Sunscape Curacao Resort: A hidden gem on a beautiful island

We recently traveled to Curacao and stayed at the Sunscape all inclusive resort. We were pleasantly surprised at the beautiful island and the resort amenities. The resort was very welcoming and eager to please the visitors. Upon checkin with Danielle, which was efficient and quick, we were able to upgrade our room for a very reasonable and discounted price. The room was very clean and large overlooking the ocean and resort. The restaurants were good. Food was good, especially at the Italian and  [... read more]steak house. The buffet offered a good variety at all meals, however, the service was not consistent. The resort offers many activities for children and adults. The pools are clean and well maintained. Drinks at the bars were very good. The beach and ocean are very nice. Overall, we were very pleased with the entire experience and would highly recommend the resort. It is a great deal for the price. We will definitely be returning next year.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Best resort ever!

This is the nicest resort we have ever stayed at in 20 years.the beach is beautiful ,the staff were friendly and helpful. The foods was very good especially in the a la carte restaurants. We had a lovely time and can't wait to go back.The rep we had was wonderful..so knowledgeable and helpful.

Sandals Royal Curacao: Most beautiful vacation

This was the best place to take a vacation. You are surrounded by nature including beautiful birds and friendly iguanas. The place is very clean, quiet and well maintained and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The island tour and the Williamstad tour are well worth it.

Sandals Royal Curacao: Santa Barbara-

Santa Barbara was definitely a beautiful resort but they have a long way to go if they are planning on keeping All-Inclusive packages.There was next to no entertainment during the day or evenings.There were no entertainment staff trying to get people involved in pool side activities and the few days that they had singers at dinner, they were gone by 10 p.m. There is only one restaurant that you go to for dinner unless you want to "pay extra".You are entitled to only one a la carte depending on t [... read more]he date that you book.(Even though we had the time booked we still waited app 1 1/2 hours as we were a party of Five).The drinks were mediocre-if I heard "not on your package you need to pay extra" once more I would have screamed.The staff however are very friendly.We have stayed at many all-inclusives before, have spent way less money and have gotten alot more than what we got for our very expensive vacation at Santa Barbara.Never have I gone away and have gone to bed at 11p.m. because there was simply nothing to do.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Beautiful vacation

Sunscape Curacao Resort was very nice and all staff are very friendly and helpful. Beautiful hotel grounds, beach. The only thing is we were travelling with our 1.5 year old son and there weren't any kid friendly pools for him to play in. Also we had asked to have his dinner to come out before all of ours and it wouldn't and he was hungry or would be soo tired fall asleep without dinner. Sunscape Curacao Resort: Relaxation Plus!

The grounds were kept in immaculate shape. While there were a lot of guests at this resort, it never seemed crowded. The service was excellent. Our Sunscape representatives were more than willing to help out and find answers for our questions. The only drawback was the buffet restaurant which tended to have a lot of selection but most of it was greasy food. I love salads and it was very difficult to find salads. Sunscape Curacao Resort: Fantastic!

We travelled as a group of 11. Ages 12 to 50. We had a wonderful time. Food was great. Rooms clean, and beds very comfy. Entertainment staff were amazing! snorkelling off beach was perfect. The island is small and very safe for touring. I would definitely go back to the Sunscape in Curacao.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: A resort that is in need of an upgrade

Although the resort was neat and clean the rooms were very dated and unacceptable to me. The rooms were very musty smelling and I had to ask for a change in room which the resort did provide to me in the newer section of the resort.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Beautiful country, Sunscape good/average

The resort grounds are absolutely beautiful thanks to the amazing grounds people. The beach rocky but water and break-water wall is fantastic for swimming and snorkeling. Food OK - fish fantastic, staff friendly for the most part, some are absolutely miserable. Entertainment staff seem to all be apprentices and a bit unsure what to do but willing to get you motivated and try to make your vacation fun. Queen Emma pontoon bridge neat to see. Place Bieu a fantastic place for lunch for a true Curacao home cooked meal - Iguana soup available. All in all a great vacation at a nice resort! Sunwing flight attendants not very nice on the trip to Curacao (flight back better), seem to just be interested in getting their job done by the schedule and don't care about the people they are actually supposed to be serving!

Nice room, clean grounds. Nice variety of restaurants. Beef found to be tough, sand bugs biteting the legs is a problem (unknown if anything can be done about them ) Polite and helpful staff. Excelent weather.

Sandals Royal Curacao: Totally Relaxing & Great Service

This resort is just beautiful and the grounds are well maintained. The food at Medi (their buffet) and Shore was very good. This resort is not for the party crowd and is very quiet, which was perfect for us. The only downside to this resort is that it's about a 30 minute car ride to Willemstad. We were aware of this before booking our vacation, so I can't say that it was a surprise. Overall the island of Curacao is very nice, the people are extremely friendly, and the weather was great.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Great resort on a wonderful island paradise!

Curacao is a fantastic island with lots to do and see. The location of the resort made it easy to explore as it is close to the picturesque town of Willemstad and there is a free shuttle twice per day each way. The resort itself is being upgraded and the Royal Tower is the most modern but we stayed in an older section that was rather dated but was clean with a nice view. There are lots of activities on the resort with a calm lagoon separated from rougher seas by a long reef that has amazing snor [... read more]keling, especially on the sea side if you are a good swimmer. There are many dive locations around the island with excursions run from the hotel dock. The food was abundant with lots of variety and quite good. Only disappointment was the Japanese restaurant. No sushi just the teppanaki grill style but the chefs were entertaining. The buffet has lots of variety and there are 4 other restaurants. Great variety at the bars and most of the staff are very friendly and eager to please. It is worth taking advantage of tours to see other parts of the island or renting a car to do the same. We did 3 site-seeing trips with Sunwing guide Danielle who was excellent and very knowledgeable about Curacao. Love the party bus night out on the town! All and all it was a great vacation.

Sandals Royal Curacao: Nice Resort

Overall, my husband and I enjoyed our week at Santa Barbara Resort. What we enjoyed most was the natural setting, small non commercial island and the resort. Our room was nicely appointed; the towels in the room were very inconsistent with nice fluffy towels to greyish well used and often did not get facecloths or hand towels replaced. There was a very large group of 350 people and we were always asked if we were with the group as they had a different all inclusive than us. There is really only  [... read more]one main restaurant with the all inclusive package; we were able to go the the Shore just once or pay extra so we chose to just stay with the Medi which offered a great selection and we were always pleased with the food. The service is not great, you have to ask for beverages and refills as they don't approach you often. The resort is clean, staff pleasant and we would definitely go back.

Sandals Royal Curacao: Great golf resort 4.5 stars

We stayed January 11-18, 2015. The golf course is in great condition and we were told it is the best course on the island. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The beach is small but nice and family-friendly. Beach chairs were always available. The pool area is nice however they do not have a separate adults-only pool. On the weekends they have an influx of patron patrons from South America.. The number of children at the pool increased on the weekend and they seem to  [... read more]take over one of the two pools. They do not have a swim-up pool bar and the service at Splash the pool-side restaurant waa little slow. The staff are friendly and accommodating however the increased weekend traffic seem to slow things down quite a bit. The resort also regularly hosts company conventions which can impede the level of service provided. The marina restaurant was very nice and the staff were very friendly. We did not rate the resort five stars because of the slower service on the weekend and due to the company conventions. We also had issues at check-out which were eventually cleared up. They tried to charge us for our rounds of golf even though they were included in our package. We had to contact our Sunwing rep to get it resolved. FYI the beverage cart on the golf course is included because it is supplied by the resort but the there is miscommunication among the staff so you should check your bill. We rented a car and drove around the island. The nicest place to go is downtown Williemstaad. We would go back to this resort.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Tired

The hotel was a disappointment as it was like a best western, tired, but clean. The staff was wonderful and friendly, had the best beach on island, had best snorkeling. The food was horrid. The ala-carte restaurants were not worth the time. We spent over half of the time eating off the premises.

Sandals Royal Curacao: Great Place - Loved It!

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful resort. The grounds were gorgeous - so many beautiful palm trees - and very well maintained. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We spent most of our time at the beach, there are always plenty of beach chairs and there is a small beach hut to get drinks and bbq hamburgers, hotdogs, and delicious chicken or beef kabobs. If you want more variety the pool restaurant is nearby. At first I was a bit disappointed with the beach since you can only swim ou [... read more]t so far and then get cut off by a long pier. But I ended up loving it since it had a nice sandy bottom (which I found out from other people I met is not the case at some of the other hotels) was great for swimming and snorkeling and had a nice gradual slope from shallow to well over your head if you want to go that deep. The pool area was also very well appointed with never any shortage of chairs nor beach towels. And the Splash restaurant nearby for food and drinks. We had the all-inclusive pkg which you have to understand is a relatively new concept for this hotel since it is primarily an EP resort. So don't expect it to be like an all-inclusive in Mexico for example. Having said that, we were not at all disappointed, it was just different and going to the SunWing briefing made it easier for us to understand what was included and what wasn't so there were no surprises. All in all, we loved this island for its authenticity, its people and culture, and we absolutely loved this resort - would definitely return!

This hotel exceeded our expectations for an all-inclusive resort. We travelled with two small children (2.5 and 4.5 years old) and stayed in a partial waterview room (West Wing, nearest the beach). The positives: - The exceptional service and sincerity of the staff. As they say, they were "Dushi!" Everyone we met seemed genuinely happy to work at the resort and to interact with guests. Medi (the main restaurant) provided healthy options at all meals and the food always seemed fresh and generally well-prepared - The international flare of the guests from around the world (we met mainly Canadians, South Americans, and Europeans) lent a cosmopolitan vibe to the resort Room for improvement: - Lidded plastic cups with straws for children - Foot-level taps to rinse off sand around the beach entrances in the West Wing would help control the amount of sand tracking into the hotel suites - Slightly warmer pool temperature would have been nice - A playground for children would have been a nice touch on the grounds

Sandals Royal Curacao: Incredible Stay at Santa Barbara

My fiancé and I stayed at Santa Barbara during the week of New Year’s Eve & had a fantastic & fun filled experience, we regret not booking for 2 weeks. For the past 5 years we travel to the Caribbean for NYE/Christmas and Curacao has hands down been the best vacation spot, with the weather being the #1 highlight. The Santa Barbara resort is a beautifully situated on an old plantation, it is very isolated and about 30 minutes to Willemstad or 20 to Jan Thiel, that being said if you need to be  [... read more]able to leave the resort for excitement, either get a car or stay closer to the city. We rented a car which gave us the freedom to tour around the island, there is a lot to do, but everything is pretty spread out. Resort: The scenery at Santa Barbara could not be more beautiful, you’re in the middle of a lush but rocky desert situated on pristine blue waters. The resort is well maintained and very modern. There are 2 pools and then a long strip of beach. The beach is in front of a blocked off waterway in a bay, so when sitting on the beach you see a wall where boats go by on the other side and then a large rock mountain on the other side. The resort is fairly large end to end and all you need is centrally located with the exception of Shore Restaurant & Golf on the East side and Ocean Encounters on the West, that being said stay on the East side if you plan to golf & on the West if you plan to dive. The resort has perfect Wi-Fi, but you pay quite a bit for it. The customer service in all areas of the resort was top notch, we received the best experience from Sugheeny who manages reservations and Medi as well as Missy at the pool, we never went hungry or thirsty during the days at the pool! We also had several run-ins with the Director of Food & Beverage – Rob, I believe it was, he was a very pleasant man who you could tell had extensive experience in the industry. He does a phenomenal job with the food and beverages, everything was outstanding! Another thing I liked about this island/resort is that you can tell people were living well & well educated - we never felt a culture barrier and no one bothered us for a tip, although we still did tip. In terms of the room, we upgraded to the premier ocean view and the view was spectacular. The cleaning service did not come until later in the day, but this wasn’t a problem since we were never there. Plus, there were no bugs anywhere, not even outdoors. Food: The food was absolutely delicious and very easily accessible all hours of the day. We had the all-inclusive package and it included everything except Jun’s Sushi & Bella Italia, which is an Italian style café with Gelato (It seemed like we received ~30% off at these locations because the bill was always less than expected). The buffet, Medi, was excellent for all meals and changed daily for dinner. In addition to the buffet, you are able to have lunch at the pool at Splash (fish tacos are amazing!) or you can go to Pincho’s on the beach. For dinner you also have the option to dine at Shore which is on the East side – this restaurant was incredible! Everything from the food to the service to the atmosphere was impeccable! Try to go for the sunset – such a beautiful view Activities/Entertainment: Each night there is something different playing at Medi, also the resort puts on a beach party once a week with dinner and entertainment. For NYE they went all out and they put on a fantastic pool party with a live band, food/drinks & fireworks – it was a lot of fun! During the day they had music at the pool once for the week and you also have the option for golf, tennis and scuba/snorkeling. They do not have a busy bar or nightclub scene, so you would have to leave the resort if you are looking for night life. Also, there is a fee for tennis and if it’s a windy day, I recommend not wasting your money. Overall our experience at Santa Barbara was our favorite thus far, it was a luxurious vacation with the best weather we have ever had on an island this time of year. I would mostly recommend this for a family vacation as we saw a lot large families and kids around. There weren't any other couples around that were our age (high 20's) but this wasn't an issue for us, we didn't feel annoyed being around all families and kids. We will return 100%, probably even NYE 2016!

Blue Bay Village: Great experience!

Accommodations are spacious, clean and very well maintained. The whole village is fantastic to live in, very family oriented, a very pleasant experience. The beach is just right and the people are amazing, very european feeling.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Beach vacation ruined

Thank you very much for your follow up regarding our trip. We did some scuba diving, which was awesome; as well we spent a day in Williamstad. For the most part, we had a good time, mainly due to the mostly excellent service and friendly staff. There were however, a few disappointments. 1. Beach - not sure if you were aware, but it was under construction for 5 of the 7 days we were there and that was because they did not work on Sunday's. Given that was our travel days we did not get a chance to [... read more] enjoy the beach at all. They were trucking in sand and regrading beach. The noise from the heavy equipment was unbearable. It was like being in the middle of a construction site in downtown Toronto! If we had known, we would have gone somewhere else. 2. Snorkelling at the resort and water sport activities such kayaking, canoeing, etc. - not only was the beach being dugout, they were dredging the protected/lagoon area and repairing the breakwall. Therefore the water was so murky one could not see anything while snorkelling. Also, as a result of the dredging, non-motorized water sports were very limited as you would have to stay away from the extreme large machineries. If it hadn't been for the friendly staff, our rating would be "zero"! We would recommend this resort since the beach construction is now done. What we are asking is for reimbursement of 2 of the 7 days per person for the beach and lagoon areas not being available. We believe this is a fair request as we did enjoyed the rest of the resort.
