Melia Cayo Coco: Number One in our books

Melia Cayo Coco has now become our second home. We have met so many wonderful people and have many new friends with the staff. This resort is like a family and they treat you this way. The food, rooms and grounds are fantastic and we can wait to go back next year. This resort is 5+ in our books.

Hotel Mojito: Clean, well maintained

Resort was well maintained. Cleaning ladies did a great job, even pulled beds out from the wall to clean under. Always fresh towels when requested. Entertainment staff very friendly. Loved Andy. Nightly shows typical of a resort. Drinks were good, fast service. Pools were clean. Food was good but needs more variety. Same things offered for breakfast and lunch everyday and supper seemed to be on a week rotation. The "snack bar" was hamburgs, hotdogs, fries, sandwich, pizza. No where to get an ac [... read more]tual snack. Ladies at the front desk we not friendly at all. Hated having to ask a question. The beach staff was friendly and helpful with putting chairs where you wanted them. Beach was beautiful however it was a long walk to get to. A lagoon separated the resort from the beach so you walk on a long dock (10mins) to get there.

Melia Cayo Coco: Best Resort

The resort is small and comfortable. The staff very friendly and helpful, their favourite word is yes. The rooms are lovely and clean as is all the resort and especially the bathrooms. Good entertainment in the evenings and many activities during the day. We will be going back again next year.

Melia Jardines del Rey: The good and the not so good

This resort is pretty large so lots of walking. There are shuttles but they don't run on a regular schedule. The lobby is awesome and the entertainment (woodwind quintet, vocal groups and good bands) is really good if you know where to find it. Over one area of the bar is a television screen which tells you what's happening. We didn't find this until day 3! Check in ran smoothly but no map of the grounds was included with our keys. Signage is lacking so it was easy to get lost. The food w [... read more]as average for Cuba. The specialty restaurants were mediocre; for example the gnocchi at the Italian restaurant was shell pasta. I should have known better. Absolutely beautiful beach (take all your stuff, it's a hike) with a restaurant and bar. The restaurant is open for breakfast too. Lots of chairs and shade areas. Coral as you walk out in the water so be careful but a great sandbar about 50' out which was lovely. Room set up is odd. Either a king bed and walk in shower and a sofa or twin beds, pull out couch and a bathtub. I'm short, I had to climb in. My parents wanted twin beds and the walk in shower. No dice. Weird. Mosquitoes. OMG What can I say? We were eaten alive despite the property being fogged often. Ladies, don't bother bringing perfume, just use bug spray. We put a towel against our door to keep them out. Bring OFF as the Cuban bug spray is expensive and ineffective. The staff was very nice all over the resort. I was disappointed in the coffee. It was hit and miss depending on where you were but I've always found Cuban coffee really good. This wasn't. You get what you pay for and this was an inexpensive getaway. We were at the Pullman, Cayo Coco in November and had a much better experience.

Melia Cayo Coco: Fun and Sun

We loved our vacation at this resort. The staff are so friendly and courteous, we felt immediately at home. Food was good, rooms were comfortable, and we enjoyed the cosy atmosphere. We took part in many of the activities and enjoyed the entertainment.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: The girls hit Memories Flamenco

I spent a week at Flamenco with my two daughters (13 & 15 years old). We had a great week, room was clean and very well taken care of over the week, staff was generally very friendly and I found it easy to have answers to any questions, the food was perfectly ok and a lot of variety, despite hearing that the buffet was not great. We a;; burnt out on it after 6 days but all in all, it was better than I thought. The pools were a delight, swim up bar, my first experience with that, was fun and  [... read more]easy, great morning latte's, gardeners, two in particular, were thoughtful and engaging and we got daily fresh coconuts to sip on to rehydrate.... I missed seeing and being part of local Cuban community because Cayo Coco is strictly a resort island but had some sense of locals by having good conversations with a number of the staff. Really lovely bunch of folks. I wasn't always very clear on when to tip or not tip but you sort of figure that out as you go and I didn't feel any particular pressure to do so. We did a 1 day excursion on a catamaran and that was fabulous! The clear water is surreal and temperature was lovely and refreshing! My girls and I left feeling that we had had a really good vacation, made some great connections with staff, had great laughs and lots of relaxation.

Melia Costa Rey: P-U-L-L-M-A-N CAYO COCO

P restine - U ltimate fun - L eisure - L avishing - M edley - A ttractions - N oble Prestine - The Hotel, Grounds, and landscaping are all remarkable. Still all very new and lovely. In a few years this place will be Beautiful as the bushes, tress, plants etc. all blossom and develop. This hotel is very clean kudos to the cleaning staff keep up the great work. The pool areas is to die for nice touch having multiple pools. One negative would be none of the pools are heated. But the pool with the pool bar should be heated maybe a future install for the winter months, you may get more involvement with pool activities. Our room 42106 was very adequate clean, tidy, and neat. We had a KING SIZE BED comfortable enough for vacation. Very modern set-up and clean. The bathroom window or shutter wouldn't close. Which brought some much need entertainment for me and the wife one day as we tried to close it. Our TV could have been bigger but we didn't really watch it as we didn't stay in the room that much. The construction next door as they are building another unit was fair and the noise was kept down to a minimal. only woke us up one day out of 7. I'm glad they continue to evolve this place. We are not light sleepers so didn't impact us. The Gourmet Restaurant a - la - cart at the adults only section was great. Thank you to the Hotel and staff for making my wife's Birthday extra special. The Champagne bottle was a nice touch and a good start to our night. Ultimate fun - From the first day we arrive we have a great time. The entertainment staff are excellent. Our personal favorites were Jimmy & Renee. That's all the names I can remember at this time. The activities all day long by the pool were very fun. We even managed to WIN a certificate as a lazy game winner. The pool table and tournament at 3pm was very enjoyable. That has nothing to do with winning a bottle of rum. The foam party was so fun MY wife and I have never experienced anything like it. An extra special thank you to Jimmy for dancing and singing Happy Birthday to my wife Monday night at the show. We had a great time. The night club is very nice but never used. We recommend that the Hotel Theme to the people who are attending at that time. I.e. Oldies night or different era's etc. We noticed an older crowd so if you cater to them as another place for dancing I believe the guests would use it more. Maybe change up the theme night to night. Friday - Rock Saturday- Oldies Sunday-Soul train etc. Leisure - this place is great for relaxing no hassling, time share, or pan handlers on the beach trying to sell you something. Relaxing is what we did and you'll get to do, either by the pool or the beach. So many chairs to go around you didn't have to wake up early to reserve. A very nice added touch on the beach was that they had a guy who will get your chair if needed. As they stack them nightly to preserve and keep the beach clean and uncluttered. The beach is just incredible clean and great for walking which we did every day. We walked all the way down to the rocks and deserted hotel only to find another beach strip to the left. It was very enchanting and nice for pictures. Depending on water level very nice for pictures, seeing fish, and staying in warm water. Very quiet and Majestic for walking. Loving - Can't say enough about the people. They are great! Amazing, friendly, and loving. From the people we met to all of the staff they took care of us as if we were family. The bartenders just awesome! The weight staff at the buffet. The chefs making our Pasta and meat so friendly and genuine. We didn't have a problem with even one person. Some people take it for granted but for a bunch of people who travel at least an hour to and from work by bus they are all very kind, respectful, happy go lucky. If you happen to run into a bad person or had a bad experience I say give them a MULLIGAN it's got to be tough on them. It's not like you never have a bad day! Medley - The buffet had variety! The food for Cuba is above average. Italian lovers they threated us with some good pasta all week. YES! They have PARMESAN CHEESE. The prosciutto was a surprise treat we found. The Cappicola, Mortadella, Salamis and fresh bread every day was excellent. The Porchetta and meat was very good prepared the way you like. I kept it simple salt, pepper, and garlic oil. Lots of salads artichoke, mixed vegetables, beets etc. They did have salads available you had to make it yourself. Yes they had olive oil, balsamic or red wine vinegar available. The only negative would be your CLASSIC SALADS are missing the Caesar or Garden. I recommend that Pullman put in a nice A la carte ITALIAN restaurant. It could replace the CREOLE! I'm not a fan. The Japanese restaurant was neat and fun! You have to try it. You won't be disappointed or starve. ATTRACTIONS - We went on two tours. One was the Cuban tour. We went to the city of Moron. Our guide and bus driver Alex were just awesome. I'll tell you one thing for sure. I wouldn't want to drive on the coors way or roads in Cuba. Minimal lighting, guard rails etc. u may be swimming in the ocean if you had a bad accident. Back to the tour. If you enjoy a horse and carriage ride, Pina colada,with natural ingredients, speed boat ride, and last but not least people watching and seeing how the locals live. you will enjoy this tour. The Sunset Cruise or boat ride. Was not for us. The Cuban sunset was beautiful and we met some really nice people. but other than that not much to see. Its your typical swamp scenery but on a lake! Let's not mention the flat boat and almost being decapitated by the bridge depending on water levels. The tour guides were fun and exciting they tried really hard to make something out of nothing. It was calm and relaxing boat ride if your fan of that. The nightly entertainment and Dancer were fun! We enjoyed the shoes and many bands that played all over the resort. It's nice to have options and get good entertainment. Noble - The Pullman resort is a must stay (5 star rating guaranteed). They must maintain and try to keep improving the base principle, values, and hospitality they have set -up. We will definitely return to Cuba! I had a bad experience in Santiago Cuba last year but this place has changed my mind about Cuba. Last but not least. I have to send a shout out to The AQUA pool bar and most importantly OMELIO and the other bartenders. My favorite location that was serving me Cerveza's. shots, and Havana club 7 year dark Cuban rum in all my drinks. He is definitely a brother to me. made me feel great and took care of me all week. He made our stay much enjoyable! The cigar shop and bar was very nice and a must see. I can't forget JOSE our CHURRIO guy. Man we love those CHURRIO'S!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: worth what we paid

The food was typical Cuba food. Not much changed day to day on the buffet. Did not do ala Cartes. Beach is fantastic always chairs and helpful attendants. No rocks, you dont need water shoes, bring your snorkels for the calmer days. Pool chairs are harder to find if you wait to save one. The lack of toilet paper in all public washrooms was concerning. I brought kleenex with me everywhere and needed it 9 out of 10 times. Everyone was disgusted with how little care was taken in all the washrooms.( [... read more]except our own room). Maids did a very nice job on our room.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Nice R & R Trip to Tryp

Hello everyone you may have seen my review about going to Tryp Cayo Coco. Well we went the week of Feb 15 to Feb 23 upon arriving we had a bottle of Rum for us in the room with a personal welcome letter. We were invited to view future prototype room which they are hoping to get 180 of the 580 rooms done within the next 3 years. It's Cuba and they don't work fast. But with that said when they have these rooms done it will be beautiful. Stunning new rooms. Decorated really really nice and clea [... read more]n light colors and fancy wall art about the bed. So something to look forward to. We were also invited to a private lunch and entertainment which was really nice. Met other people who have been there as many times as 26 times. They get a VIP treatment to say the least. So we arrived and of course the people are so friendly and easy going they do love the Canadians as most of this resort has Canadians. We met a couple of super nice people from down east. We have emails to keep in touch. The al a cartes are better than the buffet, when we went to the buffet 7 years ago there was such an abundance of food it was wonderful. This time I found the buffet to be a little more sparse, last time they had turkey, chicken etc. Still lots to choose just short on chicken this time. Beef is not something that Cuba has a lot of and what they do have is usually tuffer than we are use to here. They did have a lot of pork this time which was very good. They did have bacon almost everyday but it is never anywhere near being cooked properly, so we would get that first and take it to the guy doing the eggs and he would out it in the grill and cook it for you. That was great because then it would be nice and hot and cooked properly. I also wish they would just get regular 4 slice toasters as the toaster ovens they have just warm the bread even if you put it on slow and send it through 3 or 4 times. Something they should look into. There breads are amazing, they are really good and don't have a pile of preservatives in it. My husband usually can't eat bread but he can eat there's with no problems. Also butter is more like a lard so if you really like butter try and take the little packets down with you. So book your al a cartes we went to steak house as well as oriental both very good. And loved our waiters/waitress. Always make you feel very welcome. The beach of course is always super. They actually use a tractor every morning to sift the sand and clean it. Ocean is spectacular we swam everyday. Not deep for quite a ways and beautiful sugary sand. Walked to the market that's about a 10 Mjn. walk and totally safe. There are bicycle to use if you like. Cayo coco doesn't have very much traffic so safe out in the main road. We took the bus tour that sunwings rep said was 2 hours well FYI it's 2 hours one way stopping at all resorts on the way there and on the way back. Spent 1 hour at Pilar Beach, which is small but very pretty. So we were gone from 10 am till 330 so way too long when you were told it was only 2 hours. I don't recommend it. Also if you do go on it and are sitting up top watch for branches hitting you and don't stand up at resorts as one man hit his head really hard and was hurt from Resort over hang. We had a Updated room in building 11 which gave us an ocean view which was really nice. I see people complaining about hot water well I actually don't think they have hot hot water it was always Luke warm no matter the time of day. It was ok to shower with. My hair dryer didn't work In the room and I didn't mention it but they had sent someone to fix it and I thought that was great. Our Chambermaid was such a sweet lady we didn't tip her everyday but she still made fancy things for us and some with flowers. Really nice. She always did the floor which is a pet peeve of mine as I hate sand on my feet and then drag it into bed. So she was awesome. Anything I asked for she would have asap soaps water etc. perfect. We will go back to Tryp again down the road as I really do like the resort and people. The entertainment was really good they actually did many of the shows in English which is great because this way you understand. They still need to have the announcer speak English as he says everything in Spanish and we have no clue what he is saying at hundred miles an hour. Lost in translation. Lol The resort is a bit dated and most of the lights worked around the resort just a few were out. The balcony light comes on at night and goes off before daylight. My one concern is the poor cats. I love animals and although they are being feed by many people visiting the resort. I wish they would actually have some cat food for them. Most people didn't mind the cats as they dont jump on tables and are very friendly. They donsleep in the chairs but willmive if you ask them to, my concern if the well being and saftey of the cats. Not all people are nice. I saw one old man who kicked the chair the cat was in for no reason other than to be an ass. They cat got down and moved away from him. I on the other hand wanted to kick his chair and ask him how it felt. But my husband wouldn't let me. Mean people in the world. So I hope all the kitties stay happy and healthy at the resort and I hope visitors continue to feed and share with them, as I did. They are a few that are further away from main are so I tried to feed them as well. One poor orange cat was badly beaten up in the face. Hope he makes a full recovery. He was around building 10 if you see him feed him please. I will go back one day in the near future and will let the managers know when we will be arriving. Enjoy your stay at Tryp and make the best of your vacation time. Remember they are many years behind us.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Affordable Vacation

The hotel was modern considering other resorts in Cuba, rooms were clean, bugs were present at times. The food was not good at all, in fact disappointing. The resort was big lots of pool areas and chairs to sit and lounge on. The resort was under staffed, not a lot of service and the staff was not that friendly. The beach area was very nice ocean was beautiful, but lots of jelly fish. Luggage was severely damaged I had to tape it up to make trip home, thanks to Cubana Air, we flew with Holas [... read more]un and their service representative at the hotel was a joke not helpful in any way on both occasions when we went to speak to them they seemed annoyed. If you don't expect much you will get your values worth.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Best week ever!

Beautiful ,welcoming,safe,fun, wonderful, enjoyable staff! Dining, has lots to offer, somewhat repetitive , but fairly good! Well taken care of, maintained! Location close to airport is wonderful. Spacious, large resort! Beach is spectacular! Swim up bar is convenient, and wondeful service!

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Just ok

Beautiful beach, delicious drinks, food ok. Long lineups for drinks and food, hard to get a lounger on the beach unless you put out your towel at 7am. Suites were big and had a beautiful ocean view. Lobby very noisy in the evening with entertainment crew yelling on microphone and blasting music. Really lacking in entertainment Would not return.

Melia Costa Rey: PRICEY FOR WHAT YOU GET

Grounds were not lush, need a few years to mature. Sewer near Creole restaurant stunk. For a newer resort there is a lot of work to be done. Tiles falling off in pool. Notice it is wearing fast. Not alot of selection in room fridge. People were nice, food was great and entertainment awesome. Beds comfy, rooms clean. Beach very nice. Could use some ice machines.

Hotel Playa Coco: Great time except for bugs!

Beautiful property, beautiful beach, and the staff were great. Got EATEN ALIVE. More bites than I can count. Food selection was poor as well. Lobby bar took very long to get drinks but the pool bar staff were outstanding

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Torn......

Just got back from this resort and it was very nice. However, if you want a nice sandy beach this might not be the place for you. There is pillar beach close by which is an amazing sandy beach, but it is not onsite. While there is not a great beach, there is great snorkelling right off the shore and great for exploring. This is where I was torn, I missed the beach, but the snorkelling was great to have so close by. Food: only the Japanese a la carte was good. And the buffet was not bad, but  [... read more]the other a la cartels were not good. What ever you do, don't get the beef anywhere. Pool: great pool and they put a lot of effort into pool side entertainment Rooms: great rooms and if you are on floors 2-3 you pretty much are guaranteed oceanview. Excursions: went deep sea fishing and found it pretty reasonable, and we caught fish, so it was great. If you do catch fish, have them fillet it and bring it back to the resort and they can cook it on the beach front fish shack (great fried fish for afternoon snacks). Went of the catamaran, but got stuck on the smaller boat. Try to be on the bigger boat and go on a calm day.

Melia Cayo Coco: Week at Melia Cayo Coco February 18 - 25, 2017

Overall very nice resort. Beach was very nice Rooms are very tired and worn but really clean. Food was good for Cuba Grounds and pool area were beautiful. Staff were great. Older clientele and very quite. Shows nightly are typical of Cuba. Lots of live musical performances by bands and singers that were very good.

Melia Costa Rey: Pullman Cayo Coco

For Cuba standards it was above par. The initial view of the ocean from the lobby was beautiful. The people were friendly and helpful. Room with partial ocean view was very nice. Although the resort is fairly new, we noticed tiles off in the pool. The rooms were clean and beds were comfortable with fluffy body length pillows. The food was fabulous. One waiter Pedro was amazing at making drinks and service. Although it is an all inclusive the only give you two beer in your fridge and it was Buck [... read more]anarro which we do not like, and the bars ran out of Crystal so we were stuck. No name pop just two in the fridge I prefer diet coke. Takes a bit to get a drink at the bar. A little slow. The entertainment was amazing, non stop in the lobby and by the pool !

Melia Jardines del Rey: Disappointing Resort!

This was my first trip to Cuba and did a lot of research on my hotel choice and picked the Melia Jardines because other than it being busy, there were really no negative reviews that I could find. It was a new resort and looked great in pictures. The resort was very nice, rooms were clean however it was a very rocky start to our trip. We arrived at our hotel just before 1:00pm on Tuesday February 22nd and we were aware that check in was not until 4:00pm, however we did not get our room unt [... read more]il almost 7:00pm on the day of arrival. We kept getting told by the front desk staff that it would be ready in half an hour and to come back and we did this for almost 3 hours which did not allow us to do anything else on the day of arrival. After we were given our room, we overheard other guests talking that there was a issue with the water. We found when we got to our room that we had no running water. There was no water in the sink, or the shower and the toilets could not be used. We found that it had been an issue for most of the day and that half of the resort did not have running water. I can appreciate that there is little control over situations like this, but what I found very frustrating and disappointing was that this was not disclosed to us at the time we finally received our room. It turned out that we did not have access to running water in our room until after lunch on Wednesday February 23rd. In addition to no running water, we did not have access to beach towels until Thursday February 24th which was now the 3rd day of our 5 day trip and the al-a-cart restaurants were all booked for over a week from the time of our arrival so they were not available to us either. Finally, we also had power outages throughout the evening of Thursday February 24th. They only lasted a few minutes each time, but there were a number of them in a short period of time. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I was only in Cuba for 5 days and to have no running water for a day and half, no access to towels and power outages did not make for a very enjoyable vacation. Customer service at the Melia was not very helpful and in fact were a bit rude. They did not offer any compensation for the lack of standard amenities during our stay with them. I will be posting my experience on trip advisor, and it is not very likely that I will return to Cuba. I will not be recommending the Melia Jardines to anyone.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great resort

They have done an amazing job with the beach and you can now walk for miles. Beach chairs can be hard to come by in the shade but they are building new palapas. Snorkeling is good and the Catamaran guys will take you out to the reef if you wish for 10 CUC PP for even better snorkeling. Room was good stayed in building 7, great housekeeping staff, all staff at this resort are wonderful and helpful. Wonderful cappuccinos as well! This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this resort and it just keeps getting better!

Hotel Camino del Mar: Melia Cayo Guillermo Cuba

Hi Jenn, We want to thank you for your help booking our trip but we did have some feedback that I think is important for you to know. When we got to the hotel went we're given the key to our room when we got to our room the bathroom wasn't cleaned and had no towels. We called the front desk so they asked us to come back down so they can change our room. We got to the new room and it was clean and had towels but all the towels were stained. We unpacked our bags and proceeded to take a shower be [... read more]fore bed, there was no hot water in our room. So I called the front desk to let them know, this call happened at 11:30 pm they said the were sending some up immediately. By 12:15 no one showed up so we called again, they again proceeded to say that someone is coming up to fix it. By 1 am no one showed up so we went to bed at 1:30 am we got a knock on the door. It was the repair man. He turned on the water and let it run for 10 min before he proceeded to tell us that we don't have hot water... the next morning we went to the customer service counter very upset. They told us they would send someone again to fix the hot water but by lunch the water was still not fixed. This went on all day, we waisted our first day on vacations dealing with this problem because no one seemed to be able to help us until we asked to speak with a manager. They then changed our room for the third time. We finally had hot water after loosing a day dealing with this problem. After a few days went by we finally got over this situation and we tried to enjoy the rest of our vacation. The beach was beautiful but the lining of the pool was lifting all over the pool so it was very uncomfortable to walk on it. The people were very nice but the start to our vacation really ruined our experience.
