Great Cuba Resort

Staff are wonderful throughout the hotel. Beach is beautiful. Food was good for Cuba. Rooms were clean yet getting old. Beds were uncomfortable. Pools were clean and lots of chairs. Three days in a row they did not have clean towels.

had big problem in my room took lot of pictures and show to the customer service and they agree to change my room received a more expensive room but this room had different problem but was better than the first one ,It took 2 day to fix plumper problem The safe was not in the closed cabin just on top of shelf ,took a picture holding the safe.

Very Good Amenities, and Frienly Staff

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel it has excellent amenities, such as the Pools, beaches, and Activities. The Food at the buffet was surprisingly good for Cuba, although, we wished that they had Lobster. The Staff are very friendly, although there were a couple of Front desk staff who were a bit snappy, luckily you do not have to interact with these individuals a lot. The sliding door to the patio in our room was hard to open, as a matter of fact you could hear which guests were opening the Patio doors. The sheets had stains, the Furniture in the room had stains, and numerous other deficiencies. One has to accept the fact that the room is there to sleep, bathe, and change in, and not there for one to stay in all the time. This is Cuba, and one has to realize that they do not have access to the same resources/materials and standards that we are accustomed to here in Canada. Get past this point, and this is a very good Hotel/resort. My suggestion to anyone thinking of going to Cuba is to leave Canada with an open mind, and do not be too critical and remember where they are. Do your research with the currency and culture, remember that the CUC is pegged to the US Dollar, so if the Canadian Dollar is low, you will suffer with the exchange rate. The Cuban people are genuinely friendly, and lead simple lives. Cuba is a very safe country to visit, I would not hesitate to go back to Cuba with my family again.

Very enjoyable resort.

After reading lots of negative reviews, I was not sure what to expect. I found this resort very clean, food very good, service great, and the staff couldn't have been nicer.The beach was beautiful. Although we did find the loungers hard on the back. I can see where some people had an issue with the room towels, bud I didn't let it spoil my vacation. Not a 5 star

The resort looked beautiful from the outside but once inside you could see it was falling apart. The people that work at the resort are friendly and helpful. The food was just ok. There was only 3 choices for al a carte restaurants and it is hard to get into because they have limited seating. The buffet staff were amazing but the food I find was recycled. No air conditioning in the buffet restaurant so it gets quite hot in there. The rooms were ok. The maid was attentive to my families need [... read more]s. The towels and sheets are laundered out of the resort so some days they didn't have towels to exchange. The entertainment was average. These are the people who are there to get you involved in the activities and poolside music was the same songs on replay. Throughout the resort you can see signs of disrepair. For resort that's fairly young, it shows much older. I have been to other resorts in Cuba with fewer stars and they faired better. In regards to this resort I don't think I will be returning. Cuba is a beautiful country and the people are hard working and friendly. It's a shame that they don't maintain their resorts a little better.

Better than expected

After reading several reviews before our trip, we weren't sure what to expect. Beautiful beach, pools, great entertainment, buffet food wasn't bad (just repetitive), a la carte at Japanese restaurant was really enjoyable. Most staff were friendly, but we found a few to be quite rude. We were disappointed with our room; the bed was hard and lumpy, the closet doors were broken, lock on bathroom door was also broken, the sheets on the bed and towels were not changed for the entire week, but mi [... read more]ni fridge was restocked as promised. Fortunately, the maintenance issues did not ruin our fun and we had a great week overall.

Nice stay

This was as good a stay as I've ever had in Varodero. The pools and beach are beautiful. My only concerns are with the overall condition of the resort, I think "worn" is a good descriptor. The food is comparatively good for Cuba. The location is a bit far from downtown if that's important to you, a $20 cab ride.

Fantastic

This was an amazing resort, we have never traveled south before and have decided we are going back. We will not book any other hotel but the Iberostar Laguna Azul, (I would be afraid I might be dissapointed with something else.) it was amazing the staff were so friendly we had 2 rooms between 4 of us they were clean and spacious. There was non stop entertainment the theater shows were great. I was very happy staying at the Iberostar Laguna Azul. We also did a couple of excursions which were great as well. We did the Jeep excursion and the catamaran, the guides were excellent and made the excursions fun.

Great resort

Food was good. Staff very friendly. First room was very inadequate the first night. But received better accommodation the next night. There was a shortage of towels had to request more. These were minor problems. The beach and the pool area was exceptional.

Amazing resort

Beautiful hotel, clean rooms. Variety of food. Friendly, helpful staff. Great service. Pools and beach are amazing! I will definitely return to this resort. Family friendly. Lots of activities for both adults and children.

Beautiful resort!

We travelled to Iberostar Laguna Azul from April 9th to the 16th and had the most fabulous time! Beautiful resort and even though it was a large resort everything was easy to find. Also enjoyed the food at the buffet and our servers were the most friendly and kind staff there! Tried the Romantico and the Japanese restaurant, both served fabulous food but the Japanese one was # 1. Our room was large with a king bed and a small sitting area. There was a couple issues but got resolved very quickly. [... read more] Pools were very clean and we spent alot of time there during the day. Beach was beautiful and large but only took in late afternoon walks. We went on one excursion to Havana and it was well worth the money. If you do nothing else do take this trip. We hired a taxi and our tour guide was Irene ( fabulous young lady and spoke English very well), highly recommend her! Overall this was great trip for us and I would definitely go back again!

Amazing resort

Was a great hotel the staff are fantastic, truly go above and beyond for the guests. Went down for a wedding with a group of 27 had a great week, would recommend and would return for another vacation.

Good value for the money

The grounds were nice, layout was great as everything was rather close for a large resort, even the beach. Rooms were tired. Food was ok, lots of choices. Great family resort - too many kids for me....

Good Resort

This is the second time staying at this resort. The grounds are well kept as are the public area. At out stay this time we could not get fresh towels for the beach, so in seven days we have fresh towels once!!. We were missing our toilet seat and the AC wasn't working well. There were less staff and the service slower than before. One morning I sat at the buffet for 25 mins and not a single person came to offer coffee. I ended up leaving with no coffee. Features are ok, same as before.

the hotel in general was very nice,beach excellente,rooms could need a little touchup,restaurant a la carte good, buffet could be better, staff good.night intertainement was excellent they work very hard and very professional in general i would recommend this resort.

Iberostar Laguna Azul

Despite the ground-hog day environment of thr packaged all-inclusive hotel the super nice and proud people of Cuba do what most of us privileged tourists couldn`t and wouldn`t do: make pizza or clean rooms or serve drinks 6 days a week 12 hours a day for 10 to 30 years in 30 degrees C. The entertainment was surprisingly good. The beach is spectacular, the pool great for adults and children. The hotel is safe and theft was never a doubt. When new this hotel was probably a grand hotel but time and the climate has taken its toll - it could be back there again with some investment of money. It`s Cuba at the end of the day and the economy and socialist system determines a lot of how it operates as we found out from a fantastic tour guide on our day trip to Havana. Yes the room was damp and everything smelled not like home, yes beach towels were never available to be changed, yes the room wasn't as clean as we would have wanted, yes it felt like the hotel was held together with good intentions in some scenarios Attempt to understand why things are the way they are and embrace them and you will enjoy yourself regardless of first world problems you see on review boards like limited wireless connectivity or the odd broken tile or you used the same beach towel all week or heaven forbid your cappuccino froth didn't have nutmeg on it like you asked for!

Amazing Resort and beach

I really enjoyed my stay at this resort. The beach was amazing, the night entertainment was great and so professional I thought I was in Vegas. Food was good with lots of variety. Rooms could use some renovations but very clean. Pool areas very nice. Fun entertainment on beach and pool area during the day. My only complaint would be more comfy chairs for the beach.

Wonderful experience!

A wonderful resort! My boyfriend and I and another couple just returned from the Iberostar Laguna Azul on Sunday. The lobby is very inviting - there are always things going on! Magic shows, bands playing on the terrace, a pianist, etc. and there are always a great number of drinks to try from the Lobby Bar (my favourite bar - they had the best drinks!). Wonderful service! The buffet I found quite enjoyable as well! Again, great service. Going to Cuba for the first time, I did not have high expectations for the food but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! Most of the food had good flavour and everything was almost always labelled so you knew what you were eating. The pasta station at dinner and the omelette station at breakfast were my favourite! Make use of these stations! The only small complaint I had about the buffet were the options.They seemed to be the exact same food every single day, with only a few variations. So definitely make use of your 3 A La Carte dinners and the different stations to try different things! The rooms were..okay. Our room overlooked the small pool so it was nice and quiet at nights where we weren't up late, or afternoons where we wanted to sleep. They were cleaned everyday, given fresh towels everyday, and the mini bar was restocked every other. However, they are VERY musty. Be prepared to smell like the inside of a closet all day and all your clothes needing a good wash when you return home, and also be sure to use your balcony to dry anything because nothing will dry in that room! Another thing about the rooms - if you are travelling as a couple, make sure you request, or your travel agent request, one king/queen. We were both travelling as couples and we both ended up with 2 twin beds. Not the end of the world, but a little annoying our first night. My friend tried to switch her room a few times with no luck - so try and get this figured out before you arrive (if this is possible). All in all - a great first Cuba experience! Make sure you do the Catamaran tour - everyone must see Cayo Blanco!

Beautiful beach

Overall my stay was very pleasant! The buffet food was as expected... mediocre at best. The restaurants were fantastic. I really enjoyed the Italian. The beach was postcard worthy. We attended a beach party one night that was hosted by hotel staff and that was a blast! One thing that I found as a surprise was there were no toilet seats on any of the toilets. Not even in our own room! Very strange. Definitely a good stay. Happy travelling!
