Melia Peninsula Varadero: Good resort

The resort was ok the beach amazing the rooms good and big The beds and pillow very comfortable. The food was ok cuban standers. Sometimes they were just missing somethings. They only had hamburger buns the first day I was there .they only had fries in the snack bar ,two days there is no sliced bread for breakfast in the morning ,and only my last day I saw yogurts. Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: very nice resort

Nice property, lovely grounds,QUIET which was nice, beach is great but typical problem not enough chairs, usual complaints about Cuban food, all staff were great.would recommend this resort to friends an family

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Great getaway

The grounds at the hotel were very well kept and maintained. Very clean inside and out. We really enjoyed our al la cartel meals. The Japanese was entertaining and the French was very tasty. The main buffet got a little boring, but we always found something. The beach and pool area was well maintained and never crowded. Our room was getting dated and our building outside lights at night were never repaired. It was very dark at night and I mentioned this problem as a safety concern 3 times. Sol Palmeras: Awesome week

The resort was wonderful and met all our expectations...a four star. The staff were 5 star!! The standard room was okay. .beds were a bit hard. The bungalows close to pool area looked nice. Food was excellent for Cuba with lots of variety and attention to food safety. Beach beautiful. Resort had shuttle to shopping plaza. 15 minutes by bus to Varadero. Only complaint was buffet dinner was very noisy...could do outdoor dining for breakfast and lunch. Would recommend.

Palma Real: Bad resort

Should have taken into account these poor only reviews before booking...We chose it because it was the cheaêst 3* at that time. Should be 1* hotel. Not worth. Never been in such a lousy hotel since I started to go to Cuba 20 years ago. Does not represent Cuban Turism or Cuba.I usually tip but this time not even once. Grounds: sad, mostly concrete. Not enough space for such a big hotel Bedroom: ugly really stains everywhere missing piece of furniture and small!! Though bedroom was clean and no cucarachas or insects. One poor light for the whole bedroom and in order to have air condition I discovered we have to use the breaker No option for A/C just super col or no AC. After complaining a lot they supply a functional fridge. Only one bottle of water for the whole week for 2 people!!! You have to buy them at the depanneur inside the hotel Service: low quality, the maid for our bedroom was kind of rud and needless. So we asked her to stop coming in our room which was not a big deal since she was just placing our bed. Tip : bring your own bathroom towels they only give 2 tiny ones per bedroom!!! Beach: could add some palapas not enough. Really hard to relax when you are surrounded by russian music drunk russians and smokin like hell Food: cuba's quality so no surprise. But I really did not like when cuban were fighting and grabing food at the buffet as if there was a war. Healthy but poorly educated and arrogant for sure. Solution: to go out to some restaurants outside the resort plenty of choice. Snack bar was running out of lunch food at 12h30!!!...Only one little coffee machine at one lobby bar. Anyway will not go back there, neither to Varadero.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Great Vacation. Destination

I had brought a first timer toCuba with me on this particular trip and we stayed at this hotel and the results were very positive.The grounds , pool and beach area are pristine and the staff are very accommodating to say the least.The rooms are dated , but were clean and comfortable and the view was spectacular.It is a sprawling resort a joined to another which is accessible as well.Plenty of things to do if you want to and certainly enough quiet private space to just enjoy the climate etc.

Melia Las Antillas: Beautiful Resort although the rooms need updating

We, my sister and I just returned from a week at the Melia Las Antaillas. We have both been to Cuba 20+ times are we are very familiar with what to expect in Cuba. We Love Cuba! The property is absolutely beautiful and the staff for the most part are amazing. First the cons.... A couple of issues; first when we arrived my sister was feeling very ill and we asked for a room sooner than 3:00 (we arrived at 12:00 noon). Apparently, that was impossible which is difficult to believe based on [... read more] the size of the resort and the number of people we saw there. There are no coffee makers in the rooms as advertised. There is an electric kettle, that's it. We were very disappointed as you have to go to the main lobby anytime before 9:00 am to get coffee which can be a bit of a hike. they could easily set up a coffee station in the pool restaurant as staff are there long before nine setting up. Also Sunwing tell you the bus ride is 25 minutes when in fact it took us an hour and forty minutes to actually get to the hotel. We had to stop at every downtown hotel first. We opted not to go to Cayo Santa Maria this time because of the bus ride. We were very surprised and disappointed to discover the length of time you spend on the bus is actually longer than the Cayo Santa Maria trip. We took a cab to the airport on the way back and yes, we were there in 35 minutes. When I mentioned this to the Sunwing rep she got quite defensive saying, well, we have 65 resorts on Varadero. I understand this I was just pointing out that the information in their package was incorrect. The first room we were assigned had a very strong chemical odour. We emailed in advance of our arrival, both the resort and the Melia head office to express our concerns about cigarette and other odours in the room as my sister is very sensitive. We were promised this would be taken into consideration and we would be taken care of. This was not the case. I was shown three other rooms and all of them had the same strong chemical odour. I spoke with several other people who experienced the same issues and moved rooms several times before they found one they could tolerate. We wound up staying in the first room with the air on full blast to dissipate the smell.the patio door was almost impossible to open and close. The rooms need some updating, the lighting in the sink area is dim at best, the tub is rusty and the grout needs replacing. All that being said we didn't let any of these issues ruin our vacation. I understand they are upgrading the rooms but none of the three I looked at were upgraded. A new health bar was completely constructed and opened while we were there but personally, I think the rooms should be upgraded first before adding additional venues. We tried the specialty restaurants and only had an issue with one, Don Peperone. At Don Peperone the sparkling wine is an extra charge even though it is free everywhere else on the property including at the buffet! The service was beyond slow and we wound up leaving after 20 minutes without even being offered a glass of wine. I take exception to the lobster being an extra charge everywhere on this resort as many of the 4 and 5 star resorts we have stayed at in Cuba include lobster at no additional charge! $20.00 Canadian no less. The Pros... The beautiful property. The amazing staff. The best beach in Cuba. Great food. Great drinks. Direct Flight.Super Clean. Beautiful weather, etc. Would we go back. If you asked us on the first day the answer would have been no. But, having spent the week we have changed our opinion and would definitely go back. Next time we will pack a coffee maker and coffee and we will take a cab from and to the airport!

Melia Las Antillas: very nice people

the grounds were well kept. the cleanliness of rooms was satisfactory meals were a little less than satisfactory buffet was very similar lunch and dinner every day. breakfasts were good. difficult to get a hot cup of coffee, we gave up and had tea. cream for coffee would be a welcome change the sunwing rep was useless, on the two occasions we asked for help no language problems beach and pool were beautiful hotel staff very friendly and helpful

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Iberostar was average

Hotel was very nice but there were several lights that did not work in our room, we were on the ground floor and the sliding door to the balcony did not have a lock (no one would fix it until the next day), every single sheet and pillow was stained, we constantly asked for water to be brought to the room because that was the only way to get it but it never showed up. There were not enough pool or beach loungers for everyone so if you did not get up before 7 to claim one you did not get to hang b [... read more]y the pool. Lots of little things that made this trip not worth the $$!

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Hotel Iberostar Playa Alameda

This is a smaller resort that we enjoyed going to. As for all Cuban resorts, the food was a 7 out of 10. Do not expect for the snack bar to have much of what they list in their menu. (no pizza at all during our stay). As for cleanliness, this is one of the best we had ever had.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Pretty Good Value for the Money

We did enjoy ourselves very much at this resort and thought the food was excellent. As I would suggest to anybody, stay away from anything fried or that you can visibly see oil on and you will be ok. We had lobster, crab, sushi, swordfish and other great items during the week from the buffet. This is not something you will see at most resorts this price. We had a king size bed in our room and it was comfortable compared to most resorts. The room was average and clean but not exceptional. The sta [... read more]ff were nice but a bit slow at the bars, could use a bit more staff there. The grounds and beach are very nice with a good amount of loungers. One items that needs improvement is the public washrooms which are very smelly and require more cleaning. The towel policy is something to pay attention to, the staff will pick up your towel and you will have to pay $15 CUC for it, ours were taken from our bag along with our sunglasses on the beach and we still had to pay. Suggest you take your own beach towels and give theirs back as soon as you check in. Who steals towels? Seems like a scam to me and it did anger me that they have no interest that you were robbed they just want the money!

Club Tropical: Great week at Hotel tropical

My friend and I just returned from a great week here . The room was clean and plenty of hot water and water pressure . We booked a superior room and I highly recommend that as the basic rooms were dark and dreary. The food was good and we had no issues with not having enough choices . The staff were amazing ! will I return ? Yes tomorrow , if I could but certainly next year .

Punta Peninsula Varadero: The worse resort I ever stay in my life

It is worse experience I ever have in my life during travel. My phone has been stole by massage lady. They never give me back. And I call police. The police never show up at end of my trip. I have to ask my mini bar replace everyday 3 times to get my water. I mean everyday until last day I left. And cusmerser service was said. I am not sure if you lied or the person who replace mini bar lie that she had replace mini bar. I paid $1300 to lie about $2 water ? Use your mind. And they promise me wat [... read more]er will be there but never. After all I will never trust that resort. After my phone been stole. They ask my sign some form but I said no to them. Then they said. You can not prove if you have phone. Maybe you just lie about it.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Great Resort

The Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero was wonderful. Worth the extra money to stay at this adults only section. Well taken care of by staff, service was great and food was good. Grounds were beautiful and well maintained, pool was clean and beach was awesome. Beach towel service was convenient. Great bar service and drinks. Room was a little tired and needed some TLC (patio door old and didn't latch, shower didn't drain properly, toilet ran but was fixed promptly on request). Was happy with r [... read more]oom cleaning and AC was reliable. This was my first trip to Cuba and Veradero did not dissappoint. Never seen a better beach. Was there last week of February and sunny everyday and not a drop of rain! Great value for the money.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Beautiful place

Everything was great: clean, well maintained, good food, good evening shows, good restaurants. Diamond Club is worth every penny. Beach is perfect. Rooms are comfortable with great balcony. Will definitely return.

Hotel Los Cactus: Amazing holiday

Our room was located in the junior suites, and we did have a suite (1 and a half bathrooms, living room, king size bed, mini fridge, coffeemaker with coffee and bottled water supplied, huge patio with table/chairs, loungers), being in this building we had no issue with noise even with the disco also being located there....grounds were well kept and clean, gym equipment seemed to be up to date, tennis courts, basketball court, always able to find seats at the pool or at 1 of the 7 hot tubs, [... read more] staff were friendly and helpful, no shortage of food and steak that you could cut with a fork..and best for last, the beach, just amazing..very clean and again no shortage of loungers...this being my first time at Los Cactus I was a little worried after reading some reviews, but seeing it for myself, I am already looking forward to returning.....

Club Kawama: Nice place but bad ending

This is and good hotel with a nice amenities and services, but the responsible for the group (Hola sun) was available only for the first short meeting and last day we were waiting for the bus to return to the airport. It was supposed that the bus will pick up us at 5:10 (according to their information), we were at that time 5:10 (as the employees in reception can testify) but nobody pick up us., The stress was awful. We try to contact the responsible but was not easy, 3 times we talked [... read more] to different people of Hola sun but not solutions. In panic, we had to take a taxi and pay 35 Convertibles Cuban pesos to arrive to the airport. We almost lost the fly. we were the last two passengers to be registered, they gave us separate places in the plane. How come the responsible can forget two tourist in the hotel and never ask for them? I will recommend the hotel but not the Hola-sun company.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Resort needs a make over , beautiful beach

Resort needs a make over , pools and beach are phenomenal, food was terrible, they kept running out of cups at bars , and plates at cafeteria. Resort staff were great ,very friendly, the first room we got was covered in bugs and smelled really musky, asked for another room on second floor it was better, beach chairs were mostly all broken if you could find one

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Beautiful resort!

Clean rooms, fabulous nightly entertainment, good food. This was our second time at El Patriarca and we look forward to going back again next year. We have no complaints about this resort. The three restaurants were all very good as well.

Melia Las Americas: Relaxing vacation

The Melia Las Americas is a beautiful resort with an amazing beach and lots of palapas and pool areas to choose from. The food was good and there was plenty to choose from at the buffet and a la cartes. The resort caters to an older crowd and is fairly quiet by 1030 or so but after a long day in the sun and enjoying the Cuban rum that was fine with us! The rooms we had in the main hotel were dated but clean. We will definately be back!
