Club Tropical: Great location but a very basic hotel

The Club Tropical is situated in a fantastic location, on a beautiful beach yet intown, close to bars, restaurants, shopping. It has so much potential, yet it falls short in almost every area, it is rundown, no elevator, very poor food selection. That said it is inexpensive & I would stay here again as for me the positives it offers outweigh its many deficiencies.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Perfect Paradise!

This resort is simply amazing! Beautiful buildings that makes you feel in a palace. Large inside/outside Lobby area. Impressed with english speaking staff at the reception and bars. Very friendly staff. Our maid was the best with funny swans designs in out rooms each day. Family ocean-view room well worth it. Spacious and very convenient. Lots of different food options at the buffet and beach snack bar is hidden but very good. A la carte restaurants were easy to book and we enjoyed tasting new t [... read more]hings. There are 3 pools, main pool has entertainment and quiet pools are great as well in order to get away from too much people or music. Beach is awesome! just enough entertainement and music the rest of the day, free paddle-boats which we enjoyed a few times! Night shows and discotheque, spa on the resort as well. Very impressed and would definately go back.

Melia Las Antillas: Disappointed, first time writing a poor review.

The grounds are very nice and of course the beach is spectacular as are most beaches in Cuba. We have been to Cuba 13 times and this time we were disappointed. To be more specific, the bathrooms were very neglected. The cleaning staff never properly cleaned the bathtubs and they were very bad. It was not just one room, we were a party of 8 and all 4 bathtubs were nasty. In addition, the service at the main bar was laughable, don't even know where to begin but in a 8 day stay I can honestly  [... read more]say that our order was taken and forgotten over 20 times. The service at the pool and beach bar were excellent. We booked an a la carte and asked if there were vegetarian choices as several of our group are vegetarians. When we got there the only item was a soup, the other item marked as vegetarian had fish in it. We had to leave and go to the buffet. We also had a pair of pyjamas and a camera go missing and unfortunately never noticed until we were home. This resort is on par with a 3 star in Cuba and like I say, we have stayed at many places in Cuba but never again at this one.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: A pleasant place

The resort is all-inclusive, and is a good option for those wanting a worry-free vacation. You can choose to lay by the pool or on the beach. At the beach, you can enjoy some pleasurable free water sports. The food is mediocre; however, the specialty restaurants are really very good. You can take the local double-deck bus into the small town of Varadero, and enjoy the limited shopping and quaint cafes. For a truly Cuban experience though you should plan on spending an extra week in Havana.

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Definitely not a four or four/half star resort.

Rooms were very clean and cleaning staff were very good.Ceramic tile floors in the halls had many broken ones and were patched with cement.Every second light in hallways were not working and the end of the hallways were dark.Very spooky.Some stairwells had no handrails so you had to hang on to the wall.I have a slight mobility issue which made this dangerous.There were Two elevators at the far end of each hall. Of course where I was there was a broken one. The second elevator worked sometime but [... read more] not always forcing you to walk to the other end of hall and wait.Remember there are approximately 940 rooms. Adult floors are on the top floors.I had a room upgrade and as such, was allowed to eat at the eleventh floor dinning room.The young women at the grill was quite pleasant,always smiling and spoke extremely good English which made us feel at ease. I wish I could remember her name.Management should offer staff some English classes to get by. We are your customers.Food at buffets we’re sub-par.and again many many people squeezing in the same buffet.They offered for example spaghetti where the chef would let you choose the sauce and what you wanted in it.Most times a line up of ten to fifteen people would wait a while to be served as he was the only one doing this.They say towels left unattended on lounge chairs could be confiscated and you could be responsible for a replacement($15.) but I didn’t see anyone removing theses.A large hotel with nine hundred rooms should have more than three hundred lounge chairs.so by all means, get up early and put your towel on a lounge chair and claim your space.The upgrade allowed for swimming in the adult pool but people would go in there anyway.No security seen anywhere made me feel unsafe. As I had stayed at four different iberostar resorts, this one was scrapping at the bottom and I will attempt a stay at another resort.Thank you Bella Vista for opening my eyes.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Absolutely loved this resort!

Beautiful grounds and an even more beautiful beach. Food was good, staff were wonderful. The Japanese a-la-carte restaurant was entertainment in itself. Rooms were spacious and clean. Would definitely return!

Hotel Tuxpan: Great resort

This was our 7th time to Cuba but our first time at this resort and we were there 10 days. Our first impression, the resort looked great. When we got our rooms we were on the lower level and as soon as we went into the hall we could smell mold and it was musty. The room smelt the same. Later in the week, it got better with the air conditioning off so we assume that the smell was from the A/C unit. Otherwise, the rooms were clean and in good shape. All in all, this was a great resort and I would definitely go back again. The only issue for us was the 30-minute walk to the hop on hop off bus stop.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Amazing resort

My husband and I were looking for a quiet week away from reality....... Sanctuary hit the spot! Great resort. Will definitely come back! From beginning to end. We had no regrets The trip was awesome From start to finish of our holidays Juana was a great Butler and catered to all our needs. She was great and I would recommend her to anyone. Melia Marina Varadero: Melia Marina,Cuba

This hotel was pretty nice. good staffs and nice services. But the restaurant is below expectations and the day trip was not scheduled very well, that we were always in rush for a whole day. overall is good.

Sol Palmeras: Good place to stay

First time going to Cuba glad we picked this resort. The resort itself is large somewhat older but very clean & spacious but, that means a lot of walking to get from the 3rd floor rooms to the restaurants, lobby etc even with using the elevators. The resort could use several more washrooms in & around, again a lot of walking from the beach or when you are outside on the resort grounds which may pose a problem if you have difficulty getting around. The many male managers you see strutting around in their shirts & ties looking important are very cold & unapproachable. The staff however make up for them, one of the best things about this place is the "staff" warm & friendly people always willing to go out of their way to help or assist you in any way, outstanding service. The food is the worst - absolutely awful. Would I go back to this place? yes.

Melia Las Antillas: OK resort

The resort was dated and tired! We were with a big group one tub was almost rotted through, 2 tubs were black on the bottom, our bedroom had questionable stains on the bench cushions. First night there was no water or air conditioning. It wasn't busy and the staff was friendly enough. Great staff and activities available at the beach!

Sol Palmeras: Sol Palmeras..Lovely Resort

We spent a week at this resort and was very impressed with resort, grounds, activities and super friendly hotel staff. The beach was fantastic one of the best . Pleasantly surprised with food, wide variety catering for different taste. Lots of choice for drinks, beach activities and nightly entertainment.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Great resort

Hotel is great staff were awesome love the beach bar service food was good good entertainment love how close the resort is to the beatle bar . The only thing we feel the resort might need a little up keep paint etc

Club Kawama: Amazing as always

This is our 7th trip to club Kawama... there was a time it was starting to seem a bit bad but it has taken a complete turn again for the better and reminded us why we fell in love with this place on the first trip. Staff is friendly and caring. Food is good and fresh and beach in the most beautiful

Hotel Los Cactus: Love this resort, but it needs some work

Just returned from our eighth stay. Let me preface these comments by saying I love Cuba 🇨🇺 and this resort ❤️❤️ Great weather,the best staff, gorgeous beach. Only downside was we lost power on & off for two days and then no water 😡😡😡 when we inquired were told the problems had been been fixed! NOT SO ! My husband finally asked that we be moved so we could enjoy our last few days. Staff said the hotel was full, my husband informed them the room next door had been empty  [... read more]for two days.. Luckily Lizbeth Díaz was still there and had us moved immediately. I understand there’s new management, and renovations are ongoing, however small repairs are never getting done. The excuse “it’s Cuba” shouldn’t be a factor when foreign investors are buying up these resorts. We paid for a great holiday and it’s disappointing when you don’t get that ☹️. The lights throughout the resort at night are hit and miss and I’m shocked no one has been seriously hurt. The washrooms below the Buffet need to be fixed and soap would be a bonus so you can wash your hands before dinner. That being said, I feel incredibly safe at Los Cactus, and we will probably give it one more try next year,and hopefully continue to enjoy the great weather and Cuban hospitality.

Memories Jibacoa: In Love With Memories Jibacoa

Went to Memories Jibacoa February 24 to March 3, 2019, travelled as a group of six (three couples). This was my fifth visit to this resort, second for some and first for one couple. This is my favourite resort in Cuba (10 trips) and I am always delighted to get to return. The weather that week was just perfect; sunny and not too hot every day. The staff, from the front desk to the restaurants, the animation team, bars and the maintenance and housekeeping, are all wonderful. Our room was cleaned  [... read more]very well every day, with water restocked daily and we required nothing. The room itself was in building 9, room 2167, right by the beach, central to everything. Four of this group had been there in January 2017 and in just the two years since then we have noticed several upgrades, additions and improvements. There was a mojito bar most evenings in the lobby and they never ran out of mint. We looked forward to a pre-dinner drink there before heading to the a la cartes. The linens and towels are now embroidered with the company name and are great quality, including the face cloths. The beds are firm but comfortable and the AC worked great. There was music in the lobby in the evenings and the evening shows by the pool were fairly decent, especially the circus show strength segments—the contortionist and the athlete who did the human flag on a pole were astounding. There is a bar on the beach now with drink service. We had Luis most days and he was great and we enjoyed talking to him about Cuba as well. We dined in the a la carte restaurants for dinner most evenings and the food was terrific. The beef at the Italian restaurant was probably the best I’ve had in Cuba, and the Campana red wine was pretty good, and at the Cuban restaurant in the evening (beach snack bar in the daytime) they had a nice Cabernet Sauvignon. There was a bottle of rum given to my room for returning guests (I think 4+ times qualifies), and a dinner in the Italian restaurant on Friday night for returning guests, and the dinner was lovely and the musical entertainment also great. The meal at the International restaurant was also impeccable, both food and service. Did notice a lot of people just not tipping and was very disappointed to see that. I know it’s “all-inclusive,” but come on, people, a couple of CUCs here and there for drinks and meals and housekeeping and whatnot won’t kill you, and would be very appreciated by the recipients. These folks work very hard and deserve some appreciation, in my opinion. Unfortunately, three of our six got quite ill with stomach problems, fever and chills, and are still recovering. We know from the timing this happened on-site, and we understand that this can happen but it was very unfortunate as we lost two people (the new ones) for most of the week, and the other had a terrible time of things in the overnight hours and sporadically throughout the day. Kudos to David, the “rookie” (his words) manager, for arranging some food to be made and sent to our friend’s room when he was too sick to come out. His concern seemed genuine and his efforts were much appreciated. We took an evening to go to the restaurant just a few minutes away by foot on the road outside of the resort and were treated to extremely generous helpings of lobster, shrimp, pork and tons of side dishes for just 15-ish CUC each (plus tip), including a glass of wine. I would recommend trying it. I believe it’s called El Cacique, just past the little yellow bridge, left of the resort. My guy and I are familiar with the hill in front of the resort and did a walk up it ourselves which exits through a homestead/farm. A couple of CUCs to the couple there and you’re back out to the road to the resort no problem. There’s an amazing viewpoint up there overlooking the resort and water. I think the entertainment team does guided walks up the hill a few times a week. Do go if you have a chance. I spent six of seven days with my face in the water (too windy one day) and every single time I was lucky enough to see something amazing. I’ll see if I can attach a link to the underwater album. The snorkelling and diving right off the beach are the biggest draw for me. Long review, I know. Just want to be thorough. The warm greetings by the front-line staff (Kiki, Raul, the front desk ladies) make Memories Jibacoa feel like a second home. Always looking forward to going back.

Hotel Los Cactus: New Management

Having been to this resort prior to change in management we have noticed several areas that detracted from our vacation enjoyment. Although these areas did not significantly detract from our overall vacation they did have some effect. Not everything can be laid at the feet of the new owners as they appear to be trying to upgrade the accommodations. However the apparent reduction in staff adversely affected several areas. Namely room cleaning was significantly less than in previous years, two b [... read more]ars had been closed and another with reduced hours leaving the main lobby bar to handle additional custom. With the reduced staff we noticed on several occasions this bar ran out of glassware, mixes for drinks (tonic water for 3 days while two other bars had some but were closed), red and white wine. While some rooms have been upgraded there are still too many requiring attention. The buffet was a very pleasant surprise as the quality and variety of food was much higher than in previous visits. The staff members we had contact with were all as friendly, courteous as in previous years. We know and have met other guests who have been returning for many years (some more than 20) so it still has positive qualities.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Great vacation overall!

We had a great vacation, but first night we were put in the villas, although we had bought the normal hotel rooms. All the villas we saw were old, dated and grim looking. Next day we were given a nice main hotel room. Food is OK, but not great. Beach is awesome. Hotel is close to Varadero town. Recommend a trip to Calle 62 club.

Paradisus Varadero: Paradise at Paradisus

Had a great week. There was a few problems with our first room but they quickly switched us to a great room. Beautiful beaches! Great pools! Staff were helpful, attentive and extremely personable. Should have taken bug spray as I got a lot of bites.
