Club Kawama: Another wonderful vacation!!!

This was around 15 times to Kawama and we have no plans to change Resorts. Kawama is an old Resort, one of the oldest and while it is showing its age in some areas you really can not beat the staff and the ambiance of this old beauty. The rooms are slowly getting renovated, the pool is beautiful again and the food gets better every time we go. There is and always will be a large group of Repeaters , we all return because we love it here. Instead of complaining when you see something that needs [... read more] to be improved, kindly bring it to the Hotel's attention so that it can be addressed instead of giving bad reviews on Trip Advisor or Sunwing. Yes there are issues, shortage of toilet paper in bathrooms.....there are hundreds using the facilities every day so yes it runs out. Buffet food, yes sometimes it is not warm enough or they run out....again many people are eating there so naturally it will be hard to keep trays filled and hot. It would also be so nice if people would pick up after themselves instead of leaving garbage laying around the pool or beach area, you would not litter your own property l hope. Also, when you are sitting having drinks or coffee in the bars, would it be too much to bring your glasses and drinks back to the bar so that the already overworked staff does not have to do. So many people make a mess and just walk away and leave it......come on people, show some respect. We are seeing so many of Kawama staff that are just exhausted from working so hard to make their guests happy, lets all try to be more compassionate to their feelings...... We can not wait to return to our beloved Kawama again and again......love our Cuban family and our home away from home.......

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Pleasent stay

Just returned from my 7day stay at melia peninsula . Very enjoyable vacation. Beach absolutely stunning .never a problem to find bed or shade . Dont have to get up 6 or 7 to reserve. Grounds are in great shape. Lots of greenery well kept by gardeners Food quite tasty. Knowing that Cuba is not the best when it comes to the cuisine. Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Stunning Beach & Amazing Entertainment with a Priviso

Stunningly beautiful & clean beach. Buffet and a la cart restaurants were good - fresh fruit was great. Suggest that people order fish/pork/chicken, not beef. Appreciated the mimosas and free Cava at the lobby bar. 1st floor rooms smelled musty/felt damp/ but hardworking staff kept rooms very clean. No functioning safe deposit box in our room.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Nice resort

Myself and 3 other girl friends arrived at this hotel at the early hour of 1am March 9th. The bell boy brought us to our building which was building 29. He took our luggage right up to our rooms which were on the 3rd floor, and we tipped him and he was on his way. The rooms were ok, but needed to be updated. Bathroom was good. Huge shower, working toilet and a make up mirror. Bar fridge was filled up every second day. (1 bottle of water every day) 2 beer, 2 pop. The maid was awesome! Very sweet [... read more] girl. We left two paso's for her every day. The first day we left the room and forgot to close the safe, nothing was missing. Do not leave any opened food or anything sugary left unattended, lots of little red ants! We brought a can of raid which came in handy.. The grounds are very clean and well attended to. Beautiful flower bushes and different plants, lots of palm trees.... Food... Not a whole lot of choice in the buffet. Hardly any fruit all week, I love bananas and I didn't see one all week... french fries only one day.. If your a fussy eater I suggest you book at another resort. We did 3 a la cart restaurants. Japanese was awesome, really enjoyed the Mexican and we also ate at the Italian which was just ok... Pool with swim up bar was great. They had daily activities which we didn't partake in... There is also a children's pool that has a day care, water slide. lots of chairs and palapas... Beach was awesome! Loved the ocean! The man working the beach was always ready to help you find a spot. We tipped him a paso every day and gave him treats. There is a huge lobby at this resort where there are many people who go there to get wifi on their phones. You buy a phone card for one paso and its good for one hour. Don't forget to turn off your wifi when your finished using your phone to save the wifi that you haven't used. We also did face time on Facebook Messenger using wifi... We didn't see all the night time shows but they had a few really good bands come to the resort that we really enjoyed... We really enjoyed this resort but the food quality and choices really were bad...

Palma Real: Very very poor

Dear Vicky it was the worst resurt that I have ever seen. Once we arrived no attention lobby in a very poor shape. No indication that we asked to go in our room. Once we did find it it was a dump dirty baseboard eating by bugs the safe didn’t work the door in bathroom would not close and no light in bathroom. Got bug bight. Visited 2 other rooms after the same disaster not one secure safe to put our passport and money. My hubby very hangry and also myself so disappointed. I was crying just wanted to come home but she did find us a better resort that cost us 20 pesos for the taxi and more then400.00 for a nice resort. I do not mind paying but Vicky told us it was nice. Lots of bed bugs. For the snack they opened at 10pm hot dog and hamburger we were hungry I took a hamburger and the meat was not cooked. The worst experience of our 7 trips to Cuba. The next day taxi and Memories here we come ouf. We did manage to relaxe

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Great week!

Overall great vacation. Pool, beach and grounds were lovely. Could always find something to eat. Breakfast and lunch pretty good. Suppers not the best but some not too bad. Biggest complaint was wine watered down and washroom by pool always smelled like sewer.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: What a wonderful week we had!

This resort was great! We stayed in building 35 which was closest to the beach. A very short walk from the beach, the beach bar, the Sanctuary restaurant and the pool. The resort is quiet and very peaceful. We went over to the Grand Memories a few times but we spent most of our time at the Sanctuary. We would return!!!!

Loved it at the Sanctuary, excellent staff and service! We would return in a heartbeat. Staff very friendly and accommodating, resort shows some wear but rooms and resort are pretty clean, beach is the best part fir us 😊

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Beyond amazing resort and staff

We have been guests at Princess Del Mar on 5 occasions (three times at the main resort and twice at the Royal Service) and have found the resort to be a fantastic, beautiful and a well maintained place to vacation. The food is above par for Cuba and even a few other country's we've been to, as there is an abundance of selection with many options to have the food cooked to your preference. The beach area is large with lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas. We have found the staff to be professio [... read more]nal and helpful (especially on the Royal Service portion of the resort). Clean up from the recent storm was amazing and they seem to be always continuing to improve various aspects of the resort. Nightly entertainment is always fun, varied and well planned. Overall we would definitely give this resort a five star rating. The only suggestions we would have are that they would add a few more umbrellas for the pool area and that they designate a smoking area which is away from the common areas such as the bar, food, beach and pool. That way non smokers and people with breathing issues could enjoy these areas without having to move. We don't wish to impede on their rights, but I believe we also have some too.

Hotel Tuxpan: Amazing resort

I dont know where to start, the staff, the pools, the service, the rooms, the beach, the food, everything was amazing! But the staff made our trip 10x better. Their positivity made our days. Our maid Laritza always made a figure with the towels whenever she cleaned out room, and it was beautiful.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Awesome place to stay

Our rooms were excellent, the service went above and beyond. Our butler Malitza was super, could not have asked for better service. I liked that everything was close, the restuarant, the bar, the beach, all were within 2 minutes of each other. I will never stay anywhere else but the Sanctuary

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Amazing resort!!!!

Our first time at this resort will definitely not be our last! The junior suites we stayed in were very spacious and clean. The pool view rooms we had had awesome views. The pool area has WiFi so we could access WiFi from the comfort of our balconies(as opposed to a crowded lobby elsewhere). The staff was very friendly, our butler Militza was amazing-answered any questions we had and was quick to resolve any issues we had. The restaurant staff greeted us every morning/evening like family. The fo [... read more]od was some of the best I’ve had in Cuba! The pool/pool area was always clean, and the entertainment staff did a super job everyday-my family really enjoyed the water aerobics! I can’t wait to go back to this resort.

Brisas Del Caribe: Nice vacation

We spend very nice week at Brisas del caribe Varadero Cuba. Service was good and the resort well maintain for Cuban standard. Staff was friendly and helpful. We are four years in the round in Cuba an we love the country.

Barcelo Solymar: Good resort

This was a quiet resort with good but older rooms. Day one we had to change room because of construction all night long with a new resort being built directly out our balconies the charged cost us 260 CAD. Upgraded rooms were nicer and within sight of pool. Beach was clean an spacious. Entertainment at resort was small and little of it. Good food. Good staff. Clean resort.

Club Tropical: Great Location ...not so great accommodation.

Public areas were well maintained but the accommodation had seen much better days and definately did not live up to expectations. The location was great. Right in town with restaurants, bars and markets Within walking distance. Beach fabulous. VIP check in for return flight was definately a waste of money.

Paradisus Varadero: Great vacations

The hotel was nicely laid out. Grounds were well kept. Impossible to book a la cartes. We only got one. Staff friendly. Food at buffet was very good. Beach area was amazing. Spa was very overpriced for what you received. I usually love a couple spa days on vacation however it was not worth the money.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Fair Resort - starting to show its age.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Good value all considered and the flight to and from Hamilton was a bonus. Food is better than what most people are saying. Lots of familiar food and if you want to eat more of the Cuban food you can do so. Beaches are spectacular but pool and the resort itself is a little dated. Nightly musical entertainment at the lobby was stellar. The ala carte restaurants on site were so-so. Club Kawama: Week at Kawama!

Cleanliness: This was one of the cleanest resorts I have stayed at. The furniture, appliances, and other items may have been old (as are most things in Cuba), but everything was clean. I have never seen a cleaner pool (I have stayed at 5 Star resorts where their pools were not always as clean and had garbage floating around them). Staff: most of the staff were very helpful and kind. when they saw you they always smiled and greeted you. They did their best to accommodate our needs. Food: my [... read more] mom really liked the food. There was a lot of fish, lobster, shrimp, etc. I on the other hand was not a super big fan. Some of the spices/seasonings they put on their meat did not agree with me. That being said, their rice, beans, bread, pizza, fruit, and desserts (especially the rice pudding!) were all great. This resort has one buffet, two restaurants, three bars, and a snack bar. As well, down the road there was a great pizza place. Amenities: our room had a blow dryer that did not really work too well, a mini fridge that worked but then sometimes stopped working, a television with minimal channels, and a safe which cost 30 CUC to use (they set up your card for your room to unlock the safe). All of these issues we were pre-warned about in the reviews, so we were not the least bit upset. There was towels (I recommend bringing your own pool/beach towels and wash cloths), toilet paper was provided, but it is still recommended to bring your own because lots of the restrooms do not have any. The hotel itself did have a gym, pools, restaurants and a buffet, a coffee shop, bars, Wi-Fi for a fee and it only worked by the pool, there was a kid’s place. One thing I wish the hotel did have was a snack bar with more options (there was a snack bar but it had a limited menu and it took a while to get your food). Location: the location of Kawama is great. The beach was a 30 second walk from our room. There was a place right down the road to exchange your money. After a 5 minute walk you can get to where the hop-on hop-off bus starts and further down is the town with markets and restaurants. When we rode the bus we found the ‘fancier’ hotels further down were quite far from the town itself. Overall: I would for sure return to Club Kawama! It was not a five star resort, but the location was great, the staff were overall friendly, the price was fair, and it was clean as well as comfortable. I definitely would say this ‘3-star’ resort lived up to its ‘3-star’ status. The only way it could possibly get higher, at least from me, would be if they increased their snack bar options and upgraded their appliances in the rooms as well as got new beds (note: bring your own pillow, I am sure glad we did because their pillows were not great). As well, I wish the pool was open later (it closed at 6pm!).

Brisas Del Caribe: Great Beach

We stayed at this resort for one week. We found the grounds nicely laid out spacious. The gardeners were always busy looking after them. Even though we didn't use the pools they were very clean and well taken care of. Plenty of lounge chairs. We like to spend time on the beach & water rather than the pool. The beach is beautiful. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Even though we had room issues resulting from lack of maintenance, it was a nice place. These issues were dealt with by the Guest R [... read more]elations manager and we came to an acceptable agreement between us.The dining room definitely needs to be enlarged for weekend crowds. Omelettes seem to be a favourite for all and so need to have more than one grill to do these. That way you wouldn't have to stand in line up for 15 minutes. The same goes for lunch and dinner grills. There are no reefs close to the beach on all of Varadero. But you can hire a hobie cat to go to the reefs @ $20 CUC/$28 Cad. per person for 45 minutes of snorkelling. We will more than likely take our family here in July.

Muthu Playa Varadero: No frills resort

Muthu Playa, a small resort consisting of two old east/west buildings for guests, minimally decorated rooms. The bar fridge is not filled with anything and you need to ask for subsequent bottles of water. You also need to ask for more towels as they only give you 2 even if you're a family of 4. Our room had no bath tub. You worked the A/C by flipping a breaker switch. The buffet and outdoor grill do not vary much from day to day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We love Cuban food so did not have [... read more] a problem with it, fresh papaya, guava, roast pork, fish etc every day. The Italian and International dinners by reservation are in the same restaurant near the buffet, the Cuban dinner is held at the outdoor grill; nothing special to write about. Only the bar by the buffet has a working slushy maker for the kids. They have a nice coffee bar near the lobby, and the main building overall has a basic no frills decor. Because the resort does not house many guests, there are lots of huts at the beach and spots by the pool. You become intimate with staff and they are all very nice. The entertainment at night is outside, not sure what they do when it rains. And across from the resort is a small night club. I would rate this resort 3.5* having stayed at other resorts in Varadero which we would rate 4 to 4.5*. It was a last minute booking and we had a great time nonetheless.
