Hotel Playa Paraiso: Great place to stay!!

Not knowing what to expect,we were pleasantly surprised at how nice this resort is.The staff were so helpful and friendly,showing how proud they are to work there.The beach is incredible.The rooms were very clean and certainly no complaint about the food.The variety is such that you can always find something to eat.

Melia Costa Rey: Spectacular views

Everything was outstanding food, rooms were large, service from staff was great. Beach was long and wide lots of chairs at both beach and pool no real need to save a spot unless you wanted shade by the beach.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Nice resort!

This resort was a blast !! to start off the food was amazing, and service at the buffet was exceptionally great. The staff especially Yanietsy made great effort to keep the customers happy. The rooms where large in size and the atmosphere was great. A couple of days we didn't have hot running water but seeing as we where sun burnt we didn't have any need for hot water :) the beach was very big and wide and had an abundance of beach chairs.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Get it cheap and lower your expectations.

Crowded and very basic with a beautiful beach. Read the reviews to be prepared to make up for short falls and you might like your stay. This is not a luxury resort. If you have anything close to luxury taste you'll be disappointed. There are no plush beds, heavenly pillows or attentive service here. You'll need to adapt bring things and be prepared to be very assertive to enjoy your stay. They often run out of beach towels, they need to be asked repeatedly for the bottled drinking water and fo [... read more]r adequate housekeeping. Keep in mind all inclusive does not include any snacks, typical salads or what I call drinks. Bring lots of sunscreen and bug spray! They do not stock these items and there are no drugstores anywhere close. The pillows were awful rock hard so pack at least one. To be sure you are prepared bring at least a couple of your own beach towels for days they won't have them for you and so you can claim a lounger very early in the morning at the pool or beach. If you show up midmorning you'll be out of luck. They do not have Coke or Pepsi and no kind of diet pop of any kind. When I asked for a margarita they used drink crystals and most people seemed to be drinking things like beer or basics like rum and "cola". No where did I see standard appetizers or even convience snacks like chips or crackers, dips or chocolate bars. Finally if your a smoker this is a paradise. They did not allow smoking inside but people smoked at outside bars, eating area patios, poolside and even while in the pools!

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Amazing resort

We had a two week stay at the Pestana. The beach is amazing at this resort, workers are very helpful and friendly. Room was great, we had a suite with separate bedroom and sitting area. Plenty of hot water. Food was also great, lots of variety and plentiful. Only downfall would be there is not enough shade for everyone, so you had to be up by 6 to get a palapa. Great deal for your money,

Melia Costa Rey: Fabulous!!

This hotel is now our " return to" place in Cayo Coco. From check in to departure we were attended to by courteous staff. The resort is new, but has that typical Cuban hospitality. Spacious rooms beautiful bathrooms, balcony with table and chairs, and small table and chairs in room, lounging couch, iron and board, hangers in large closets, with house coats, bar fridge always full of water ,pop and beer,. The theatre is beautiful , comfortable chairs and VERY good bar. Pools are super BUT the beach is unbelievable!! Lots of huts and chairs, Caribbean water 27c , beach bar, sailboats,paddle boats, . Very impressed with this resort, just the right size , easy access to everything. The best for last- the amazing Cuban people who make you feel sooo welcome.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: M for mediocre

Recently spent 7 nights at this hotel which was recently purchased by Portuguese and is quite nice with potential improvements re management of buffet ( mass feedings, tables not available, noisy) of pool area( lounges being tagged as mine by placing a towel or shoe on top from 7 am until when people decide to return- maybe a chair on beach as well) of beach area ( no beach chairs because some people double up on chairs by places one set in the mangroves which are shaded and the other set in the [... read more] sun) of the beach towels( they ran out). Overall the food was good, something for everyone. Staff pleasant and attentive. Entertainment every evening which was varied an enjoyable. Beach great. Only 1 pool. No palms on beach.

Hotel Camino del Mar: everage resort

Not enough shadow Places at the Beach ( Umbrellas) and at the Pool. I had to get up at 6 AM to get a shadow Place. ( Dinning) Fries & Potatos were 90 pro. cold The room was clean, it is an average Resort for Cuba.I have been to Cuba 7 Times.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great Beach, Friendly Staff

Spent a week at Memories Flamenco Beach Resort. Staff always friendly and helpful. Always see staff cleaning. A little surprised when our room had two super single beds. Pools were wonderful and very clean. Lots of resort activities to participate in. Beach was great, lots of sand, kept neat and tidy, great for your morning walk. Hotel Playa Paraiso: Not so great!

This was my family's ( 2 adults/2kids)first visit to Cuba. I came prepared with ketchup, peanut butter and jam expecting the worst case scenario about Cuban food and I was thankful I did ,as well as all the snacks I packed. The food was not the greatest (we are not picky eaters) the meat especially ( felt like it was undercooked, the pork was ok) There was no pasta bar which was disappointing and the pasta they did have prepared was terrible. We survived on bread, French fries, toasted ham and [... read more] cheese sandwiches, veggies and limited fruit . I was thankful none of us were sick. The grounds were clean but nothing special . The rooms were pretty standard and clean. The pool area was nice. The beach was the highlight... beautiful sand and crystal blue water. The entertainment was mediocre .. not much going on. The staff was friendly enough. We brought many gifts to give to the workers which they appreciated. However, I did have a couple of workers ask for specific items... which I didn't appreciate... I mean I understand it's a poor country but we tipped and gave several workers gift bags full of various items. All in all our vacation was ok... it was great to get away but I would not recommend this resort or be a return customer.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Best place in Cuba!!

From start to finish we had an amazing trip! We love this resort. The weather was great the whole week,not a drop of rain. The food was incredible. But what we like most about this resort is its staff! They are so warm and welcoming. It's definitely in need of a few repairs as it's an older place. We hope to go back next year again.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Disapointing at Hotel Colonial

We had been to this resort a couple of times previously. The facility has deteriorated badly. Our room was not too bad, but we had problems with no water for showers and when there was water, the pressure was very low, which made taking a shower a chore. The grounds were not in great shape. Much of the walkaways were very uneven. When coming back from the beach, we could not find any water taps to rinse the sand off our feet. The food was very monotonous. Sometime if there was somethi [... read more]ng different that was a bit more interesting, it hardly ever reappeared again. The 24 hour café was definitely not open 24 hours and we were told that the coffee machine was broken, so if we wanted coffee in the early morning, we were out of luck. The card to enter our room did not function a couple of times and we had to walk back to the main building to have it reset, with no apology for the inconvenience. We were at the far end of the resort, so it was quite a walk, especially coming back from spending a whole day in the sun and heat. The only saving grace was the beautiful weather, ocean and lovely beach. We certainly would never return unless improvements have been made.

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Unique Location!

The location is superb and special. The triangular deltaic space of the resort surrounded by beautiful coral cliffs on shorelines of east and west sides have made it a unique location for those who love feeling of natural surroundings other than the resort facilities. You have then chance of watching both sunshine and sunset. The beach is on west side, different than classical long sand beaches, but specific in look as you can see combinations of sand beach and cliffs. Timber trails are built  [... read more]to access more fine sandy waters. They have overal done a nice job on landscaping of the beach area. There is a nice small Island about 2 to 3 km north of resort that you can go by sailing boats from beach area at $25 PSUS per person including round trip boat, lunch (good shrimps and lubster included) and 4 drinks. Don't miss this, it requires at least 2 to 3 hrs. You would really enjoy walking on the beaches and snorkeling of this Island. The lobby area is very nice, large and modern, bars are excellant, the rooms are clean and relatively large, but like most Cuban hotels, mattresses, pillows and sheets are not so great. Air conditioning and ceiling fans give you good selection of ventilation depending on taste and season. But as resort is relatively new, the plants and trees are still short and the gardens specially on paths between buildings are not so green yet. Staff are welcoming and smiling most of the time. Pool area is well planned, large and clean. The water was very transparent and clean first few days, but was darker last two days. The Japanese restaurant is a good experience; the French restaurant is a nice one to try as well. Overal, you would have a unique experience and recommended to try this resort.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Absolutely Amazing Vacation

We stayed at Pestana Cayo Coco and had a wonderful experience. The grounds were extremely clean and everything was nearby and convenient. Never too much walking to get around. The staff was very friendly and always eager to help with any request we had. The food was good and loved the fact that we had a pizzeria by the beach which was great. The snack bar being open 24 hours as well as the lobby bar was fantastic. We ate dinner at the 3 restaurants which served good food and the presentati [... read more]on was impressive. I would most definitely recommend this resort and plan on travelling back with my children on our next vacation.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Very Relaxing and Clean Resort

Grounds : Beautiful grounds, very clean, and mature gardens. Beach: Very clean !, beautiful beach, to the right on the beach you can walk on virgin beach there are no resorts to the right, so it is a very relaxing beautiful walk, no hassles to buy items, only the random fellow vacationer that you will meet walking - The beach is quite wide so there is lots of space to relax in a lounger without having people walking by your constantly. -The water was calm, and clear, lots of f [... read more]ish and sand bars that you could walk too easily. -Lots of beach loungers so you never had to look for a lounger. - 2 bars directly on the beach, and a pizza place right on the beach ( good pizza) - If you are diamond club they will bring you drinks and they are very attentive in refilling your drink, and very friendly Pool: Beautiful as well, the Foam party is a must.. so much fun :-) - swim up bar, pina colada bar, coffee and ice cream bar, snack bar all round the pool area. - lots of loungers and space around the pool so you are not crowded. Food: Very good for Cuba.. the fried rice was the best, and the al a cartes were fantastic - The buffet was layed out wonderfully, no long lines for food, everything was set up in stations, bread, fruit, desserts, main, pasta and fried rice, very good, the food was always replenished quickly ( always bacon ) - The servers were very prompt to brink drinks, or anything that you requested. - Very clean, especially for a buffet. Staff: Very friendly and helpful ! always very kind ! Very organized, we filled out our check in info on the bus to the resort, so when we arrived they had everything ready,they just had to check us in and give us the room keys. They took our bag directly to our rooms which was great !, and when we had to check out they came and picked up our luggage and took it to the front desk for us. Very good service. Rooms: Very clean, has a renovated room with a king size bed, and a beautiful balcony that over looked the salt water lagoon ( awesome, not smelly). - Electronic safe so you enter in your own code.. no hassle of carrying a safe key. - Air conditioner worked very well, fridge worked well, was restocked daily with water, beer, and pop. - 110 plug ins but be careful they produce alot of power so you can burn out you charger, or hairdryer - Hair dryer in the room Only downside was that there is no door on the bathroom ? wide open to the shower, sink, toilet, and room ? so take note privacy is low. Snack Sports Bar: Very clean, always had French fries ( very good not greasy), and great drinks, open 24 hrs, awesome coffee for early morning risers. Drinks: All very good, and presentation was always great ! not your average resort drinks at all, Lobby bar had the best drinks real pina coladas with coconut and pineapple... yum ! Entertainment: the Dancers and entertainers where amazing ! a very good show every night, if you are into shows. There is no disco or dancing, and most entertainment stopped around 10:00 pm. There is a disco in a cave about 25 mins from the resort that you can go to for 25 CUC.... heard it was okay.. nothing too special.. but fun. Location: 20 mins from the airport... which was wonderful !!!! , it was about 15 mins on the double decker bus to the closest market, average market.. .. not as big as Varadero markets, but very nice. Animals: Also note that there is a pink flamingo named Roberto that is on the resort very friendly, and there are a few cats on the resort that look healthy and are friendly and seem quite happy :-). Did not see any geckos or sun dogs at this resort. We did have one night that the mosquitos where bad, but it was on the beach for a beach supper early evening. This is a great resort to relax and to be pampered, demographics of guest would be 35ish to 70ish.. so it was a mature crowd. Would recommend this resort to anyone who wants to just relax and hit the beach, not so much for anyone who wants to explore or is into night life. Perfect downtime resort :-)

Melia Cayo Coco: Bad Service

We have travelled often to Cuba and love their coffee. We chose a premium lagoon room because it was advertised that room service was available for these rooms. Unfortunately room service is not available before noon and the room only had instant coffee, which was NOT refreshed daily. This was a major disappointment to us as our vision of enjoying morning coffee over the lagoon was not possible, ever, even after offering to pay special fees for the service. Also, front desk service was terr [... read more]ible. It took 40 mins to check out, leaving me 5 mins to grab something to eat before grabbing our bus.

Melia Cayo Coco: Cuban Relaxation

My spouse and I just returned from Melia Caya Coco and as per comments previously mentioned, so far is the best resort in Cuba in my experience. Beach awesome, at times windy, no beach service (once a day) my only complaint. Food in buffet was terrific, all al la cartes good but small portions. Ordering the lobster at the international al la carte was delicious. No night life, everyone sound asleep by 10-11 pm. One night they had the White Show, which was good. Bar in main lobby has no seat [... read more]s, they make you sit down at tables, even when ordering a morning coffee, no communications-we like to sit at a bar and view/mingle, not here. Dinner reservations can be made in advance for al la cartes, make sure you print the confirmation. When i went to confirm at desk they did not have mine I simply showed the email and they honored the requested times, my sister in law had no problems her`s was there for her. Happy Travels

Hotel Camino del Mar: Better than shovelling snow

While this was a quaint resort it definitely showed its age. There were a number of tripping hazards everywhere; even in the pool. Missing/rotted stones, tiles and boards on the walkways, pool deck and boardwalk/wharf. The lining in the pool was warped, buckled and bubbled. The pool deck was dirty with cig. butts , straws and debris. It was finally swept (not hosed down) on the last day of our 7 day vacay. Some had dirty stagnant slimy water while others were partially filled with beach sand blown in by the wind. The bar staff at the swim-up pool bar were very inattentive and not very fun/friendly possibly bec. they seemed to be understaffed. Front desk staff were somewhat abrupt and unapproachable particularily at checkout when we tried to pay for a late checkout of one room on our last day. All other resort staff were amazing- true examples of the famous Cuban warmth and hospitablenous they are known for. Loved that the bus ride from airport to resort was a short 30-35 min. ride as advertised in travel books ( not the B S 3 real minutes = 1 vacay minute) Too many other resorts in the tropics to visit than to revisit one that was not a paradise. Beach was OK but was not cleared of large amount of smelling seaweed that was all over the beach. Not enough chairs and shelter on the beach. Excursion to public (Pilar) beach was fabulous. 10 min ride to that beach BUT at 25 pesos a tad expensive. Much cheaper to go by double decker public tour bus (5 pesos) and you can chose your own time table).

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Awesome resort

For a fairly new resort the grounds was very nice. I can't say enough to justify how friendly the whole staff was, right from the front desk to the cleaning and grounds keeping staff. The food was amazing, with an extra shout out to the Japanese A-La-Carte restaurant the food was delicious and our chef was very entertaining. If I had to say anything negative it would have to be the lack of a beach, but in saying that there is Pilar beach which is just a short 10 minute walk from the resort, and  [... read more]the best part is that while you're there I don't believe that you would feel any safer in your own home. I would recommend this to anyone looking to relax in a friendly environment with good food and drink, I will definitely go back.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Beautiful Quiet Resort

Absolutely amazing quiet resort. Loved the Spanish architecture. It was my second time to Cuba and this time was 100% better than the first. It was my wife's first time in Cuba and she loved it. The buffet breakfast and lunch and dinner are fantastic. We preferred to eat at the buffets or the El Yarey grill for lunch drinks and pizza and fries and chicken. Yes, tips are nice but my wife and I brought baggies filled with feminine products and play dough and bottles of body washes which we handed out to our chamber maid. We also brought a big bag of milk chocolates and handed them out along with tips and they were so happy it was like we handed them gold.
