Riu Palace Paradise Island: small but nice

This resort is the smallest I have ever stayed at but it was very clean, the food was amazing and the people really friendly. As far as our room goes, the second room we got which I paid extra money for was very nice. The first one they gave us was suppose to be two double bed suite with ocean view for three people which was a small hotel room with two single beds pushed together for three adults??? Not acceptable as my mother was travelling with my daughter and I and she has a very bad back. Tr [... read more]avel agents should not be booking this type of room for three adults, not big enough. However when I went down to complain the manager quickly switched us to another suite at my expense. The check in also was very long, we were in line for over an hour waiting to get our room.

Riu Emerald Bay: Family holiday

Fun resort but definitely geared for families with younger children. Food was good but repetitive, buffet was full of children so not easy to navigate. Not recommended for quiet holidays. Pools were filled with children as well. Beach was clean but there are a lot of shells so I would recommend water shoes. Hotel and rooms were clean and comfortable. Front desk staff were not very friendly or compassionate to guests.

Riu Palace Mexico: amazing place

this was by far the most amazing trip we have taken the resort, service and staff the food and the day trips, the beach and shopping all excellent, My wife and I are already counting down the days when we return for next years vacation.

Riu Ocho Rios: Awesome resort and friendly workers too

The resort was very clean, great selection of food. I was very impressed for my first trip. It took us a bit to get booked in because our room was not ready but all workers were awesome and caring. I would go back again.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Good value for your dollars!

Just came back from our trip and we had an overall good time! Pros: - The pools and grounds look just as good as the photos they put up on the site. It's gorgeous. - You get good value for the money - Service is generally excellent (few exceptions but whatever) - They deal with issues promptly - great omelettes and breakfast options - snack bar food is all brilliant - solid options for food at all meals, though not much variety - the coffee is BRILLIANT at the lobby bar and snack bar - the aqua [... read more] ballet was really fantastic Food Tip: - make sure to eat a lot of carbs or you'll get bloated (trust me, don't do a protein heavy diet here without balance or you'll suffer haha) Cons: - there were some cockroaches in the room (just don't leave your stuff on the floor and you'll be fine) - my girlfriend got food poisoning one night from some crab salad from the buffet, so stay away from the uncooked seafood (I ate a lot from the buffet grill sections and that seafood was fine) - a la carte's aren't really an upgrade from the buffet, they're just buffet items in a different location, so don't count on fine dining experiences - the beach is lovely but the ocean is super shallow so ocean swimming isn't really an option without an excursion - the dance shows in the theatre had some brilliant dancers, but also some not-so-brilliant ones so they were a bit weird and we skipped most of them. OVERALL: It was a great place to rest up and get a breather for the dollar value. There weren't a lot of activities, but we're pretty restful people anyways. We had a lovely time, but will probably be headed elsewhere in the future. Worth a try for the easy going!

Riu Merengue: Amazing resort!

My best vacation ever! Amazing rooms, beach, food, drinks etc.etc. Absolutely no complaints about this resort. Only problem was the bug bites at night on the beach, forgot to take bug spray?! Perfect place and I would recommend to anyone. Cannot wait to return!

Riu Guanacaste: Beautiful Resort

The amenities were well kept and beautiful! Food was delicious and my group had the best time!! Can't wait to visit again! The only complaint I would have is that the check in times seemed late and inflexible. We had to kill some time till our rooms were ready.

Riu Santa Fe: Awesome trip, great resort

We stayed in building 2, which after seeing the 'party pool' nearest to the ocean, I was grateful we weren't closer. It was honestly, gross. Cigarette butts everywhere, empty glasses all over the pool area, and it was way warmer than the other pools, which meant to me most of the party goers were not getting out often enough to use the washroom. I wanted to go into the infinity pool but I couldn't bring myself to go in.The back 2 pools were really nice. The grounds were maintained beautifully, grass always cuts and trees taken care of. Everything was always being cleaned or was noticeably clean when areas were not being used. We could always find something good in the buffet , the Asian restaurant wasn't the best, the chicken teriyaki was not appetizing and the buffet option for appetizers was a little strange. But I enjoyed the fried ice cream! We ate at the steakhouse our last night, and after a confusion with us not being on the guest list, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We're from Alberta, with AAA Alberta beef so we were all skeptical about the quality, but we all left very satisfied with no complaints. It was a really great meal. Getting transportation to and from the resort was very easy and not a hassle. And it was close enough to town that it wasn't expensive. The only major complaint I left with was the bed and pillows. The pillows were very soft and were not comfortable one bit. And I never have back pain, but by the last few days, I started getting pain from the bed, not sure if it was too hard or not enough support, either way I was very happy to leave and sleep in my own bed the night we left. But overall, we had a great trip and would recommend the resort to a friend.

Riu Palace Costa Rica: Fantastic Resort

The RIU Palace in Costa Rica, lived up to our high expectations and then some. My daughter and I travelled there April 27 to May 4, 2015. This was our first time at a RIU and we have travelled a lot so we have a lot to high quality resorts to use to compare against. This resort was beautiful and well managed. Rooms were well appointed, modern and clean. We had jungle view and sights and sound great (I.e., mountains, jungle, birds and holler monkeys). The pools and grounds to the beach were beautiful and well maintained. Lots of shade trees at the beach if you are not a sun worshipper, and the service for drink at the pool and while lounging on the beach were excellent, many thanks to waiter serving the beach! The beach was wonderful, not white sand but blackish volcanic, very hot not in shade, but if walking by water awesome. Was very secluded and pristine. Some say a lot of rock but we did find it overly so. Special shout out the Edgar at front desk he was very helpful and extremely friendly, thanks Edgar! The food at the buffet and restaurants was excellent, lots of variety, served hot and tasty. We really enjoyed the steak and the gourmet restaurants! The servers at all restaurants were extremely friendly and responsive. The coffee is amazing, just thought I would throw that one in. There is WiFi throughout hotel and even on the beach, but in our room it cut out sometime and I found myself sitting on the balcony were reception was fine, so no big deal and got to enjoy holler monkeys more too. We took the boat cruise in Paolo Verde National Park and saw lots of wildlife, tour guide was very informative, but we found out later that lunch was supposed to be provide and it was not? Lastly you got to try the homemade cookies in the lounge :) very yummy. RIU Palace top marks, Costa Rica is definitely a destination you have to experience and this resort will make it all the more better for you. This country has made my possibilities for retirement plans for sure. Wishing I was soaking the sun on the beach at RIU Palace right now! I gotta get me a RIU membership now I think...

Riu Ocho Rios: Amazing Resort!

The resort was very clean, the grounds were kept very well. The beach was amazing, also cleaned every night. The pool was very large and had plenty of room. The food was pretty good overall. Most of the staff on the resort where very nice and always willing to help you. Now the bad stuff, the bathrooms where way to far from the pool. Durning my stay the pool was closed one full day and my son was very disappointed. Too many people the day before had urinated in the pool. So we no longer used the [... read more] pool after that, we went to the ocean. I found that some of the main bar staff EXPECTED a tip everytime you got a drink. If we did not they where very rude and disrespectfull to my family. Overall my family and I had an AMAZING TIME!!

Riu Ocho Rios: good resort

the bar service sucked half the time even if you where willing to tip the maid service was great went on a few outing they where not to bad the only thing I didn't like was they expected you to tip them for everything or they never came back

Riu Vallarta: Excellent Resort

Grounds where very nice and well kept, pools clean but a little small for the size of the hotel, Steak house was a nice change but average, Nirvana restaurant was good and would recommend, had a reservation at Sir George's but was not able to eat due to myself wearing dress shorts (make sure you bring long pants) rooms where clean and towels were plenty,beds where hard as a rock so make sure you ask for a mattress pad when you arrive, AC worked great in rooms 8075&8076, and where nice and quite  [... read more]away from the court side rooms,the in room bar and fridge were only stocked every second day but our liquor bottles were empty for 4 days and we had to call for replacement, the buffet was excellent and had many different choices for all to enjoy as we had breakfast lunch dinner there most of the time and service was great. P.s I have already recommended this hotel to a co worker and they are there now.

Riu Palace Costa Rica: Great resort. So so beach

Great resort. Food was very good. The people working at the resort were fantastic. no bathroom by the pools which was strange.Not an adults only, but not a kid friendly resort. After the show was over, not much to do at night Overall very good

Riu Santa Fe: Lives up to the hype!

The Riu Santa Fe was absolutely amazing. Beautiful grounds, great rooms, and the food was very, very good! All of the workers were extremely helpful and positive which really enhanced our experience. The beach was beautiful and although the undertow in the water is no joke, it is still possible to swim on most days. The location of the hotel is perfect as it is private but close enough to other resorts to make for a fun walk if you want to explore. We walked the beach into downtown on more than  [... read more]one occassion which made for a great half-day activity. The downtown area is very safe with plenty of restaurants and shopping. Lastly, the weather was absolutely perfect. We came in late April/early May and it was cooler in the mornings and evenings but warm/hot in the sun during the day. I think I only saw a handful of clouds in the sky in the entire seven day duration of our trip. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning to Cabo in the near future!

Riu Santa Fe: great Resort

Clean and friendly, lots to do. beach is nice . car rental in lobby or lots of taxi's that are fast . Food is good as is service . very nice place , have stayed here 2 times , and will probably stay here again. close to town .

Riu Santa Fe: Great destination - lots to do and see!

This has been one of my favorite destinations to date! The hotel was immaculate, and the grounds were gorgeous. The pools were well maintained, and the chairs washed down daily. There was plenty of food selection and the drinks were excellent. The staff were very attentive. There was lots to do off the resort as well so you were never bored. Al la carte's were excellent. All and all it was an amazing week and I would definitely go back to the same spot.

Riu Ocho Rios: nice resort

very nice , beautiful beaches , friendly staff, the trip to the town was great and our driver was very informative, the evening shows were great , the buffets were good , the private restaurant dining was alright.

Riu Ocho Rios: Wonderful resort!

Beautiful resort and beach, very clean and well kept, great food and friendly staff. Beach was close with nice sand and clear water (no coral, rocks or seaweed). Great location for excursions close by.

Riu Palace Macao: Beautiful Resort

The resort was beautiful and the grounds well maintained. Service was excellent with both housekeeping and food service. Free Wi fi was a great feature and no issues accessing it from any point in the resort. Only one issue which is out of the resorts control was the amount of smokers during our one week stay. Even with the outdoor covered bar area there was still many times the smoke was extremely heavy.
