Overall was good value for our week stay.
Rooms were dated but can look at upgrading to a more updated room. We didn’t as we had everything we needed and don’t spend much time in the room.
Food was good and has something for everyone’s taste. Liked that they had traditional Dominican food items and the fresh fruit was amazing ( Papaya, passion fruit, mango, pineapple etc..). The lunch time snack bar at Pescado was great. Good hamburgers, and loved the fried chicken some days and roasted chi[... read more]cken other days. Best roasted chicken we ever had as they seasoned it well.
Resort is compact which is nice and loved the Infiniti pools on the reef side along with plenty of shade.
It was also nice to be centrally located in town and did venture off to explore and visited Sosua beach to enjoy fried fish and beers.
The grocery store is close also, and was nice to pick up some fresh mint for mojitos since this was only available on select side (adults only section).
Another tip, the safe is not included with the room and need to pay separately for this and they do charge for wifi. We opted to go with eSIM instead with data package so we could use off resort when walking around town or using WhatsApp to communicate with friends and family.
Good size pools and enjoyed the local music they played as opposed to the American music normally played at resorts.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Clean, kind staff and lovely trip
The hotel had a quiet wing/side and a main one. Rooms were clean, food was great! (Beware of their medium rare burgers) Drinks are strong, à la cartes were good! Friendly staff that care. Beach was clean! Wifi was in most areas free of charge and the nightly entertainment was lovely. Would of liked knowing they had a white party on one of the nights to come prepared but that is such a minor thing to focus on! Would book again! Their excursion selection was great as well as the mall within the re[... read more]sort complex with local goods!

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Awesome resort
The hotel is excellent. The food and service was top notch in all locations: the main buffet, the "snack bar" and the three a la carte restaurants. We especially acknowledge Luz at the snack bar, Domingo and Ana López at the buffet restaurant and the two omelette chefs, who made you smile as they created delicious made-to-order omelettes. Another server who was personable and made it very pleasant as she served was Grisledy , who often worked serving drinks at the entertaining shows in the eveni[... read more]ng. Liz gave us exceptional service at the front desk, as did several others. One front desk chap, whose name started with A, (Alduvis?) went above and beyond to help us with information for a shopping trip into town. Another standout was our chef at the Japanese restaurant, who kept us in stitches with his entertaining banter, nicknames and lively culinary presentation.
We were very pleased with the number of well-stocked bars, pristine and elegant public bathrooms, comfortable lounge seating, tables to play bridge, attractive lobby sumptuous towels for the beach, ample lounge chairs at the beach and pool. Our rooms were cleaned promptly each day by friendly, helpful teams of positive cleaners. Every staff member who helped is was polite and accommodating. We Love the emphasis on reducing waste, the water was safe and the system of environmentally friendly water was very inspiring.

Spent 7 days here and I would for sure go back. Staff were great, did their very best to accommodate my mobility issues. Rooms were dated but clean and extremely comfortable. Guest Services Yuliana was a sweetheart and was there to help with whatever we needed, pool was clean, drinks were yummy, try the Superman it was my favourite drink, the VIP salesmen were not pushy, say no and they left you alone. Select Sosua Adults Only, Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: First time here
We just spent nine nights here from February 24th to March 7th 2025 and throughly enjoyed every day. We had a ground floor ocean view room which provided walk out to the main pool and the main bar. What more could you ask for!!! The room was very quiet with hot water showers every day and excellent maid service, the only drawback back was a lack of electrical outlets ( which I did mention to the reception desk) only two outlets, one in bathroom and two in the room ( both fully occupied). Not a[... read more] big deal as we made due for charging phones.
The food at both the international and the buffet was fantastic, and all drinks were excellent, and were Top shelf. The only drawback was the beach which is somewhat smaller and because it is in a cove , it has a very strong undertow. On the far slide of the Casa Marina section is a larger beach which you can walk on , but because it is not part of a resort, you will pay for a lounge chair and umbrella.
The select part of this resort is well worth the extra cost, and well were there, new lounge chairs were replacing the older ones, which then went to the beach area. New Manager we were told.
In closing the resort in both sections were kept very clean and the restaurants in the Marina section was good, so say we will come back again and maybe get swim out room

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Nice Vacation
My wife and I had a nice 7 day vacation and really enjoyed ourselves.
Rooms are old and would need better upkeep but they were cleaned everyday and ultimately we weren't there to stay in our room. The grounds were for the most part well maintained. The pool and surrounding area would need need some additional TLC with loose and missing tiles here and there.
The staff was great, the food was good and the beach was beautiful.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great Resort
This was our 3rd time here. It's a beautiful resort. The grounds are so well maintained. The orchid garden is my favorite !.
The staff are the most friendly people very. Not once did we encounter any issues.
We did have a delay when we arrived as our room wasn't ready. This was a bit frustrating as we were tired from our early morning flight.
We had requested a ground or 1st floor with a King bed. Ended up on top floor (2nd) as other request not available. Buildings are 3 floors ..[... read more] ground, 1st and 2nd floors. Good thing we could still do stairs as we are seniors...lol.
Wasn't too sure about some of the food at first, but didn't take long what not to have. I did find some of them meats where overcooked, especially the chicken at the buffet... very dry.. But, always had a great selection, and enjoyed it . Didn't care for the Italian A La Carte. Selected the lasagna, didn't care for it at all. The lasagna at the buffet was much better.
Saw a lot of negative comments on a FB group that the pool wasn't clean, we never had a issue with it. Of course you'll have leaves or bugs from time to time, that's normal. The beach was also very well maintained. .. windy, but lovely. Was surprised that they didn't have bar service by the pool.(staff member taking orders) or at the beach. But, access to a bar was never far away.
Found out you had to "reserve" your chairs early by the pool if you wanted a good spot that provided shade later in day, Only 1 day when we did the half day City tour we couldn't get chairs at the pool or beach.. very disappointing.. Later found out about the Cruise ships that have excursions to come to the resort for 5 hours. They took any remaining available chairs. Sure enough I noticed at 11am a stream of people coming in with blue towels, different to the ones provide to us staying at the resort.
Our room was very clean, no complaints there. Funny thing, the table and 2 Charis in our room had been removed, but not a big deal. Know this from several other times we've stayed at resorts with same room selection. Bar fridge always stocked. (Beer and pop).. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion provided.. Ok, but next time I think I'd take my own shampoo. Had to request face cloths, not left as normal with other towels, only did the once, and they where always then provided.
A virus was still going around the resort. So many people had it. Thank goodness only lasted 24 hours. My husband got but I didn't. Remember to take Pepto Bismol with you, and wash your hands and use the hand sanitizer provided at the buffet, and A La Cart locations.
Had a lot fun playing some of the games .. darts, ring toss, golf, corn hole toss. Meet a lot of really nice people.
Never any issues with people getting out of hand from drinking too much, at least not that we ever saw.
Since this was our 3rd visit to this resort, (have also been to Punta Cana and La Romana) we didn't really need to do a lot of the excursions. Our concierge (Taveras) was most helpful. He arranged for a taxi to take us to some spots we had not seen before. Umbrella and Pink Streets .. ok alleys... a must see ! Also went to City Square, the Cathedral and a great Cigar Store Vivonte near the square. Then to Jumbo to buy Brugal Rum, Santa Domingo coffee and vanilla.
Another great trip with more memories. If you haven't been to Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada, it's worth trying !!

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Lovely well kept small resort
Blue Bay Doradas in Puerto Plata D.R. is a lovely, small resort that still has 3 pools, entertainment every night and a beautiful large well kept beach.
It is an older resort but very well maintained. The grounds are groomed and are very attractive. Our room was kept very clean and when they changed the sheets they changed the mattress cover too! No problem getting towels, face cloths etc and plumbing worked fine. Lots of hot water and good water pressure. The food was over cooked most times a[... read more]nd after a few days it all tasted the same. They did get 2 new chefs in there for 2 days near the end of our vacation and boy what an improvement! So the only thing not up to par was the food. Specialty restaurants were better. But only 3 of them. We were there for 14 days and I was bored. Ten days and I was ready for home. The Playa Dorada mall is only a five minute, safe walk but very lacking and run down after covid. If you are looking for a quiet vacation this is the place. People were all very friendly and mostly Canadians. You can book excursions right at the resort. Our flight was with Air Transat and very good other than my video player didn't work so they gave me extra snacks etc on the trip down. Bus rides were good to and from the resort. Good vacation and glad to be home again.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Disappointed Returning Guest Room 3254
After having a good trip here in Feb2024 this time we started our stay in a room without a functioning toilet and a shower that leaked because the tub was cracked. This led to the entire floor being wet most of the day creating a slippery and dangerous situation. This room should never have been sold. Management are aware of it and I am certain they continued to put people in this room after they moved 3 days into our stay. Each day I pleaded to get toilet repaired and each day was disappointed[... read more]. We also heard other people with similar issues. VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Not what we expected for a resort with a 4.5 star rating
Our expectations for this resort was much higher. The food was average at best and was never hot. The beach bar was always staffed with one person which made for very long lines waiting to get a drink. Not sure how this resort holds a 4.5 star rating. Would not go back.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Our second home!
Honestly, I don't know where to start. But I guess let's start with the best part, the staff. From the moment you check in to the moment you leave, you are treated with the utmost respect, such kindness and a feeling of belonging. I start my day off with the best coffee in the court yard, In my opinion, Yara makes the best! then onto breakfast, where we were greeted every day by amazing staff! A big thank you to generoso, he made sure we never left without a smile. The amazing animation team [... read more]had us all up and made sure our day was full of laughter and fun, never a dull moment. A big thank you to Pina Colada, Lil weyne, ninga, Road Runner, Smiley, and Rambo. You guys are amazing! The resort is small and just what we like. The rooms are good and clean with friendly cleaning staff our room was always clean and well stocked with drinks. Do I think the resort is the most stunning? No, but it's the sweetest, well-kept, and absolutely feels like home. One last think I definitely cant forget, if you ever need assistance with anything gust related find Manuel he is amazing!! We were returning guests, and I can't wait to rebook for next February! A must visit in my books

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Needs improvement
I am writing to give feedback on my recent stay at Viva Heavens Wyndham in Puerto Plata DR from Feb 26 - March 6. I travelled with my boyfriend and one other couple.
I found the hotel room to be adequate however, was lacking in some of the finishing details. The spacers to lay tiles in the bathroom were cemented into the floor instead of being removed before grouting. There were numerous spots where paint drippings dried onto the walls. The locking mechanism for the patio door was not very s[... read more]ecure. On at least 3 separate occasions during the week, we had to have our room keys reprogrammed as they would not work. Our friends in room 4305 had to have the entire door handle mechanism replaced after 3 consecutive days of it not working. Seems like details were not a priority.
The alcoholic drinks were lacking. Beer and wine was ok, however the sparking white champagne tastes like apple cider, not sparkling wine. It was difficult to get some drinks made at the bar ie Chunky Monkey (no chocolate), no Frappuccino at coffee bar (no chocolate). No cranberry juice one day, no mint for a mojito another day. Not acceptable to be running out of staple items for a bar.
The premium brands of alcohol were reserved for Wyndham members only which was disappointing.
The pool area was very nice however was lacking sufficient chairs and shade. More umbrellas or a roofed sunshade is required.
The most disturbing thing that happened, happened near the pool. An elderly lady was walking out of the pool. She slipped and fell and went down very hard on the edge of the pool. A couple of guests came to her rescue. She sustained a very large bruise and deep cut from the edge of the pool. One guest ran to the towel station at the pool and asked for a first aid kit, which they gave to them. The first aid kit was not very well equipped, and alcohol had leaked out of the first aid kit, so the contents were not sterile anymore. The two guests provided first aid to the lady and then took her to the front desk to report the accident. At no time, despite there being several bartenders at the pool bar and the person at the towel bar who handed the first aid kit over, came to the person’s aid or inquire about if she was OK. No hotel staff came to their aid at all.
We sampled all of the a la carte restaurants except for the Dominican one. All were very good. No complaints at all. The buffet was adequate but repetitive and not a lot of variety. We had to ask the staff at the omelette station for bacon and several days he said it was not available? Again, why was it not available and why was it hidden and had to be asked for? The beach restaurant was again repetitive and not a lot of variety.
The beach at this resort was lovely. Lots of shade and lounge chairs.
It was a pleasurable vacation but I would not recommend or revisit this same resort. The resort staff and management need to be more attentive and pay attention to detail in order to be considered to be offering a 4 or 5 star experience.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: was alright, better than -40C!!
Be prepared for lotssssssss of walking, as well as plenty of steps and angled ground. We didn't mind it too much, got our exercise in!
The rooms were good. The cleaning ladies will help themselves into your room and start knocking on the bathroom door even if you're in there. And do not disturb basically means don't walk in just keep banging on the door. Be prepared to never sleep in either.
I got wicked sick one day as did my husband and many many others we talked to at the resort. We ar[... read more]e guessing its from the food, not sure. Mine was that bad I had to see a medic and get an IV and drugs. Also note!! You can get a taxi to a pharmacy (or they deliver to the resort during day hours) and you'll pay pennies compared to what the hotel medic charges for the same thing. You don't need prescriptions in DR, so anything you want you can get (and stock up at home!!). Lesson learnt after a $700 doc visit.
We went to a pool once, there are many pools scattered throughout, all seemed decent.
The beach was meh. But we didn't care, it's better than -40C at home.
First day we got there we had no hot water but they fixed it the next day.
All In all it was good. Probably would try a different resort instead.
