Friendly resort

The grounds and size of the resort were perfect. The service was expectionally friendly and always accomodating! The rooms were comfortable but needs some renovations to be a 5 star resort. The food at the buffet was a bit better than average. There were no themes, therefore pretty much the same choices night after night. The a la carte restaurants are a nice change with great service. The resort beach is small, a lot of coral ( great for those who want to snorkle), needs more attention when the [... read more] winds bring in the seaweed. Otherwise, you can walk the beautiful beach with the soft white sand Cuba is known for.

Relaxing vacation

A quiet, well laid out & well kept facility with very friendly & competent staff but it is starting to show it's age a bit. Swimmers will be disappointed by the beach as there is a lot of coral making entry difficult and quite small & crowded where the umbrella's are. Entertainment is varied & competent. Food is a bit of an issue. While their is lots of it, we found that they need to cater more to healthy eating, not enough whole grains, fresh vegetables, too much salt & sugar but the seafood is [... read more] great. I think for Cuba it is a very good choice but not 5 star as advertised.

Fabulous

The grounds were beautiful with lots of area to walk and even a botanical garden. The staff were very professional, friendly and good at their jobs. The food was great with lots of variety. The Al a cartes were excellent with great offerings. The beach was beautiful and the snorkelling was usual for Cuba. Our only recommendation is not to fly with Cabanna Air as our plane was in rough shape and caused delays. Although the staff were extremely competent.

Sophisticated resort

Attentive and efficient service from the moment we arrived. Enjoyed a glass of champagn during the check in process while our bags were carefully delivered to our ocean view room. Very impressive start! Facilities and grounds well maintained by a friendly and competent staff. Many spoke english/ french quite well. A excellent variety of food choices including at the buffet, beach and pool cafes, and the a la cart restaurants. Terrific resort for older couples and romantics.

A little paradise.

Beautiful, small adults only resort in a great location, good snorkeling, the weather was perfect, food was great. Service is good and friendly. Visited towns of Holguin and Guardalavaca. Had a great time.

Wonderful Resort

We loved the grounds of this resort. Also the pool and cliff side area as there were lovely views from everywhere and enough lounges for everyone any time. The staff was exceptionally friendly in all areas. A room request on our part was cheerfully accommodated. We found the Japanese restaurant to be outstanding - We would suggest a few more garbage cans throughout the grounds and another lady's toilet on the beach. We hope to return soon. Thanks to all the staff.

Beautifu holiday

We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of this hotel. The view of our balcony was amazing, we enjoyed looking at the ocean, the boats and even the dark skies before a rain shower. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our beds were made up beautiful and the girls were very friendly also. The gardener worked very hard to make a new flower bed at our building, one of the beds that made the grounds look even more beautiful than they were already. Overall a very nice relaxing holiday.

Favorite place

This has been my 2nd visit to this resort after referral from my father who has been there more then 20 times. The resort is very clean and the staff are amazing. Contrary to belief the food is top notch and the restaurants are amazing. Many people that you talk too on the resort are return guests, if that doesn't speak for itself. I would recommend and have recommended this resort to many people and plan to return next year. The resort has a lot to offer many people free scuba diving, aerobics, [... read more] volleyball, free paddle and catamaran boat rides and the off beach snorkelling is unreal. Give Paradisus Rio De Oro a try you wont be disappointed.

Nice resort

Resort provides excellent food and has a nice clean accommodation. Resort is for adults only and is very quiet. No children are allowed. Beach is nearby and is very nice. Evening entertainment only so-so.

Beyond Friendliness

What a beautiful place to come and relax. The food was more then I expected for a Cuban resort. The variety of meats and desserts were amazing. The pizza that they made was my favourite for lunch. Their latte's were my favourite. The staff was so pleasant and aimed to please you at all times. Our first night I found hard due to the smell of mould which caused my asthma to flare up. In the morning I expressed my concern and they said no problem we will have a room for you at 2 pm today. At 2 pm m [... read more]y room was ready and was wonderful. After a couple of days on the bed we found it to be quite hard and I could feel the coils. We expressed how much we love the resort, it is very clean and they have lovely staff but the bed is hard. They had foam toppers on by that afternoon and we slept like babies the next few days. What resort is willing to go to the end degree to please their customers. My husband snorkels and he says it was great plus the Scuba is included in your package. Their was ample lounge chairs and the Yoga was pleasant and relaxing, which Elizabeth did a great job. Anna Bella is a wonderful girl who taught dancing. Their were many pleasant workers, sorry I don't remember all their names. But thank you for giving us a relaxing time at such a wonderful resort.

Loved this resort.

First if all 10 stars goes to the service....food was fabulous. Can't go wrong with a resort being on a cliff and still steps away from the ocean. Would go again and again. Amazingly beautiful........

Amazing people. Amazing service.

Simply beautiful! Relaxing! SPA is out of this world. People are exceptionally well trained, always with a smile on their faces and touch of humor in their comments. Loved every moment. Excellent enterteinment.

Great resort

Flew with AC Rouge - not the gratest airline, no inflight movies, food can be purchased. Seating quite uncomfortable. Upgrades can be purchased but you're not getting much more legroom. Best seat when you fly Airbus and are 6'+ are 18A or 18F. Airport in Holguin is terrible, waited over an hour at customs to get in the country a bit faster on the return flight. Stayed in Royal Service (yes it is more expensive but worth it) side room 8624 - with ocean view, ideally situated between beach and res [... read more]taurant : outdoor shower, huge bathroom, butler service, free alcohol in the room, great room service, huge balcony. Peaceful and quiet, very well kept grounds and public areas. A la carte/buffet breakfast, great a la carte lunches & dinners. Fantastic infinity pool - although some grating around the pool is broken and unsafe. Private beach needs to be cleaned more often as it was full of sea weeds every day. A la carte restaurants in main resort are so, so - not really worth the trouble booking. Main resort has super buffet lot of choices. Overall great resort and worth spending some extra $$ for RS.

Great relaxing vacation at Paradisus Rio de Oro

This is our second visit to this resort in Guardalavaca, Cuba. It is a quiet, well run, clean resort in the 4.5 to 5 star range for Cuba. The food is excellent and the staff are so friendly it feels like our second home in Cuba.

Nice resort but ...

The rooms were clean and nice and the food was really, really good. Nice array of drinks as well. Beach was long enough to have a good walk but near the hotel it was hard to get out far enough to swim as lots of rocks, coral, etc. further along the beach swimming was much better. The resort itself is beautiful with stunning views. Night life so so. Usual dance shows and early entertainment in the lobby. However, disco seriously smelled of mould and so using it was impossible - rarely did I see  [... read more]anyone in there. They really need to add more dancing music at night, other than Cuban and perhaps karaoke or something as you pretty well have to make your own entertainment after 10 pm. The spa was great but massages too expensive for Cuba given that the CUC is on par with American dollars. The spa was never busy and that's probably why. I had an massage and it was great. The private beach at the spa is great as well. Then water for showering is hard and has a lot of Chemicals in it and very hard on the hair so if you have colour in your hair beware. Also, Internet sporadic at best, only available in the lobby and expensive (this may be different at the Royal suites) Staff were great and very accommodating. If I went again I'd stay in the royal suites end.

Quite, peacefull and great snorkling!

Lovely time! The staff was amazing, room was bright, airy and clean. The food was ok for cuba. The hotel was beautiful. The staff gets you involved in activities. All in all a great vacation. I would go back again! We meet an older couple who had been to Cuba 85 times. This was one of their favorite resorts.

Second time almost as great as the first!

Well kept grounds. Great service. Only disappoint is internet service. Good choice and variety of food. Good snorkelling off the beach. Fun on the Hop on Hop off bus. Interesting and friendly people to meet at the lobby bar.

Out of this world resort

Accommodation 10+ Royal Service staff are a credit to the resort. From the bartenders to the maids to reception desk couldn't ask for more. Grounds / Gardens are absolutely amazing. Gardeners very friendly. You want a resort that has everything. Go Paradisis Rio De Oro!

They Got It Right

This hotel is known for its excellent service. We were surprised to meet so many guests who have come back to this same hotel more than three times. We've been in the Caribbean many times and may have repeated the city more than once, but never the same resort. I can see why this place has such a loyal following. We got a junior suite and upgraded to a junior deluxe before arriving. This was the first time I was able to have a conversation with a hotel about my upgrade options before arriving.  [... read more]This was also the first time i was able to reserve a specialty restaurant before arrival. (We heard that the Japanese was quite popular and difficult to get a reservation). I'm a big fan of Air bnb when I travel because you can ask questions of your host. This was the first hotel that I was able to ask a few questions online and get prompt responses. The grounds were impeccably kept up, the food was great and the nearby activities were awesome. We just might break our rule and come back to the same hotel a second time.
