Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Disappointing resort

The restaurant was very disappointing. Service was pretty much non existent. They did not have enough coffee cups so we went without coffee in the morning. The one day I did get coffee it was served in a dirty cup? There were also not enough plates & utensils. We saw people take spoons from the serving dishes to eat with. An hour and a half into the meal they ran out of certain dishes. We ordered food one day and after waiting an hour asked where the meal was and was advised they forgot  [... read more]to put in the order. Rooms were very clean but shortage of towels and face cloths. There was also a shortage of keys for the safe so we had to wait till people returning home turned them in. Shows were also disappointing and were mostly in Spanish. There were no English shows or interpretation of the shows. Pool activities were in very poor taste.

Impressive Premium Punta Cana: Excellent

The hotel was great. Rooms were large with double shower. Very clean and the staff were very nice. I am a Cuba person so the beach is unfortunately nothing compared to Cuba but it was cleaned daily. Food was good amd a good variety

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Great stay at Melia Caribe

Spent a great week mid November. Had a family room beachside - renovated, clean, spacious - plenty of towels and amenities provided each day. Resort is big but covered in luscious greenery and ponds and we did not mind the walking. We spent most of our time at the beach - beautiful white sand, never had an issue finding spot we liked. There was a bit of sea weed during our stay (weather related) but was cleaned every day. Each dinner had something we liked a lot and something a bit less. Least favorite was the Mexican, which is mostly buffet and we found the plated meal uninspiring. Best was Casa Nostra and Spanish. Overall quality of food was good, which aligned with our expectations (did not go there for gourmet food). Service - amazing! Every member of staff we encountered was helpful and smiling. Overall - this is a big and beautiful resort with many different food options and welcoming staff.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Awesome resort

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! This was our second visit. The food in the buffet is excellent many choices lots of fresh fruit and veggies. The beach is great had a wonderful surf show while there. Several bars with great staff. The spa is excellent. Enjoyed many interactions with the awesome staff throughout the resort. Very close to Sousa were we visited daily. Enjoyed an evening at Jolly Rogers Bar and got to come home in a golf cart! We booked an ocean view and it was beautiful and such a g [... read more]reat location! We will definitely visit again!

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Not my favorite resort

If you have children between ages 10 to 17 there is not much for them to do. Bowling, pool and the pirate ship water park are not included in the all-inclusive resort. $15 person per game to bowl seems a little expensive to me. The food was alright out of 7 days I got bacon once and had to ask for it, it wasn't a help your self to it. The sand fleas were really bad, I was covered in bites so don't forget your bug spay. And finally the bartenders were just doing their job. No smiles no fun, no [... read more] thrill to be at there job whether you tip or not. Seemed to me like the tips don't go into theirs pockets! The hotel is clean and the grounds are kept nice. One more thing if you don't like to do alot of walking then this place isn't for you.

Iberostar Selection Coral Bavaro: Good time

Had a good time at the resort. Reservations required for dinner, without knowing which restaurant, menu, and time would be available only problem. Entertainment was so-so. Seaweed on the beach made the beach time unenjoyable.

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Excellent Resort and Amazing

The resort was absolutely A+. From start to finish we were taken care off. Very clean, superb service, very friendly staff. The restaurants and food was great lots of variety. The Bar services and room services were Alonso wonderful.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Outstanding Resort

Our trip was cut short by a day due to flight problems. But the quality of this resort made up for it. Very clean, great food, very nice beach; but there are some peddlers. About 30 min from the airport. Very good Wifi coverage. Attentive staff. The pool, area was a bit busy of Sunday with local guests. Rest of the week was peaceful. Good activity around the pool each day. A few stray cats there and there, they dont bother you. Top notch waterfall excursion.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Beware

A very pretty resort, also very large. We stayed for 16 days this fall, and quite enjoyed the resort, the food was quite good, lots of shuttle buses to get you around, and friendly staff. The down side is when you get to your room there is a list of items in the room, and they tell you on this list if any items are missing you will have to pay for them. We read over the list and thought to ourselves okay, but we are not going to take anything so no big deal. Well that was until we had checked ou [... read more]t had our baggage on the bus and where waiting to go to the airport, and then someone from the front desk came and asked who was in this room and he mentioned our room number. I said that is me and he said you will have to come with me. I followed him back to the front desk where I was told that I had stolen two spoons from our room and must return them or pay $4.00 US. I was flabergsted, I told him that I most definately had not stolen anything much less to spoons, but it fell on deaf ears. Not having any American cash I paid $210.00 Dominican Pesos (for which they gave me a receipt. Over the course of 16 days we left over $8,000.00 in Dominican Pesos ($200.00 Candian) in tips to various staff members at the hotel. Now I realize that we should have taken a compete inventory of the items in our room and reported that we never had any sppons in the first place I also realize on that basis it is my or our fault. But that is just plain nickle and diming, and as such the resort has lost a new client and we will never return nor will we ever recommend that place. So just be advised don't go there but if you do count and verify each and every item on the list or else.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Fantastic resort - zero complaints!

My girlfriend and I had and absolutely amazing week. The room was always clean, the resort was beautiful, the service was impeccable, the food was delicious and we also had great weather. My girl friend is vegan and she was able to find something to eat at every restaurant.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Good value resort

Very nice resort - good value for the money. Ocean was a little disappointing due to water clarity and debris but this is not something the resort can change. Staff were hard working and pleasant and the activities team were welcoming and fun. Food was good with lots of choices. Very clean - lots of hand sanitizer around if needed - did not really think about COVID all week!! Had a nice family vacation.

Playabachata Hotel: Deplorable conditions & horrendous accomodations

The stay was absolutely atrocious! That facility is a public health hazard, somehow ranked as a 4-star resort & spa. It is actually a 1.5 star (I'm being generous here) dump...it is literally one more wild bird or stray cat away from a disease outbreak. There are birds in the dining hall eating desserts off the buffet. There are stray cats coming up to tables begging for food. The rooms are in disrepair (please see attached photos). We had scammers trying to approach us by reception, requesting  [... read more]to see our Canadian ID and credit card to enter a raffle. We also had a power failure that lasted a few hours (clearly there were no back-up generators). Rooms were not retrofitted for wifi. Wifi was only available by reception (which was shotty at best). Linens were discoloured and nothing matched. Questioning sanitations practices was a daily occurrence. Customer service was severely lacking. We never once met our Sunwing representative. We were literally left to fend for ourselves to figure things out. Playa Bachata is known among the locals as one of the worst hotels in Puerto Plata. Very unprofessional. We had to leave and pay an extra $1000 to stay elsewhere at a facility that actually was safe & clean. And when we were trying to leave Playa Bachata to go to better accomodations they gave us such a hard time (check-out took almost 45 mins with them giving us a hard time) and tried to get us to sign a legally binding form in Spanish. We had to request to see the English version of the form. We refused to sign either form as it would try to absolve the hotel of all responsibilities. We left the hotel because it was subpar and unclean. Horrible experience. Please see photos of what I have described.

Punta Cana Princess: Wonderful resort!

The resort is low key, adults only with fabulous staff. If you are looking for a quiet, small resort, this would be your choice. It is a true 4+ star with a beautiful beach and large pool. We are repeat guests X12 and will be returning again next year.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Casa Marina Heaven

Casa Marina Beach resort was amazing, rooms were cleaned what seemed like twice a day and was totally wonderful to come back to fresh towels and your bed made. The air conditioning in the room was especially great because after spending all day in the sun and warm air on the beach it felt good to have a cool sleep. Grand Bavaro Princess: Great resort

It was our first time to Dominican & we had a great experience. We upgraded to Platinum and were served with a delicious cold beverage upon arrival. The Platinum pool bar was where we spent most of our days. The bartenders were amazing and really took care of us. The beach overall was very nice but there was a lot of seaweed and we were approached often for excursions, spa packages and photos. The beach is on a long strip of other resorts. The a la carte restaurants overall were very good, espec [... read more]ially the steakhouse and teppanyaki. Upgrading to Platinum gave us the option to make reservations at the restaurants. The crepes & coffee at the Frappuccino bar were the highlight of my afternoons. The staff were very friendly and the facilities were always clean. The only complaints I have about the resort are our room was never cleaned during the day and the water was not hot in the shower. We would leave our rooms around 8am and return around 4pm to a room that was not cleaned & no clean towels. I requested several days in a row for our room to be cleaned early in the day but it was not done. Some days it was not cleaned at all because it was too late in the day. Nonetheless, I would most likely return to this resort and I highly recommend it to others.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Mixed experience

This resort is one of 5 clustered together with a total of 6000 guests! We didn’t know that going in, so pools and the beach were extremely crowded. Some staff were nice, others not so, and many spoke little or no English. Buffet food was good, à la carte restaurants were mixed. Most food was heavily salted. Avoid the so called Brazilian! Grounds are beautiful and lush, but off resort poverty and garbage everywhere are common. Tipping is expected. We would NOT return.

Riu Palace Bavaro: Excellent Resort

Hotel staff, restaurants, grounds and rooms were all very nice. We were upgraded to the Villa after a small incident. I would highly recommend the Villa for a more quieter vacation. Sunwing representative communication was great. The only issue was a huge delay at the Toronto airport upon departure to Dominican Republic.

Excellence Punta Cana: Excellence?

Almost like Covid doesn’t exist in the resort,airports and transfers. Extremely disappointed with the food in this supposed 5 star resort. We noticed it had declined at Excellence Playa Mujeres as well. Much worse here though as steak in all restaurants is tough and hardly able to cut, let alone eat. Lobster was overcooked and also chewy. Breakfast was always cold unless you had your eggs made to order. Bacon,toast,waffles,pancakes,everything cold at Magna, Lobster house and Kitchen table. Dr [... read more]inks were only good at Magna, for the price of this resort, the drinks and food should be great at ALL restaurants and bars. Especially when upgrading to excellence club. Turndown service happened once in 8 days. Day staff was good and night staff. Entertainment was cheesy at best every night.Totally mislead by all the positive reviews on this place. Time for a real review. This place has basically turned us off from the all inclusive brands. Definitely not worth the money. Sorry, we started coming to Excellence for the top notch food and drinks which are very important to an expensive 5 star holiday. Punta Cana does not compare to Mexico or other Caribbean islands……will not return.

Casa Marina Reef Resort: Awesome Resort

Everything was great. This has been our 10th time there. We highly recommend it. We like how clean the grounds are kept. Good service all around. The A la cartes we're awesome. We did a tour which included horseback riding. We had a great massage. The drinks were fantastic. The entertainment was ok. Thanks

Playabachata Hotel: Sub par at best

The word resort is used loosely. Most staff can't speak english. Barely any orientation on arrival.The only wifi they had was in the lobby none at the rooms which were sub par. Bathrooms were outdated, cracked and old. Door to roombalcony was broken so we couldn't go on it. The gardener mowed the lawn for what seemed like all day. It was near impossible to sleep in. Hotel staff were inappropriate and animals picked at the bland sub par food put out on the buffet. At checkout the reception couldn't even give a statement as print option was non existent. By the weekend the events at pool were SO loud, we wouldn't have slept if we didn't check out. We moved to Gran Ventana as a result and that deserves 4 star. Locals who found out we were at Playabachata all agreed it was bad and no place for tourists.
