First Family Trip To Cuba

The Blau Costa Verde was nice(Huge). Our room was in a quiet location(back end nearest to the beach) away from the noise. We actually had our own balcony. Staff was great. Our room was cleaned daily and the ladies made great towel arrangements. We looked forward to the new one every day. The Resort was very clean. Staff was always eager to please. The food was not what we are used to, but we always found something to eat. We never went hungry. The omelette lady was excellent. And I really enjoyed the fried bananas(flambé). Their ice cream was also really good. The Cuban Restaurant was the better a-la-carte, in our opinion. We never went thirsty, thanks to our bartender(swim-up bar). He made excellent Pinna Coladas(our new favourite drink). The pool was nice. However, we spent our time at the beach. White sandy beach, very clean, no garbage(or dead fish). Beautiful turquoise water. Little bit rocky, but we just picked our way along, to get to the sandy part. Never had a problem getting a lounger or an umbrella. We just looked for an empty umbrella, stood under it, and flagged down one of the staff and they would drag 3 loungers over for us. We thoroughly enjoyed the SUNSHINE! We are all nicely tanned. We went on the Catamaran/Dolphin Swim Excursion. It was expensive but it was so worth it. It was an all day excursion. Met up with the Catamaran where they first took us out to a coral reef where we did an hour of snorkelling. Fantastic! Then we went to the Dolphin Marina where we did a 20 minute swim with the dolphins. Wow!! We gave the trainer our camera and he took tons of pictures. We were so thrilled, he got some great shots of us. Then we had a Lobster Lunch. Excellent!! Watched a Sea Lion Show, then we got back on the Catamaran for about another hour of cruising. Lots to Drink, lots to eat, lots of sun, great crew. I would highly recommend this excursion to everyone. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. For our first trip to Cuba, we had an excellent time, and are already thinking of the next trip.

Always a great time

i have been to this hotel 5 times. Once with my 75 year old mother and once with my 5 year old grandson. The children centre is great. Sunay is amazing with the children. I find the staff always smiling and in general willing to help make my vacation enjoyable. The gardeners would get fresh coconut for us daily, the entertainment staff make the activities fun and entertaining. Food is great for Cuba, remember not alot of spices and is buffet so can be limited to what you can put out, but always  [... read more]tasty. They have stations you can get fresh grilled food and at breakfeast omelets made to your request. We always stay in the old section, although dated it is closest to everything and the pool is best for younger children as not as deep. It is always clean. Watershoes for ocean is recommended. The coral at the beach does make it a little rocky, but allows for great snorkeling or just seeing the fish swim around (take some bananas from buffet)

Good place with options.

We stayed in the old section of this resort in early January 2014. Our room was clean and functional and was close to everything. The service was excellent, staff were hardworking and helpful. The evening entertainment was enjoyable. Buffet had a wide variety of food with a good selection of cheeses, cold cuts, seafood and hot dishes. The beach is very nice with enough shade and sunbeds. Overall, we had a relaxing an enjoyable week in Blau Costa Verde.

Amazing

I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone. It truly is as amazing at it looks all around. The staff were all wonderfully friendly and helpful. The rooms were so clean each and everyday. The grounds, pool and restaurants were all great. Can't say enough good things about the Blau. My wife and I will return, for sure!

Very nice property with great beach

Can be a bit of a walk from certain areas, but overall resort very well maintained and choice of restaurants very good. Beach if very nice, and be sure to visit the disco and request your favourite sont.

Fairly good value for the money!

Rooms were large and adequately furnished. Pools are well kept and decks cleaned daily. I would recommend spending the extra to move to the plus side (which I believe you can pay for locally). Buffet is sometimes too small to accommodate all guests, however Italian restaurant is excellent for lunch and dinner. As is the case in Cuba, carry your own toilet paper as it may be difficult to find. Amazing

It was my first time at this resort. Very clean . Staffs are very friendly and helpful, food is fine . Amazing coffee . Beach is really nice and extra activities are very affordable . Definitely going back.

Friendly, family fun

Unusually good food for the area. Fantastic nightly entertainment. Staff generally are eager to please and very helpful. Great swimming beach with clear water that is safe for a very long stretch. Older rooms are not fancy but comfortable and clean. Very busy, noisy family friendly place. Some recent smoking limitations were greatly appreciated and hopefully there will be even more of this in the future.

Good resort

truly enjoyed my stay at the resort. Upgraded to unit 27 which was very quiet and worth the money. Upgrade included a private pool which was nice. The only draw back is that the adult section of the pool has more kids than adults. The beach itself was very relaxing and the snorkeling at the beach was remarkable with lots of fish to see. The food was good and salads where excellent.

Not recommended

I personally would not recommend this resort unless one doesn't care about anything but to go and drink. Food was quite blend and plates were dirty so it was very difficult to eat it. If you don't eat much bread you will here because that was the only food that seem safe to eat. People were friendly and that was the best part. Spend couple of more $ and go somewhere else.

Great location!

The Blau Coste Verde is on a beautiful beach, but the resort is veeeerrrrry tired (at least the old part). Our shower spewed water out in all directions, making it necessary to mop up afterward. Curtains were falling off the rod, etc. That said, we always found something we wanted to eat. The pool was nice and the beach was absolutely beautiful. We were there for sun and sand, so it worked just fine for us.

Great staff, great rooms!

We initially stayed in the older section of the hotel (Block 1), however, our room was quite dark, the air conditioning was broken (perpetually freezing in the room) and the bathtub (no shower) wouldn't drain. The older part of the hotel showed signs of being old; there was rust everywhere and the door had problems locking (key card didn't always want to work). We upgraded to the PLUS section on the 2nd day, which costed us 10 pesos per person per night. This was 100% worth it. The plus section  [... read more]has new rooms, which were brightly lit. The A/C can be controlled via a digital box, which made it accurate, and the washroom had a shower. We also very much enjoyed having an exclusive pool to ourselves, since it meant we didn't have to rush first thing in the morning and try to reserve chairs. There were always chairs available, even at 2 in the afternoon! The exclusive pool was definitely a highlight; it has a swim-up bar, and a deep section as well as a shallower section. The majority of people that used the pool were adults; however, there were quite a few kids in the shallower section. The beach isn't the best that I've seen -- there is quite a few rocks along the edge, which can make it more difficult to enjoy a walk, and the beach isn't that long either. The water sports are quite good though; we very much enjoyed going pedal-boating. The sports offered are also very good. The activity staff are very welcoming, kind and enthusiastic about their jobs. There are also evening programs, which we went to almost every night -- it always started with the kids program (even though we don't have kids, we enjoyed it a lot!) and then went into a show. There were some shows that contained quite a lot of "adult" content -- so perhaps not the greatest for families to be attending. The shows ranged from dance to plays to water ballet to music. There was a wide variety. One of the great benefits to upgrading to PLUS was that we got access to the better a la carte restaurants. Out of the restaurants that were there, we tried the Cuban restaurant, (open to all guests) which had amazing food. Probably some of the best chicken I've ever eaten. We also went to the Italian restaurant (again, open to all guests) which was okay, quality wise. The PLUS restaurant that we went to was the Spanish restaurant, and the food there was fantastic, as was the service. We unfortunately didn't try the PLUS gourmet restaurant, although I heard from a lot of people that it was the best restaurant at the hotel. Finally, we got a lobster dinner (as part of the PLUS package), which was again, just okay. It wasn't anything outstanding. The regular buffet restaurants are decent. Each morning, we had an omelet, which we could add a bunch of ingredients to, so that was a great option for us. Lunch consisted of usually burgers, pasta, some veggies...it wasn't that memorable. The dinners were okay, there was usually a variety of things to pick from, but again, it wasn't anything memorable. Overall, the service we received was great. The employees seem to enjoy their jobs, and we were able to resolve any issues we had fairly quickly. The only problem I encountered was as we were leaving, I requested for a bellhop to come by our room and pick us up to drive us to the front entrance, since our suitcases were quite heavy. I waited for 45 minutes (the front desk said 15 minutes and he'd be there) and then gave up and just lugged everything to the front desk. But that wasn't such a huge issue. The weather left something to be desired (4 days of rain out of our 7 day vacation) but that's beyond the control of the hotel, and they did their best for us to enjoy our vacation anyway. I would definitely recommend this hotel, and I will probably be returning (although I will be immediately purchasing an PLUS package, rather than a regular package).

Greatest stay ever!!!!

Friendly, clean, safe, delicious, THE BEST!!!!! The staff were all so helpful and the grounds were well manicured. We are world class travelers and this was one of our most enjoyable stays. Second time for us in 10 years.

Nice Getaway

The dining room was clean and the food was good. The beach was a little rocky, suggest bringing watershoes. The service was good and the entertainment above average, something different every night. There are activities everyday for those who wish to participate and if you need to get out of the sun there are plenty of shaded areas.

Amazing resort..

This resort is amazing. From grounds to staff to food, definetely would recommend it. We have stayed here 4 times and are looking forward to our fifth.. Our kids 7,5 always look forward to Blau Costa.
