Hotel Playa Paraiso: Ok Hotel

Food was REALLY good (with going in with the attitude of this is Cuba). All meals had flavor. The A La Cartes were really good. The staff was amazing! Always there and ready to assist. Bar staff always willing to help and ready to serve. The washrooms were not 100%. Always needing toilet paper. Rarely had paper towels. There were some that were broken for our entire 7 day visit. Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Great place to spend a week in peace

This was a great place to spend some quiet time on the beach. The beach and waters are great, enough chairs on the beach and the pool for everyone. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The buffet is somewhat limited, but there are meat, fish and pasta chefs cooking them before you, with great results.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Large Beutiful Resort--Amazing Beach

Jardines Del Rey is a large property consisting of 26 apartment style buildings; three floors in each. (stairs only) Our room was large and kept VERY clean. The maids were most friendly and very much appreciated the gifts or tips we left each day.You will do a lot of walking to get around, but the grounds and staff are both very nice. The beac [... read more]h is VERY NICE, it is wide, sand is beautiful, there are lots of palapas for shade and lots of beach lounges. Servers come along regularly to see if you need drinks. Sunsets on the beach were amazing. Airport transfer to the resort was perfect--15 minutes or so. You are then taken to a room for a brief meeting and instructions. Your passport will be taken away and copied, but they return soon without issue. If your room is ready, you will be given keys right there and you are good to go. If not (like us), you must check in later with the desk staff to find out when. This seemed to be quite a chaotic process, as many folks are checking, others are trying to change rooms and others just trying to get info. The staff seemed overrun at times. Most staff can understand your questions and provide an understandable answer. This resort is very popular for French Canadians, so English is somewhat of a third language here, although staff always tries to be as helpful as possible. There were no English maps of the property, only French and Spanish. In addition, there are a LOT of smokers here. The lobby area, although open, is often smoke infested, especially in the evening. We are sensitive to smoke, so often had to move about to avoid the clouds coming around. There is one large Buffet area--split into 2 sections. There are always line-ups at the grill stations. We found the food to be fine, although we are not at all fussy eaters. Dishes were varied, there was always something good to have. Many of the dishes were served lukewarm, seldom hot. There was one microwave if you needed to heat things up. Coffee is NOT available for lunch or dinner in the buffet. (breakfast only) We found this disappointing. We went to four different restaurants in the evening. Bana (Oriental) was our favorite. There are a number of animals wandering around, horses, dogs, and a lonely donkey. The donkey is saddled once in a while, and taken to the beach by a guy, who lets you take pictures or get on the animal (for a tip) We felt bad for donkey, as when "not in use" he is left out in the blazing sun with little to eat or drink. Lobby entertainment was varied and good. The evening shows were OK, but nothing to write home to mother about. We did not do any excursions, just enjoyed the amazing surrounding, weather, beach and pools. Melia does allow you to visit and spend time and have meals at their other resorts along the coast. This can be arranged at the desk, and you can go on the hop on-off bus (5 cucs) to get there. We did enjoy some time and lunch at another resort 1/2 hour away. Tryp Cayo Coco: This resort was awesome for the price !!!

The hotel was aged , the rooms were clean , the maid service was great ,the food was very good ,the grounds were well kept and the service was very good , the entertement and the beach were awesome !!!!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: A great trip!

Beach was beautiful Staff were amazing Rooms were very clean but the beds were uncomfortable Kids club staff = awesome Grounds could use some updating Food was ok- we didn't starve - a la carts were great

Melia Cayo Coco: The right place

The hotel and grounds were always clean and uncluttered. Lots of seating and shading available around the pool and at beach side. Beach areas were always kept litter free and tidy. Plenty of different eating and drinking areas aside from the main dining room. A great assortment of dining experiences throughout the hotel grounds, something for everyone, with very tasty self-serve or made to order meals. You should not go hungry or get thirsty. The staff could not be more accommodating. Any reques [... read more]t will not be ignored, they are polite and attentive. Lots of beach activities and excursions are available. The only downside we experienced was running out of water once in a while during showers, certainly not a deal breaker. We feel we received very good value for our dollars. If Cuba is in our near future, this will be our destination.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Will not be returning

There was so many things wrong with our stay I'm not even sure where to begin. I'll start out by saying we are very laid back, easy to please people. Our expectations were not high for the price we paid. However I was shocked with how unsatisfactory our stay was. We had actually booked our vacation at Tryp but got bumped to Sol a few days prior to leaving. So not off to a good start. Once we got there we were told it would be half hour wait for the room. I would have minded the wait so much if it weren't for the fact that we hadn't slept since the day before and I'm a nursing mother and needed to get to the room to pump. Which leads me into my next and biggest complaint.- FOR ALL NURSING MOMS VACATIONING WITHOUT THEIR BABY WHO NEED TO PUMP- an electric breast pump will not work at this resort. Even with the converter we brought, there wasn't enough voltage to power the machine. This meant I had no way of keeping up my supply and had to rely on the one extra set of batteries I had packed to last me the whole week, which of course was ridiculous so I had to significantly reduce the amount of pumping sessions. It was painful and honestly very emotional for me. Food was not good and never readily available. Drinks were way too boozy in the tiny plastic cups unless you sat at the bar to drink them from a real glass even then they were sub par at best. Beds were incredibly uncomfortable. we often found ourselves very bored with nothing to do other than sit at the pool or on the beach. Very pushy for tips. The one pro was that the beaches are BEAUTIFUL. I definitely will not be coming back to this resort though.

Hotel Vigia: Very nice. Family. Vacation.

Nice little resort. Small size and layout makes it easy to meet and make new friends and get to know almost everyone working at the hotel. Very close to the beach (less than 50 meters from the cottages). Employees were always really friendly and tried to help and tried to ensure customer satisfaction. Service standards improved since our last visit in 2015. Food was good. Not a wide selection of available options, but what was presented was done well. How can you complain about wild caught f [... read more]resh shrimps, calamari, local white fish and red fish, locally farmed eggs, (presumably) organic pineapple, oranges, papaya and bananas? Great lobby bar, with Yoselin making fantastic cocktails. On the downside - perhaps we visited during the dry season when the sea levels were low, but we felt that the beach lost its allure because it didn't have shallow areas where you could walk for miles and be on your knee deep in the water. We were told that the beach was "widened" as rising sea levels over flooded palapas. Still, the sea got deeper and we couldn't find shallow areas for little kids to play. A short bus trip to Playa Pilar solves these issues, but it costs 5 peso per person + 2 peso per beach lounge chair. Overall we had a great time, enjoyed the food, coffee, cocktails, good night shows. The weather was nice. Would love to come back, but because of the new beach, would probably take a look at the other comparable alternatives.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Back Again!

We returned again to Hotel Colonial! Not disappointed! Salt water pool was beautiful! You could see the improvements with the renovations that were done to the resort from last year. The rooms always super clean and cleaning staff always polite and all staff welcoming you, every where you went. You could always find something to eat, great pizza and hamburgers with fries. Don't forget in the buffet if you look around, you will always find something to eat, great chicken and pasta! Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Pretty good resort!

We had a good time at the resort. Not impressed with not having toilet paper or paper towel for use in the public washrooms away from your room.Everything was clean and the grounds were very well kept as well as our room. The disco area was under renovations so we were not able to use that and we did find that the evening events were not all scheduled as advertised. The food was really good and the service at the buffets were excellent.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Great Resort!

My boyfriend and I were there from Jan. 30 to feb. 6. We had an amazing time! We went to the NIghtclub in a cave, a couple beach parties, and nice restaurants on the resort. The beach was beautiful and the staff was friendly. This was defiantly more of a party resort (no complaints there). Our room was large with a great view. We had running hot water at all times and 24/7 service if there was a problem. Overall it was phenomenal!!

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Ok Resort

The area itself is lovely to look at and they have extended the beach depth quite a bit so it is lovely to walk on. We had trouble opening the door to the room. Had to have security bang it open then found out by trial and error the handle had to be turned up to open smoothly. Finally had some warm water after 4 days as it took 10 minutes to get warmer and the pressure was very low. The food was ok. The specialty restaurants served very small potions and the food was slightly better than ok. Tv [... read more] was prettty good . The people are very kind and helpful. The Wifi was very slow and only in the lobby. The wifi cards you had to purchase and there was no instruction o how to use it properly so a number of cards were wasted by not logging out properly. It would have been nice to have a board with all the activities and where there they were located. Bring your own peanut butter and jam as they do t have any. Oh...and they were always running short of beach towels....never got any fir 3 days.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Loved the getaway

We really enjoyed the resort, the beach, the pool and our room. Room for improvement is with the food - we didn't find any of the food hot - everything was luke warm. The only other issue is the seafood restaurant - the service was not good except the guy cooking the lobster - he was way over worked compared to everyone else there - we waited in line for an hour to get our lobster which he cooked perfectly. They should have had both sides cooking lobster and people bringing them out regularly [... read more] to the cook - this would certainly speed things up.

Melia Cayo Coco: Wonderful time

Had a great time at the Melia Cayo Coco. The beach is terrific! It was redone this past January and is very clean and doubled in size. The staff, food and lodgings are all great. No question or request was ignored and the staff endeavoured to solve any questions asap! Will definitely be going back!

Melia Jardines del Rey: cockroaches big and small are completely unacceptable even for CUBA

I would strongly suggest this hotel NOT be recommended to anyone looking to travel to Cayo Coco. When traveling to Cuba ( this was my 5th time down in Cuba) your expectations/standards are set much lower than traveling to any other sunny destinations and you somewhat know what’s waiting for you, having said that cockroaches big and small are completely unacceptable. Especially when they are seen daily crawling around the eating areas ( main buffet, beach front buffet, 24hr snack bar and lob [... read more]by seating area). When I tell you there were several crawling on the walls, floors, overhead exhaust at the grills and on the granite counter tops were the food was sitting I am not exaggerating in the slightest. What horrified us the most was while eating dinner one evening, one crawled up my nephew’s back!! I am disgusted to say the least; our kids were traumatized and we had a very difficult time getting them back in there to eat. The food itself wasn’t very good ( thank God for bread and butter) and that too just added to the challenge. The little things that could easily be over looked ( lowered expectations) but the cockroaches just ruined it all; a few mentions of “the little things” - Thankfully we brought our own beach towels as not once during our stay were there beach towels available for us - One toaster in the main buffet – 1 - Slow Slow Slow service and crappy attitudes from the wait staff – most meals we had to get our own cutlery and drinks from their service tables - Big resort with no shuttle service anywhere - there were 4 wild dogs fighting each other daily and running freely throughout like rabid animals - food was terrible - pools were not cleaned daily -sewage stank it’s unfortunate cause what good there is at this resort can never override the bad. Don't take my word for it and go down to this self proclaimed 4.5 star resort, spend some decent money and experience it for yourself...cockroaches may not bother you, it may be your thing

Hotel Vigia: Nice place

The hotel is a dated and the rooms need work. Staff very friendly and helpful, always trying their best. Very wide beach. Good for kiting. Nice beach side restaurant for lunch and some evening dinning.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Friendly resort

We stayed at the Iberostar Daiquiri resort at the end of January 2017 and found the staff very pleasant. We have visited Cuba several times and I found the selection of food repetitive however, we always managed to find something to eat. The Mexican restaurant was our favorite. The resort is older but clean. For a great beach and a reasonable price, this is a good choice.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Just ok

Beach was wonderful. Staff we all very attentive. Always entertainment happening through the resort. Food was acceptable but most buffet warmers 90% not working. So food was often cold. Line ups for everything. Had a few issues like a broken sliding door etc. But all issues were surprisingly fixed quickly. Walkways are in need I repair. Would not recommend this location for those traveling with handicaps. Quality of booze is low. I would not return to this location but wouldn't speak negatively  [... read more]of resort to anyone who has already booked. My sister and I had a very nice holiday but have travelled and experience better quality resorts rated at 4.5.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Overall a great vacation!

Upon arrival I was skeptical how the vacation was going to go. The resort isn't a new construction and the rooms left a little to be desired. What this resort was missing in its quality of upkeep was more than made up for in service, food and friendly staff!
