Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Love this Resort!

Beautiful grounds, lots of areas to walk, a large beach area and some smaller beaches. I really enjoy the pirate's beach party. Staff are very engaging and friendly...they get to know you. It feels like home there.

Playa Pesquero: Premium is well worth the extra!

We had a nice visit to Playa Pesquero Premium. The rooms were spacious and clean, the outdoor shower was an addictive treat and the large deck with daybed was used frequently. The food at the two premium restaurants was the best at the full resort. Food shortages were more evident in the main resort (bread, potatoes, butter were most notable). We had eggs daily. We went to the disco one night- was fun. The beach is fabulous and we always found lots of chairs and shade in the premium section of the beach. One thing to be mindful of- this resort is 80% French Canadians so if you don't speak French you might find it a bit challenging. The staff everywhere are amazing humans who provided us with great service. We took American dollars for tips which was appreciated (they can't use Canadian coins).

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Horrible

This hotel was absolutely disgusting. The first day upon my arrival nothing in my room worked including the safe TV phone and lights. I never had my phone working the entire week and the Wi-Fi was not working the entire week at all. In addition I came back home with bugs so if you want a vacation where you're not going to be bitten and carry bugs back home don't go to this Resort! I definitely give it zero Stars

Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort: Excellent Resort

Grounds are lush and beautiful, people are wonderful, ocean and beach are Amazing! Pools are Amazing! It was pretty windy everyday, maybe related to the time of year though? Foods served were good but no variety of cheeses or no bacon at all. Plentiful eggs during our stay. Family of five and we would recommend and return !

Playa Pesquero: Amazing Resort

We have been to this resort several times prior to this year and thoroughly enjoy Playa Pesquero and never had any complaints. This year we stayed on the Premium side and were totally thrilled with everything, may be our go to from now on. We have been returning to this place for several years and plan to continue.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Worth a second trip!

Beautiful grounds, great beach, good entertainment and friendly staff! Have never went to the same resort twice but I would consider going here again. Met lots of repeat guests who confirmed this happens alot!

Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort: Great vacation spot

We stayed one week at the resort and we enjoyed our time there. It is clean, the staff is very friendly and the rooms are spacious. The resort has a modern look to it. The grounds are well kept and the beach is very nice. There is no wine at the buffet and the bars, but at the a la carte restaurants, you could have red wine or sparking white wine. Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort: Great Resort

Resort was clean and modern for Cuba standards. It's nice that the buildings all connect for the most part so it was easy connecting with friends staying in different locations. Considering all the shortages we heard about from other resorts, we were pretty stocked all week. Nice that there is an opportunity to get off the resort by bike or horse and buggy with nearby shops and people. The place does lack a little bit of the character of the older resorts as it is more modern but that's more down to taste. The food options were two buffet locations, a beach grill (burger/hot dog/ ham sandwich and chips), and 4 al le cart options (International (which I would skip), Asian, Italian, Indian). We did meet some people who got in the Adults only section which has a lot of premiums including their own restaurant and pool. As we don't have kids and if we went again, we would try to get into that deal as they seemed to have priority on a lot. All in all it was a great stay and a welcome return to Cuba

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Wonderfully situated resort - the good and the bad

Hotel is pretty typical for the caribbean, concrete and bright colors. Not necessarily a bad thing, or a good thing, it is just common in the area and works well. The biggest pool is very shallow so not sure what use it is, the deeper pool that actually comes up to your chest is elsewhere on the grounds but really nice on hot days. I've been to varadero twice but never holguin, so i was prepared! brought tabasco, a spice wheel, ketchup and soy sauce. Much to my surprise it was rarely needed :o I'm not sure what magic this resort has but the food was the best in any cuban resort i've had before. Rooms are pretty typical, well laid out, the AC i think is on a timer on/off of some sort to conserve energy, it was a real pain to figure out. hot water in shower was great, pressure sucked but it did the job. cleaning staff were amazing. so friendly and grateful, wonderful to interact with. Language barriers. Holguin is not Veradero, i would classify it as more authentic cuba, and i actually really enjoyed it a lot more. That being said, i had been preparing for the trip using a Babbel+ app on my phone for 6 months, and boy am i glad i did. Very few people i met were fluent in english, even at the resort. It was a struggle most of the time to get my point or question across, but knowing the spanish i did helped 1000% being able to ask questions Who What When Where, know hours and time on a clock, count to 10, know cuanto cuesta (how much does that cost?), etc. basic stuff but it helped a lot at the resort and when we travelled to Holguin in a private taxi ($100 for the entire day for a group of 4), we found almost nobody spoke any engish at all, so even ordering a couple beers ($1 cristal) or lunch in my terrible spanish seemed to work. The times when we had internet access using google translate helped a ton. money down there, don't bring loonies and toonies, don't be 'those people'. cubans can't exchange them for money, they're worthless. tip in bills. go to the bank, get USD, bring at least $60 in $1 bills, and maybe $300 in 20's or something. that's all you'll need, everything we booked took credit card at the hotel. bringing back rum. i was disappointed that i couldn't find any of the rum i wanted to buy. everywhere i looked they only had havana club varieties. here's a tip though, bring back as many bottles as you want, just claim it at customs when you return to your country, you'll pay $20 and be on your way, it's no big deal, just don't lie or it's a huge fine, and yes, they know, they've seen the xray of your bag the beaches! amazing, of the 3 resorts in the area, this one had the best beach and water. However, that being said, my wife broke her toe in the ocean and i got pretty cut up, there is coral and stone in the shallow parts of the water that you might not see, bring WATER SHOES and be careful not to fall if there are waves. if you make it out to about waist high water you'll be pleased by all the fish swimming around you. crumble a couple ritz crackers in the water and 100 will appear out of nowhere, it's insane hahaha but fun

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: resort

the only thing we liked was the beach until the working ladies showed up and harassed the male tourists and no security to chase them away. there was no meat for meals. Selection was terrible food wise

Don Lino Hotel: Club amigo

We were moved to the club amigo due to issues at the don lino. We did get a chance to visit the don lino and it was a small resort and the grounds looked good. We did stay at the club amigo and we really enjoyed this resort. The rooms were cleaned and well maintained. The pools were clean and not over crowded. The Cubans that were at the resort were friendly and polite. For whatever reason it was guest from other countries that gave us the evil eyes for whatever reason lol. The ice was very yummy and they had different flavour almost each day. The pool bars and lobby bar and the 24 hr bar had all the same drinks and I wasn’t fussy so I drank what they had and enjoyed it. All in all the club amigo was a very well run hotel and I would recommend it as a good destination.

Playa Pesquero: Playa Pesquero

I was there Feb 27 to March 2 2024. I had been there years before in 2006. I met many people who have returned year after year ! The rooms are dated but comfortable and clean. The food was fine there were big differences between 2006 on the quality. There was a lot of variety and I loved the pasta stir fry bar each day and the fresh squeezed juice. I was lucky to learn about the “ gala”, a dinner for repeat customers-it was lovely ! The resort is huge and a trolly is needed to get around to the beach and some restaurants. We could not get into 2 restaurants we wanted - I understand repeat customers have more luck and $ help and they are air conditioned. The Romantica and the Italian one. Overall, it was lovely to get away . I will probably try a smaller resort next time, one that is easy to walk to the beach. I love Cuba, the people are beautiful and appreciate our gifts. I did exchange a lot of there $ and loonies and toonies for crisp no creased bills. I did get eaten by no - see- ums ugh, so take bug stuff ! .. overall it was a long overdue get away ..

Iberostar Coral Holguin: Coral level

The hotel was nice, but paying extra to get the best experience was not worth it. Did not get the room I paid for.The butler was no where to be found. Eat same food everyday and they would not book another restaurant for me to have different meals which was part of the packaged. I had to make a complaint to finally get a restaurant book for me and they also offered same food the coral level restaurant offered. I also feel like staff should treat everyone with same treatment. Playa Costa Verde: Did not disappoint again, Amazing Vacation

This is our third time to Playa Costa Verde. First time since 2019. I had read many reviews and knew there would be food supply issues, not at this resort though. The food options were very similar to pre covid. I brought ketchup and butter and it was needed, had eggs everyday. The biggest issue was no Vodka, as that is our go to drink, we made due with white rum though. All other drinks were available including mohitos.The staff as usual second to none. Only lost power for about 10 minutes the whole week. Can't wait to return. Maybe two weeks next time.

Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort: Beautiful Resort

I travelled with my husband, sister in law and another friend. The Gran Muthu is a beautiful resort, The rooms are new, modern and very clean. Shampoo and body wash are provided along with robes. There is no coffee machine in the rooms however, they make excellent coffee at the Lobby Bar. Staff were wonderful and always had a smile for us. Service in the buffet was great. We had eggs 4 out of the 7 days. There was quite a selection of food although it was basically the same offering (beef [... read more], stewed lamb, chicken and pork) every day at lunch and dinner. Very few spices were used. For the most part just salt and pepper. The beach was outstanding. There was no seaweed and beautiful white sand. The only complaint that I have is that in order to get a shelter on the beach you had to place a towel on your chairs before 7am. It would be nice if the staff on the beach upheld the rule of not reserving chairs. Bar service is very good at the beach. It is a larger resort so there is some walking to and from the beach. Roberto who is part of the animation team took two of us on a tour of the local area. We went to a farm and a primary school. Roberto is an excellent guide. He shares the Cuban history, life and language with enthusiasm. We tripped in Canadian $'s. Although we tipped using loonies and toonies the Cuba people then have to ask you if you will exchange the coins for bills....the bills need to be pristine or the bank will not take them. Our departing flight was in the evening. We were able to book a shower room not far from guest services. I would recommend this resort.

Good clean resort , service great , coffee great , bar service good , . Food shortage increased 6 years ago , no condiments , days no bread , eggs , no butter , yogurt , milk , . Always chicken and pork , vegetables ok , just make the best of what you have for 1 week ?

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Honest Review

Here’s the good, the bad, and the ugly… The good: beach is stunning and some of the best snorkeling right off the beach I’ve seen! So many fish and was amazing! Beach is clean, beach bar was the highlight for beverages and service! Chairs are all plastic (not the ones with any blue fabric on them) so bring an inflatable to lay on for better comfort. But the soups were good, if you eat soup when it’s 40 out lol. Occasionally we would randomly have no water in the room to shower, flush toilet, or anything and never had warning. We stayed in the main building but some club members were days with no water and told to use the gym to shower. The wifi was free and better than I expected but still spotty in lobby and general areas. I had no issues with it in the room. The beds were comfortable, cleaning didn’t happen till after 4pm or later and that was a pain by then it’s rest and shower for dinner but the cleaners would show up. We ended up only getting a cleaning twice because of their timing but they gave us fresh towels and such when we asked. Beach towels they say you can exchange them, they only had towels one day of 7 to exchange. I have seen so many people return many many times to this resort and I’m not sure why to be honest. It was nice, staff were ok but not typical Cuban friendly in my experience. Seems like many were newer and I have experienced better service in other Cuban resorts. The pool bar was open twice only during our stay, and they ran out of many alcoholic drinks and it was only rum, beer, and some wine but not always. Glad we went, we have some locals we have got to know over the years but we won’t return to this resort. The main pool layout was nice, beach entrance and I enjoyed that. The man working the pool area worked so hard to keep it clean!
