Las Brisas Huatulco: Beautifully Unique

This resort was built into the side of a hill. The vegetation around made for a stunning setting. The bays provided excellent swimming and snorkelling opportunities. Breakfast at the Mexican Restaurant was enhanced by the beautiful mountain views. Carts ran regularly making it easier to get from the rooms to the main areas. There are still many stairs to get to lobby, restaurants, pool and beach. The a la cartes we had were very good and the buffets had a variety of options. Beach service and dr [... read more]inks were good although bars didn’t open until 11:00am. The resort is meticulously clean and the washrooms are immaculate. Staff work very hard and are friendly. This is a beautiful resort with a unique landscape and is a perfect place to relax.

Hyatt Zilara Cancun: Perfect but

Location was great as was food in all locations. Pool was heated and large.Loved the coffee shop and all the staff.I loved everything but the resort needed 1or 2 more washrooms and because I have mobility problems perhaps a carpet on the beach. The place was full of warm friendly staff.

Occidental Cozumel: Worst hotel ever

Should be shut down had no water guests were extremely sick Staff was rude and not helpful we left after one night and booked with another hotel. At our own cost it is very dated and we had to get water from the pool to flush the toilet

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: Great resort

Nice place and I would definitely go back just I felt the staff was not that friendly but still good 👍. The food was good but the Japaneses and French restaurants do not want to serve lots of people so you got to go early.

Melia Puerto Vallarta: Great Family Resort!

A bit aged, but the grounds are impressive, huge pool area, friendly service and activity staff, nice beach area. We had 2 separate leaks in our room during our stay (fixed) and there are only 2 outlets in the room, not ideal.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Still okay for trip 7

This was our 7th trip to this resort in the past 19 years and we stayed two weeks. Sunwing no longer has a rep there so you are on your own to get information. There have been a few changes even since our last trip there about 4 years ago. The beach club was sold and Decameron purchased two hotels a little further down the beach towards town. They also replaced the garden with a very large grass roof structure for bus reception and combined Cocos 2&5 bar and restaurant. Employees seem ne [... read more]w and not as happy as on previous trips. Wait staff in the dinning room were fairly good at snatching dirty plates but failed at coffee, tea and water refills. Room cleaners did their job well. Towel supply was a bit spotty as we were shorted towels a couple of times. Food quality at this hotel over the years has generally increased with every visit. It was disappointing to me to see that this time the quality has gone back to fewer choices and cheaper cuts of meat. We did okay with the usual rice and beans stuff but there wasn't much for variety this round. The tortilla soup, my favorite, was never on the buffet. The a-la-cart was okay but booking it was a nightmare. The booking system would NEVER let you book. We had to complain to the manager who "squeezed" us in to get there. Covid measures during our time there were almost not existent. Saw signs but they were ignored. Food prep wore masks as expected but very few others. Enjoyed the sunshine as the weather was perfect as usual.

Grand Palladium Vallarta: Great time - will come again.

This will be our 6th time visiting. They hotel has made some really great improvements in terms of getting their hotel updated. I'm happy there's no smoking on the resort as it was a problem back then. Staff is always friendly and hardworking. I wish they didn't have to push the Paladium Travel Club so much. That was the only drawback, but they do it every time so it wasn't a surprise. I found that most of the agents weren't so pushy this year, so that was nice. Planet Hollywood Cancun by Royalton: Very Family Friendly

If you are looking for a resort that checks all the boxes, this could be the one for you. The kids pool and amenities are great, with lots of activities to do. This is a Marriot 5* resort, but lower your expectations from other Marriot locations. The attention to details is lacking, such as hair found in the drawers in the dresser, air conditioner not working at check in, bathroom door handle falling off in hand, stale food at the buffet, bland drinks, staff's ability to adjust to the changing m [... read more]oments is very slow, scheduled event last min changes, broken pool chairs still in play, broken glass on pathway for over 24 hrs, and overall condition of the resort needing some attention. All in all, it was a great family vacation. Restaurants were generally decent with good service, if you go early. (not star class) Speaking of Star Class, there was a very distinct division between the two. So if it's important to have 'extras' to feel like more of a vacation, I would definitely say that you need to upgrade at this resort.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Most good

2 week vacation in March 2023. Was there in 2020 just before pandemic. Flew Sunwing. New Max8 737 but has no on-plane wifi or entertainment. Bring your own. Beach in front of Los Cocos almost non-existent now (NOT like in the picture) but the rest of the 2 mile long beach is still very nice. It was wonderful that you can use La Marina/ Isla Coral for food/ drink & beach chairs. This was our deciding factor on going here again. 1-1/2 to 2 hour bus ride to resort (yuck). Use [... read more] the airport bathroom and buy any refreshments from Oxxo in the airport parking lot before leaving. Check-in can be slow depending on how many others were on your bus. English rare at the front desk all the time, but the employees try. Building 4 has lots of steps, far from the beach and not all rooms have view of beach from balcony Busy roadway on backside, but overall quiet compared to many complaints heard from lower units and La Marina/ Isla Coral resorts. Large rooms. Outdated lock & key system and may want to bring a powerbar if you need extra plugins. Food & drink - Enough variety provided between the 3 resorts. La Bamba at building 4 not open for breakfast anymore (too bad). Not impressed with the a la cart's and only used once. Liquor lineups not bad and no complaints on brands or watering down. Beach & activities. Quiet enough weekdays with more sellers than beachgoers. Weekends very busy with 1,000's of locals. Entertaining, but very noisy, even at the resorts. Get your beach chair early. Everyone ignores new no-smoking law. Guayabitos/ La Peneda - Nice walk along one main street but like most areas, watch your step on uneven and holey sidewalks. Most garbage bins overflowing and could benefit with a pickup more than once a year. Large market in La Peneda on Thursdays with venders selling both old and new. Really enjoyed it but a long walk to get there. Monday market at Guayabitos is small with very few deals found. Always felt very safe. I had an issue with swelling bug bites and Kenia helped me find Benadryl at a local pharmacy. Nobody else I encountered had any bites. Very strange. Checkout & Airport. Checkout okay. Bus ride okay. Daytime this trip. Outside Puerto Vallarta is a dumping ground. Stock up on food & snacks even the night before departure. Airport pricing is stupid - 300 pesos for a burger. No water bottle filling and buying a bottle starts at 190 pesos. Overall value - This was best price found over all others for this time period and we knew the beach was very nice. Recommend only if budget is the deciding factor. Will I go there again? Doubt it.

Kore Tulum Retreat Wellness Resort: Awesome!

Great resort, not too busy, can easily get around. Great location and free bike rentals allowed us to explore a lot (ruins, beach clubs, cenotes, etc). All staff was amazing (pool bar tender was grumpy but you can’t win ‘em all!) breakfast and lunch menus were the same everyday but there were lots of choices so we ended up trying almost everything throughout the week and it was delicious. Started getting busier towards the last couple days of our stay due to spring break but that’s to be expected. Dinners were different every day and delicious. Would recommend!

Krystal Grand Los Cabos: Cheap and Not so great

The hotel was a 2 star at best. The rooms size were ok but still not in good condition and the beds / beddings and pillows were terrible. Stains on the sheets - disgusting. Felt like a cheap motel just sad. Did not feel relaxed or clean enough. Cleanliness was definitely a problem as soon as I was given my room I had to change to another then another. There was hair in my soap box which leads me to believe that they just reuse the soaps from old guest to new. There was hair on the “made up be [... read more]d” which leads me to believe they did not wash and give me a fresh room and hair on toilet and washroom floor. Gross. Did not feel sanitary whatsoever. Mold in my sisters room on the walls and in bathroom. Rooms were not cleaned on the daily. Had one shower towel to use for 2 people had to call for extras, for hand towel and floor towels, felt this hotel had no standards at times. It’s unfortunate. The staff were kind and helpful but thats it. food was basic and not tasty at all, below basic normal restaurant standards. Buffet too small too cramped and very limited selection and just did not feel clean all around. The only okay thing about this place were the staff and the beach/ocean. Would never go here ever again.

Grand Sunset Princess: This resort is a gem!

This was our second time visiting. The grounds are beautiful with so much to discover as you take a leisurely morning walk along the walkways lined with huge palm trees and beautiful shrubs and flowers. The beach took a hit from storms I think but it’s better than I remember it. The slope is more gradual and no rocks at all. We even saw a deer one morning. The only concern was the Koties were very friendly, and would like to visit all the ground floor decks in our area because one of the guests kept feeding them. Not a good idea! Staff were very friendly. The food was good especially at the restaurants. Hand sanitizers were available at all entrances and exits to the dining areas and lobbies. Some staff wore mask in the dining areas or bars but not all. I felt safe from Covid because of the way the main lobby and entertainment area is open to the air with a roof covering most of it. You are basically outside 95% of the time unless you are shopping in the many shops available or dining in. I have to say I did not hear any coughing on this trip at all! What a pleasant surprise.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Great Resort in a wonderful Country, I have been 6+ times

The resort is one of the best I have ever visited, and I am comparing this to over 10 or so. The beach is good, managed to get some snorkelling in a find the right amount of shade. The rooms are top notch and the contents of the mini fridge are replaced daily. The entertainment was good to great (Circus, Michael Jackson, and the Magic Show), in that order. I thought the Kareoke show would be pointless, so I stayed away. The food in the main buffet was average to good, some dishes were next level [... read more] like the chipotle beef. The bus between buildings comes regularily and is useful if you are tired, but walking is also doable. As a total score out of 5, I would give it a 4 and would return some time. I also think the resort is very well run.

Occidental Cozumel: SICKNESS AND MISERY FOR ALL

I will not spend a moment on the quality of food or service and go right to the illness that spread through the entire resort. Hardly anybody was spared the misery of violent vomiting and diarrhea almost from day 1. The first day the AC did not work. When it was finally fixed it only went to 25 degrees Celsius and rattled. The room was damp and smelled like mold all the time. The next day the vomiting started for everybody in our group. We spent 36 hours straight in bed trying to beat th [... read more]is illness. After 36 hours we left our room but the diarrhea kicked in. I could not find anybody at the resort that wasn’t either currently sick or had just started feeling better. Almost EVERYBODY at the resort got sick. We lived on toast and bananas for 4 days. Nobody wears gloves to handle food but they do wear hairnets. Pretty sure nobody gets sick for a week or two when they find a hair in their food. Very poor hygiene and food safety standards. During the height of the sickness the WATER TO THE ENTIRE RESORT WAS TURNED OFF!!! We were told that it was for maintenance and it would be back on in 20 or 30 minutes. It was off for over 24 hours! We could not flush the toilets. This included the public washrooms. Its bad enough to be sick, now imagine not flushing the toilets OR washing your hands. Dozens of people including myself filled trash cans with pool water to flush toilets all night. Contestants on Survivor had more sanitary living conditions than we did. In the morning there was an angry mob yelling at the assistant manager. The manager was never to be seen. People talked about "Walter" but nobody saw the man. He hid like a coward while his staff got yelled at. Shame on you Walter! The assistant manager told everybody that if we didn't like it at the Occidental we could pack our bags and leave. He said "nobody in making you stay". There are dozens of reviews just like mine on several sites describing the same situation. The management responded to those reviews by saying that this time of year there is "a little gastroenteritis on the island". These guys lie so often it has become effortless. Some of the reps that sold excursions told us this happens all the time and Occidental covers it up so nobody knows. This place needs to stop making excuses, shut down for a few weeks and find the root cause of this illness. As of this evening my wife feels better but my symptoms persist. I have lost 11 pounds since the trip began. I went to the doctor today and he sent my samples away to determine if I got a virus, bacteria, or a parasite. Perhaps a combination of all three. We will know in about 3 days.

Grand Sunset Princess: Princess Sunset

Fantastic resort, the grounds, room, a la Carte restaurants were top notch. The only negative thing was the stinky seaweed at the ocean beach which the grounds crew did their best to clean-up on a daily basis.

Palacio Mundo Imperial: Disappointing resort

Website photos are misleading as they show a beach at the Palacio. The only way to get to a beach is to take a bus that shuttles you there. The website for Palacio also states that there are eight restaurants on site. However, only one or two are open at any time for meals. Room was dirty and facing a very busy, noisy road

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Average Resort

Returned a week ago from the Barcelo Maya Caribe. It is a no frills resort with the beach and pool being the best factors. We went to 2 al a cartes and wouldn't bother if we'd had known it was just mediocre. Didn't even go to the other 2 that we had reservations for. The buffet is really good, something for everyone. I really love dessert but can pass those little cakes up easily. Dessert was disappointing. The rooms - very blah. No frills whatever. They do supply shampoo conditioner and lotion. The hall outside the rooms are VERY DARK and unappealing. Definately need some nice lighting and some sort of decor as there is ZERO decor, inside the halls and outside the actual buildings. When we arrived at the resort in the bus, it was so blah and disappointing, just a big building, no decor or flowers whatsoever. No excitement to finally get there. We were apprehensive about the place. The checkin was fine, the lobby, again blah, no flowers, nothing even on the checkin counter, NOTHING. Only 4 of us checking in and the young man checking us in talked so fast and rushed like he was really busy. We couldn't understand him, didn't know if he was talking english or spanish! Again, no decor other than some metal spanish metal statues in the lobby. They didn't appeal to me at all . The room didn't have any towel art, no candies on the pillows, nothing, no frills. I only seen 1 miriachi singing group during the whole week, at the mexican a la carte. Why not have them around the whole resort each day?! They really add to the Mexican feel of a place. Should always be at the buffets. I didn't see any drink servers at the beach or the pool. Had to get your own. No frills. No little snack stands right at the pool, like I ALWAYS see at other resorts. Seen lots of fish at the pier. That was really nice. The theater - was good on 3 nights -- Michael Jackson, Il Divo and the Magic Show were good. But the kareoke, the men vs. ladies were bad. Don't recommend. But they really should turn ON the lights after the shows. I actually tripped on the side of some stairs (there are stairs all over), and I fell right down. (Not a drinker). Lighting is very poor. They should also have little golf carts to drive customers around as there's lots of walking. One of the 4 of our group rented an electric scooter for about $100/day to get around. The bartenders all seemed unhappy. This really sounds negative, but the beach and the pools made it worthwhile for us, that's what we went for. It was average but at a higher cost. I would recommend if you are happy being at the beach and pools and fine with buffets, but the resort is very MEDIOCRE, again NO FRILLS THERE!!! Just my opinion.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Fabulous week away

We loved everything about the barcelo maya tropical. The beach was beautiful, pools were great, friendly staff (front desk, housekeeping, bars, buffets, restaurants). The food was very good and there was no issue getting restaurant reservations at decent eating times. There was never an issue getting beach chairs either at the pool or beach. Lots to do if you wanted - overall, a great week away

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun: Wonderful resort

My family was there from March 18-25. Resort: it's beautiful. Hotel was great. Service was great. They supplied your small fridge everyday with pop, beer and water. Bottled water was always available around the resort. Staff was there to serve you when needed. Staff puts out towels on the chairs for you. The Vibe team were amazing with daily activities. The kids club was good ( ages 4-12) and accommodating at times. Staff cleaning was good. They did use precautions in dealing with serving food  [... read more]both in buffet and A la Carte restaurants. Pools: were amazing. Activities during the day for kids and adults. Only if you were DC then you had your own pool area. We did an excursion to Isle Mujeres on a luxury boat. Great trip for the day. Negative: the traffic from airport to resorts are dreadful. They are making the roads bigger but except longer delays to get anywhere. It's a good family resort. It's clean . Staff is friendly Negative: the beach on that whole coastline- not good. Seaweed is bad. The workers are there everyday trying their best to clean and rake up the seaweed that finds its way to the shoreline. People have not been swimming in the ocean which is to bad. I would recommend this resort to families with kids. My kids were 12 and 15. They enjoyed themselves especially water volleyball

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: Our Return to Mexico...Amazing

Beautiful Resort, grounds were clean and stunning. Our room was clean and we never wanted for anything. This was by far one of the best resorts we have been to. From entertainment to food, pools and beach we were impressed. Thank you for having us.
