Loved this place !

We had a great time, loved it and plan to go back next year ! No complaints whatsoever !! Staff were wonderful, place was clean and well groomed, food was great, especially at the 24 hr bar ! Beaches were beautiful. Plenty of everything for all.

A nice holiday.

A lot of locals on the beach often asking the vacationers to buy items or give them items. Rooms- standard rooms are poor-no balconies, no fridges. Villa's are much nicer. Not much going on with the entertainment staff and we found the evening shows were often repeated. A nice resort if you like to walk, very big although many of the sections were closed when we were there.

Great resort for 3 *

Clean room, good location, beautiful beach. The beef was to tough to eat, so I had fish and chicken. Upgraded to a villa, the room was clean and nice for a 3 *. Lots to do and see, the market is just next to the resort. The horse and buggy was a great way to see Cuba. Ricco at the pirate ship makes the best cocktails I have ever had. Overall the staff were friendly and helpful. I will definitely return to this resort.

Rooms need upgrading

I was shocked when I checked into my garden view room. The room and bathroom were small, hole and mould on the wall. Air condition was old and very loud. No key available for the safe. Hot water faucet broken in the shower. I upgraded to tropical room right away. It was better but the air-condition kept me awake all night. Food is the same every day. Beach is beautiful but the locals littered on the beach. However, I met friendly vacationers and that helped with my stay there

For the money club amigo is great!

Great food, great beach, people are friendly, very clean but some of the resort is old. It does need some attention here and there but its well maintained. Snorkeling is second to none the best snorkeling ive ever done.! Very comparable the great barrier reef in australia. For the money you cant beat club amigo Guadalavarca!

Second time and won't be my last!

I was at Club Amigo last year and noticed many improvements. The gardens and grounds were very pretty and tidy and the gardeners worked constantly. New low flush toilets and shower heads in the gardenview rooms and roofing was in progress. Food was more varied this year and very tasty. The water is purified and good to drink in the restaurants and bars only. Again the staff was friendly and responsive to requests. Rooms are clean but basic. We took a catamaran tour with snorkelling and dolphin swim that I would do again! :) There horseback riding available close to the resort. There are so many things to do at this resort!! Ah, the beach... it is one of the best in Cuba and the best I've ever seen with white sands and long stretches of it for strolls at sunset. I love this place and it feels like a second home!

Simply Beautiful!

The online pictures of Club Amigo do not do the resort justice. I was so wonderfully surprised by the beauty and location on the most wonderful beach, clear water and sandy bottom, awesome snorkeling steps from our room. We had no idea, arriving at midnight that there was actually two reception areas. Book the lower priced room online, and upgrade at the main reception for 3.00 a day. Well worth the upgrade. Be sure to see the aqua show, rent a taxi for the day and go into to Holguin, buy your cigars there, for a 1/3 the price of the cigar shops. I

Excellent place ...very friendly staff

Seemed to be doing a lot of painting and repairs ..keeping the place clean and up to date. Since it was coming to the end of their season ..less people so no lineups ... Rooms clean and fresh ... Ran out of water in room but was quickly fixed. Ran Terry Fox there :-)

Honest Review

This was our 5th family trip to Cuba so we are somewhat familiar with what to expect. Based on our experience and comparisons with other resorts we have visited we offer the following review: The Good: - grounds and pools are well kept; - lobster dinner is a must [keep in mind that a half lobster (additional $10 cuc) is actually a full lobster and a full lobster (#20 cuc) is actually 2 lobsters]; - romantic dinner along the beachfront is a must ($10 cuc); - specialty coffees (especially the cap [... read more]puccinos) at Ashley's Cafe are amazing; - Rico's Pirate Bar absolutely makes the best drinks by far; - at a minimum upgrade to an ocean view tropical room (strongly recommended); -snorkeling along the reef between Club Amigo and Brisas Resorts was amazing (about 300 metres from shore); - weather was unbelievably beautiful - although the resort is very large it is very manageable if you stay in the main resort building as it is located in the middle of things - close to pools, beaches, buffets, a la cartes, coffee shops, the market area, rico's pizza, bars, etc. The Not so Good: - more front desk staff required and more customer training required; - beaches are not on the same level as other beaches found in the Cayos areas of Cuba; - beaches are decent and segmented by rock outcroppings and also require some serious clean-up (garbage left behind by both tourists and locals) especially along the public beach area; - notable amount of beggars along the main beach and walkways; - resort is tired and showing its age; - do not expect to find a stocked bar fridge in your room (or a bar fridge in most rooms). You will have to pay for your drinking water (luckily very cheap) or use a central water filtering system in the main resort building. This was the first for us in Cuba! - Holguin Airport requires some serious plumbing upgrades - both times we visited this part of Cuba, there were issues with the washrooms which lead to disgusting conditions for users In light of the above, I would still recommend this resort as it offers very good value for the money!

Love this resort!

Everything here is great and that is why we returned for our second visit. We have no complaints and would recommend this resort to anyone looking for an inexpensive holiday at a beautiful destination.

My favorite place in Cuba

I've been 6 times and it just gets better. The bottom line is a fabulous clean sandy beach with delicious crystal clear water. Rooms are fine, unless you're the type that spends all day watching TV while you're there. Food gets better every year, I always gain weight!

Home away from Home

We booked last minute and paid a decent price . We have been here 12 times so knew what we were getting for our dollar .The service at the front desk was exceptional as was the service throughout the resort during our whole stay . Beautiful beach and I didn't notice as much bumming as previous visits . The weather was excellent , hot sunny every day . If I was to complain about anything it would have to be the food , it is very repetitive but we know that from previous visits and we don't go hun [... read more]gry by any means. By the time a week is up I'm ready for some good food . It's a great place to go if you want to meet locals and learn the Cuban lifestyle . If you ever get a chance to visit a Cuban's home I strongly recommend it . We visit a family and look so forward to it . We feel very safe here anytime day or night .

Great holiday

The best advice we received from previous reviews was to book a villa. Our room was well equipped, clean, with good air conditioning and well located close to a beach, pool and 24 hr. bar, which did pose problems with late night revellers inconsiderate of those trying to sleep. The beach did tend to become littered with plastic cups by late afternoon. Very few Canadians thought to bring their own reusable mugs.

This resort has many different room types and costs. We started on in a std rm which is in what they call the "Barracks". It is a small room with no hairdryer or balcony. It is central on the resort, however you can walk the 4 phases of the resort in minutes. We upgraded to a bungalow for $7 pesos per day, much nicer. They have deals at the front desk to upgrade to a villa or bungalow for a lot less than on line when booking ur trip. They have amazing poutin at the snack bars, a must try. The resort itself was definitely a 3 star but all staff was friendly and accommodating. There is a bank onsite at the bungalow lobby to exchange ur money, cheaper than the exchange in the main lobby. There are 4 buffets, all the same, the main lobby is crowded so go to another. Beach is beautiful. Even though 3 star i would go back for cheap price

Another fun time had by all!

This is my 3rd time to this resort and will definitely not be my last. The rooms are cleaned daily - REALLY cleaned - the grounds are absolutely beautiful and it is sprawling! Seems to go on forever - which is fine because they have little trains that will drive you around if you get tired. There are at least 3 buffets and a few restaurants a la carte - something for everybody - one of the buffets that my daughter and I latched on to served Cuban food which we totally love. There is a piano bar named Ashley's - in honor of a tourist, from what I understand, who died in a car crash in Cuba. The girl that plays is amazing; you can hear the piano from outside the hotel as you are walking the grounds. The beach is amazing and if you walk to the left, there is a beautiful place called Ancla - for beautiful photos and there is a restaurant (really reasonable price) - go for the blue one in behind - it's better, in my opinion. There is a crazy fun flea market right on the grounds and the people that work there are SO nice. All in all, really good value for your money.

A little disappointed

To start the positives are the resort grounds, pools, and beach was beautiful, bar staff was very friendly and mixed some really good drinks - now the negatives - evening entertainment too repetitive, room was musty with lots of mildew(Villa section), resulting to be moved to another Villa which was closer to everything - front desks staff not overly helpful and at times somewhat rude, the food left alot to be desired not a whole lot of variety - if you like rice and chicken you will love the bu [... read more]ffet - I would return but the price would have right......

Perfectly adequate

We had never been to Cuba- a mom and twelve year old son. An all-inclusive package meant that we didn't have to plan anything after the purchase of our trip. Resort is worn and didn't awe me aesthetically, but we were well fed, rested, safe, and clean. Room and beds were really comfortable. Slept very well on top floor of main building. No water twice, came back after 15 minutes. Power went out twice for short periods. No critters or dirt in our room. Cable tv. No wireless, but you can pay $3 us [... read more]d for an hour at hotel computer with internet. Most staff friendly. It was possible to eat very well, even though some of the food did not appeal to me. Every day had good grilled meats, fresh salad (cucumber, tomato, cabbage and romaine), rice, fresh smoothie, ice cream, fresh pineapple (in season in March) and bananas. Filtered water in restaurants and lobby- no need to buy. Clean towels. I was disappointed by the litter left by beachgoers and smokers: straws, plastic cups, cigarette butts, sunscreen containers, bottles. We picked up 200 straws one day. There is no printed information at Club Amigo: no maps, no diagrams, no brochures about flora and fauna. Only info is about Castro and che Guevara. With no wireless and no info, it took us a while to orient ourselves in the country and province. Half the free to borrow bicycles were broken (pedals) and it took us four days to get a chance on the heavy fixed-gear bikes. They were fine for going 4 km to the nearest community. We paid Transat extra for two excursions- expensive, but good because we got to meet Cubans and see the countryside. Grand Safari is deceiving in its description- I was looking forward to a couple of hours walking in the forest, but it was 10 minutes walk and six hours driving. We did, however, learn a lot from our driver and the scenery. Island Paradise takes you to snorkeling no better than the snorkeling at Guardalavaca, but the beach/lunch stop is beautiful. Almost the same food as the resort. Safari drive is unremarkable- like going to a zoo in Nova Scotia and short. Catamaran boat ride is very long with little to see. Again, not what I expected, but the drive took us through villages and lovely scenery. Snorkeling at Guardalavaca was great for us, except it turns out that March is a windy season, so we only had one day when we weren't being tossed around in the waves and getting scratched by the coral at low tide. High tide was out of the question for us- too easy to get swamped by waves and too deep to stand up 300 metres from shore- we are Nova Scotian and totally used to swimming in waves. The flights and shuttles were straightforward and without incident. Plane held ~250 Canadians, resort was 95% Canadian- francophone and anglophone. The trip was not a perfect one, but very interesting, enjoyable, and easy.

Club Amigo Atlantico Quardalavaca

this was our first trip as a couple. I had previously been to Varadero in 2010.. We had read several reviews on this resort, some bad, some good!!!! Our experience could not have been any better. The room was very nice and clean (Villa Room) we upgraded, COLD Air Conditioning and rooms cleaned meticulously everyday!!! WELL WORTH THE UPGRADE! The food was great and no concerns whatsoever. The Beach's were simply amazing, white sand, lots of chairs and the Turquoise waters were just Beautiful!!! The grounds were kept very clean and staff were out everyday cleaning the pools and grounds. The staff were genuinely very nice people and treated us great. Very appreciative of their Canadian friends!!! The exchange rate was on par with US dollars, so $100 Can = $72 pesos, not great but we were prepared for this. The Resort had a bank in the main lobby and also a short walk away in the Bungalow area. Nightly entertainment was okay, even heard a band named The Clam play Gun's and Roses.. AWESOME!!! Very talented Cuban dancers and entertainers!!! WE were at Cub Amigo from March 13, 2016 to March 20th, 2016...... WE WILL DEFINETLY BE GOING BACK IN 2017...... FLEW WITH CUBANA AIRLINES...great experience and each traveler was allowed 2 bags at 23kg/50lbs each and a carryon bag as well........ The weather, we really lucked out on... 31-33 degrees everyday, No rain and very and I mean very little to no clouds the whole week!!! Bring lots of sunscreen and or lotion. the Heat can become very intense and shade was hard to come by, thankfully the Ocean Breeze helped...... Also incredible snorkeling right off each beach, no less than 50 to 100 yards off shore!! Would love to see a Karaoke Bar on Resort, would be a big hit. Beautiful Resort

This was my 3rd time at this resort. The grounds are beautiful and has 4 pools Main pool has swim up bar.I liked staying in the main building because it was central to everything. I had a 14 and 16 yr old with me so it was better for them. I have also stayed in the villa as well. That area is more quiet.It is awesome. Daily market open and is about half block away. They sell everything there.Cheaper than the souvenir store.

Great weather.. Resort needs work

Upgrade to the bungalows if you can. Rooms need a lot of work. Air conditioner didn't work well. Nor did the safe. Very dated resort. Don't have high food expectations. Very repetitious and not very good. Staff not overly helpful or friendly.
