We stayed at the Crown Paradise Club February 24 – March 3, 2026
The hotel grounds and public areas are lovely and very well kept. Our room was very nice. We had a Club room on the 7th floor in the Crown Tower. Yes this is an older hotel but it has been very well maintained for the most part. The room was really nice with a beautiful jet tub and a bathroom that we could have had a party in, all done in what looked like stone tiles. We had a nice balcony with a fabulous view of the beach and[... read more] the ocean. Our room had no towels when we got there. I phoned housekeeping and in no time there was a maid at the door with towels. The service by all the staff was impeccable. They could not do enough for you.
Their selection of restaurants was great. The main buffet had tremendous variety and I’m sure there is something for everyone. We tried all the Ala Carte restaurants, the little Fujiama sushi bar as well as the snack bar by the main pool. Just a note that you had to dress for the French restaurant and there were no children allowed. Men had to wear long pants and closed shoes. It was quite fancy. Best Lemon Drop martini ever.
Because we had Club rooms we were afforded a number of extra privileges and they were really worth it. There was a plate of fresh fruit, a bottle of wine and there was supposed to be fresh flowers too. I did get my flowers a few days later. There is a private Club Lounge on the 8th floor with floor to ceiling views of the ocean. There was a bar and in the evening they even had hor d’oeuvres. They had a consierge in the mornings for about 4 hours to help you with whatever you needed. She helped us navigate the restaurant reservation system. They also served a smaller breakfast buffet with hot and cold items as well. The mimosas were great. Besides the Club Lounge and the main buffet you could also go to the Italian restaurant where they also served breakfast. It was really great. You helped yourself to the buffet but if they didn’t have the style of eggs you wanted or bacon or breakfast sausage you just ordered straight from your waiter. He would bring out a whole dinner plate full for us. They made the best omelets I have ever had with a huge selection of fillings.
This resort is very family oriented. They have a multitude of activities for kids. We estimated that at least 30 % of the guests were children. So if that bothers you, then this is not the resort for you. We didn’t mind.
There are four pools at this resort. We only frequented the Adults only pool because we couldn’t find any chairs anywhere near the other pools. This was one of my pet peeves and I know I’ve read this complaint before. They do not have nearly enough chairs or shade by the pools so people are going down at 7:00 am or earlier to lay towels to claim chairs. Even at the Adults only pool, they did not have enough chairs or lounge beds. They definitely need more shade around that pool too and they could put more chairs up there. The Adults only pool did have two large hot tubs and a swim up bar which was really nice. The beach is nice but not many chairs or shade on it at all.
The reservation system to book restaurants for supper really leaves something to be desired. It was downright stressful trying to get a reservation. You had to scan a QR code on your phone, be on at precisely 8:00am to book your chosen restaurant or you did not get a reservation. Each room has to do this even if you are travelling with others staying in different rooms. There were a couple of times when either my husband and I or our travelling companions did not get a reservation, or not for the same time. I have to say they did accommodate us and seat the four of us under one reservation when we showed up at the door. But if you had a larger group I could see where it could become a problem.
There were a lot of little bars scattered all over the hotel. You were never far from a fresh margarita or a cerveza. A nice quiet lounge we discovered the day before we left was Trafalgar. It was off in a corner. It was done up British pub style. They had pool tables and I believe they may have had board games too.
Another thing they really need to address is the elevator system. There were only 2 elevators in each tower. They were very slow. Many times only one was working. And the elevators in our tower were allergic to Floor 6 because it would scoot right by regularly. A day or two before we went home someone told us about the service elevators in behind the main elevators so we used those. They were much faster. They are apparently working on a third elevator in the Crown Tower. Hopefully it is operational soon.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Great resort
Barcelo Maya Riviera is a great resort. Checking in was easy and the room was in great shape with all modern conveniences. There was a bit of a damp smell in the room sometimes but I believe that this has to do with the weather and not the maintenance of the resort. Everything was very clean and the landscaping is beautiful. The food was great at all the à la carte restaurants and this was the nicest buffet I have ever experienced. We had a great time!

El Dorado Seaside Palms: Excellent service , very tropical
Rooms are a little dated so if you’re a princess don’t go. Rooms are very clean and comfortable thought. Over all the grounds are very well kept and staff work daily to insure this. Restaurants with reservations can be tricky because all the bookings start on the Friday for the following week, although if you are a late eater say 900pm most let you in without a reservation. If you love to swim in the Ocean may not be for you lots of see weed every morning but staff work endlessly to clean it and[... read more] water is shallow inside the break wall.
Pools are very nice and all have swim up bars. Food was very good but small portions so don’t be shy to order two entrees. I would rate the over all experience a 8/10 and would recommend this resort

Tropicana Hotel: Location, Location, Location
I will start my review with the positives charming older hotel, clean, very nice friendly staff. We had booked a superior room because it had a balcony we had a great ocean view. The location is great we love staying in old town as it is within walking distance of restaurants, bars, shops. What we didn’t know was that our room was an adjoining room. There were guests in the adjoining room and u could hear everything from coughing to sneezing to conversation. Another negative is there is no fridge[... read more] or ice available at the hotel so we had to buy a cooler, ice and water. We stayed for 2 weeks so the cost did add up. The beach is very nice they have palapas and umbrellas but old wooden chairs that lounge back are rickety and not maintained. They should probably be thrown into a bonfire. It also is a public beach so u may have a great ocean until about noon people come and set up. The pools are heated it is a small area really cramped. This hotel could be so much better with some improvements .

El Dorado Seaside Suites: Our best choice!
The view, the rooms, the food, the employees, the atmosphere, everything was perfect!
The only things that were less than ideal were the weather, the sargassum, not bringing slippers and small enough peso bills but these are all out the control of the resort.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Fun times at Coba
I just returned from a three family trip with 5 adults and 5 “kids” ranging in age from 13 to 21. We were there from March 16-23 and here is my review. I will start with the bad and move to the good and luckily there are more positives than negatives to report .
1. Check-in. We arrived very late and there were a few families they knew were arriving at midnight and there was only one person at the desk and it was so slow - even without any unique requests it took hours and even though we had [... read more]called, emailed, had our travel agent reach out regarding linking our reservations together our room was at the opposite end of the resort for our kids and the bed arrangements were all wrong. A bellman dropped everyone off in the rain at 2:00 am with no help to get into the rooms. The next day it took almost the whole day to get one room changed and it was incredibly frustrating. It was such a horrible start to our holiday but luckily service in all other aspects were great. They have to put more staff on at night when they expect a bus full of people to arrive with kids tired and needing to check in and sleep.
2. Food - the buffet had great service, lots of selection and the snack bar was great too when the buffet was closed. It was very hard to book à la cartes and impossible to link reservations across rooms for our family but the ones we did book were terrific. The signage at the buffet was always wrong and things are in weird locations and sometimes they would run out of items early but there was so much variety you could always have a great meal and the wait staff Thomas brought us trays of cappuccinos for breakfast with a huge welcoming smile - so nice!
3. Grounds and pools - Clean, lots of activities, well lit, interesting wildlife and I thought the size of the resort would be a problem but the trolleys run constantly and it’s actually easy and fun to use them to get around. It’s confusing to orient among the different resorts based on maps and not easy to understand what is and isn’t Coba but one adjusts! They kick everyone out of the pools at 6 sharp which might bother some people. I wonder if those hours are longer in the summer months when the sun goes down later.
4. Beach - I was so worried from the reviews that it was small and rocky or choked with seaweed and this was a pleasant surprise because the snorkeling off the beach was the best I have ever seen in Mexico. We could always find loungers and there was both towel and bar service at the beach and convenient bathrooms nearby. It might not have been as beautiful as some beaches in the area and you needed a trolley to get there but we loved it. Bring snorkel gear and water shoes and you will not believe your eyes! Schools of fish, coral, rays and gorgeous tropical fish - far better than excursions I have paid for in the past. We may return just for the snorkeling!
5. Entertainment was a bit quiet for our older kids but they loved it all the same and enjoyed paying 10$ extra to visit the nightclub next door at the adults only. There was certainly no need to upgrade to a better bracelet to access the other resorts in the complex. We didn’t have little ones but the ones we saw seemed so happy. Karaoke was fun and the kids liked the option to play pool and use the arcade (extra $ though)
6. Rooms smelled a bit musty when we arrived but we brought dryer sheets and misted them with essential oil and once the AC came on it was all fine. The rooms are dated but large and comfy and the hot water and shower pressure was great. I know some people found the beds too firm but not us and the wifi was strong and reliable so we could work a bit.
7. While normally I prefer a smaller beachfront resort this place was ideal for our huge group with different needs and I was pleasantly surprised once I was done dealing with the front desk!
I hope this review is helpful and that you enjoy your time at Coba!

My daughter and I certainly had a wonderful time. The grounds were lovely The bedroom was comfortable and spacious. The food at the daily buffet was all anyone could ask for. A great array of food. We also tried the steak and lobster at the steak restaurant. The Mexican restaurant was very good. We loved the Crystal restaurant as well. Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Was a good resort
We had a nice time, service was a little lacking and drinks took long. The room was nice but the jacuzzi tub on the rooftop didn't work so what was the point of having it.
The main hallways of the hotel were quite dirty and it was hard to get pool chairs if you were not down by 6am.

Decameron Isla Coral: Loved this resort
The hotel was lovely. Just the right size you were no more than 5 minutes from anywhere in the hotel. The food was really good and we ate at the à la carte restaurant twice, which also was delicious. The rooms were clean, a little dated. I know this is petty but the lampshade in our room was cracked and rusted. Perhaps they should replace the shade. All rooms had a pool view and our side had large trees on the entrance side

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Great time!
My family of 5 just got back from our stay at Sandos Playacar in Riviera Maya. When we arrived at the hotel we were given a room with a broken toilet. We were told that we wouldnt get a new room until the following day. We were very disappointed but after they realized the toilet couldnt be fixed, the offered us another room. That rooms air conditioning was broken. We went back to the front desk and were assisted by a lovely lady who then upgraded us to a King suite. The upgrade made us very hap[... read more]py and made up for the hiccups at the beginning of our stay. The food at the buffets was good but the a la carte restaurants were amazing, particularly the Brazillian steakhouse. We really enjoyed the picanha. The Mexican restaurant that doesnt require reservations is absolutely amazing as well...we were sad to have only discovered it on our last day. Its beside the cupcake café. The cupcake cafe made delicious strawberry smoothies and nice cappucinos. The pools were nice however we were disappointed that the swim up bar closed at 6pm. The shows were entertaining and well done. We particularly enjoyed the 80's show, the Beauty and the Beast show and the Michael Jackson show. The hotel is very big and could use some more trains...we were often waiting more than 20 minutes for a train and ended up walking most of the time...which is not a bad thing but would be disappointing for people with mobility issues. The monkeys and iguanas were a highlight for our children. They loved watching the monkeys swinging through the trees and seeing all the wildlife around the resort. The staff was great and worked very hard to keep the resort running smoothly. The beach was beautiful! White sandy beach with turquoise waters. Absolutely lovely. The water park was fun but my kids said it was really cold so they didnt stay there for too long which was a bit
disappointing. Overall, it was a really nice family vacation and we made some great memories at Sandos!

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Great family vacation
We had a wonderful family vacation. Nice room and property, good food, beautiful resort and lots to do with the kids (ages 4 to 9). Kids pool area/splash pad/mini water park was nice. Staff were also amazing. We had what was advertised as a 2 bedroom unit however it was really a bedroom plus a living area that has a sofa bed. However the sofa bed did come apart and we managed to sleep all three kids on it. Another thing to be aware of is the distance from Cancun airport - over an hour drive.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: The Smell of Seaweed and Cigarettes .
firstly, it was seaweed season, so the beaches were practically un-swimmable for the whole week, and smelt terrible. this was also, quite obviously, a very smoke friendly resort, with ash trays on top of every trash bin, and smokers puffing away everywhere. including poolside.
i rarely got a hot shower in my room, even the friends that i went with were all complaining about the inconsistent water pressure(if any) and temp of the showers in their rooms as well.
the rooms themselves were n[... read more]ice, bedding was very comfortable, but the doors allowed for a lot of noise from the resort to come through, making ear plugs a necessity for a good nights sleep.
the buffet food was pretty good, though the steakhouse was disappointing. thankfully, the italian and mexican restaurants were very good. the app kept failing on us and we were not able to book the french restaurant, but we heard great things.
the pools were great, the staff was incredibly kind and overall our experience was really good. though, i doubt id ever go back due to the amount of smokers literally everywhere.

Wyndham Grand Cancun: Disappointed
Location of the resort was fantastic. Not far from the airport. Enjoyed the beach/pools. Lots of seaweed on the beach but that was expected due to the time we decided to travel. Service was horrible, was constantly ignored by servers at the bar and food stations. Would not recommend this hotel to POC as you will be ignored or served last by the resort workers.

El Dorado Royale: Excellent Eldorado Stay
My spouse and I just enjoy a 2nd visit to the Eldorado Royale in March of 2026, we visited last year in 2025 at the same time. We had such a great experiences last year, we jumped at the opportunity to return.
Highlights are the amazing pools, great services in all areas of the resort, mature and lush grounds, and fantastic food. The Royale has the best all-inclusive food that we have experienced (we travel once or twice a winter). We really enjoy the variety of the food options for all me[... read more]als - that there are 4 or 5 places to have breakfast and lunch, and then all the different a la quarters for evening. The bar staff are excellent and have top of line spirts available and definitely remember to visit the lobby/martini bar - best drinks.
The resorts if very spread out, which we enjoy as it makes us walk a lot, but for other there is a constant stream of customized golf carts to deliver you where you need to go.
The beach is limited unfortunately from past hurricanes, but there are spots to swim and sit on the beach in many locations.
More inclusive options - Lomas Hospitality provide several activities / excursions at no cost - at day at Maroma Beach, where you can stay at the beach club with a fantastic beach and beach club with great food and drink or you can add a half day snorkelling excursion to this (rays, turtle, large variety of fish) as well as a lot of fun and drink on the trip. There is also activities such as bike rides and horses to explore.
This is a great adults only resorts, not a party place, but a resorts to relax, enjoy the pools, the water, the food and great conversations with people from around the world.
