Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Terrible Resort

This is the second time I have gone to this resort and what a difference 1 1/2 makes. The food was still good in most of the a la carte restaurants except for the Cuban Restaurant. Terrible food there. The service was down right terrible. We paid to be in the Royal Service area with a Swim up room and it was not worth the extra money at all. The butler was supposed to make all our reservations and on 2 occasions we showed up and they said there were none made for us and we couldn't go in.  [... read more]We called for a golf cart to pick us up to take us to Hilltop Restaurant and we waited an hour and then went elsewhere to eat. We went to Miramar and we were practically ignored the whole time and took an hour to get any food The night before we were to leave we ordered room service for dinner and didn't get the food for 3 hours because of some "problem" in the kitchen. This is unacceptable for the price we paid for this vacation. Very disappointed.

Sol Cayo Coco: Great Resort and Fantastic People

This is the second time we've been to Sol Cayo Coco. It won't be the last. Not only does it have the best beach in the area (Pilar isn't any nicer) but the staff at the resort were amazing. Never had to wait any time for a drink and if they were even remotely busy they told you to go ahead and have a seat and they brought your drinks. And they NEVER waited for a tip. Oh my God. It is truly fantastic. There are actually two beaches split by an outcropping of rock. While the one on the right is awesome we chose to spend most of our time on the left hand side. The water is calmer and the sand just that little bit more powdery. Fantastic. The rooms, while a little older, were clean, bright and well taken care of. The food, which is always the true test, was actually good. We even gained a little weight. The calamari at the beach grill was frickin' incredible and we paid the extra to have the logostina which would have been worth it at twice the price. There is a guy that makes fried rice. Yup, fried rice. It was so good I kept going back to him to the point that every time he saw me he fist bumped and stopped asking what I wanted. He'd just make it. He actually got a little emotional when I said we were leaving. I would recommend Sol Cayo Coco to anyone who wants a mid-size resort with good food, a great beach and incredible people.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Nice Resort!

Great staff! It's a very big resort with 2000 people so it's busy! Lots of walking. Beach is beautiful with lots of shells and some sharp coral. Great sand bar to walk out too. On one side of the beach you could walk very far. Met great people from across Canada and England! Lobby was great at night to meet people and chat. We did not starve that's for sure. People complained about line ups for food and drinks but we did not find it too bad. We all got bit by what I assume were mosquitoes( referred to as no-see ums). There were line ups for beach towels for those arriving on a busy day and we heard people had to wait a few days for a beach towel. We did not have that problem. Lots of reserving of lounge chairs at pool and beach and sometimes there were a lack of chairs. We would ask a staff member nicely and they always found us chairs. Room was nice and staff very accommodating when we asked to move to a room close to beach and pool. Resort was clean. Usually there was a shortage of toilet paper and soap in the public ladies rooms. There is a small market very close, a disco, bowling alley and spa. The resort was ok enough but I probably would not go back as we have never gone back to the same resort twice. This was our 7th stay in Cuba.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: The best for Cuba

I am 6th time in Cuba .This is the best for me.Beach is big ,clean ,the people Wonderfull. It is one of the smaller resort that what I liked . The public bathroom was always clean. There was not enough water pressure in room at times,but it was nothing for me to worry. Rooms always very clean and the bar in room always fill in . Paradisus Rio De Oro: Definitely 5Star🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Had a great stay. Rooms well kept and food was way above previous Cuban experience. Beach was nice and clean and the watersports well run. The grounds are well kept and neat and tidy. Seems there were no bugs... maybe they spray for mossies? Staff was polite and friendly.

Melia Varadero: Nice resort!

Everything was great but there is no entertainment at night when everybody are ready to enjoy, during the day was not bad at all. Hotel, rooms, beach were great and I am sure everything else would be better and feel better if the weather was a little bit nicer. I would go back for sure!!!!!

Melia Las Dunas: Big resort, great staff

Clean resort and helpful staff. This property had 2 sections,one for family and one adults only. I found the place much to big for my liking. You notice how many people at dinner time. I knew it was a large property when booking. food was fine, room was comfortable. Beach is lovely but too crowded for my liking, this is an ideal property for families and large groups. I enjoy the Melia properties, but will not be returning to this one.

Melia Marina Varadero: good value, nice people

Appartments rooms outside the hotel are ok, quiet but some things didn't work properly there: the tv had a poor image and the porch screen door was missing, couldn't let fresh air in the room because buggs and mosquitos were waiting to fly in.

Sol Cayo Santa Maria: This could be an excellent resort.

The grounds and the general lay out of this resort is better then most. The staff try their best to provide excellent service and if you like a piano bar this the resort for you. The food is average and the bar service good to very good-the bar in the lobby is the best. The resort is older and has some problems. In our first room the toilet leaked resulting in a wet floor which was not fixed so we were given another room which did not have hot water. The staff tried to fix the problem but were  [... read more]not successful. Our daughter in a room near by experienced no problems with her room. The rooms were always clean as was the resort but most of the public toilets had problems like no seats or locks on the doors. This resort needs upgrading and if this is accomplished we would consider returning. We do not recommend this resort at this time.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Resort is too big

Resort is too big.Therefore understaffed.They run out of supplies.People lining up at buffets in hopes of getting something to eat.Its like black friday when the doors open.Staff was great.Beach was great but i would not return to this resort.

Sol Palmeras: Beautiful beach!!

I travel to Cuba three times a year but hadn't been to varadero for at least five. Beautiful beach as I remembered !! The hotel was nice. Room was dated but clean. They could use new beds but I did manage to sleep. I found the staff was very friendly and service was great. Pool is in need of repair ..missing tiles but was cleaned daily!! N [... read more]ever a problem for lounge chairs at the beach or pool. No issues with towels. Nightly entertainment in lobby was good. The only think that stops me from returning is the bed. If you don't mind a rock bed then you won't have any issues. I was in the main hotel on second floor. Great location. I did ask to see the bungalows in case I decided to return but I found them to be dated and also in need of repair. To sum it up... Very friendly staff Great al carts Beautiful beach Good service Clean Air conditioning in room worked great Repairs needed in some areas Beds horrible

Melia Marina Varadero: Definitely Not A 5 Star resort!

This resort needs a lot of upgrades to meet my expectations as a 5 star. I have been visiting Cuba every year for the past 16 years, so I know what to expect from the country. My husband and I have travelled all over the island, as well as Cayo Largo. We also spoke to others staying at the resort, and the consencus seemed to be the same...... Our room, while being large and well set up, needed a lot of repairs to bring it up to standard. The grounds were pretty bare, and not what we are  [... read more]used to seeing at other resorts. The buffet was the same every day. Not a lot of variety of seafood at all. Three varieties of fish, and maybe shrimp twice a week! Not at all what we have been accustomed to, on an island in the Atlantic ocean!! Night life was practically non-existent. They had a Cuban band two or three nights that played all Spanish music, which was okay, but we were expecting the stage shows in an actual theatre setting. Anyhow, we would not go back there. We made the most of our week in the sun, and spent some time at the pool as the beach was not the greatest either. Very small and lots of kelp and seaweed.

Melia Cayo Coco: Amazing Resort

We were very happy with everything about this resort. The grounds were lovely, the pool and beach were wonderful. We enjoyed the restaurants, the shows, and the many places to lounge. We also enjoyed the Sports Club (archery, shooting, playing pool and ping pong. The music was excellent and the staff were amazing. Our room was also everything you could ask for. The Sports Club could do with a make over.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Nice beaches

The resort had really nice beaches, fun events and friendly staff. The excursions were also lots of fun and reasonably priced. There were a lot of line ups though and they ran out of essentials like towels, toilet paper and soap regularly. The buffet and a la cart restaurants weren't the greatest.

Melia Cayo Coco: Second excellent stay!

This was our second time at this resort and our ninth trip to Cuba. The drive from the airport to the resort was only 20 minutes. Our standard room, 9412, was ready upon our arrival. It was nicely situated and recently redecorated. We hardly heard a peep from the people in the room above us. Both the maid service and turn-down service were excellent. We found the best coffee in the Snack Bar every morning after our beach walk at sunrise. We also enjoyed pizzas at the Snack Bar. We ate breakfast  [... read more]outside at the buffet. Endless choices! We also had two dinners at the buffet. We had lunch as often as possible at the Beach Restaurant. We enjoyed the live Cuban music there every day except Fridays and Sundays. Thank you Son Del Rio Cuba! Both the International Restaurant and Italian Restaurant were excellent for dinners. We also enjoyed Cuban food in the Italian Restaurant one night. The Beach Restaurant was unfortunately closed for roof repairs in the evenings. The beach and ocean swimming were wonderful for 5 days. It was too windy the other 2 days. The pool is very shallow but refreshing. There are endless activities and opportunities to meet people. The evening showtimes are put on by very talented and energetic performers. We were treated by the hotel to a group loyalty lunch. It was very much appreciated. Thank you for our conversation Alicia (with Customer Service). We will be back!

Melia Marina Varadero: Beautiful resort , beaches but not the food ...

The hotel was beautiful, modern and clean . I didn't find there were many shows or activities to do but definitely a good place to go relax . The only thing I didn't enjoy was the food . I couldn't find anything to eat and felt sick for most of time last few days ... I understand the country is not very wealthy but it would have been nice to have some good food for tourists while they are spending a week or more there . Overall the trip was a 7 out of 10 I'd say .

Melia Cayo Coco: A Quick Trip to Melia Cayo Coco

After days of no sun in Ontario, decided on a 4 day junket to Cayo Coco. Hotel is 10 minutes from the airport. Upon arrival, at the hotel, was greeted by the front desk staff. Check-in took seconds and the luggage was off to the room, I was off to the bar for an adult beverage! Next morning, had breakfast in the buffet. Melia Cayo Coco: Second Stay and will return

The Melia Cayo Coco, this was our second time to this resort in 3 years it went well beyond meeting our expectations. We were there in 2015 for our first time and loved it, but went elsewhere in 2016 due to a lower price at another resort, we were not however as pleased as we were with the Melia. THE BEACH is amazing, especially after their hard work of expanding it in late 2016, more umbrella and palapas, always shade if you want it, never over crowded. All in all there is nothing we did not like at the Melia, we will definitely be back for a 3rd visit, the first year we had a party of 8 this time a party of 4, I can say without a doubt that we were all very pleased.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: We have to return to the Paradisus Rio De Oro!

We had a wonderful time and can only say positive things about our stay! The room was lovely - an updated bathroom with walk in shower, and we had a corner suite, which was very nice! The meals - whether we dined in the buffet - which was excellent, with so many options or the a la carte, were so delicious! The staff provided such wonderful service throughout the resort! Melia Jardines del Rey: Awesome Resort, Awesome Holiday

My Fiance and I just got back from the Melia Jardines del Rey 2 days ago, stayed Jan 25 till Feb 1st. Travelled as a couple. We stayed in building 12 on the 3rd floor, honestly, best building! was close to everything. Just let me start by saying don't listen to the bad reviews, if you have been to Cuba before, then you know there is Cuba Time. We have been to Cuba 3 times, and other than the Melia, this resort is by far the best we have been to. This resort is amazing. (you are on vacation, whats the rush?) tip: the 24 hour bar makes an amazing pollo chicken sandwich (chicken and vegetables sandwich...its a must try) We didnt do any A La Cartes as we just wanted to enjoy ourselves this year, but heard great things about them from others. The resort is big, yes, but everything is localized, making it really easy to get to the buffet, lobby, pools, and beach. The beach: The beach is AMAZING!!! its huge, and you can walk down to the cove to see starfish, kongs and fish. The ocean was like glass, so clear. Rooms were clean, always had bottled water, and tipped the beer guys for extra beer. No issues. Tip: bring your own beach towel. We were there when it was fully booked, (even though it didnt seem that busy) and was hard to get a beach towel, but we brought our own and just used those for the week, was no bid deal. Honestly, our only complaint, was some of the people who were there vacationing. They complained and were very rude at times (butting in lines, mad because you were there first for drinks, etc) Relax...Your in Cuba!!!! ps. yes there are mosquitos, we were told about them on our bus, and you are in a hot climate, bring bug spray and dont wear perfumes, you will be fine.
