Great Resourt

the resourt was very nice, with nice beaches and pools, you have to pick and choose what food you like but for the most part it was good. i liked how the rooms are all seperate little villas. and they are generous with pooring drinks. i would go back.

Had a GREAT TIME!

This resort was very clean and the rooms were very nicely decorated. The beds weren't the most comfortable for me, but my husband had no problem with them. The food at the breakfast buffet was the good, lunch and dinner buffet not the greatest. (but then you don't go to Cuba for the food). The Italian restaurant was the best out of the three al la carte. The best coffee, was Mike's Coffee shop. The cappuccinos and frozen coffees were excellent. The ladies that run the shop were always very pleas [... read more]ant and welcoming. The beach and the pool simply amazing. The staff were all very nice and helpful. Good night life at the lobby bar and the shows were always nice to watch. With all said and done, I would go back to this resort, great time and great resort.

our best cuba vacation so far.... great resort, very friendly staff, great choice of food.. pools are too shallow. beach and sea awesome, very hot water and nice waves afternoon. large choice of alchoholic drinks, not only Cuban. deffinitelly will go again :)

Unbelievable and would go again.

The buffet was amazing. Yes. It still is Cuba food, but the best ever. I've been more than 7/times in 3 years and this was truly the best. The restaurants...not so much. In fact I suggest you stick to the buffet. The rooms are exactly like the pics. The people are of course so friendly. We will be going back.

Amazing Resort

Hi, I stayed at Ocean Varadero El Patriarca from July 18-July 22 This is my first visit to Cuba, I wasn't sure of what to expect because of negitive reviews I had heard from food, to documents required, and the neseccities eg toilet paper being unavaliable. But regardless I had to see for my self. I am so glad I did. This resort had it all!! The grounds grounds were kept clean and tidy. Our rooms were cleaned on a daily. We had fresh towels and our fridge restocked on daily basis (never an issue). The food was also very tasty from grilled meats and fish to make your own pasta. Always a selection to choose from for every taste buds.. You have to remember it is a buffet and all inclusive so it does become repetitive but its no different to any other resorts I have been as far as quality and taste. They also have a coffee bar to die for. I was there every morning at 7.00 sharp to pick up my cappicino which I took back to my room to enjoy on my balcony with the sun beaming down on me and take in the beauty of it all. Rosy at Mikes coffee bar was a joy to see early in the morning with her beautiful warm smile. Also mid afternoon when the sun was scorching it was nice to go to Mikes for a refreshing cold latte, smoothy or whatever I fancied that day to cool off. The beach was small but clean and beautiful as well. Not that bad with seaweed or broken seashells as I had read in past reviews. The water felt like you were in a huge bathtub. So calm and tranquillizing. You could see the bottom of the ocean and had alot of non-motorized water activites for you to do. My favorite was bringing bread and feeding it to the fish they just swam right to your hand. Now the staff I cannot say enough. The people in Cuba really live on nothing and yet they are so humble. They are so accomadating, friendly and warm. Really make you feel at home. From reception. staff at pool , bars, to garden maintenace always willing to give you a smile, hello, or engage in conversation with you. The only reason I graded this resort a 4.5 is the nightly entertainment. They have a nightly show and a piano bar(but the piano bar is quite small so you have to get there pretty early to get a seat) there is no engaging with the touriests in games and activites such as kareokee or dancing in the lobby like i am accustomed to. I would have liked to have more of this but it is such a minimal request that it did not tamper with my reviews of this beautiful,modern, and stylish resort at all. I hope this review was helpful to making your decision next time you visit Cuba. Well worth it!!!!!

A great Resort that you want to be in

This was my second year staying at El patriarca. Last year I stayed there for 10 days in June and this year again in June for 7 days. The staff recognized me as soon as I checked in. I was given a previlege suit for no extra charge. That was truly appreciated.my apartment was overlooking the ocean and could spend hours in the evening and early morning to sit on the balcony on the second floor reading. I have been to most of the carribean resorts , Cuba gives me more pleasure to visit again and again.

Great Resort

Excellent beach/rooms/staff, food was very good. Open a la carte dinning is what we look for at resorts and the Patriarca is the only one in Cuba that offers this option. The General Manager is always out and about talking to the guests and all staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Excellent First Time Stay

Travelled with my mother, June 15-22, 2014. 6th trip to Cuba but 1st time at this resort. Beautiful resort, as shown on the photo's. Great modern rooms, nice décor, clean and loved the separate shower and bath. Grounds are nice and well maintained. Great beach, beach bar and nice beach restaurant. Beach beds could do with a bit of an upgrade, many broken and have to hunt a bit to find one that's not broken. Not a deal breaker but given this is a new resort a bit surprising. Particularly enjoyed [... read more] Mikes Coffee bar, great selection of coffees - fantastic cappuccinos! The Piano bar looked fun and always busy. Food was very good for Cuba, always able to find something to eat. Service was a bit hit and miss in the restaurants and the inability to make reservations for the a la carte restaurants was unusual and a bit annoying. Entertainment shows in the evening were enjoyable enough, however during the day seemed a bit lacking compared to other resorts. Overall, an excellent resort, great facilities and fairly priced. I would definitely return to this resort.

Work in progress

Except for the large cactus tree there is nothing at the resort grounds you would ask your friend did they see. After been given a room with twin beds by mistake 2 night later we were moved to Bloque 65 for a room with a king size bed. The main housekeeper for this section was lacking skills. It seemed that she never cleaned the dust mop from one unit to another, which resulted in our room floor being dirtier and full of black hairs after she was finished. There was a beautiful rain shower in th [... read more]e bathroom however half of the holes were plugged and the bath was so scratched it could not be used. The vanity area as well as the TV shelf were full of small spiders, twice the room was sprayed put they were there again the next day. Finally when getting it done a third time it was noticed that the closet was never done. Spiders were all over the top shelf so once sprayed problem was solved. From the girls at Mike’s Café, the gardeners and the buffet crew, especially Naylet our day was filled with pure relaxation.

Awesome Resort - Did not Disappoint !!!

This is my first trip to Cuba. Stayed at this resort from July 5 to 12, 2014. The property which is around 2 years new is simply fabulous-modern, clean, eco-friendly, beautifully landscaped with a well-thought out design. The room is very nice with a separate bathtub and shower cubicle, spacious closet space and amenities (but face towel is not one of them). It affords lots of privacy and is very quiet. The beach with its white sand and warm turquoise water is simply wonderful. The staff is very nice and attentive. Nightly entertainment is good and so are the water activities i.e. pedal boat, catamaran ride, etc. As for the life jackets-there are far too many broken or damaged ones that need replacing. The theatre can certainly benefit from a few ceiling fans as it is quite warm if you are seated in the middle of the theatre. The buffet is the best of all the restaurants. Very good selection with 3 cooking stations, impressive presentation and tasty... even the picky eater is sure to find something there that will please them. The a la carte restaurants are mediocre, with nice decor and beautiful food presentation. This resort does not have the best currency exchange rates compared to the other nearby resorts. Overall had an amazing good time!

Truly Amazing!

We had a truly amazing time, everyone was so nice. The beach was beautiful and the rooms were clean, the entertainment staff were very fun! The ladies in the buffet were also very nice and helpful. The boys had an amazing time in the bar thanks to Jerry and everyone else.

Nice place

Fairly big resort. Lots of walking which is good because of all the great food they had to offer. Loved the coffee shop with the outstanding baristas. Walk for miles on the beach. Good clean resort. Took the local bus into varadaro for 2 bucks.

Lovely Resort

My Mother and I stayed for our BIG birthdays in February. We had a lovely time and both found the resort to be very clean and well looked after. The staff were amazing! We loved everyone and they treated us very well. The food was not very good but I don't think the food is ever very good in Cuba. The a la carte restaurants were not to our taste so we ate at the buffet which had a lot of variety. It was my Mom's birthday while we were there and the staff made her feel really special. I ordered f [... read more]lowers from the concierge and they were gorgeous! My Mom keeps asking when are we going back! She loved it and is looking forward to the next trip.

Amazing resort

Great resort. Beautiful, layout is very well thought out. Rooms modern and clean. Food, well it's Cuba, don't expect much. Beach is really nice. Polls are good. Entertainment is great on nights. Make sure to go to Michael Jackson show. We stayed with large group of 30 people and everyone loved it. Drinks are good. Try the Mikes Café.

amazing resort for cuba.. so modern and clean.. buffet was a bit small but was still good. beach was not varedero perfect but was still very nice. grounds were kept nice. bars were unbelievable with premium brands and great service

Great for the price

Overall good. Rooms very nice and clean. Be aware of really big bugs. We had them every night so make sure you leave your lights on when you are not in your room (we made mistake of shutting them). Our friends in another room never had any and told us they left all the lights on every night. Unfortunately we didn't figure this out until the end. Buffet was ok. Some nights good other nights mediocre. A la carte restaurants weren't good and hard to get a table . We were a group of 6 and had a hard [... read more] time getting a table to accommodate us. Mike's coffee bar is amazing. Both hot and cold coffees. The ladies working there are the best. Beach was perfect. Wasn't busy during our stay so lots of palapas available on the beach. They don't offer free wifi, you have to buy a card for access and only available in the lobby.

Ocean Varadero El Patriarca

I'm not much for writing or reading but reviews on hotels I like to visit, I do pay attention and yes, you can't believe everything you read. Never went south in June but my friends visiting us from Europe liked the idea of 3 hr flight and you are in Cuba, nice. It was a beautiful display of colors on shrubs and trees touring Varadero on a double decker bus, you don't see this during winter trips. I don't want to forget the bars, we had fun in the lobby, beach and aqua bar. I do believe the saying 1 tequila, 2 tequilas, 3 tequilas floor is correct, I wasn't that bad but slept like a baby. On the day of my brothers (from another mother) birthday (good friend from Austria) we had nice cake with a candle in the Italian a la Carte restaurant with lights down and singing happy birthday, he enjoyed the moment, especially a kiss from the waitress. We like to say a special thank you to Yaremis and Liberto at the aqua bar, it was wet on the outside and they kept us cool on the inside and to Gricel our maid in bungalow 31 for putting up with me and to all the staff in restaurants, bars, beach and lobby, I can't remember all your names but Gracias. It's all positive on the hotel except some tourists, not mentioning any specific country like Canada for all places. I like to thank the people in bungalow 31 for hinging a provincial flag, that helped me to find my room but not for the noise and mess you left behind over night. Amazing beach

The grounds were well maintained, the buffets were less then desirable, the beach was beautiful, the towel service was inconvenient. The staff was friendly. The room was clean, we had a lot of little aunts in bathroom but other then that the trip was excellent....beautiful hot weather.

Great way to spend 5 years with my girlfriend!

The hotel, grounds, rooms, restaurants and other amenities were absolutely spectacular. Had SO much fun. Rooms were constantly made up for us and fridge re-stocked with drinks. Bars were great - pool was great. Swim up bar was great. Staff were very friendly and two in particular became our favourites. The maid who took care of our rooms and the waitress who saved a table for us every day at the buffet. We had an absolute blast. The A la carte restaurants were delicious for a 1st timer, but havi [... read more]ng visited them several times each I would note that there wasn't much more to try other than the few limited items. The buffet varied slightly from meal to meal, but the breakfast buffet was our favourite BY FAR. We woke up every day for breakfast because it was so delicious. The beach was great and very close to the resort. Mike's Coffee was a great little place for drinks. The shows each night were very fun as well - we saw as many as we could. We had a great time.
