was beautiful , grounds well maintained and always friendly staff around to welcome you .I would suggest that you do bring a beach towels, condiments ( ie ketchup, hot sauce , clamato for Caesars ) , your own shampoo. As it being Cuba you are smart to get up early to attend buffet breakfast and book your a la Carter dinners . The a la carts were quite good but keep in mind this is quite a big resort and at full capacity it can house close to 2500 guests so again get [... read more]up early to book . If you are a non smoker you may not enjoy the lobby bars as a lot of guests smoke wherever they want even though it is clearly marked non smoking some guests can be inconsiderate and pretend that those rules don't apply to them . Do tip and bring small toiletry items that the Cuban people would not be able to aquire for themselves. Overall go for a walk on the beach as Cayo santa maria has the most amazing sand, surf and views .

Melia Las Dunas: Unacceptable
The food was terrible, the grounds were not maintained, there was no sign of a vegetable or decent piece of fruit, the "fruity tropical drinks" were made with powder and most of the staff treated you like you were an imposition.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Best Girls Trip!!!
We had 5 ladies (40-60) in age, celebrating mother in laws birthday. This resort was well kept, had great food; the playa on the ocean had lobster, steak and the Asian was excellent. We had the best customer service lady Yielte who took care of ALL our reservations and went over and above her duties to make sure we were taken care of; including champagne and a cake at the Italian restaurant our first night, I can not say enough how amazing she was!! We met new people there and felt like family. [... read more]Chinto and Freddy from the entertainment crew made our "Cuban cigar lounge" a time we will NEVER forget!! Lenier at the front lobby made sure our drinks were never empty. We did the catamaran, fantastic!! This place is amazing and DO NOT HESITATE to go here. It is not a party place, but you can have a great time at night if you choose. Pools are beautiful too. We were in building 4. April from Trip central rocked.

Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Nice Resort, Nice Rooms
I was impressed with the room, the grounds were nice and the beach was beautiful. Stayed in Block 11 which was super convenient and my room was a partial ocean view although technically a garden view. The show at night ends around 10:30-10-45pm and is very audible from Block 11 until then.
Food was alright, was expecting a little better, since I've been to lesser star resorts with what I considered better tasting food.
