Royalton Hideaway Saint Lucia: Phenomenal location and resort!
The Royalton was still under construction in some areas but one could hardly tell. Rooms and decor were the nicest we have ever seen. The food selection was above expectations to say the least and the staff were incredibly helpful and went out of their way to help any way they could. You could tell that for many of the servers that this was their first job. A little disorganized, but I am confident they will have it nailed down in no time flat.

Rex Papillon: Great resort
This is a smaller resort which we enjoyed thoroughly. Our room was fresh and recently renovated. We had a garden view room which had a view of the ocean. The room had flat screen tv, fridge, king bed, safe and two luggage racks and coffee maker. Resort had a nice large pool with swim up bar. The Italian and Asian restaurants we excellent and the Buffett had tasty food. We traveled in a group of 4 and unfortunately each of us had tummy issues. A couple of times from the beach grill and then from [... read more]the buffet. We talked to another couple who had the same issues from the buffet and we determined it was the chicken wings. The entertainment was average but there was something on every night which was nice. The staff at this resort are outstanding, they were so friendly and accommodating. The beach is beautiful and you can walk for a long way down the beach. Apart from our tummy issues we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. I would definitely recommend this resort.

Rex Papillon: Excellente
This is the smallest all inclusive Mark and I have been to. I think overall there was about 100 guests. This has its advantages. There was plenty of room on the beach, no line ups in the buffet, and everybody got to know one another.
The resort has an exclusive pizzazz. It is situated on the best beach in St. Lucia and is much prettier in person than the professional photos I saw. The town of Rodney Bay is right across the street and we walked there everyday. It really gave you a [... read more]feel of the "Caribbean vibe." Everything was there, supermarkets, duty free liquor stores, shopping malls , outdoor cafes, pizza etc.. Folks ..this is not a walled-off resort with mass tourism.
In the past, I have been to many resorts where the service was sadly lacking. Rex Papillon staff are professional, polite, eager to please and always a smile on their faces.
Beach is fantastic. Clear turquoise water with white sandy beach. I swam everyday and one day I swam along the shoreline to Spinnakers, (a bar and grill) about 1/4 of a mile down the beach.
The food surpassed what I had expected. The chef and team do a perfect job. Everything was of quality standard and there was a perfect blend of local food. I tried mostly everything and this is out of character for me as I'm a fussy eater and usually go for things that I am used to. Selection may be smaller than on a higher scale resort , but everything is sooooo good. Less is more. Chef Gordon Ramsay will tell you that!
In sum, you won't find towel animals made up in your room (boo hoo) and you won't find a sheet draped over your four poster bed, calling it a honeymoon package with a $400.00 fee (boo hoo again). What you will find is fantastic people, fantastic beach, fantastic food and a clean resort with comfortable beds. All my needs were met! .

Secrets St. Lucia Resort and Spa: Great Resort!
It is an amazing place for couples as well as for families. My husband and I enjoyed very much every corner of the resort: our room, the restaurants, the ones you have to reserve and the ones with buffet, the swimming pools, the gym, the tennis court, the beach and the hall where the entertainment was. Every place was extremely clean. The people working there were very friendly and their service was fabulous. We loved the place. It was very relaxing.
We found two inconveniences though, we fo[... read more]und it very unusual to find the little fridge in our room empty…. not even a bottle of water. When we mentioned it at the reception desk, we were told it was the policy of the hotel. When we bought gifts at the gift shop and paid with American dollars they gave us change in local currency. When we complained, they told us it was the bank policy. But when we went to the capital, Castries, and bought gifts there and paid with American money they gave us change in American dollars. We do not understand this difference in policy.

Royalton Hideaway Saint Lucia: Getting There !
We were among the first group of guests to arrive on February 18th. The greeting was very warm, staff waiting at the coach with hot towels and rum punch. However they were not very organized regarding the Hideaway guests, we waited until all the Royalton guests were organized before we were taken to the Hideaway. Check in was very slow as they were having computer glitches, but nothing awful. On the way to our room the elevator broke down which was concerning, so we simply didn' t use it for th[... read more]e remainder of the stay. The main elevator didn' t work for our whole stay.
The room was absolutely stunning, with a lovely balcony. Very quiet air conditioning. Over the course of the week things such as glasses were gradually added, however anything we asked for was brought quickly.
Housekeeping staff were excellent. The phone jack was behind the headboard, so it had to be removed in order to hook up the phone, we found this quite amusing! On the first two mornings we were woken up early by workers, hammering and building, but someone must have complained as this stopped.
The food in the restaurants was delicious, the only food concern was that the food in the buffet under the lamps was cold. The service in most of them was extremely slow. one evening in the Mexican restaurant I had completed my main course and my husbands meal hadn't arrived. We left and went to the sports bar, where the service was always very good. A couple of nights later we tried again, this time all went well for us. however many others walked out due to the slow service. The bar service everywhere was excellent, on the first night my husband asked for Courviossier and the next night it was there, great service.
The pools and beach were great, we are beach people so spent our days there. Excellent swimming, nice and deep. I would be concerned once the report is up and running about the space for everyone.
During our stay there seemed to be no differentiation between the Royalton and Hideaway guests, everyone could go everywhere this didn' t matter during our stay as the resort was quiet. But I would have concerns if it was full, as we paid for an adult only resort and would expect exactly that.
Overall it was a wonderful week, the staff were so friendly and helpful. The island is beautiful, perhaps they should have advised the first guests that they weren't quite ready, we would have then been informed.

Sandals Halcyon Beach: What an experience of luxery
Our trip to Sandals Halcyon, Feb 16-23 2017, was an incredible experience. From the moment we turned off the busy, hectic street in St Lucia life seemed to stand still. Our butlers, Davina and Claudia, absolutely took care of us. Whether it was preparing our intinerary to letting us back in our room after a late night tranquility pool dip or nursing my hangover on the beach, they were exceptional examples of high service staffing. The food was great and we highly recommend Mark at the sushi stat[... read more]ion. Shari, Shani (sic) were great ladies to spend time with at the pool bar. As much as we loved Chewy we did find it imposing that on the first day he was hitting us up to rebook at this resort or others. I experienced this at the Bahia Principale resorts and found it off putting. Once I reviewed his quotes to us I was able to see some flaws in the pricing. The next time he approached us, once again as we drank and socialized, my husband discussed the pricing with him. Chewy agreed that his quotes did not include air flight, prices were in CDN but would convert to US funds and the stay was only 5 days not the 7 we always book for. Unfortunately, everybody sitting with us heard this conversation also and realized maybe early booking is not cost effective for Canadians. As much as the advertising implies that ALL is exclusive at Sandals I found that not to be the case. On day 2 we had the spa ladies approach us, as we were enjoying our time, and talk about some personal therapy. I was not interested but between the girls and my husband I agreed to a manicure. I hate that stuff but ok. When I got the $ 50.00 bill I was pissed!! When I questioned it nobody ever explained. And I bet it's in USD funds too! I enjoy local vendors on sight but was once again disturbed at the prices and the labels on the clothing were not local. The dresses I saw on sale poolside were 7 times more expensive than what I have purchased at other high end resorts. As Canadian funds do not seem to get respect as real currency I was disappointed that no funds conversion was done at front desk. Never seen this before and it did effect our tipping out for staff unfortunately. BUT these issues did not effect our enjoyment level at all!! I think the grounds were incredible, the room choices, no matter where they were, offered a unique view. Kane, who stopped by regularily, was a great source of information, whether it was daily maintenance updates or lugging our baggage about. Very nice young man. So thank you to Sandals Halcyon and staff for a great time!

Anse Chastanet: Perfect Traditional Carib Colonial Resort
Staff go above and beyond to make you feel as part of their family. The cuisine and choices for dining are amazing, delicious. The beach is so lovely you dont miss not having a pool, which is why I didnt give it 5 star, however there are pools at Jade Mountain, which is part of the Anse Chastanet Resort. We booked Beach Deluxe which has Air Conditioning. The Mountain side rooms and Jade Mountain are open air and do not have air conditioning. All rooms are beautfully appointed with fridges and pr[... read more]ovisions. My room rating is tempered by the "haute" tastes some have these days but for me it was 5 Star! This is my third visit to St.Lucia and the Anse Chastanet experience has captured my heart.
That being said, try to avoid Air Canada Vacations - they are horrible and have no representation here on the island if you need to change or speak to someone. I was on hold for two days for over 35 minutes each time with transfers to 3 different people. West Jet also flies and I'd suggest you forgo the "The Air Canada Arrogance" - pc2

Secrets St. Lucia Resort and Spa: Disappointed
Saint Lucia is a beautiful place to visit but st. James Morgan Bay resort was very disappointing. It's an all inclusive resort however they give you a fridge in your room but have nothing in it. If you want to fill it they charge you extra ( even water). The majority of the staff was terrible. You have to wait to be seated at the restaurants (even the buffet) and they serve you drinks but you have to wait forever for anything. You can ask for a drink and by the time you finish your meal you migh[... read more]t get your drink and the worst part is they won't let you get up to get your own drink! I would have been happy to grab myself a soda but they just say to ask your waiter and won't give you anything from the restaurant bar. Ordering at the bar outside the restaurant can take a long time too. They stop serving all food by 10pm and the bars close at 12am so if you like to stay up late then there are problems. Or even if you want a snack when you've been drinking by the bar. I really don't have much to say that is nice about this resort. I heard people rave about the food before I booked this and the food was terrible ( except the food you had to pay extra for). There entertainment was just some people singing on a small stage; nothing entertaining about it. The beach party on Wednesday was the best part however they didn't have enough seats for everyone and it was the only place open to eat that night. Also we spent 2-3 hours that night deal with our door locked that randomly stopped working. The whole door lock had to be replaced. While I did enjoy the excursions and seeing the island, I absolutely hated this resort and would never go back. Spend the extra money and go to a sandals or something better.

Sandals Regency La Toc Golf Resort and Spa: Underwhelmed
While the beach was wonderful, the setting gorgeous and the room lovely, the service was less then stellar and food just okay. Really disappointed in the service, it was slow, often our drinks were forgotten or came after our meal was complete, room service took almost an hour each time for breakfast and we rarely saw our butlers, some days we never even saw them at all. Way overpriced for the level of service.

-no towel cards
-ice cream truck roaming the resort
-local carribean food always available
-food and drinks always available
-entertainment every night, no audience participation required!
-the beach party was fabulous, the food was great and the restaurants were open for seating so we didn't have to eat in the sand

Rex Papillon: Loved this resort!
We loved the smaller size of the resort, it was easy to get around. The staff were great, helpful and very friendly. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable, the shower stall in our room (500 block) was a little tight. we had no issues getting clean towels in our room. The night-life was low key but they had something every night. If you are looking for a big productions or late nights of partying this would not be the place for you, but you can walk to bars out side the resort tha[... read more]t might suffice. We went to Friday night jump up, which keeps going into the early hours.
We had no issues finding loungers around the pool or on the beach at any time. They have 2 a la carte resturants, we loved the oriental one, the Italian was ok. But we also liked the buffet, the food was tasty we always found something we liked to eat, the deserts were a bit limited.
You can venture off the resort in safety and you can easly walk into town, shop and restaurants. People in town were friendly as well.
The beach is beautiful , we found great snorkling at the end of the beach by Marie's fish shack. (food was awesome there, definitely worth trying)
We would definitely return to the Papillon Rex in St. Lucia, over all great holiday!!!

Bay Gardens Hotel: Pleasant hotel with nearby shopping
Hotel grounds are well kept. It is an oasis in the busy town. There are 3 pools and they are generally uncrowded. More umbrellas are needed as shade is minimal.
Included breakfast was very good. Reduit Beach is a 15-20 minute walk. Shuttle available but does not start until 9:30 am. Best to get to beach early as it becomes very crowded when cruise ships are in Castries.
