Holiday Inn Resort Los Cabos: Vacation not as planed
wife and I booked a vacation at Holiday Inn Los Cabos Mexico, all was fine till we arrived and my wife wanted an ocean view room instead of garden view, the clerk said it would be an extra $ 60 dollars with no further questions or explanation I agreed to pay for an ocean view room. Room was very nice with a safe that was open, we were not familiar with the how to program the safe and thought it would also be an extra charge to use the safe so didn't bother asking, my wife put her credit cards di[... read more]vers licences and $ 500.00 Canadian under the mattress thinking if someone comes to steal something they would not look under the mattress, instead just grabbing something quickly that is visible and run out. The charge to my visa was just over $7900.00 pesos, not being familiar with the money exchange didn't question it till the next day when I exchanged $ 100 Canadian dollars and received almost $ 1400 pesos, doing the math in my head quickly I concluded the $7900.00 pesos was not equal to nowhere near 60 dollars...the clerk at the desk said the charge was correct for it is 60 dollars a night.. (didn't say that last night) I thought that was too much for my budget and asked the manager if we could go back to garden view room, Manager said they would charge me for the one night and switch rooms, Agreed and said thank you very much.. very honest and nice. when moving out of the room my wife forgot about the money and cards under the mattress, just one hour after we remembered and quickly asked at the desk if we could go back to get the money, we got to the room and it was already made up and clean, there was no money or cards under the mattress. We explained to the manager that the only possible culprit could be the cleaning lady because she is the only person that was in the room since and the only person that would go under the mattress when she tucks the bed sheet under. Manager said not to worry Sir. they would scan the lock to see who all entered the room and security would investigate, we showed the security guard the exact spot where the money was as requested then he started his investigation, he tore the room apart turning over both beds TV stand sofa the fridge and night stands cloths closet, thought that was strange since we should him the exact sport on the one bed. Then we all went back to our new room and he tore that room apart also looking in my wife's purse. Talking to the manager the next day when he informed us that the cleaning lady said she didn't find anything in the room, that we have no proof the money was there, we have no proof the cleaning lady took the money and the hotel's policy is that they are not responsible for guests belongings. Thought the hole fiasco of tearing up the two rooms and whole investigation filling out forms was all for show when that one policy (we are not responsible for guests belongs) wipes out all of the above... I think of my self as a logical person and try to live my life by some king of logic in every situation and I do agree that if the hotel's policy was any different that there would be a lot of fraudulent claims buy your guests and the hotel would go bank-roped very quickly... it would also be very difficult to keep track of everyone's belongings for the hotel so the only protection and logical policy would be ( we are not responsible) so the hotel can not control the guests.....
I must add a small amount of people are aware of this policy for if they new hotels are not responsible they would be scared to even travel. But the hotel can control the staff. See the staff knows the hotels policy and know there will be no investigation or reprimand if they are accused of any theft, with that in their mind there is no fear or much thought given when the opportunity to take something arrives. I make $ 500 dollars in two days, the cleaning lady in Mexico has to work a whole month for that so I can see why she would want to keep it... but on the other hand I am sure many other guests leave a tip on the bed every day for them. in my case it was $ 5 dollars.
if the employees new that the hotels policy is that if an employee is accused of stealing if the evidence is pointing only to them they would be fired, then when they are faced with a decision of do I keep this $ 500 dollars and risk loosing my $ 30.000 dollar job over this $ 500 dollar. (most people are logical) I think there would be a lot less claims from guests and the hotel would have better rating with lot less negative reviews. in this case the employees are biting the hand that feeds them and making bad reviews for the hotel that they them selves make a living at... knowingly or not.
Dear Madam/Sir. judging by the size of your multi Billion dollar company who am I a poor carpenter to tell you what to do, you're obviously in business many years and are making a profit every year and consider the poor reviews not to be that important but given the logical person that I am, if your company is doing so well with bad reviews it would be doing so much better with great reviews... it would not take a great expense to achieve either, just change your policy with your employees.
So just thing about this in some kind of logic, you spent over half a million dollars on the locks on the doors to protect the guests and you give master keys to your employees. and your policy gave them free rain for they know there will be no reprimand. ( NOT LOGICAL )
WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR REPLY...
Vince.

Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach: Serene Vacation on Awe-Inspiring Grounds
This resort would be absolutely perfect for couples looking for a quiet, relaxing and romantic getaway set against a gorgeous backdrop of ocean and mountain landscaping. However, families with children looking for evening entertainment, or patrons with significant all-inclusive experience around Mexico, would be well-served to look elsewhere.
What we loved: The scenery, the sunsets, the spectacularly manicured grounds absolutely vibrant with colours and cacti, the spacious rooms, the expa[... read more]nsive stretch of unswimmable beach and the sound of surf at your patio window, the friendly staff and service from almost all employees, the number of pool options, the fact that their hot tubs were actually "hot" (many jacuzzis at Mexican AI's are just bubbling circles of sun-heated luke warm water), the After Bar (a sports bar with many TVs), the dining options at The Market (a central food court with lots of options for even the pickiest eaters), the 24-hour room service and premium liquor brands available as part of the AI package, and finally the ability to go check out the Sea of Cortez side and swim in the ocean at their sister resort, The Rose, right in town. It was also a super clean resort.
What we wished was different: As much fun as it was to be zipped up and down the steep mountain terrain by friendly "Speedy Gonzales" golf cart drivers, it got old after a while and we just wished we could make our own way around the resort on foot. Unfortunately it is so damn steep from the Skypool to the Beach that it's not really an option to walk more than once or twice during your vacation, unless you're there specifically for the cardio workout and not to relax! Secondly, there was only one buffet and one a'la carte restaurant as part of the AI package. Other restaurants wanted a USD $30+ premium per diner to attend, so we stuck to what was part of our package. Considering the buffet never really knocked our socks off for any meal of the day, we doubled up on the Asian a'la carte and did most of our dining from the snacks menu (poolside, room service or The After Bar) or from The Market food court. The poolside service ranged from amazing to crappy depending on the mood of your server, so that was a bit of a letdown. Finally, our kids (and us) were disappointed with the fact that The After kicked out minors after 9pm, but there was absolutely nothing else for families to do at that point. No evening entertainment, no ice cream dispensers available poolside as so many Mexican AI's and cruise ships have made available. Just back to your room to chill before bed if you weren't interested in swimming until 10pm. And finally, it kind of bugged me that with the exception of some caged tropical birds, we didn't see a single animal like the coati and iguanas that roam openly over so many other resorts. I like the fauna of Mexico as much as the flora, but it isn't found here.
Final Verdict: It was still great value for the money, and I might return here with just my wife if we were looking for a low-key, romantic getaway without the usual chaos of Mexican night life or pool party antics...and even spring the extra dough to try the other a'la cartes. As a family though, we will not return.
We need more to do in the evenings after the bars have kicked out the kids long before their bedtime, and I want them to have ice-cream machines and poolside snack service long after 5pm. The room service was great, tasty and fast here...but we didn't come to Mexico for a week to spend it in our room which is what I suspect most honeymooners are doing here!

Royal Solaris: Great resort
In my experience, I found that the rooms were clean, pools had lots of room, drinks were cold, and the activities were fun. The part that fell short for me and my group was the food. You could always find something that was edible, but nothing that was outstanding. We did end up eating off the resort a few times.

Grand Decameron Los Cabos: Wonderful holiday
We have stayed at other Royal Decamerons, and this one is right on par with the others. Very clean resort, staff are friendly and have a good command of English. The photos shown on the various sites of this hotel's rooms and common areas are dated, and things are bit more faded and worn than advertised, but in good condition. There was plenty of variation at the buffet (but you will always get the chronic complainers) but we found it to be very good. The Westjet rep was very helpful in organiz[... read more]ing my husbands scuba diving tours, and our tour of Cabo San Lucas. The entertainment in the evening was very good. Our favorite was the Mexican history, the costumes were fantastic. This resort is not large, and is quiet after the evening show is over. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, this is your resort.

Royal Solaris: Great resort!!
We have travelled a lot in Mexico and really enjoyed our stay at this resort! My only complaint would be the really cold pool! It is very clean and well maintained but uncomfortable to get in. I do realize that because we went in January it is colder in the mornings and evenings and more difficult for the pool to be warm but it was freezing! Everything else was great!!! Ramon our poolside bartender was amazing and lots of fun!!

Breathless Cabo San Lucas: Breathless Cabo San Lucas - Great location, great view, average food
Breathless has a terrific location right on the marina with an amazing view of the boats and the ocean, it is also on a swimmable beach which was really good (many/most beaches are not swimmable in Cabo).
There are 2 pools at Breathless both of which are very nice. One pool is more of a relaxation pool with a great view of the marina and no loud music playing. The other pool is a party pool with a really good DJ and a nice view of the ocean. There is also an online live CAM at the party pool [... read more]that can be seen here: https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/mexico/baja-california-sur/cabo-san-lucas/cabo-san-lucas.html
The room was very nice and clean with a really comfortable bed, plenty of amenities that were replaced multiple times a day. The bar fridge contained sodas, water and Corona's. The view of the marina was also terrific from the balcony. The quality of the shampoo/body wash/conditioner etc was very good.
The restaurants at Breathless were good but IMO are a step behind the other Secrets and Karisma chain resorts I have been to. If food is a top priority for you, I would choose Secrets Puerto Los Cabos over Breathless for this reason alone. Room service was really good and came delivered as ordered each time.
The areas directly outside Breathless felt very safe and walkable any time during the day or evening.
The nightly entertainment is top notch with plenty of skilled dancers, singers and entertainers.
All in all Breathless is a very nice "party" resort with a great marina/beach view in a great location. I recommend it to those who like to enjoy drinks and sun by the pool all day in a good party atmosphere. For those who demand the best food and are looking for a "quieter" vacation, I would perhaps look at Secrets Puerto Los Cabos instead.

Riu Palace Baja California: Great resort!
A newer resort...some kinks still to be worked out (your floor depends on which elevator you take!). Staff mean well and try hard but need to let guests pass first (they usually barge through but not in a rude way if that makes any sense).
Food was of very good quality. Rooms were clean, modern and bright. Numerous pools to lay beside. A short taxi ride to town.
I would stay there again! Thank you Gina for a great recommendation :)

Krystal Grand Los Cabos: Decent but underwhelming resort..
This is decent hotel for the budget conscious. It is close to the highway so be prepared for some noise. Service throughout the resort was excellent! Nice to have a Martini bar and Coffee bas separate. The al-la-carte restaurants were good although closed on occasion. The buffet was weak (variety, temperature of food) and sometimes closed.
Full disclosure - we were traveling with a 2.5 year old and booked this resort because of the kids water play area. The kids pool and play area was [... read more]so cold that we could not utilize it which was disappointing. The other pools were a bit cool but usually ok. The hours of the buffet are annoying, especially with younger kids. The buffet closes at 11:30am, may or may not reopen for lunch, and may open for dinner around 6:30pm.
The beach is gorgeous although the strength of the waves kept most people out of the water. This is not a party resort and hence relatively quiet at night which is nice. Rooms all have ocean views. Comfy beds.. relatively clean.
This is a 3 star resort which offers ok amenities. If the kids pool/play area was warmer and the food had better access and variety, this would a 4 star for us.
Thanks,

Riu Palace Baja California: Disappointed
We paid a lot of money to come to this hotel. I have been to other Riu properties and they were always fantastic. I suppose the hotel will be fine once they get the proper staff in place and it’s been opened a little longer but for now they should be offering deals to stay there since they are not ready nor have the full staff to accommodate. The room smelled of sewage which we continually told them everyday when we can back from the pool. They would send someone to spray the room. Didn’t he[... read more]lp there is definitely a problem going on. They should have given us another room since the hotel was empty. We requested a high floor near the pool. They gave us a room at the back of the hotel on the ground floor. Request was not even considered. Ran out of propane in the heaters. Took 3 days to fill back up. It was cold at night they should have had those filled immediately or had back up.

Holiday Inn Resort Los Cabos: Amazingly friendly staff
Amazingly friendly staff, everything was very clean, the food was very good excellent selection and again I can't say enough good things about the entire staff. I really like that it was the last resort on the beach so when you went walking and you were away from all of the hotels and resorts which made it very pleasant and give you the effect that you were really truly away from the cities in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Grand Decameron Los Cabos: nice resort
We really enjoyed the resort liked the low key vibe, food was good, staff were all really good! We did have one issue...Upon returning to our room to do a quick change as we had dinner plans elsewhere. When trying to get in our room keys would not work, asked a worker that was in the area if he could help so he called the desk and they asked him to have us come to the front desk, upon arriving they informed us there was a water issue and they needed us to move rooms. We weren't too happy as we[... read more] were on a time constraint but we understood and moved rooms. As being in such a rush I misplaced a couple of things so the next day I decided to knock on the door and just see if someone was working in the room. To my surprise a gentleman answered the door and was now booked in our room and from what I got from him he had been in since the evening before. Our new room was fine, not as nice as the one we were in but it was the point of their dishonesty that upset us most! Up until that point we would of revisited this resort for sure, but not so sure now?? I will say yes to recommending to a friend because everything else was fairly good. Thanks

Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach: Return trip to Cabo
This is my 4th time to Cabo, my first time at Sunset Beach.
PROS
- beautiful setting, location and buildings (away from tourist traps, quiet, built into the hills). Everything was very well maintained and manicured. You can see both the sunrise and sunset from the resort, it's breathtaking.
The bellboys and front lobby folks at both the market and maun lobby were fast, efficient and helpful
- room service was prompt and tasty all but twice
- all rooms had ocean views, with the best being [... read more]from the top floors. Ask for the 4th floor in the villas, we did and were given an amazing room by their front desk at the market
- nearly all the waiters were very friendly, we tipped accordingly, especially on Christmas eve and day
- when our safe malfunctioned, guest services had someone at our suite inside 10mins, and he fixed it right away
- the golfcart drivers were really friendly and efficient. Our driver came quickly to pick up our bags on the way out. The same on our arrival. I tipped 10usd both times
- the pool waiters were a great feature, you were served food and drinks at your lounge chair
- the free shuttles to the sister resorts were a great way to visit Medano Beach and go down to the marina without paying for a taxi
- the maids were amazing, they did a fantastic job. On a day when we requested no service (there is a button in your room), they followed up with a call to ensure we had all we needed.
- the brunch on Sunday and on Christmas day were great, as was the Christmas eve Mexican feast
- the staff had a ton of patience for some very rude and demanding high maintenance guests. I wouldn't have been able to hold my tongue, kudos to them for handling so much of it with grace
- the sky pool was beautiful, and it was also nice having our own smaller, communal pool outside of our villa
CONS
- difficult to get around (resort is large and all uphill/downhill, relying on golf carts for small children, elderly, high heels or to get to opposite ends of the property). We opted to walk a lot.
- consierge or guest services could not get us a Christmas tree in our room, even a tiny one, even when I said I would pay for it. It was my sons' first holiday away from home and we went without a tree. To his credit, the gentleman at guest services did ask around for us.
- there are coffee pot and filters in the rooms but, you had to buy coffee grinds and cream/sugar, which resulted in us having to order room service daily. Same for water, as per below.
- No water bottles in the room, we had to use either room service or, during open hours, a bar
- once room service took 1hr and 40min (breakfast) and once my youngest son ordered a burger well done and I didnt notice until he ate a 1/4 of it that it was raw. It also arrived cold.
- My youngest son and I broke out in hives on the 4th day; we're both allergic to bed bug bites and my son kept waking up with welts like mosquitoes but we never saw any in our room. It wasnt until our last night at bedtime that I actually saw bugs, but we had to be up at 6am so we had to tough it out. I put my sons in head to toe long sleeve PJs and socks.
- The buffet at breakfast was far too small, save for Sunday brunch and Christmas day, given the amount of people they seat.
- the beach is not swimmable, though for me this isn't really a con as I don't normally visit Cabo for this, but I had my sons for the first time and they like to swim. Again for me it's not a con and not what I visit Cabo for. We used the shuttle to the other resort, however, and were able to swim at Rose/Medano Beach.
- I was very disappointed in how little anything was done in the way of Christmas activities. I follow most of the local resorts in the area on IG and a lot of them seemed to put more effort into holiday activities for the children
- there was no balls or sports equipment for rent, and virtually no activities unless you're childless and can visit their sister resort, Pacifica. There is also no evening entertainment.
- I understand there are both EP and all inclusive at this resort but constantly being asked for your room number and signing for every single thing you ate/drank became tiresome, especially since we still had to wear the "look at me I'm a tourist" wristbands
- we were only a family of three, a rollaway bed was something we were provided at the Hyatt Ziva but not here. My youngest son is 10 and we shared a bed here.
- be aware that the resort will try to sell you a timeshare as soon as you arrive. If you suffer the 2hr "breakfast" sales pitch, you are rewarded with free goodies (pro!) but trust me when I say you suffer for it (con!) You must bring your spouse if you have one, which means your children have to go, too. If you like free things: before you arrive at the hotel go online and check out Cabo Expeditions, what appears to be the largest and most dependable tour/excursion operators in the area. Choose an excursion and tell the pitcher of the sales breakfast you'll attend (2 days from then, dont go the day after you arrive) if your excursion is covered for you and your party. If you arent up for that they'll also give you a spa credit or free meals at one of the $$$ restaurants.
- we rented a cabana at the sky pool that was supposed to come with a bottle of prosecco, a cheese platter and a fruit tray; we didn't receive any of that but were still charged 55usd. My 13yr old son was served a pina colada with rum, despite his wearing the underage wristband
-There were 2 days we couldn't get a single spot at any of 3 pools

Riu Palace Baja California: Amazing Resort
The food and service was second to none. The atmosphere and scenery is beautiful. There are three items that I would recommend being looked at: 1) when someone is too drunk instead of giving them a bucket to throw up in, take away their band so they can no longer drink for a period of time. Any kind of fighting the persons should be kicked out of the resort. 2) the stairs need to have a strip on the bottom of the stairs, the brown seems to blend into the next stair making it a trip hazard. [... read more]3) Do not let vacationers put their own music on, the resort picks the music and that is it. There seem to be a lot of tension when one group wanted their music and not everyone appreciated it. If the resort is in control of the music that will eliminate discussion on music.

Krystal Grand Los Cabos: Fabulous Customer Service
This was our second time staying at the Krystal Grand in Los Cabos. We booked our room in the altitude tower and the view was spectacular. The entire resort is so clean, and the staff are friendly and very helpful. The food was good in all of the venues with lots of selection. We will definitely go back again!
