Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Very clean, quiet resort

Small resort but beautifully landscaped grounds. The hotel is very well maintained. The hotel room was very clean. No bugs, AC worked phenomenally, the showers were always hot, we were in room 4007 near the relax pool. It was a quiet area farther from the bar and buffet. The food was OK. Variety in food was so/so, not many meat dishes. Mostly potatoes, pasta and pizza. The a la cart restaurants were very good. Although, there was only two to choose from- Italian and Mexican but it was easy to bo [... read more]ok and we got more than just 2. I didn't like that the main areas such as buffet and restaurants weren't air conditioned. The beach was beautiful, little to no seaweed and easy to find lounge chairs. The lobby had free wifi but was very slow due to everyone trying to log in. I highly suggest buying the hours for wifi. It worked great in our room and anywhere on the resort. I also didn't like that the main bar closed at 12 and you had to go down to the disco to get drinks because that one stayed open until 2am. The disco was air conditioned but nasty. Smelled like mold because it was in the basement. Very few people there aswell, everyone went to cabarete to party which is a 10 minute walk on the beach. I wouldn't walk in alone at night though. The shows aren't really my thing but the animation crew were really good at what they do. Front desk was Always very helpful. Location was great, very close to caberete where the nightlife is very live. I would reccomend this hotel only because of its location to caberete. Overall I had a good time.

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Not exactly paradise!

I did not like Viva Wyndham and transferred to another resort after two days. I was given a room with no view, no balcony, mold growing in the bathroom, and no hot water. The main seating area by the bar was filled with smokers and there was no place to sit without breathing second hand smoke. The beach was beautiful but windy. I will not return to this resort.

We only stayed 1 day then moved to lifestyle vacations . There was no place to unpack our clothes etc room we upgraded to was very tiny. Food was not great . We had 5 star accomadations and service at lifestyle

Grand Isla Navidad Resort: Great hotel - restaurant service needs improvement

Thank you for giving me an opportunity to voice my opinion about our stay at the Grand Isla Navidad Resort for two weeks in February 2015. We loved it. We liked our room, the view and the quietness of the hotel away from all the hustle and bustle of other big touristy resorts. We liked the food too. But there were a few things that surprise us about this 4.5 star hotel. That was the service. Every time we wanted to sit down at the La Plasuela restaurant (at pool level) for lunch we had to sit do [... read more]wn to a table that hasn’t been cleaned after the last customers. Even when there were only half of the tables occupied the others were not cleaned and the waiters didn’t look like they would clean it until we sat down and often waited for a long time. Even then they would put utensils in from of us that were left over from the previous guest. We couldn’t believe how one of the waiters gathered dishes and utensils at our and other dirty tables to give to us. We ordered the red snapper but we got some other fish dish served without informing us that they didn’t have any red snapper. Used single serve ketchup and mayonnaise jars were put back on the tables. We wanted to book a table at Antonio’s Italian restaurant and were told by the concierge that there were no tables available for the early booking times. As we didn’t want to eat so late we declined. Later we asked again by the check-in desk and were told it was no problem and that there were many open tables at any time. When we got to the restaurant it was not even half full. At breakfast and dinner we had to enjoy the same buffet at least 4 or 5 times prepared by a single cook lady for all the hotel guests during our two week stay. This resulted in long, sometimes a whole hour wait till one could get something to eat. We were not informed that we could also order from the menus. We found out about ordering from the menus from other guests. When we asked for the menus we got Spanish menus twice during the same dinner because the staff couldn’t organize the menus according to different languages. But when we did the food was very good. Most importantly the restaurant under the leadership of Mr. Lorenzo is the most disorganized restaurant we had the pleasure to dine in a long time. The girl asks us for our room number and then she said we could sit anywhere we wanted. Then we had to wait till one of the waiters was nice enough to ask us what we would like to drink. But first he had to gather coffee cups from other tables but he didn’t bring us a spoon. We had to ask again for a spoon. Then we had asked again for milk for our coffee etc etc. At dinner-time more of the same. We would think that the lady at the desk should have led us to a table and give us the menus. Ask what we would like to drink and get somebody to bring it instead everybody running around without a clue of what they are doing. Pretty poor organization in our opinion. We think that the staff and especially the staff leaders in the restaurants like Mr. Lorenzo need to receive proper training on how a restaurant should be operated in a hotel of this standard. The entertainment at your El Faro lobby bar was absolutely horrible. The two Canadian entertainers from Salt Spring Island were the worst performers we had the pleasure to enjoy in a long time. The bartender Sergio had at least a bit more knowledge of drink mixing than the bartenders at the pool bar. They were just sloshing stuff together. Obviously they had no proper training. Very poor for a 4.5 star hotel. But in all fairness I’d like to repeat that we enjoyed our stay. We loved the location, the scenery, our room, the cleanliness, the view and the weather. Just the restaurant service needed some improvement. I would like to thank you for providing us with a great vacation and I hope that you accept our opinion about it given in honesty.

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach: Underrated and Underappreciated

We returned from the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach 4 days ago and I wish I was still there. This property is rated 3.5stars, but it is more of a 4 star. We were scared when we got to the lobby expecting a Grandiose area of congregation. The VWDB lobby is for checking wifi and coming and going. That's all. The resort opens up from there with great areas to hangout night and day. The beach is Amazing! White sand turquoise clear wAter and some large areas of coral in waist deep water teeming with fi [... read more]sh and amazing for snorkelling. 3/4 pools are beautiful with bars close at hand. There is a trapeze which is also included. And children 4-12 can use from 9-11. And adults 4-6. The standard room is just that "standard" and doesn't even have a fridge. But before you book look to see if there is a superior room available. Usually they are not much more. There also is bungalows that are stone buildings with thatched roofs. These are great and are closest to the beach. I reccomended these! The food at the main buffet is typical-really good buffet food. Nothing that blew me away but I was content every meal there. The a al carte restaurants were also very good. The Mexican restaurant was actually amazing. You can book into these every night so get into guest services and do it. The animation team were wonderful! It is a very multicultural hotel. And almost everyone speaks some-decent English. There are a lot of Italians at the resort so don't be offended if they don't speak English first. The animation team is made up of people from all over the world. Italy, Scotland, Brazil, Slovakia and Dominicans. Most can speak 4-5 languages well and they are all fun people and skilled dancers. At around 8:30 there is usually a band or music in the main courtyard and the animation staff is ever present to teach merengue or bachata. At 9:45 the show starts and was the best shows I've seen at a resort. Except the comedy show. Book a late dinner that day. Following the show there is a fun themed danceparty in the courtyard every night until 12:30 when the staff walks everyone interested to the disco. This is a very fun hotel with lots to do at any level of participation. The beach is large and although often packed. There are always loungers to be found. I have already recommended this hotel to friends and will return myself. We travelled with our 2 children 5&7.

Grand Isla Navidad Resort: Beautiful Resort!!

This is a beautiful resort with great staff and . You don't need to get a ocean view room because all views are amazing. Food was pretty good but the dinner buffet was not great. If your looking for a quite vacation with no entertainment then this is a great place to go.

Viva Maya by Wyndham: Great value and lots of fun things to do!

It was overall really great. Tons of stuff to do besides bake on the beach! We went on a long bike ride, paddle boarded, kayaked, went on a catamaran - all included. We also went on a great excursion to Tulum. Would go back to this area again!

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach: Very nice

The resort itself was beautiful, well maintained and a pleasure to stay at. The staff were very helpful when the airline lost my luggage and were the primary reason that I was able to recover it while at the resort! Thanks for the great memories!

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Three Star Kite friendly!

Food is decent, resort is nice and rooms are ok. you can expect a small issue or two like no hot water but eventually this gets fixed. This is not an ideal place for non-kiters! Very windy and kites on the beach are dangerous to tanners and pedestrians.

Viva Maya by Wyndham: Nice place hotel

Clean and good location beach wast good time of the year but definitely recomonded this location close to 5th street by walking close to Starbucks it is a nice quiet and safe place to walk around definitely recomonded

Viva Maya by Wyndham: fun and friendy resort!

Hotel Staff were great; extremely friendly, down to earth and helpful. Rooms were clean and modern - no issues. Buffet food was ok, restaurants were better. Entertainment outside of resort was easily accessible. We were a group of 4 (2 - 30 year old couples) found there to be quite a mix of ages and nationalities which we really enjoyed. Sunwing travel portion was not the greatest.

The rooms were cleaned daily but I had to request clean sheets and towels Good was ok at the buffet but booking the other redrsurants the Italian and mexican was restricted to once per week per room ! No free wifi. Big disappointment Not enough hot water. We felt drinks at the bar were a little weak. And we are not hard core drinkers! Other beach was great. Only free water sport was boogie boards! Viva Maya by Wyndham: Good Beach, Central Location

To start we booked through Holiday Market Travel, which has been bought/taken over my trip central. So there description of was different from what is currently on their website. So, some expectation we different. I was expecting a litre of water per day as per the "Smile" extras, which made a difference to me. We had to purchase water everyday. The second item it was longer transfer from the airport. Other than those two items, this is an average 3plus hotel. The free internet by the lobby is v [... read more]ery slow, it is better to walk to the Starbucks just outside the resort for better results. The town is about a 20 minutes walk depending on your speed. And in town if you choose you can take a ferry over to Cozumel. The food and drinks are average, and they do have an coffee/bar to get specialty coffees. The rooms are average, and clean, the pillows are flat or too puffy, the lighting in the room is commercial grade florescent, the lighting at night made me feel nauseated, so I left them off. Lots of activities if you want to participate, and the beach vendors really do not bug you. Overall just average.

Viva Azteca by Wyndham: Fantastic resort

The resort is not to much big. People are very kind and remind you. They are not changing too much since our last trip in 2013. We will return next year for our weeding. The animation team is very kind too. they entertain people very good and they have very good talent in dance.

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Decent resort, bad local tourists

The resort, the food, the staff, the animation team and the beach were pretty decent for the price paid. However, over the week-ends the resort got invaded by locals. They are noisy, unpolite, unconsiderate and behave like fricking savages. They were practically everywere, in the pool, on the beach, at the restaurant making sure to ruin every moment of your day with their incessant screaming, loud talking, splashing, rude playing, smoking and their annoying music. Viva Maya by Wyndham: Wonderful Resort

This was our second time at this resort. We chose vip and it was well worth it. Besides having a ground floor that was oceanfront we had our own space to sit with comfortable loungers. The food at the buffet was always delicious with lots of variety. The Mexican restaurant was our favourite a la carte. The food was delicious and they had wonderful staff. The shows every night had a theme and the entertainment staff works so hard to provide wonderful shows and dancing and singing. They also keep  [... read more]everyone busy during the day with everything from yoga and Zumba to games like darts and bocce ball. The grounds are beautiful with lush garden and we were amazed at how hard they work to keep everything so clean. The only thing you have to watch is the timeshare people approaching you. We just said we were not interested and he left us alone. Would recommend this hotel if you have kids as well. Also we were a five minute cab ride from Playa del Carmen.

Viva Dominicus Palace by Wyndham: nice

the road going into the resort its self was a disaster.The bus was 1 1/2 late picking us up to go to the airport. The rep for WestJet was no help at all. I would go again but only if the road was fixed. The resort was good overall including the staff and food.

Grand Isla Navidad Resort: Peace and good food

If you are tired of noisy resorts and large crowds, you might enjoy this place. There are few activities other than yoga and golf, but the food and service are excellent, and if you have a busy life at home you can unwind here and feel pampered.

Grand Isla Navidad Resort: Liked it so much I went back!

I booked this resort for a vacation with my family(wife and teenage daughter) in mid March of this year. My daughter had a friend who wanted to come and her family booked and came as well. We were impressed from the outset. The nicely equipped van was waiting for us at Manzanillo airport. The driver stopped at a local store to let us buy a couple of refreshments for the 25 minute drive. We arrived at the resort and checked in very quickly, our rooms were waiting for us. We had a very nice room o [... read more]verlooking the marina with two double beds. The room was clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the pool area and the food immensely. The resort was not full and service was excellent. Often times it felt like we were in a private mansion with a staff of servants. We have been many places in the Caribbean and the Mexican Mayan Riviera and this place was the best. There were lots of activities including a fun little water taxi ride to Barra de Navidad which seems to be a little hippie enclave of displaced Americans and Canadians. Shopping was good at the local handicraft market and there were some good bars and restaurants for after hours fun. We chartered a local boat to take us to a beach 10 miles up the coast, on the way we saw whales, dolphins and sea turtles. The day's adventure cost about $200.00. After returning home on a Monday I was sitting in my office with my brother and business partner. The weather was terrible and since our business is construction oriented things were slow so I looked online and low and behold the same resort was on special for just over half of what I paid for my family. We booked the space and I returned to the Grand Bay the following Monday after being home only one week. The staff at the hotel were surprised to see me back but treated my brother and I very well for my second week there. We chartered a boat for a couple of hours and caught one robalo which we gave to the operator. The next day we had many compliments from the staff on the delicious meal they had courtesy of our donated fish. Needless to say I plan on returning this year to the Grand Bay. Maybe I'll try the golf package, I hear they have a great course.

Beautiful resort and service; Quiet evenings Usual good selection of foods at the buffet table and one great a la carte restaurant that seemed to never be busy Location, location, location; near Barra but other than sampling local village, there was no real need to leave This resort did not have the (sometime) overwhelming partying, beach peddlers, off-site activities that you may find in, say, Vallarta or Cabos Better suited to an older crowd although there were families there as well.
