Catalonia Playa Maroma: Great Hotel - Reasonably priced
Just came back from a 7 night stay at this resort and were extremely pleased with this hotel. The room was great, service was wonderful and food excellent. Our hotel room was situated close to the pool (we upgraded to privileged), a la carte restaurants and beach. We did all all the a la carte restaurants except for the Mexican as it was closed the night we decided to try it. As a side note, one restaurant is closed each night - we never knew which one until we got there (not sure if you can[... read more] obtain this information at the front desk?). There was very little wait to get into these restaurants ........... the most we waited was 20 minutes. We did the buffet 2-3 times and was very impressed by the food selection.
The beach was beautiful but did have seaweed. That didn't stop us - we are from the east coast and most of our beaches have sea weed. The waves were great - plenty of loungers and palm trees for shade.
Used the pool of couple of times - had to get there early to find 4 seats together with umbrellas. We prefer the beach so did not mind if there was not enough loungers for us.
There is a great juice bar and creperie near the pool & beach. In addition to crepes, the creperie also served banana splits and milkshakes. Needless to say, we were there several times!
We did one excursion which included repelling down ceynote, ziplining, canoeing and vising the Mayan temple at Coba - highly recommended but is a full day adventure. We booked this at the hotel for about $130.00 USD each. Also took a cab into Playa del Carmen for an afternoon which was very nice.
My only suggestion to hotel management would be more fans in buffet & lobby area. I usually don't mind the heat but it was uncomfortable at times while eating or having a drink in the lobby.
Alcohol is only served until 11:00 pm - this wasn't an issue for us but may be for some.
We loved this hotel and can't say enough about the service we received. I would recommend to anyone.

Riu Tequila: Amazing resort!
This was our second time staying at this resort (pre and post renovations) and it definitely lives up to its 5 star rating (and I have stayed at more than 8 Mexican 5 star resorts.) The grounds are spotless, the food is unbelievably incredible (the best I have ever had) and the beach is breathtaking (the short 5-7 minute walk is relaxing and beautiful, or you can catch a shuttle that takes 1 minute). The rooms are nice, modern, clean and cold. The fridge always stocked daily. the only concern w[... read more]ith the room was that there were many mosquitoes inside the room everyday/night (my room and my families room). I think they were entering through the vents. It was definitely an issue, however we did not contact management and had we done so they probably would have moved us to a new location. We stayed at the very end building in the 2600. Other than that, everything was perfect. The night life entertainment was great! Staff was very kind and accommodating. The dining dress code is a little strict. I highly recommend this resort and we will definitely be back for a third time!

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Paradise At The Princess
What a beautiful resort! This was our first ever stay at an all-inclusive, and it did not disappoint. The staff were kind, friendly, and attentive. The pool bars were lively and exciting, with lots of fun activities and great music. The rooms were spacious and very clean. And the food at the individual restaurants was amazing - we especially loved La Bruschetta (buffets left a bit to be desired but were still enjoyable). We would definitely go back again!
(Note: Yes. As the other reviews hav[... read more]e mentioned, there was an immense amount of seaweed on the beach, which meant we couldn't really enjoy it. However, we feel that this did not detract from our overall stay since A) we knew about it going in and set our expectations accordingly, b) it is literally not within their control, and c) they worked tirelessly to try to clean it up.)

Dreams Jade Resort and Spa: Wouldn't rate a 4.5 star or 4
Hotel extremely clean. Staff alright.
Heres the real deal.....
Internet is shit. Like pure shit. It only works directly in your room and cuts off the minute you step into the hallway.
Main Buffet no air conditioning. We were dripping every meal. It was hard to even eat warm food....the didnt even open any of the glass windows for a breeze even...
Also Halls and entryways/main room, Sports TV ROOMS nothing. NO a/c. Only in your room sleeping is any AC.
Room service takes one and hal[... read more]f hours for food ordered at any time of the day. They only had hot dog. Hamburgers. Salads and fries.
We arrived on Tuesday and the resort was medium to full until fri 2 wedding parties arrived. So from fri til Tuesday the hotel was PACKED. One wedding was for 150 people. I dont mind noise or loudeness but it made service EXTREMELY slow for everything. Pool ran out of towels constantly. If you get sun burned the towels in room are like horrible white sandpaper despite being washed thousands of times. Thank god i brought my own towels.
I got a horrible rash from walking wet on an excusion and needed Polysporin and a patch/medical tape. I called front desk for a med kit and they brought me a bandaid. Bring your own stuff medically. And bring med tape in case a bandaid wont cover open wounds/sores. Mexico in general was HOT in Apr/May. Like 35+Celcius and above. Plus wet moist heat. NOT dry heat.
The nightclub was BRUTAL. It played horrible 90s hip hop so out of date we went twice and left immediately...its def a family resort. And partying in a city is more than 30 mins away so an hour or more in mexican traffic one way.
IF YOU ARE DISABLED MENTION IT WHEN CHECKING IN. I saw so many people limping from the pool and restaurants down the long halls past buildings 3 and 4 exhausted from the heat. Its a 10 min walk to your room each time from building 3 and building 4 or farther is a 15 walk from front desk/amenities and 5 mins from middle pool. Also no elevators. So anything other than 1st floor is stairs galore.

Grand Sunset Princess: Beautiful Resort
This resort is beautiful and very large. My room was in the middle of the resort and it took me 1000 steps to get to the lobby or to the beach, for step fanatics this is the perfect resort. The beach area was a little less desirable as it was loaded with seaweed. The resort would try to clean the seaweed in the mornings but they never really had a handle on it. Staff said it was due to global warming and another staff said it was coming from Brazil. I did a search on it and its a known probl[... read more]em in the Golf of Mexico extending to Florida, real cause is speculations. I also asked people at other resorts and they had the same problem, which they did. There are lots of pools on the resort so you have the choice of a busy or quiet pool. The food was good and always had something for everyone, a little disappointed there wasn't a taco hut on the resort being in Mexico and all. The buffet food and beach snack bar really cater to American food, authentic Mexican food is on Thursdays in the buffets, you don't want to miss. For your a la cart restaurant you need to visit Miso and do the teppanyaki grill you won't be disappointed. The Chill Out Grill is an extra charge but worth it if you want authentic Mexican food I would recommend going for the lunch.Staff are very friendly and not over bearing, single women don't have to worry about male staff hitting on them. Prices off the resort are the same as on the resort.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: One of the greatest time in my life
I went to this hotel to celebrate a friends wedding. Unfortunately for me I wasn’t able to book the same nights off as the rest of the party, so I would arrive two days earlier; alone.
Luckily though I still had an incredible time because not only of the amazing staff helping me out, but also the guests were also very friendly. I probably had a better time my first nights than I did with the wedding guests. I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.
¡Viva Mexico!

Barcelo Maya Caribe: A 5 Star Resort in our opinion, with so many options that you don't have to leave the resort!
We can't wait to go back!!!
We were there from April 21st to 28th, it wasn't overly busy but even if it was, it's so big that it would accommodate. We booked through Trip Central, they were very helpful & we're already saving to return anytime next year!
We've been to several resorts all over & the Barcelo Maya Caribe is now our favourite! The water park has certain things for adults which we'll try next time we go & they have a sports bar called Strikers that has a bowling alley & we'd go t[... read more]here to watch the hockey games during the playoffs & have a little snack, so fun!
It's an incredible resort with so much to do that you really don't have to leave the resort & pay for other excursions. We paid to go snorkeling & it was a fun day doing other things with the tour, however the snorkeling outside of The Palace is better than what we paid for & we just had to walk down the beach.
The resort is super clean, the grounds are very well kept & the food was amazing, again with several options of where you can eat. We enjoyed the Mexican & Japanese restaurants the most. The staff are all very friendly but some of them had a hard time understanding us when we tried talking to them. Not a problem by any means, we just learned to keep it simple so it was much easier for them & for us. Especially when we had too many frozen drinks down by the water, lol.
The rooms were also clean & the fridge was stocked daily. We read reviews about the rooms needing to be updated but they served their purpose with a comfortable bed & a hot shower. We weren't there to be in the room all day!
The beach was also amazing, never having to fight for a chair or wake up early to put our towel on a couple chairs to hold them. You can walk for miles & the sand was like silk on our feet.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Not what we expected....
We decided to splurge on this trip, spend more than we normally do and definitely wanted an adults only for our last trip as a couple before baby arrives. Big mistake.
The hotel looks nice in pictures but once one takes a better look you will soon realize you paid too much for the resort.
ROOM: Our room apon arrival was dirty. The floors were poorly mopped as i was stepping on sand and crumbs. There was blood on the bath tub for the our entire trip, meaning the really just do a surface clean[... read more] even when there is a new visitor. Our Jacuzzi didn't work but they did come fix it asap. When we arrived we didn't have a room service menu so we called down to ask for one. No one came. Tried again with a call, once again no one came. Third call was placed and finally someone brought the menu to find out later it was the wrong menu and we could not order from that menu.
HOTEL ATMOSPHERE: We didn't spend anytime at the pools on the resort because there was never any chairs available not to mention they were pretty boring. We couldn't use the beach because of the amount of seaweed that they don't clean. Very limited options at the buffet for any meal and quality was OK. They didn't replenish often enough so you would stand and wait.
The a la carts were really good. We did the steak house x2 and the Italian x2. We also tried the Japanese, the show was fun. Quality of food was amazing. The only thing is that you have to wear pants to the a la carts which was never told to us. I didn't pack any pants for my fiance well because its a hot climate! We argued with Charlie in concierge who was honestly no help at all. He just further irritated me by offering pants they lend out in situations like this. I refused because in my opinion its unhygienic, I don't know who has worn them and when its been washed. We ended up taking a cab to playa del carmen and buying a pair of pants at old navy. Don't be forced into purchasing anything at their stores on the resort. So overly priced its ridiculous.
We spent majority of our time at the sister resorts which had better entertainment, buffet options/quality and more things to do. It was more lively as well. Don't waste your money on this resort when you will have a better time paying cheaper at the sister resorts.
I don't appreciate being told what I can and cannot wear to a restaurant considering the amount of money I've spent to be here.
You had men wearing house pants and ratty sneakers but yet you cant wear ironed khaki shorts with a golf shirt.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Beautiful Resort
The buffet near the infinity pool was very good, excellent service. Rooms in this section nice, clean. Staff were all very friendly, provided excellent service.
A la carte restaurants all good - the Italian restaurant the best!
Liked going to the different sections of the Bahia resort, but not enough time to explore everything. The kids (young adults) enjoyed the disco at La Hacienda. The entertainment was good. We enjoyed the shows in our own section and didn't need to go far to see the show.[... read more]

Unico 20 87 Hotel Riviera Maya: Unico 20 87 - Showing signs of disrepair Apr 2019 - only 2 years old
The hotel is a premium brand and is positioned in the marketplace as such. However the hotel management has allowed the property to fall into a state of disrepair.
1) Tufted button covers on the couches in the front lobby reception area have fallen off in a number of locations on several pieces of furniture.
2) Large pieces of porcelain tiles surrounding quiet pool areas have broken off as a result of poor support underneath. The resulting area is sharp and can cut your feet.
3) A l[... read more]arge piece of stonework has fallen off the building overlooking the quiet pool.
4) Several pieces of decking in the 20 87 restaurant have warped and are now sitting above the level of the surrounding decking making this a tripping hazard.
5) Parts of the crushed stone finish inside the hot tub near the quiet pool have separated from the floor leaving two large unfinished sharp edge areas.
6) A huge part of the crushed stone finish has become dislodged in the quiet pool making this an unlevel area that can be a hazard for your feet.
7) Snaps that hold down the pool lounge chair cushions have broken off rendering them useless.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Incredible Resort!
Had such an amazing Time at this resort, everything was incredible from the food to the service and the events offered at night! I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay during my trip to Mexico! The resort was even kind enough to give me a discount for an extra night because of my flight being canceled. Everything was incredible! The worst part about it is that you won’t want to go back home!
