Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta: Could make many changes.
I will start with the positive: The room was large well kept and after the first day of requesting a time that we would like the room serviced and of course a tip to the maid each day all went well.
The A la Carte restaurants were very good and service in most cases was very good.
The negative however was quite negative No: 1 the beach was not easy to walk on and of course being on the Pacific the ocean was very rough. The worse part of this hotel and probably the same with nearby hotels is the[... read more] reserving of the pool and beach long chairs.
At 7 am 98 % of all chairs that would be in sun were reserved with towels, shoes magazines etc and by noon probably 50% were occupied. I could mention a lot about the Mexican Mafia but space is not available on the review. All and all we gave over the 2 weeks 2800.00 pesos in tips.

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Best resort ever! Fun and peaceful holiday!
This was a magical holiday. From the second we arrived we knew this resort was a gem! I was travelling with my husband, children and their partners.
The staff were spectacular! At check in, Fernandez (sorry if I spelt your name wrong) recognized I had mobility issues and changed our room to a central location. He also noticed I was upset but made me laugh and got me a margarita!
Room was spotless and housekeeping were amazing! The bed was amazing and really appreciated having a couch in the ro[... read more]om! We had a cat sanctuary that we could see from our balcony. Loved it and how well the cats were taken care of! I love cats lol
Animation team was so fun without being intrusive.
Restaurants, we got to try all of them and that’s rare a resort. Every restaurant had a hostess that would enquire about food allergies and sat everyone well spaced. I have a ginger allergy so I felt safe eating whatever I ordered. The servers were spectacular! A level of training you rarely see!
Lobby bar servers in the evening were an absolute joy and made you feel so welcome!
Check in and out was so quick and efficient!
I would return to this resort forever!
Thank you one and all for a memorable trip that I relive daily!
Mucho Gracias ðŸ™

Grand Sunset Princess: Great time
Over all was a very good experience. Was our 3rd vacation in the area and by far the largest resort we've ever stayed at. The staff were all wonderful, though often it felt they were understaffed, especially the poor bartenders stuck with never ending lines or the servers during meals with full or near full capacity.
No ridiculous issues regarding covid restrictions.
Unrelated to the hotel, Sunwing did not provide onboard entertainment unless you brought a phone or tablet. We have 2 sma[... read more]ll children and do not travel with any phones or electronic entertainment, so that was unexpected and a bit of work, but our boys handled it and we survived. They also did not provide a meal, which also was unexpected. Then our first flight was delayed by 6 hours due to operational issues - they messed up. We received $20 vouchers for that.... Everyone I talked to will never fly Sunwing again.

Catalonia Royal Tulum: Great vacation spot
We stayed at the Royal Catalonia Tulum for 10 days. It was a great vacation spot. We had a redeye flight and arrived before noon. The hotel gave us full access to the property and one of our rooms that was ready right away.
You can’t talk about this resort without talking about the staff. They are friendly, welcoming and happy to see you. Quesabel in La Palapa is friendly, efficient and a pure joy to interact with. She made us feel special every single day. Other favourites were Car[... read more]los in La Palapa, Luis in Adelita, and Anna at the Terrace. Antonio looked after our room and went out of his way to get us new towels mid day.
The grounds are beautiful with lots of wildlife. Iguanas, geckos and lots of coatis was the norm. I loved it! They have a beautiful wooden walkway through the mangroves that is lit up at night. Beautiful! There is lots of beach to walk on with more secluded areas just a short distance from the resort. You can walk quite a ways and only see a few other people from the resort. The beach and water are stunning. There is good snorkelling right off the resort beach and in the coves at either end of the beach. The water was fairly calm and the waves were not an issue.
The resort was at 90% occupancy and never felt crowded. The pools are nice and its quite easy to find private space if you want. If it rains, there are not a lot of public areas to escape to. Luckily for us, rain was not an issue. It’s a smaller resort and we quite loved it.
Our favourite restaurants were La Palapa (main restaurant for breakfast and lunch), Adelita (Mexican) and the Terrace (tapas). We found the food in La Palapa good, and there was enough variety we did not tire of it. The Terrace is outside and located next to a grotto. It’s beyond lovely. We tried all of the restaurants and I wouldn’t go back to the others.
We appreciated the free water offerings and took advantage of the catamaran. It was great fun!

Grand Palladium Kantenah: Great Time!
Employees are terrific. Groundsand rooms are very clean. We had a couple problems with AC and sliding door and they were addressed in a couple hours. Food is very good, lots to chose from.Good snorkling out front.
Who designed the pool? Its 6.5' deep in 90%. You cant hang out anywhere other than perimeter or play water games with the kids.
Remember folks, take some tip money. These wonderful peopl work very hard for almost nothing. A few dollars goes a long way to help them and their families.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Best value on the Mayan Riviera
I've vacationed at this resort 8 times and after 25 years the Coba is still a quality property. Grounds/shrubbery are well taken care of.
The buffet and a la carte restaurants are very good. We enjoyed the new Indian restaurant, Thall.
We did however, miss the towel exchange hut at the "quiet" pool. It can be a bit of a
hike to the "party" pool to get or exchange a towel. The lounge chairs were also a bit dated, and some need to be replaced. However, lounge chairs at party pool are great.
N[... read more]ew "Truck Stop" cafe at quiet pool was a disappointment. Food was cold and poor quality. Party pool snack bar was very good.
Coba is very conscientious of cleanliness in public areas and rooms. Public washrooms are well maintained.
Some negatives are drive from airport (1 1/2 hrs), no longer access to Telum amenities (except A la carte restuarants). These negatives would not stop us from returning to Coba.

Catalonia Royal Tulum: Excellent vacation spot
Just returned from a 10 day stay at Royal Catalonia Tulum. We’ve travelled a lot and this was one of the best values we experienced so far.
Beach was outstanding: white sand, clear weed free water. Few rocks. Lots of chairs on the beach.
Service was excellent. Happy people that want to keep you happy
Pool was large. Some activity around pool but not overbearing. Could probably add a bit more variety in day to day activities though
Rooms were nicely appointed. Quiet. Tv channel selection [... read more]was decent
Food was “okâ€. Buffet for breakfast and lunch was good. Needs more variety from one day to the next though. The themed restaurants were promising but have a way to go. Portions small but you could ask for more. Online reservation/menu system was excellent.
Night life was a bit of a let down. All activities started at 9:45 and were lacklustre. We still were happy with each day we experienced.
The weather was outstanding with beautiful sun rise and sunsets! Will definitely return
WestJet service was impressive, especially on the way down with the larger plane. Not so much on the way home although luggage was waiting for us when we got through the paperwork.
The rise from the airport is a bit long but it’s worth the drive
All in all, a great vacation.

Canto Del Sol: Disappointed
This was my 7th time at this resort. I loved it here. The staff knew my name when I arrived. My room and checkin usually flawless without delay. Food was amazing, specialty restaurants rocked, and staff second to none.
This time not so much.
As soon as I arrived, I felt it was different. I did get the "welcome home" greeting, which in my mind is a wonderful touch, and put you at ease right away.
I arrived at 11 am and was sent away until 3pm. That never happened before. Usually, I got my room[... read more] straight away. No matter, I went to the pool. Hardly anyone around. I was shocked. I found my friends at the pool, but half of them were in bed, sick from the food from the snack bar. The hamburgers we suspect. Others at the resort were also sick.
The next day my friend and I went to get towels. She asked for 7...no problem. I asked for 2 and the staff wanted my towel cards which I did not receive when I checked in. So, off I go to the front desk waited 15 min and got my cards. Back to get towels.
As for the pool...before you could swim up to the bar to get drinks and sit in pool. This time, closed.
Also, no drink cups in or around the pool. I didn't know this from past experiences. I had my plastic cup sitting at pools edge and the security guy "Carlos" marches towards me and scolds me for this cup. No signs, no mention upon checkin about no drinks by pool. OK.
Friends and I are sitting poolside, and a woman who was very drunk, passed out by the pool. So we placed her on a lounger to sleep it off. We covered her with a towel so not to get burned. Carlos marches over again and takes the towel off and says it's not hers. Then he stands guard by her for no reason to show some sort of authority.
So now this guy really needs an attitude check. He's been at this resort for a long time and clearly need's a new job.
Food
Horrible horrible horrible.
Buffet was always cold. Key is to get in when meal times start. Breakfast is the best for the eggs are made to order. The buffet and salad bar use to be huge and wonderful. My friends had to take their kids to KFC and McDonald's because there was no kids food and struggled when she asked for fries. I went to buffet during the day and in 7 days, 21 meals, i was offered a beverage twice. Totally ignored the rest of the time.
The specialty restaurants (surf and turf) was booked solid for 2 weeks so nobody could get in. I went out to eat. I lost weight though..lol.
The snack buffet use to have good food..not now.
You also use to be able to have breakfast at the snack bar by the water...not anymore.
One day there was no power due to maintenance, but we felt no interruption.
The hot water is juuuuuust hot enough for a shower at all times. Building is in dire need of maintenance and renovation.
I was very happy to go home. As I left my room, I grabbed my suitcase and a huge cockroach fell off the handle. I stepped on it so the maid would see it.
Never, ever going back. Neither are my friends, nor others we spoke to. It's a shame. It use to be so good. That's why I kept going back. They have lost many loyal guests.

Haven Riviera Cancun: Haven was Heaven
We had a great experience at Haven. We had a partial ocean view swim out suite and the room was beautiful. Our swim out pool was warm and at Haven swimming is 24 hours a day.
The food options were good. We had no bad meals. Only one restaurant required reservations through the front lobby concierge and we were able to get reservations for two nights. The house Merlot was good. The first night we had the a different house wine we didn’t enjoy but the next night our waiter suggested the red.
[... read more]
The buffet was good for breakfast and lunch. The salad bar, pick your fish fresh grill and warm focaccia bread with select oils was my staple for the week.
We used room service once for lunch and it was fast. The room service cabinets in the room will now be a must have for me.
Alcohol was brand name (top shelf if you are Serenity ) but ask for your brand or you will get well drinks. When you order a drink on the rocks I suggest saying no water. Our tequila on the rocks came as tequila and water with ice as did our after dinner diserrono so specify on the rocks no water.
We hung out at the round and beautiful quiet pool during the day and loved it. There was a busier more party lake activity pool but our goal was straight up relaxing.
Beach was nice sand - like all of hotels of that area there is seaweed. We did see several people swimming. We used the beach for walking only.
The resort itself is beautiful and very easily walkable. We are hoping to return.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Good hotel
This was a third time in this hotel and a lot changed. The rooms need upgrading the air conditioner is working on the same temperature all the time. You cannot control the temperature. We did have somebody coming to fix it but the same problem. We had a one blanket in the room on our arrival during the night we were freezing. The front door lock did not work the same for the balcony door. The internet is not secured by password ,you have to have a VPN. When I did complain about he internet the per[... read more]son at the desk told me it is because of clouds. The hotel is catering to privileged client .The food is excellent the grounds are kept really well. The beach is ok to much weeds and rocks going to the water you need shoes.Still ver y nice resort for the family. I hope they will learn from the complains .Not a 5 star like they advertise.I would give give them 3 till they improve.
We are just back from our vacation week at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal in Riviera Maya. It was a relaxing and refreshing week we all needed badly after a long time of pandemic and sad winters. PROS. We were amazed by the wildlife in the resort: pelicans hunting right at the beach, fish, nasuas, and many birds and lizards. The beach is clean, when seaweed finds its way to the resort lagoons, it is immediately cleaned out. The food was always fresh and diverse, I believe everyone can find anythin[... read more]g to their taste in the buffet. The desserts are skippable (which is good!) We also visited seafood and French cuisine restaurants, and both had interesting choices. All resort areas, including the pool, spa, and gym are maintained well and clean. The gym is small, but we found enough ways to have a good workout. The staff is also offering Zumba. I was amazed by the landscaping design - all the greenery is gorgeous and well-maintained. The room we got was spacious, with a beautiful ocean view, with a king-size bed. And our teen got a couch bed (he did not complain). CONS. The bathroom needs some renovations. We also ran out of bath gel on the 2nd day, and could not get the refill, the cleaning lady permanently forgot to refill it, even after we left notes for her, supported by some more material hints. We had to use shampoo instead, which is okay for a scout camp, not a 5-star hotel. They offer Zumba classes with very loud music not only in the pool but also at the beach, right in the water, where they have the remains of the coral reef. I believe it is not good for the wildlife, and not good for the people who want to relax at the beach and enjoy the natural environment.

Allegro Playacar: wow - a really nice resort with so much potential, but what happened?
great layout
everything close by
amazing beach
close to town
food was average but filling and tasty - still put on some pounds while there ( stay with the buffets) - Asian food very disappointing.
alcoholic beverages flowing but the quality of alcohol left wanting-
perfect place for adults, or families or friends - we had a blast
the people phenomenal - could smile even when they knew we were not satisfied
BUT:
Maintenance of property - the infrastructure must be aging - externall[... read more]y beautiful, no complaints of the landscaping, grounds, beaches, pool areas etc, updated rooms, but the mechanics - no A/C for many of us until a few days in (worked really well then), hot water and water pressure issues and the women's bathroom in the front lobby should be the biggest embarrassment to the hotel - did not work when we arrivedand did not work when we left.
PLEASE, Allegro, make us all proud and get these things fixed (even if it is just the washroom) because otherwise it is the perfect hotel.

Riu Emerald Bay: It was great, but maybe a little over-rated
Hotel was good, but the room we stayed in is ready for an update. Things were showing their age. Staff was really nice and attentive. But when we signed up for 5*, we expected a higher level.
Room - Very clean with a great view, but old deco. Crack across the top of the toilet. All the rails and shelves in the shower/tub were partially pulled out of the wall. There used to be a TV on the wall, but now it's just the hanging rack with an old TV on the dresser. The outlets were so overused [... read more]that our plugs wouldn't stay in the wall (dropped out). There was no hotel infotainment system on the TV - just TV stations in Spanish.
One of our biggest complaints has to be that there were no actual a la carte restaurants. The 3 "restaurant" options had buffets. The food wasn't bad, but you couldn't order.
Also, there were no activities for kids that are a little older (young to middle aged Teens). Kid's club looked great, but it was focused on very young kids.
Pool table in the Sports bar was totally wrecked, and we had to pay to use it. AND it was missing 2 balls!! That was disappointing...
