Tryp Cayo Coco: Fantastic Vacation, Two Weeks Was not Long Enough
I stayed there from Dec 8/16 to Dec 22/16. One can't ask for anything more. The trip was great, short drive to the hotel not hours of driving.
Of course. there will be some unhappy people even they will offered red carpet service, it is human nature.
- My room was great, clean with balcony, nice shower and bathtub. Room service was excellent.
- There are several great bars with excellent drinks and fantastic service with smiling faces all the time.
- There are 4 to 5 restaurants whi[... read more]ch are great. Clean, relaxing, fresh foods with great chefs and nice music. Ask as many plates as you want for the food you liked and drinks.
-Buffet was fantastic with always chefs there to prepare for you on the grill sea food, beef, steaks, chicken, pasta etc. There are always four chefs there in different sections whether for breakfast, lunch or supper to please you and serve you.
Buffet it self has great choices of foods and plus chefs are there to cook for you something you like it.
- There is a bar opened for 24 hours snacks...good hamburgers with delicious tender meet.
If you want some drinks or hungry at 3:00 AM, no problem, just get out of your room and go to 24 hours opened bar to eat and drinks. There are always people who are having fun there. You won't be the only one there.
The problem is once you are there you won't go to your room soon because to much fun and you are meeting with too many nice tourists there like every where else at the hotel.
- Front desk always offered the best service if you need anything. They are there to help and solve any issues you have. I had absolutly no issues except asked a few questions.
People who serve you at the hotel, they all speak English, French of course Spanish. Don't be afraid of not speaking Spanish. I don't speak Spanish but I had no issues or you may practice your Spanish.
- The beach was one of the best I have seen in Cuba (first time in Cayo Coco and six time in Cuba), clean, with white sand and some activities with a bar and a restaurant.
- The pool is huge, it is impeccable with great service, relaxing, entertainment activities for kids and adults with a fantastic bar service.
Pictures tells you all.
The only problem I have now, I put 11 lbs on because the food was delicious I ate too much and too many drinks, lol.
I could have stayed there an other two weeks.
I will recommend this hotel to anyone. You are getting more value than what you are paying for.
I have met several people who has been there 23 years. Some of them goes there 4 times a year. Why? Obviously, they are very happy there, feel at home, and secured.
Enjoy your trip there.

Melia Las Dunas: Best time in Las Dunas
My family and I had been to this resort and returned because we knew that we would get great service, eat good food and enjoy the amazing white sand beach.
The trip was memorable and the only complaint i would have is the lack of day and evening entertainment. This is definitely not a party resort so if you just want some relaxation, then this is the place for you.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Special place
Lovely place for a relaxing vacation. Warmly greeted by staff. All needs promptly and efficiently met, especially when we experienced a medical emergency. Rooms are large and comfortable. Grounds are spacious and well kept. Very nice place for long walks. Food was the best we have had in Cuba. Entertainment was varied, especially enjoyed the variety of musicians and the variety of music performed at the lobby bar in the evening. Especially enjoyed the beach restaurant - beautiful location on a [... read more]hill, overlooking the ocean - excellent a la carte food, service, and mid day entertainment. Resort seemed generally suited to adults who want a guieter atmosphere although there are lots of activities if you want to participate. We will return.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Very good resort, excellent service
The main resort is tidy and clean, we had no problems at all. There are two sections to this resort, the Royal section is completely separate from the main section. This review is for the main section. Food in the buffet was good, lots of selection, very tasty. The beach is very nice, services very good, staff very friendly and attentive. Snorkelling oppertunities right off the beach are excellent, many corals and fish to see, easy access to the water and reefs from main beach and from the priva[... read more]te beach beside the spa.
We would go back here again. Stayed a week mid Dec 2016.

Melia Buenavista: Beautiful, Peaceful Resort
If you are looking for a quiet place to get away this is it. This is the third time for my husband and myself at this resort and we love it here. All 3 beaches are beautiful with each having a different reason for visiting each day. We are partial to the "Sunset Beach" for all the wildlife you can find here and then the main beach for enjoying a long walk and not feeling crowded at all as there is always space. Best beach service by De la Torre for always having our chairs ready for us ever[... read more]y day we were there as well the bartenders, Lewis and Manuel, at the beach bar always remembering our drinks without us asking lol. The staff are amazing and always friendly and it's always nice to be remembered and greeted when they see you!! The layout is great with enough space to make it seem like you're the only ones there and never crowded. There are only main 2 restaurants and this is where they need a lot of work ... slow service, wait staff do not speak English well enough sometimes to understand what you are asking for, not a great variety of food. The buffet that is available for breakfast and lunch has changed quite a bit from our last visit with limited variety as well but at least you can order off menu. I think this is the biggest downfall of the resort but we will still visit again despite the food/restaurant issues. They do need to a lot of small repairs/updates as well if they want to be recognized as a 5 star resort. There has been a change in management since our last visit and it was apparent as there were a lot of little changes. Overall we would still go back as it is a great place to get away to relax!

Melia Marina Varadero: Excellent Resort
Nicely laid out. We stayed in one of the buildings furthest away from the main hotel, and that was merely a 3 to 4 minute walk to get to the lobby of the main hotel. All walking was done inside the compound - you didn't have to walk on the road. Security guards were posted at strategic points of the compound, so all buildings were secured and no outsiders could get in. Our room overlooked the marina, and the view was breathtaking, very similar to the view you see on the hotel's ad.
The main lob[... read more]by was huge and nicely laid out, and so was the pool. From there, maybe a 4 minute walk to the beach. But if you wanted, there was a shuttle golf cart coming by every 2 minutes to take you there. And again, this very short ride is within the compound.
At the beach, you can walk for miles and miles in either direction, swim, etc. Not sure about the other hotels, but the Melia provided both a restaurant and a bar right there.
No locals trying to hustle you into buying something, etc.
Great food at the buffet. Lots, too much to mention. And when the buffet was closed, there was a snack bar at the pool that offered burgers, hot dogs, fries, etc. So there you go, food, 24 hours round the clock.
The people were nice and every night there was some sort/form of entertainment.
Also, because this is a recently renovated resort, or brand new - I am not sure which one, the condition of our room reflected just that: no cracks in the tiles/floor, no mould/odor, ac working good, endless hot water, beautiful balcony, excellent water pressure in the shower, no cockroaches/family, depending who you are.
So all in all, I would have to say that Fred Pongracic, you were right. For the money, this hotel was the best choice. Though I have not visited any of the other hotels/resorts, they would have to be that much better to justify me paying upwards of 100 dollars, and I feel that Melia was that good.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Let feeling unwelcomed
We just returned from a week vacation and this will be my 20th visit to cuba and 4 time to cayo coco. Unfortunately my impression is not a positive experience and that customer service was really lacking. At the Italian restaurant the waitress was rude and made the group feel less than welcomed. We were told immediately before ordering that we were only able to order one item from each list in the menu and getting wine was like pulling teeth. There was 16 of us dinning that night and they wo[... read more]uld not leave us a bottle and did not come to refill after multiple request. We were told that we would have to wait and wait we did for over 30 minutes. I felt like we were begging to be served. This was our first a la carte experience on the resort and first impressions are lasting. The bar was never able to handle the number of guest and drinks took a long time to get.
Rooms: some of our rooms were good but that was in block 8 and 16. The rest of the group did not have toliet sets the entire week even though they called numerous times. Also one room the TV did not work and many calls later still not addresses just the run around (these rooms were in block 8) This was even reported to a manager and still not fixed.
Boxed an extra meal for the Japanese at a cost of $35.00 pesos and when we arrived told a glass of wine would be $3.00 peso each. They only filled the glass a 1/3 of the way and if topped up charged again $3.00 pesos. I have paid at other resorts to have a special meal and never charged for the house wine. Feel that this resort was more about extra money and less about impressing the tourist.
Went to book the cave night with the Sunwing rep and told that it was no longer running. We wanted to go as a group of 16 people. That night when we were in the lobby there was a cuban selling the tour we were told no longer running and closed to the public. I think that this is so it can be sold by cash and not as a trip through the operator. We were so discouraged at this point we decided to not go.
We did take the tour bus to Pillar beach and had a great time and enjoyed the service we received on the beach and at the restaurant. Perhaps they should hire some of these people to work on the resort.
The beach was beautiful the weather was hot and sunny and that was the only positive I can say about this trip. I would not return or would I recommend this resort to any of my friends.
I think it may be time to look at other islands such as Dominican Republic for future trips.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: A delightfully relaxing informal experience yet with many pleasant amenities.
The 'Royal Service' (RS) division of the Paradisus Rio de Oro Resort (Holguin), where we stayed this time, offered a pleasant upscale experience by Cuban standards. From the full service restaurant and adequately stocked bar to the exceptional evening entertainment and pampering 'butler service', it was a delightful experience. Although the RS private restaurant menus, particularly the dinner menu, never changed and got to be somewhat tiring after a week, the availability of the larger food hal[... read more]l and several theme restaurants in the standard area of the resort offered ample good dining alternatives.
There are many small details one could complain about but allowances must be made for the fact that this is Cuba and the weather and inexhaustibly pleasant people more than offset any small deficiencies one might find fault with in an American or European resort. Although something might be done about the steps, or lack thereof, leading down to the large main beach which offered a minor obstacle course of coral boulders to scrable over before reaching the quite lovely sandy beach. And of course, 'After Bite' or other mosquito/sandbug bite desensitizing agent is recommended as with any tropical locales.
Although the Royal Service division is a bit more expensive, offering a touch more privacy and a pleasant remove from the larger, noisier crowds in the standard resort area nearby, one shouldn't forget that tips to staff are still a very much appreciated (and needed) aspect of Cuban hospitality providers, something many guests (especially from Europe) seem unaware of.
To end on a sweet note, let me tell you that one of the 'hidden treasures' of this resort is its incomparablly delicious 'coconut ice cream' which, though oddly absent from any Royal Service menu, can be obtained by simply requesting it ... which I heartily suggest you do!

Melia Las Americas: Beautiful Hotel in Varadero
We had fantastic holiday in this hotel. Lobby is impressive , nicely decorated and always very clean. Beautiful beach is in a short walking distance.! Lots of sun beds and umbrellas and again very clean. Music, snacks, drinks , dance lessons, all kind of sports and entertainment.
White sandy beach with the turquoise water , absolutely amazing!
Rooms are ok, we got a room with incredible view , and a lovely girl Adrienna in receptions did everything she could to make us happy!

Melia Buenavista: A Quiet Resort
Room was clean, lots of hot water with excellent butler and maid service.
The three beaches were excellent. A sunset service occurred at one beach every day. Beach chairs were set up with guests being served champagne while a musician on a clarinet or sax played a lament to the sun falling to the sea, Very beautiful to watch and to hear.
Our butler booked a restaurant for dinner each day. Each of the two restaurants served excellent dinner fare. Lunch and breakfast were served at the [... read more]buffet restaurant. Guests could also order from the menu. The chefs did a nice job with the eggs benedict. Absolutely no food lines. Service was prompt.
On this trip I was provided with resort coupons for extras. I used my 50.00 coupon and resort discount to have a massage by a professional. Amazing massage for 12.00 CUC especially when I pay 100.00 plus tax here in Niagara.
Pick up and delivery to the resort was easy. The 48 km drive across the ocean to the resort adds to the pleasure of the 90 minute drive from the airport.
All the staff were excellent to deal with. This was my 15th trip to Cuba. I am always unhappy to leave but look forward to returning.
If you are looking for a quiet stay, the Melia Buenavista is the place to be.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Everything we hoped for!
The hotel was in great shape, with lots of staff to keep it clean and neat. Grounds were constantly being worked on to keep it to a great standard. The buffet food was ok (typical Cuban standard) but the a la cartes were really tasty!! The beach was lovely! Lots of shade areas to read a book. Melia Buenavista: A little bit of heaven
This is an amazing resort.....a hidden gem. We found it very peaceful. The beaches are amazing. Loved the pools. Resort was very clean. Food great. Room clean, spacious and over looking the ocean. Lots of extra touches. Very friendly. And....only a shuttle away from the other 2 large resorts where life was much faster.
No disappointments....a great place to vacation.
