We stayed in the adults only section. Loved it. The food is fantastic with lots of options. The rooms are modern and clean. This was our second stay at a Royalton property. This one also did not disappoint.
upon arrival at the airport we were greeted by our Sunwing Rep, this process to the bus was very smooth and quick. arriving to the resort we were hoping that this would most likely be the family drop off and that we would surely be driving to a second location for the adult portion of the resort (Hideaway). however to our dissappoitnment that was not the case. we were greeted by very friendly staff and once the paper work and logistics were worked out, off to our room. again with disappointm[... read more]ent knowing that because we were walking the adult resort was certainly going to be close to the large family building. I would like to stress when you are booking this hotel for an adult couple, strongly stress that this is a large resort and a very family oriented resort. the Hideaway thougbeit their adult version, was not ours. with the very small selection of 2 restaurants we had to find our way over every night to choose a restaurant with many playful children and extreme wait times, in fact some we never made because of this very reason. there was not a lot going on for us either. we did however enjoy a few evenings dedicated to us at the Hideaway. I can say that the resort itself was lovely, and not much was missed in way of services, but I will not go back and would only recommend as a family resort. the staff were amazing and as lovely as ever. I love Mexico and the amazing people that live and work there.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: You get what you pay for.
TripCentral emailed asking for this review, but honestly I probably would of wrote it either way. Officially my first review to give some context, but I was motivated to at least inform potential guests either way. I'll ramble for sure, but hopefully it is useful.
First and mainly, this resort is O-K. Not great, not terrible. I read dozens of reviews prior to my trip and there were plenty of both.
Here's whats true imo:
- The beach is awful. There is a lagoon about a km down you can wal[... read more]k to, but its not great for swimming. If you want to tan there are plenty of chairs, great. If you want to swim, hard no. Pool, or excursion. I highly recommend Xel-Ha.
-The rooms do smell musty. Some worse than others. Our first room was awful, but one phone call, 10 mins and we were moved. The second room was noticeably better, but the A/C does have a musty smell. Credit to the service team here for quickly moving us. I can easily see why reviews can go off the rails here. You get what you pay for.
-The resort is old. It is worn in many places, but is kept very clean. The grounds, rooms, pools, restaurants are all very clean. We saw plenty of staff working to clean all of these areas regularly. You get what you pay for.
-The sewer smell is real, but its not sewage. You can be educated on this if you need to be. Its not overpowering, but its there occasionally. It never ruined any of our experience.
-The buffet is nice. The restaurants were OK. Steakhouse and Mexican were good. Italian, Seafood and French, were not. It was simple to book through a concierge and were never turned away as we booked in the morning the day prior.
-The Pools are great, probably the best part of this resort. They are old, and there are tiles needing repair. But we did see workers attending to this almost every morning.
-Drinks are o-k. If you want premium booze, you will need to ask for it. Otherwise no name well shots used in most drinks. Our room was also restocked daily with beer, pop, water and we were given a free bottle of tequila on day 1.
- Free activities - not much going on... at all. There is options for pay to play jet-skis and excursions. Some worth it, some not at all. Even less going on at night. Black and White bar is ....a resort bar. There was a market three nights until midnight with local vendors. Prices were...eh..touristy.
- The nightly shows are O-K. Some of them were pretty entertaining, just dont expect Broadway. You get what you pay for.
- The sales pitch. You WILL be harassed. You will have a BEST FRIEND until you attend one of the sessions. Personally I went just to see what it was about, but you can tell them to take a hike. We were given 200.00 toward excursions for 2.5hrs of chat. So take that for what its worth. I went, I learned, I passed. I still got the 200.00. Once you do go and say no, you will never see your best friend again. You will still be approached regularly by others.
In short, cleanliness, the food is OK, and the pools are big and nice to hang around. The bad I have outlined above. Mostly that its an older resort, not a bad value if you get it on the cheap and that the beach is basically non-existent.
The the main point is that you get what you pay for. This is an OK resort, but I would never pay a dime more than I did to go here and I doubt I will ever go back. I paid about 1400.00 CAN and had a nice time. I dont feel burned. If a friend asked, I would tell them to spend a couple hundred more, to go to a much nicer resort.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Amazing resort for families with young ones
This trip was a dream vacation , we went with our daughter and Son-in-law with their 8 month old baby. We were assigned a floor level accommodation, they had the one bedroom and us the adjacent deluxe room. They were both spacious and well appointed. fridge and safe and the one bedroom had all baby stuff brought in : Crib, baby tub, bottle warmer, stroller .. wow!
The restaurants and food are all top quality with no digestive problems. The resort is full of children , but you don't feel any o[... read more]f them, i guess a happy child is a blessing.

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Disappointed
When we arrived the lobby was full with tons of people checking out. It took us over an hour to be helped at the lobby counter. The staff was very unfriendly, not very knowledgeable about the resort and rude. After being told multiple times to wait 2 hours for our rooms to be ready and 6 hours later still no room and laughed in my face. I’ve never been treated so badly in my life. The first day on my vacation I was in tears. That being said on the second day I chose to take control of my vacat[... read more]ion and contacted my tour provider and switched hotels.

Dreams Jade Resort and Spa: Upgrade to the Preferred Club is worth it.
We stayed at this hotel a couple of years ago but on the "family" side of the resort. This time we upgraded to the adults only side. We had a special restaurant for breakfast where everything was made to order. The lounge was wonderful serving food and top shelf liquor. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We now feel that upgrading no matter what the resort is worth the added cost to really enjoy a vacation.
The only negative was the seaweed on the beach but it is happening to a numbe[... read more]r of islands as well. I checked online and there is a website that tracks the seaweed blooms in the Caribbean. There are people out all day long at this hotel cleaning up the beach. The pools are wonderful, especially the one for the adult only.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort
Over 75 of us attended our son and daughter-in-law's wedding at the beginning of April, 2019. It could not have been more perfect. Wedding was amazing, the staff worked so hard to make sure this day went exactly how they had planned. There was something for everyone. Quiet places if you wanted peace or lots of activities throughout the day if you like to keep busy. Food was awesome and the resort and rooms were well taken care off. The coffee shop was a huge hit with all of us (especiall[... read more]y the pistachio milkshake). The staff work so hard. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Dreams Aventuras Riviera Maya: nice resort - very family oriented.Limited sandy beach area
The grounds were good. The adult area was exceptional. The service was great in all the areas with regards to friendliness cleanliness, and the employees doing the bars, rooms and restaurants were great. The front desk team need some customer service training.
When we entered the resort, the first stop is the security. As we had used Canada Transfers, the person working security informed our driver our room was 639. Of course, knowing how room numbers are most often numbered, we knew this was a[... read more]n upper floor.
When we got to the front desk, the receptionist told us we were on the ground floor as we booked the deal of the day package? We explained that we would prefer an upper floor room. He said that would be an upgrade. For ocean view, it would be $400 US. By the way, the ocean view overlooks the 2 kids pools and the bars and restaurants...not much ocean. As we were not ready to shell out $800 US for the ocean view, we elected the dolphin view which overlooks the adult area and the containment area for the dolphins. This was only $160 US. We took this and they said to come back to the front desk in about 2 hours for our room information
As our room wasn't ready yet, they said we would have to wait which was understandable as we had arrived early. They told us we could use the bars and restaurants. When we went to the restaurant, we gave the hostess our name and told them that our room wasn't ready yet. She found our name and said that we were room 639.It seems odd that in 2 areas where we had contact with other areas that we already had a room assignment that matched but the front desk had other plans? We paid the $160 US just to get on with the holiday...When our room was assigned, we were given room 639. As we said this wasn't an upgrade, as numerous areas already told us that we had this room, they re-assigned us to room 635. Only difference they said was a king size bed. Don't get me wrong, the rooms are very nice and comfortable.
Later in the week, because we had made a bit of a fuss over paying for the upgrade, we had a call from the front desk and said that they would like to see us. On the same day when we returned to our room in the late afternoon, we turned on the TV. The picture was gone and was just coloured lines running up and down it. it was an LG flat screen and about 46". As we don't watch much TV, and we had to see the front desk as requested, we figured we would hold off and mention the issue with the TV at that time.
When we went to the front desk, the manager came out and offered us the usage of the lounge on the 7th floor as a benefit for the upgrade for the last 4 nights of our stay. She then went on to say that we broke the TV as it was reported by the turn down service. She said that we had either punched the TV or we had pulled it off the wall. As a note, we are 60 years old and not ones who get rowdy or even drunk. I was very upset with this and they even informed us that we would be paying $600 US to replace the TV we broke. Of course, we got into a debate with the manager at the time and ended up not having to pay for the TV. But the manager did say that in that case, the maid would have to pay for it?
When we went back to our room that evening, we noticed that in the lower right corner of the TV, there was a perfect circle in the screen. There was no visible damage or holes but a perfect circle in the area.
The key point in the review is that the front desk and the staff in this area really need to work on their customer service. This is the first people you meet and they are the first face you remember. As the rest of the staff, they are amazing and are always friendly and work very hard. This is the people who do the rooms, servers, hostesses, bartenders.
As for the beach, and we were well aware of the issue with the seaweed. We as tourists are the primary cause of it. I wouldn't complain about it. It is what it is and anyone traveling there should be aware of it in the first place.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Great family resort
We stayed for a week with our 5 month old baby and had a great time! The resort is well laid out and the pool by our room was a great size and shaded during the day which was perfect for the little one. The food is really good overall - particularly the sushi and Thai restaurants. Staff were friendly and a great welcome with champagne! Rooms spacious and well decorated. They provide sterilizers, change tables and cribs if you request one.

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Beautiful Resort!
We stayed at this resort 10 years ago and were impressed back then by the cleanliness overall and the quality of the food served in the buffet, a la carte restaurants, coffee shop, etc.
Now on this trip, we were once again very impressed. The resort was fresh, colourfully vibrant, and very clean. The food was amazing! The beach was groomed every day. There were generally plenty of lounge chairs. New huts for shade were being made.

We thought that the Resort for the most part was amazing.
The food was great, and the service was fantastic.
The only issues we had was there was not enough signage throughout Resorts to know where we were, and also we were told it was not permitted to hold chairs by placing towels on them, yet every day everyone did it and it made it tough to find chairs.

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: Amazing as expected!
We are very satisfied with our choice for our vacation at the Valentin Imperial Maya. Room was big with comfortable bed. Food was above average with various good à la carte options. Only complaint for food may of been the lunch buffet as options were limited. Beach was amazing, wide with white sand, beautiful turquoise water. To note the water is very rough and the water conditions were very dangerous at times. One negative about the resort is the towel game is very excessive compared to other
