The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Lovely resort however.....

The resort was generally nice. Layout was interesting. Had to always show our cards for proof that we were part of the resort. A bit annoying. Wrist band would have been better as card not always easy to carry. We were in villa 18 - farthest away from the beach - a good 8-10 minute walk. The villa itself had a spacious room however construction for villa 19 was underway so it would wake us up early each morning. 6 days of construction (mon-sat) - early morning into evening hours. We  [... read more]were not in our room for the day for the most part as too far to walk back and forth with little ones but definitely felt the noise in the morning and evening. If kids had to nap then it would have been an issue. No views from any rooms worth talking about. Resort is situated in a forest type of area which is lovely but no "beach/ocean" views which we were told prior to booking but did not realize overall effect of NO nearby ocean from our room. Rooms were clean but toiletries were abysmal and no matter how many times we asked, we could not get shampoo refills. Used soap etc to make up for it. Toiletries were poor in quality. Food was absolutely outstanding. Service in the restaurants were very good for the most part. BUT can you believe that after spending all this much money for an all inclusive, you would need to pay $7 for a latte at Starbucks as not included (only did it once) and had to search and search for a coffee for the morning and late afternoon. And to be rudely told at the juice bar that coffee is only available at the starbucks for a fee. We found a couple of other places that would often run out of milk or not be hot enough but oh well. Room coffee not tolerable. The spa was good - very expensive - have experienced better however still made use of it. I personally had a massage but was left with a wicked headache from the head massage that lasted two days and although I reported it to the spa staff they could care less. The rest of the family had great massages. Front desk service was ok - surprised that no one really smiled and surely did not feel welcomed and felt as if we were intruding. So basically avoided them as much as possible. Activities staff were lots of fun - however looking for meals as they were not allowed to ask for food so needed us to purchase on their behalf. Felt a bit slimy but I guess ok. One day they had beautiful coconuts with drinks - when we went to get ours they informed us it was $5 US per drink. Absolutely cheesy given that we are supposed to be at an all inclusive. Not a place to go if you are a family that likes the beach. Rocky and small. However kids loved it and we managed to walk down the beach areas over the rocks so overall ok not brilliant. Went to neighbouring resorts to enjoy the beach on days that were ocean rough. Beach chairs ok not super comfortable but met our needs. Pools are beautiful. Could not get a chair by the pool but that's ok as we preferred the beach. Overall, we did relax and enjoy - the walking was good for us for the most part.Would I go back again - not to this particular resort but definitely to an Azul property that has a beautiful beach as this is our second Azul property and the food has been outstanding. Both Azul properties we have been to have had poor beaches. Will keep searching.

Azul Fives is a good resort. Our room was good, and the food was good. We had smoothies a few times of day. There were evenings when certain restaurants would move their tables outside which was a fun change. We especially liked the sushi restaurant. We saw monkeys almost every day, as well as a couple other animals that we don't have at home. We would definitely return.

Azul Fives provided everything we needed for our vacation. The facility was great, the food was good with lots of variety, and the staff were very helpful. We had been on cruises before that had lots of activities especially in the evening which we missed that there was more of.

Nickelodeon Hotel Punta Cana: Fun resort for kids, relaxing for parents, despite the unexpected

This resort is immaculate and has lots of fun activities for kids under 10. The food was good, compared to other resorts we've been to. The beach, pool, and AquaNick are all awesome. We had to seek emergency medical care for our son, which resulted in 3 days in the hospital. Even though the medical issue had nothing to do with the resort, we would have appreciated more assistance from the resort and maybe even an acknowledgement of the fact that we lost three days out of our week. The hotel does need to work on service-- restaurants had unpredictable hours and even though staff obviously were trained in being polite and in ending every sentence with "it was my pleasure", the service seemed inauthentic. There definitely seemed to be protocols in place, but the staff would have been more effective if they were able to make decisions themselves instead of always having to check with a manager. This will likely come in time since the resort is so new. Also, the concierge service is not at all helpful and I would have preferred to deal with restaurants and spa myself. The concierges I encountered (with the exception of one good one) made me feel vulnerable, like they were out to "get me" (e.g. Sales pitch for something) The evening entertainment was great and we would have had a wonderful time, were it not for our unfortunate medical issue.

Beautiful resort and the food was amazing. Beach was narrow - if you are all about the beach this is not the resort for you. Also, there is a newer section (buildings 15-18) but a bit of a hike to the beach. We do NOT recommend the "Deluxe Room" (the most basic room at the resort) where we stayed for a family of four. Room is quite small, very poorly designed, and a bit run down. For a 5 star resort, the deluxe rooms are more like a 3 star hotel.

Hotel is growing but the staff are so kind and helpful and the fact that it is spread out with multiple long pools allows for you to choose quiet areas or not so quiet. New Thai restaurant and Asian are nice addition. The new evening entertainment in the brand new courtyard is pretty awesome

Had a great time at this resort. The food was great, the rooms were very nice and clean and the staff and the service were excellent. The only thing that could improve would be to have a few more loungers around the pools and stop people from putting there towels on them first thing in the morning and not returning all day.

We were all inclusive - excellent food - they do not take reservations at the dining rooms If you are beach walkers - no problem - lots of walking both directions beach vendors do not harass at all - and you can have an awesome 1 hour massage on the beach for $30.00 U.S. construction going on at their pier which is pretty much destroyed - so can be noisy if you like to spend time on the beach all staff very attentive and at the restaurants they will try to upsell their wine list the all inc [... read more]lusive wine selection they offer was very good for our tastes our room was the 1 bedroom Jacuzzi suite. On arrival they offered the sky deck option for an additional $60.00/night - which we declined. When we got to our room - voila, we actually had that sky view room. I guess, they wanted to squeeze some more $$ out of us - before they gave us this room, probably because that was all that was available. Just wish they had have just said to us - enjoy this beautiful upgraded room - at no charge. There is lots of walking - but we knew that, and we actually enjoy the exercise. The Gin Bar is amazing - try it!!! Trip Advisor had a promo on the beach one day for lunch - the selection of appetizers was amazing - even candy apples, cotton candy, sushi, and much more same old complaint about towels being left on the pool deck chairs unattended for hours...not a fault of the resort by any means - inconsiderate people!!!! same old, same old yes, you should try this resort!

staff are super friendly and accommodating. Need more chairs around pools (beach front pool and other pools). Bit pricey can find other equivalent resorts for less money. Rooms on top floor do not have cover over balcony making it tough with inclement weather. Standard rooms have 2 double beds

The hotel was beautiful and the beach was nice except the water was rough and the service was terrible. They were booked to capacity and I think they couldn't handle it. The restaurant were nice but there was not enough staff and it was very slow. We went to the character breakfast and the kids enjoyed it but it was not worth paying for (ours was included)

El Dorado Seaside Suites: Slice of heaven!

What a wonderful vacation we had at El Dorado seaside resort. From the moment we arrived till we left, we felt well taken care of. Staff were always happy to answer any questions we had but were never pushy to sell extra services. Rooms were spacious, clean and well stocked with a beautiful Jacuzzi in each washroom. The view from every room is lovely, looking directly out to the beach and waterfront. First resort I have stayed at where the food was actually good ! So impressed that we bought a vacation membership to Karisma resorts. Pool just off our terrace, lounge bed on the terrace, 24 hour room service...hardly needed to leave our room!

Selection Riviera Cancun: Amazing Resort

This is our second visit to this resort and they did not disappoint. There is honestly nothing bad I can say about it. From the food to the room to the pool everything was top notch. Our room was huge with the big Jacuzzi tub in it. All the food including room service and buffet was delicious and no lines to wait in to make reservations for restaurants. El Dorado Royale: Very good resort

Well maintained resort with good restaurants and well trained and attentive staff. Room was nice but the bathroom being open to the rest of the room was rather odd. We would be happy to return to this resort.

I have had some very disappointing destination vacations and some exceptional experiences. The Azul was one of those rated as exceptional. The resort was very well maintained, the food was first rate and the drinks were perfect. The employees appeared happy in their jobs and very helpful. That is Hugh for me as a happy employee will go out of their way to assist you. I did not travel with small children but I was most impressed with what they offered young families. This resort was over valued and misrepresented by the travel agent. New - yes. Ready for tourists - not really. The Beach was a disappointment. Narrow, very rough, near impossible to walk in bare feet. Men all day in the water with chopper cutting up the rock. Could not walk in water far too rough and seaweed galore. The beach is on a hill so could not get comfortable on lounges as you always felt like sliding or tipping over. If you weren't up and on beach by 6am and claiming a spot you could n [... read more]ot get one. People would lay claim and not show up till end of day and no one went around to clear spot for those that were there. Very disappointing - not a cheap holiday and it was bad. Food was second issue. Everything tasted the same - everything was the same everyday just thrown in a different pot or sauce. The fish was always over cooked - even if ordered and not taken from buffet. The best meal we had all week was at Bubba Gump at the airport when we were leaving. We did try every restaurant at the resort if had to pick guess the Asian was okay. One major issue was to get to the restaurants up at the main building you had to go past the sewage dump and it was nasty - you could not get the smell out of your head. First and almost everytime passing this stretch you are challenged not to throw up - and we were there in winter not sure how it would be in hot weather but it was gross and it isn't like you can avoid it you have to go that way to get to the restaurants - most unpleasant! The other really annoying discovery - the rooms! We were excited to hear everyone has an ocean view. And we did. What they don't explain is that to get the ocen view they built the hotel on a big arc - half curve all facing out and at the bottom of all of this are the swimming pools and in the swimming pool is the swim up bar. All lovely until the rest sinks in - it is an echo chamber. The wind blows in off the ocean - into the echo chamber and all the laughter of people having fun on their holiday fills the rooms including those that have had too much to drink at the bar and are now loudly enjoying their time - swearing, joking, all in the spirit of good fun and holiday but you don't want to hear it, you are not with them you have gone back to the room to rest - oooppps forget that you are in the echo chamber and can't shut the noise out. Oh did I mention there is a night club in the middle of the echo chamber on the 4 th floor that because of the way the building is built - that beautiful selling point - everyone has an ocean view - well the breeze blows in and you get to hear all the music and noise of the night club until it closes at 1, 2 or 3am - how wonderful - might as well just stay up for your early excursion cause you won't get any sleep. Oh and the all inclusive - mini bar - featured as a bonus in everyroom - great it is filled with pop and beer. Seriously not much of mini bar any other inclusive has had a full range of options not this one and we don't drink beer - so that too was a rip off. But there was a Starbucks and you could purchase from them anytime they were open. Last time I checked All Inclusive meant - no need to carry money - everything included guess they forgot that. This resort was nothing like it was sold. We were robbed of a vacation in time, relaxation and dollars. Tripcentral did us no favor in misrepresenting the excellence of this resort - we were very clear as to what we wanted and it was so far off the mark they should have paid us to go there. Would not recommend the resort or tripcentral.

The ride from airport didn't seem too long, Alex from Transat kept us entertained. Check in was a breeze and quick. Our room was outstanding, we had a jacuzzi suite in building 9 which was pretty much in the middle of the resort. There is a fair amount of walking but we enjoyed the gardens on the way. There is also golf carts touring around that will pick you up. The people on the resort were some of the most pleasant I have ever dealt with. First off our flight was on time and then the pilot had the nerve to get us there early, upon arrival the sun had this crazy idea to show up and due to the heat we were forced to drink cold beer, Really!!!!!. Our bus was a full size and top notch with a bathroom so we were forced to drink another cold beer. Really !!!!. we arrived and the check in was way too fast and the staff was over whelming nice Really !!!. our room was ready and clean and the fridge was full of beer Really !!!!. We didn't have to make reservations for any of the many restaurants and we were expected just to walk in and sit down and be served with another cold beer. Really !!!! The food was better than most restaurants back home and the service was awesome with no tip expected. Really !!!! We continued to be exposed to these conditions the entire week and we also had to endure night time entertainment along with out favorite beverage. Really !!!!
