Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Nice resort in downtown Varadero

The resort was handy to walk around Varadero or go to the beach. Beach was just steps away with a lifeguard on duty. Lounge chairs and cabanas were available. The pool at the resort was clean and had enough lounge chairs for everyone. Staff were friendly. Down side food was not good. Ran out of milk salt pepper ,no butter available or ketchup or mustard. Lobby bathrooms no toilet seats, toilet paper ,soap or paper towels. Bottled water had to be purchased 2 at a time with paperwork from  [... read more]front desk. Tipped our maid well room cleaned better extra TP general cleaning of resort hit and miss. Windows doors etc. not maintained, no more than 3 in elevator or alarms went off. We only paid 500.00CND. We got what we paid for. Area was good nearby restaurants good and reasonable.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Nice Facilities, Friendly Staff, Questionable Food, Little To Do For Activities

Visited this hotel Jan. 20-28, 2019. Only a small section of the resort was open. More than half of the resort was an eerie ghost town and it seemed like only 30% or less of the rooms were filled. With the lack of guests, means lack of staff and open facilities. Only one pool was actively open. There was little to nothing as far as daily activities. They did the odd dancing lesson by the pool during the day, and there was a 30 min show each night at 8:30pm - after that the resort basically went  [... read more]quiet. Not much option for food either. The same one buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A snack bar which only made burgers and hotdogs (it said pizza too but they never had it). There was also a taco joint, sushi stop, and a rotating a la carte between Cuban food and Italian food which were all only open for a few hours each night. Recommend taking advantage of these, as it's the only opportunity for something slightly better than the buffet food. The food was questionable at best. It was impossible to get anything over room temperature....even food freshly placed from the kitchen was cold. On the plus side, the staff was friendly, and the rooms were nice. Overall the facility was clean and well maintained. This resort has potential - All it needs is to be filled with guests, which I assume would result in more facilities/activities being opened up. I understand the food overall in Cuba is sub par, so who knows how much better they can make it. I wouldn't recommend this resort as it is now, but a few changes could result in a very nice experience for the next guests.

Playa Vista Azul: Wonderful resort

This resort was wonderful.Rooms modern and clean.Big warm thanks to Raysa our maid who kept room clean and looked after our every need.Especially liked the designs she made on our beds each day with towels,etc.The people of Cuba very loving.Plenty of choices to eat at the buffet in building 8 and at the beach. Ate at the a la carte restaurants for supper.Never went hungry.The water at the beach is a beautiful blue in color and weather so warm,getting up to 28 celsius.Pretty good for January.Ent [... read more]ertainment in hotel and in the theatre amazing.Big thanks to Yanelis and her crew who entertained our party of 4 with activities by the pool.Mike's coffee shop was our favorite place for specialty coffee.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Amazing staff

Welcomed with open arms. Registered quick and had our rooms ready less than an hour. Staff came to find us leaving buffet lunch to tell us. The rooms clean..grounds well kept Food was OK....had flavour but same food for days in a row...repurposed into other dishes...fine for 1 day but not 3. Most times food was suppose to be hot...but was ice cold...like came from a day in the fridge. Sometimes very hot. We understand different country but this was bad. The beach was unusable to us after first day...1hour...we got attacked by sand fleas so bad people thought we had a contagious disease. Swelling n itching like crazy...not to mention mosquitos were crazy bad in evening so made things worse. Had to go to pharmacy for prescription cream ..they were out of Cipro oral medication...thats how bad...to help take care of them before infection got real bad. This is a natural resort not cleaning beach or spraying for insects. Didn't realize how bad it really was there..partiallybecause of a swap on property....heard other resorts around to us were fine. There were numerous people with same bug bite problem...some bad some not so much. So only 2 disappointments....the bugs were the worst as 4 out of 5 of us suffered with embarrassment pain and constant itching...still a week later. They may lose people from coming or returning due to this. I would love to return...however I'm still sore/itchy/swollen/embarrassed by my legs covered in sores and on meds from bug bites. I cant go back due to this unless changes in future. With all of this said...the staff and cleanliness made the trip the best for us and tried to make us comfortable and helped us with our issues as best they could to make our stay the best they could under the circumstances. They were concerned about bites and checked with us to see how n if med was working and gave us home remedies they use. That was great of them to do. Overall had a good time because of the staff.

Paradisus Varadero: Amazing resort!! But......

The hotel wasn’t what we expected but by the end of the week we were getting accustomed to the food. There doesn’t seem to be any milk there. So bring creamers for coffee. Most staff were friendly. Gave a lot of humanitarian items they need and seemed appreciative. Bring blankets as ours in the room were very thin drapery type material..... not comfortable when air is on. Also no hot or warm water from taps. Getting through Cuban customs and sunwing flight to Cuba was concerning. You will b [... read more]e doused with insecticide on the plane to Cuba. Can’t be good for babies and small children that were on the flight. Also trouble going through Cuban customs for daughter and babies. My daughter had to dismantle stroller in a very rushed manner and shove it through conveyer belt as it wouldn’t fit all the while a customs officer grabbed her baby so she could tackle this. This put her in distress. During the dismantle the two year old fell back and hit his head and couldn’t catch his breath. All of this has to be mentioned because it was all part of the trip. Another traveller there had trouble getting walker through customs. After speaking to other Canadians at the hotel much of this is pretty typical of most hotels I.e. the food and rooms in Cuba We did however feel quite safe in a foreign country and the beaches were breathtaking. Also free use of catamaran and kayaks and scuba lessons. Nice to visit a place isolated from the world. It’s almost like going back in time. Pretty neat. Hope with opening borders this doesn’t change.

Sol Varadero Beach: Okay resort

Sol Sirenas Coral Resort all in all was okay. My boyfriend and my cousin and I wanted a last minute getaway with some sun so we decided Cuba. Our expectations for Cuba were low based on everything we heard. I had heard many times that the food in Cuba was not great and they were right. Everything was edible but by the end of our trip we were so tired of eating the same food. Being a 3 star resort, the rooms were old and run down but they were clean. Hot water for showers everyday were extremely inconsistent. We got two hot showers of the 7 days we were there. Drinks were mediocre. The beach was beautiful. The pool area was nice and staff kept entertainment up during the day and had shows most nights. They have wifi to purchase in the lobby but it doesn’t load any websites. All in all I enjoyed my trip because I went in with low expectations and I was there to spend time with my loved ones and we made all experiences, even bad enjoyable. Probably the worst resort I’ve ever stayed at but I am accustomed to 4 to 5 star resorts in Mexico and Costa Rica. If the food was better we probably would been able to look past all the other things.

Club Kawama: Great again

We have travelled to kawama twice now both times we have no complaints.You get what u pay for the hotel is close to everything I mean everything,including a great tattoo place which is crazy kids did besides that the friends u meet are so amazing staff always happy it is what is is and u make the best of your trip.we r already booking for jan 2020 again with friends but have now added 12 more woot hoot great time thanks trip central

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Amazing time

we loved staying here! the drinks where amazing and the food was good! i have celiac and i always had alot to eat! the workers were very nice! you could buy hr internet cards for 1.45 canadian or 1 Paso. alot of people we spoke to who had been coming to cuba for years said this was the best resort they stayed at. They has salt peper and ketchup (alot of resorts in cuba dont) . we cant wait to go back to this resort! was truly an amazing time! beautiful beach, and you can walk anywhere safely!

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Amazing resort

Staff were great and very friendly, front counter staff could use a little refresher on friendliness but overall they were good. Loved the pools and beach right there was perfect, a short ride to town; we took taxis as trying to get on the bus was impossible for 7 of us so we just bartered two cabs. Food was good, and had good variety.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great resort

Hotel was good overall, staff were very friendly and always smiling. Food was good, we took our own ketchup from Canada(tip from fellow traveller there). Was nice to be right on the beach and walking distance to marina and a short drive to town for day trips

Resonance Blu Varadero: Very good resort for Cuba

Food was better than other Cuban all inclusives - Japanese restaurant is fantastic They have great entertainment, however it is extremely load and goes every night until 130 am. If you enjoy this then its a great resort for you. You cannot avoid the noise it if you have a pool view room, or any room facing into the resort. We had younger kids with us, and were in the room by 10 each night and the sound of boom boom rattled through the room until 130 each night. For the extra cost of the Diamond club I don't think it was worth the cost

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Not a 5 star!

This hotel might have been 5 star in the past but it is not 5 star anymore. The rooms were dated, the fans, showers heads, etc broken, mattress, bedding & towels old & worn out. The Japanese restaurant doesn't really serve Japanese food, they can call it anything but Japanese. The restaurant close to the beach doesn't keep the service & food until the exact closing time & the dishes were empty half-hour before closing time. The staff are polite & kind & the night shows were great.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Beautiful scenery, friendly staff

First time to a tropical resort, found the grounds to be clean and beautiful. Rooms bright, spacious and clean. Friendly staff willing to assist as needed. Would not likely venture out on bus type day excursions next time as travel time excessive stopping at 8-10 resorts to pick up individuals if you happen to first on and last off. Lots of food choices, labelling was 50/50 for the buffet

Melia Marina Varadero: Great resort

Very good food! Most service employees very polite and helpful! Beach and pool area fantastic. Wide variety of restaurants to eat at. Excellent side trips to Havana at a reasonable price. Very good night time activities. Thank you.

Playa Caleta: Good thing there was a beach

Beach was the only good thing. Food was not good. Buffet food was all luke warm at best. No or wrong labels on food. Most hotel help was not helpful or didn't do a good job. Tipping didn't get you better service. Would go back to Cuba just not this resort.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Needs some updating

The first rooms we were assigned to were terrible building 20 I believe. They were dated, dirty and not at all five star quality. After negotiating with front desk we ended up in building 16 which was where we stayed previously and it was nice! But not enough beds. Overall the resort has lovely grounds. Great pool ocean front is amazing. The entertainment was great! Only would recommend ocean view building 16!

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: so-so resort

people are wonderful, very helpful and seem to enjoy their work.very disappointed with room. we requested a king bed and got two twin beds.When we inquired about the room and bed situation no one could answer a simple question regarding moving rooms.So we made the best of it.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Hidden Gem

It was a beautiful hotel, accommodations were amazing, beach was great, and the staff was super friendly. What more could you ask for in a resort. Food was as best as cuba could offer, and the entertainment was superb.

Melia Marina Varadero: Beautiful View and Great Staff

The Staff at Melina Marina were amazing they make the experience twice as amazing! The view was beautiful but definitely more of a family/couple resort than a party destination. The food was definitely lacking I'd advise anyone and everyone to pack spices and ketchup.

Melia Varadero: Great Resort!

Our stay at Melia Varadero was great overall. This was our first trip to Cuba. I was skeptical at first after hearing bad reviews of resorts and food. I have to say, our hotel was really good. It is a big resort. It is considered a 5 star resort. I’m not sure it would be a 5 star if you were at a different destination. The staff were great. Very pleasant, always informative if you needed something. The rooms were ok. The beach was great. Long stretch of beach to walk along. No one was in the [... read more] pool during our stay, but the area was very clean and well kept. The food was overall very good! All of the A La Carte restaurants were amazing. I highly recommend booking reservations at them all. The buffet was my only complaint. The food never changed, it was the same food served everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was always entertainment at night. I felt like we waited a long time to be served drinks no matter where you were. I feel like we were ignored until they felt like serving you. Some waiters were great while others were not. Carlos at the pool bar is amazing! Abraham at the piano bar is great as well. Overall it was a great week. I highly recommend travelling to Havana to see the culture and atmosphere.
