Nice Resort

Overall, our vacation was a good one. The resort was clean, the staff were attentive, the food was ok and the weather was perfect. The downside of our vacation was mostly that the resort lobby was constantly filled with smoke from the many smokers there. You could not escape smokers. It was like this from Saturday until about Wednesday when the bulk of the smokers left. The constant smoking everywhere made for a most unpleasant time for us.

Amazing resort

Nothing but good to say about this resort Friendly, well maintained, good food and spectacular beach. Beer garden is a must stop to enjoy cold " cerveza" The animacion starting at the beach and ending at night show is great.

Ok resort

Was a very big resort beautiful beach huge pool no issues with finding spots the food was good not great but plenty of choices and lots to do only down side was the service it was so slow to get served it was always a waiting game and trying to get there attention they would just ignore people

Wonderful week in Cuba!

The Playa Pesquera hotel was a wonderful vacation spot. Beautiful rooms, excellent choice of foods at the buffet restaurant and the a la cartes. The staff were always very friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back again!

Very nice place by Cuba standards

The part of the hotel I stayed in needed some updating. Was clean and the staff worked hard to keep it that way. Beach and pool were beautiful. Larger than the two hotels beside us. The food was also good by Cuba standards. Lots of variety in the larger buffet dining room. Service was good. Staff very friendly and spoke english well. Toronto had an ice storm the evening we were to return and the plane was very late leaving. Sunwing put us on a bus to the airport but about 10 minutes down to  [... read more]road they found that the plane had not left Toronto. They took us back to the hotel so we could have something to eat. I though this was nice because it ended up by a long night. The weather was great. This was a nice place for Cuba. Note this was a very quiet resort which is what I was looking for.

Again Playa Pesquero Delivers

This was our second time there in 3 years, the service and food was good before. But I must say the a la cartes restaurants like the Italian and the Romantico surpassed our expectations. The staff were very welcoming as always. Fidel moved to the beach bar which is unfortunate he was great at the pool bar, Gerald and Madelin from the pool bar are still the best bartenders in the place. I would like to see management do something about the hot water and pressure, if everyone decided to take a bath or shower in the building you get none and must wait, not convenient. Amazing place

Room good always clean Food great Drinks great. People great Beach amazing. Nothing really bad about the place For sure would go again

Crystal turquoise water, great food and friendly Cuban people

Grounds are beautiful, clean, natural and filled with local flowers and coconut palms. Bananas were beginning to ripen. Safe and wonderful place to walk, like being on a large private estate. Rooms are spacious, attractive and very clean. Enormous open air lobby is filled with music in the evening and although large is designed so that there are multiple smaller areas. Lots of activities going on during the day including free Spanish lessons and Aqua fitness in one of the many pools. Huge buffet [... read more] restaurant allows those who must watch their diet an enormous variety of healthy and delicious foods. Several other restaurants offer wonderful meals also. If you have mobility problems they have ground floor rooms with ample space for a walker or wheel chair and large shower with safety bars. Otherwise, the rooms are either on the ground floor or second floor and are very well and attractively furnished. Our fourth time there as we love it! Only drawback this time around was the lack of coffee maker. They had not received shipment.

Great value

This resort met our expectations. Rooms are dated but clean, food at buffet was okay and a la carte restaurants were awesome. Grounds are well-kept and staff is very friendly. Service is excellent throughout the resort. I would recommend this resort if you like larger resorts.

Great time

Rooms and service were great. Very large resort with huge pool and beautiful beach. Food was decent for Cuba, with the late night chicken being one of our favourites. Mojitos and Coffee were delicious. Staff was great.

Beach Vacay

I very much enjoyed my stay at Playa Pesquero Beach resort. I found the grounds quite large though so a good walk from your room to the beach/lobby/or dinner. So my advise would be to take advantage of the free car/shuttle rides! The public area was quite well kept and clean for the most part, no complaints. The beach was beautiful and long, only issue would be lack of room to play beach volleyball - as a large volleyball group we found it difficult to find a location that was large enough to pl [... read more]ay and not interfere with other sunbathers, swimmers, etc. The food/dining experience was great, the food was delicious. The A La Carte featured restaurants were all very good. The guest rooms were well maintained and clean, we very much recommend this trip and location to others!!

Food was great, resort was so so

First part of review is a combined review of tripcentral/transat as i am not 100% sure where the split in services is. In this age of doing everything online and on our own i am honestly not sure the value in using a company like TripCentral. Many things which they should have handled they did not handle and then blamed us for their mistakes. Very odd reaction to things which clearly were their issue. A few things: - when we lost booking for DR we were told because we did not pay our deposit [... read more] on time; yet we were told a date; and we paid by that date. If TC/TS did not reserve the space for us; that is not our fault - we were told we would have plenty of room at Pesquero to set up volleyball nets; yet there was no room and many issues with the other clients at the resort as we tried to find room to set up - this is maybe hard to blame TC/TS as they clearly were not aware of what it meant for adequate beach for playing volleyball - when i paid for my single upgrade i said "as long as i can have a king bed" - but instead i got 2 small, very old, very uncomfortable beds. resort: - my first time in Cuba and i had always heard: "the food in Cuba is terrible" - but the food at Pesquero was awesome - very impressed - the staff also were very friendly and helpful - the resort itself though is fairly run down. the grass is mostly dead, very few tress - broken bathroom fixtures - beds are very old and uncomfortable - water pressure in shower is intermittent at best - there is basically no wifi at the hotel; first place in the world i have seen this - i was told this is typical for Cuba; but also heard people say they had much better wifi at other resorts in Cuba.. so i suspect it is just the resort not wanting to spend money - i think someone said this was a 4.5 star resort; i would rate it 2.5-3.0

Playa Pesquero

So the good things: about the hotel was lots of food and drinks big resort plenty of pools assortment of restaurants, games and day activities. friendly staff, Great for families and older couples or singles. Not so good things: very hard shallow coarse sand not good for beach volleyball. A couple of the other vacationers very rude. Not the best for singles and under 30's. Night life was weak, no clubs or dancing for single people after 12am.

Good Resort for Cuba

Good for Cuba, is what I hear. You don't go to Cuba for the food; knowing this, the food was better than expected. Service was OK but with weird quirks - the maid and mini-bar staff walked in on us twice and literally stood at the edge of the bed while we asked them to leave..the beach was good but with coral in places...the pools were great, the weather was unreal and an island paradise catamaran trip is recommended and was the best part of our trip...along with renting scooters and going off r [... read more]esort for the day. The room was pretty sad for a resort, our bed was broken, a/c that didn't really work - but we managed with it, sink that leaked on to the floor (we compensated by putting our dirty towels underneath it), bathtub drain was clogged for our first two days (called to have it fixed both days - fixed on the second), no view of anything other than other 'villas' - all pretty minor things and small annoyances and nothing that REALLY bothered us other than the bed - we both hated it. Other weird things - only one 1L bottle of water per room per day, maids wouldn't give you more than two towels a day unless you tipped them, buffet not open until 730am - so if you go on an excursion that starts prior to that (which most of them do) you basically need to pack a breakfast the night before...I could go on. We were a big group and still had an awesome time (I mean how much are you in your room anyway), but I've been to 4 all inclusive resorts now and this was BY FAR the worst one and would never return or recommend it to anyone.

Very nice resort!

It was a big resort but well kept. The people were nice as always. The food was pretty good, they had a good variety. The fried chicken, calamari, shrimp skewers & Mexicana pizzas were the best! We had just 1 bad experience from the food at the Mediterranean restaurant for a dinner reservation. We had several different dishes & each was either dry, tough meat or the pasta dish was soupy. It's as though it was from the buffet after sitting for hours. It was a late reservation though so that could [... read more] be it. The only other comment was that our disco was closed & there wasn't much in the way of entertainment happening during the evenings. We made due with some karaoke or we just played cards but a better alternative for a disco & a few shows would have been better.

Just OK

The good: Snack bar food was the best I have ever had in Cuba. Rooms are large and well maintained. Pool looks very nice, didn't go in, lots of chlorine odour, prefer the ocean Snorkelling by the rocks at the far end of the beach is good, lots of fish The bad: Too large, lots of trekking to get everywhere Renovations in peak season of games area and fitness area Hot tub is a cold tub Games area lights shut off at 8PM, makes no sense Very little entertainment, not much beyond usual  [... read more]pool show Disco closed for renovation, no beach disco Karaoki every night is a bit lame, could have used that venue as a dance bar when there is no disco The Mediterranean al-la-carte was the worst I have ever been to at any resort, cold and contaminated with something Very little open space to set up volleyball courts on the beach, very hard sand with shells and coral in most open areas If you want to lay around in nice surroundings, eat reasonable food and just drink then this is for you. If you are and active person that wants to do stuff then go somewhere else.

Amazing Resort

Excellent resort. I have already recommended this resort to my friends for March Break but it is already sold out. Excellent for snorkeling, food is great and we had lobster at least three (3) times during our stay.

Would recommend this Resort.

We have been to Cuba 25 times and 11 of these times have been to Holguin. It is our fav place and 1 st time to this Resort. Even tho the Reviews were good, we were skeptical because of its size. We were pleasantly surprised. It is a massive Resort and I understand the largest in Holguin. It never seemed crowded as it is so spread out. There were always empty lounge chairs around the pools and even on the Beach. Thank goodness we didn't have to scramble to save chairs at 6 am.as we had to do [... read more] at other Resorts! The Buffet was gigantic with a huge variety of food. There are 2 Buffets side by side ,one smaller than the other and service was top notch. We are Cappacino fans and found a 24 hour Cappacino bar in the Lobby which topped it off. The rooms are clean ,but, we found the Superior Room that we had booked was 'tired' and needs some updating. Our Friends were in a regular room which was cheaper and nicer than ours. What I am saying is that it is not nec. to book a Superior room as the rooms are all the same and all have Balconies. Another bonus is that you are given 4 A La Carte Reservations[ Romantico being the fav.]. There are electric carts that drive around the cobblestone walkways to pick you up if you don't like walking. We were in a Bldg at the back of the Resort which was quiet and we enjoyed the 5 min walk to the Buffet etc. Another nice feature is that all the Bldgs are only 2 storys high. You are not charged for the safe in your room which was also a bonus. We had trouble with the safe the first day and Maintenance was at our door within 3 minutes. We had to call Maintenance a 2 nd time for another minor problem and again a Fella was at our door in minutes. We have never experienced such prompt Service in other Resorts. The Entertainment was only mediocre. This is the only neg. comment ,but, that is not important to us. This resort has it all for us and we plan to take a Group of Friends there next January if not sooner.

Another great trip!!

This is our 8th visit to Playa Pesquero and it was fantastic as usual!! Will be returning again!! Saw some new items at the buffet, food seemed to be better than i remebered, bed more comfy, so they are always improving an already great place!!

Great Vacation!

We really enjoyed our vacation! The food was fantastic! We went to five a la cart restaurants and really enjoyed everyone! The red wine was pretty good too, some from Spain and some Chilean.The Beer Garden was a favorite for a late afternoon shrimp skewer or octopus ceviche. Its open 24hrs so we went there at 6am for breakfast the day we left as our bus left at 8am. This is one of the few resorts we have visited that you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to get pool loungers with some [... read more] shade. We needed 4 loungers and yet we never had a problem all week. We usually were at the pool all morning and the beach in the afternoon. They could use more small tables as they were hard to come by. The rooms were a good size and our maid did a fantastic job and was always so happy! They could use some updating but the beds were comfortable and you had everything you needed. Be sure and take your electrical converter as it is not the same as Canada. The evening entertainment was very well done. One night there was a water show in the pool which was really good. While we were there they celebrated the resorts 14th anniversary and they had a party with a band and served pork from a pig roasted on a spit, cuban soup, candy floss and punch on the street between the pool and the beach. I was also really impressed that they had a party for the staff as well in the theater with entertainment and served them the pork on a bun and cake. It showed that they valued their staff. There is a paved walkway near the beach that goes quite a distance between a few resorts for a good walk or run in the morning or evening. If you take a turn away from the beach between the other hotels you can go up to a little plaza and craft market where you can get souvenirs for a good price from some very nice people. There were a couple of minor complaints: 1. The wifi system was terrible! We received 1 card each, good for one hour of wifi in which you have to sign on and off when you are finished. It was very difficult to get signed off. There was always several people in the internet room asking the staff to sign them off. It was easier signing in and out on there computers. 2. There is a money exchange at the hotel but we had a real problem getting 1CUC coins or bills for tipping. Usually the smallest we could get was a 3 CUC bill that is around $4 Canadian. Sometimes you could get change from the bartenders or wait staff. 3. The grounds were not very well maintained. They didn't have the manicured gardens that most resorts do. 4. The Transat brochure stated that their Distinction Properties (Playa Pesquero Montecristo Club being one) would have slippers and robes in the room but there aren't. It's not a big deal but I would have taken my own had I known as there always seems to be sand tracked in. All in all this is a very good resort with a lot of very nice people!
