After 10 hrs journey from Montreal, arrived late in the evening where 2 employee at the reception desk were ignoring lineup for some time, then started slowly to process "customers".
Didn't really feel like customer or welcome by attitude of those 2.

Riu Palace Peninsula: Awesome hotel resort
The service at this resort is A+++ from the lobby bar, restaurants, pool side, beach....to daily room service. All the employees working here are just friendly, attentive and helpful. The beach is large and filled with plenty of lounge chairs & umbrellas.
We definitely will come back to this resort in the near future. Thanks RIU !

Melia Puerto Vallarta: Good but not great hotel
I would rate this hotel as OK. I would stay there again only if better hotels were too expensive. The hotel is dated and tired. It is clean enough but in my opinion needs to be gutted and redone. The hotel has a great location right on the beach and a very short walk to Marina Vallarta. The room is clean and had an amazing view of the pool, beach, ocean and mountains. The food in the buffets is actually pretty good with a different food theme each night. The two restaurants have way fewer reserv[... read more]ations available then they will handle for some reason. The food in the restaurants is also pretty good. Some really good choices and some not so good choices. The service all in all is good but we had to wait at times for drinks at the buffets. The service in the restaurants is excellent. The hot water is also spotty. Sometimes you have nice hot water and sometimes you don't. We made it work but it could have been better. They have a lot of activities and shows most nights. The facilities for the activities are also tired and need to be replaced. For instance, the mini put has many creases in the greens and frankly were unusable. They play loud music at the pool and bar all day and night. This is probably typical for all hotels in PV I would think. If you want to get to sleep before midnight, bring good ear plugs. If you into pickle ball they have eight courts on property put into two tennis courts. I have no idea how you sign up for this as we don't play. PV itself is all and all a wonderful place to visit. The weather in January was perfect for us. Cool night and mornings and warm afternoons. There is also lots to do. Go whale watching if you can as it was amazing. Don't book with the people on the beach though. Go through a reputable tour company. Vallarta Tours is the most prevalent one.

The Sens Riviera: Great resort
The resort was great. The rooms were a little dated and could have used shower curtains and a curtain on the bathroom window. Otherwise, everything was fine.
>We're particularly interested in hearing how things were adapted due to COVID19.
The guests were not masked, which I have no problem with. But some of the staff (waiters, bartenders) were. It wasn't even the entire staff. This seems needlessly discriminatory although I guess it may not have been the resorts choice but rather Mexican [... read more]regulations for food handlers? I prefer seeing my waiter's face. People that don't want to see a local waiter's face, but have no issue with seeing a fellow guest's (coming from potentially anywhere in the world), should probably not travel.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: 2nd Visit. Still good but needs some work
This was our 2nd visit to this resort. First was 3 years ago.
All in all we had an amazing time but I now see for myself what the negative reviews were all about. We travel a lot and tend to roll with whatever we are dealt. Nothing ruined our vacation but there were enough, let's call them annoyances, that we likely won't return to this resort unless they seriously complete some updates to this property. Here is an honest review.
Food:
Overall food was amazing.
- Breakfast Buffet = exc[... read more]ellent
- Lunch Buffet was great
- Poolside taco/burrito grill was amazing
- Beachside Grill also amazing!!
- Dinner Buffet was so so.
- A la carte restaurants... Rodeo Grill was amazing and was our favourite, the other à la carte were good too but nothing that was really outstanding. Since we had access to the à la cartes of the entire resort, we tried the French restaurant, 3 of our 4 meals were great, one was overcooked and burnt.
Mexican Theme Night:
This was disappointing. We've been to many resorts in Mexico and typically this is an amazing night with lots of traditional food and entertainment offered. Their version was a small food cart and a few games in the courtyard. The food was amazing, I just wish they made this a bigger feature night.
Room service:
Service was very quick but food was cold.
Rooms:
Our room was in building 2. It had mold between the glass enclosure surrounding the tub, the door, door frames and closet doors were starting to breakdown from the bottom up (likely due to humidity). We had no water pressure (couldn't even get toothpaste off our toothbrush). The bed was also broken. We immediately requested a new room. Front desk sent us to the concierge, concierge told us to check back the next day. Ultimately, we were sent back to the front desk and got a new room 3 days later. They didn't seem overly eager to comply with our request but eventually did (maybe because we asked for an update twice a day)?
Housekeeping:
Our room was cleaned everyday but it took 3 days to get a bar of soap and facecloths. Toilet paper was not replaced and we had to chase down the maid to get some.
Pool towels:
They changed the rules on this, you no longer get your own. You have to request a new towel through housekeeping. I understand that they are trying to get you to reuse your towels but if you NEED a new one, good luck! It takes forever or persistent calling.
Concierge:
EVERY request goes through the concierge, even housekeeping or room service. They record the request then submit it to the correct department. There are only 2 people at the desk (often only one). The phone sometimes goes unanswered. If you need something you have to keep calling or just walk to them and wait in line.
Bell boys = amazing, always smiling and ready to help.
Front desk staff = don't seem as excited to be working or wanting to hear your request
Bartenders and waitstaff = wow...hard workers! They hustle and get you whatever you need/want.
Grounds = Stunning.
Beach:
Beach that belongs to this section of the hotel is quite eroded. To the left (where the luxury hotels are) is a beautiful stretch of beach. To the right toward the remainder of the Princess property, the beach is bigger, has volleyball but is quite busy.
Pool:
The main pool is kept clean and seems to have enough seats. It is the party pool though so if you are not into that, then there is another quieter pool by the buffet. We didn't mind the party pool BUT... that said, the music is REALLY loud. Once the "party" starts, you'll find yourself yelling to speak to the person 1 foot in front of you. I like music but we found that a little too loud.
Poolside bathrooms:
Absolutely disgusting. Also not enough stalls considering the number of people by the pool. Bathrooms often not working, not cleaned, no soap, no paper towels, garbage full. We brought this to the attention of the concierge but nothing was ever done over the 11 days we were there.
Pool deck:
Concrete surface is starting to erode. Walking barefoot from your chair to the pool is like walking on loose stones.
Bridges over mangroves:
Watch your step. Some boards starting to rot. They have started to fix these however.
This is a 5 star rated property. Until they correct some of these issues, I would not rate this 5 star anymore.
Hope this helps.

Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas: Fabulous Resort
My husband and I spent two lovely weeks enjoying this resort. It was very clean and nicely decorated. Staff were continuously cleaning and grooming the resort area. Workers in all areas were helpful, friendly and very diligent with their job. Large pool areas to choose from with plenty of chairs always available.
The buffets were extensive and always tasty. We never encountered any waiting lines except for the evening meal in the specialty restaurants. Have to go early (or later in the [... read more]evening) if you decide on one of the special restaurants. We tried four and all were very good. We also enjoyed going to the large bar off the reception area which has beautiful views of the ocean.
Only downfall would be for anyone wanting to swim in the ocean. There is a beautiful, well maintained beach but the water is very rough.
Transfers between the airport and resort were well organized by the helpful Sunwing staff. Sunwing personnel also helped us book our two cities tour which was quite informative and well organized.
We did have issues particularly during the afternoon and early evenings with very poor Wi-Fi.
For two weeks, we watched the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets and lots of boats, cruise ships and various water sports taking place right off our wonderful balcony.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Amazing resort.
This a very large resort. We were oceanfront in building 68. We were next to the adults only pool and breakfast buffet. We were here for 14 nights and had a different a la carte restaurant dinner every night at all 4 resorts. When you download the Bahia Principe app you can make all your reservations. There is a shuttle service every few minutes to get you around. It is very clean and housekeeping comes everyday. The bathroom has pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, bath gel and Shea butter lo[... read more]tion. Plus a hair dryer. Bring a extension cord as there are not many outlets for charging devices. Bring water shoes as there are some rocks when getting in the ocean, also a snorkel and mask to see all the fish. It is a great resort and is worth the 1 1/2 hour drive to get there. We will definitely be back.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Average not a 5 star or even a 4 dtar
The hotel is very outdated, the food is mediocre not a lot of vegetarian options everything is mixed up with meat, u would think being in Mexico you would find good tacos but none, not a lot of seafood either. They tell you that you can use other barcelo resort but once you are there you have to pay extra to eat in the others. Only 4 a la carte but none available for booking. I would not go back there. The beach is very rocky and will hurt you feet.

Club Med Cancun: Very good resort for families.
Grounds
- The resort has a long coast line, wrapped around the southern point of the hotels zone. More beach than garden space.
- The grounds are generally clean and well maintained.
- Two receptions:
- Main - for general public
- Auqamarina - for pricier rooms
- There is an exclusive area of the club named Jade. No access for the general public.
Rooms
- We found the rooms smaller that you average hotel in this price range.
- No strange smells
- A/C and hot water worked well.
[... read more]
Public Areas
- Beach
- The sandy beach is on the North end and it's sheltered by a natural wave-break.
- Good for swimming.
- White sand, does not get too hot in the sun.
- Plenty of palapas for shade.
- One can snorkel on this beach and can see some wild life.
- The main entertainment is happening here. It can get loud at times.
- The guests are not in the habit of reserving lounge chairs, which is nice.
- The rocky beach on the East is where the snorkeling is supposed to happen, is more exposed to the winds. The sea bottom is not very populated and you may see the occasional plastic bag or other garbage.
- Further south there are narrow quiet and somewhat rocky beaches with lounge chair and umbrellas.
- Pools
- There are two pools for the general public
- One by the main beach. Did not see too many people using it, unlike other resorts where most guests are crowding the pools.
- Another on the South end - by the Aquamarina reception.
- The Jade are has its own pool.
Dining
- The buffet is generally ok. Selection is limited, probably due to inflation and other economic factors.
- A nice touch are the pre-set dishes which invite to a properly portioned meal.
- The A La Carte restaurants are pretty average. We visited once and did not have a reason to return.
- The drinks/cocktails are not great. The alcohol content seems to be halved from the bottle already. Not a big deal, but still ...
- They offer vine and other alcohol for sale, which is marked up a lot.
- They have lager and amber beer, which are fine.
- The complimentary wine is ok.
- The coffee is also ok, except the ones from the automatic machines. We preferred the pot coffee and the one prepared on the classic espresso machines.
- The restaurant staff is generally very nice, except the occasional young waiter seemingly reluctant or overwhelmed.
Features
- The Gym is clean and open almost all day. Well furnished with working machines.
- Wifi is available all around the resort.
- They have a Kindergarten to entertain you kids. They seem to be running on business hours (9 to 5).
Activities
- Nice to have a resort where you can hear French as the default language, for a change.
- The G.O. team is on top of this. They work had to keep you entertained if you whish so.
- Evening shows all week.
- Pre-shows they have great singers to perform.
- Post-shows you may have a party in the main bar.
- There are a lot of activities to participate. One can check the Club Med app for up to date info.
- Yoga, dance lessons, aqua-aerobics, stretching, etc.
- Included kayaking, and sailing. These can be limited by the weather conditions. On our trip were mostly closed due to a government weather advisory.
- Some sea excursions leave from the resort Laguna, which is very convenient.
Nice touches
- The resort manager is omnipresent, constantly keeping in touch with the guests. I did not see this in any other resort we visited.
- The commute from an to the airport was very good. Short drive, plus they check on your flight for you and accommodate for delays.
- Tipping is appreciated but never hinted.

Grand Sunset Princess: Beautiful Grounds
I stayed at this resort from January 21 2023 till January 28th 2023. I have to say the grounds are just beautiful. The resort is giant and it takes about 10-15 minutes to walk from the lobby of the resort to the beach depending on your pace. If you like to walk a lot then this resort is for you. The rooms are out dated and there is no usb ports to charge your electronics. The furniture is old and worn out. The couch has seen better days. Two of my pillows smelled like puke and when I told the ma[... read more]id she said she would bring me new pillow that never showed up. As for the cleanliness of room it was excellent for the first two days but then the third day my room was not made. I had to leave the sign out on the door handle for them to make my room. The resort is showing signs of ageing and could use some work. You can tell it’s quite worn out. The food at the buffet was just ok. Nothing fancy. They keep it very simple. The distance to playa del Carmen will cost you 20usd and the taxi will try to rip you off for 25. Next time I’m renting a car as it’s just much cheaper to get around. The beach was very small at the resort and every morning there would be a bunch of seaweed washing a shore. They do clean it up but it’s a very tight beach. Personally I will not be coming back to this resort as I’ve stayed at a much nicer resort for same price. The staff is very nice and welcoming but they expect to be tipped for everything. The entertainment was awesome! The dancing the shows the lights. Very nice! Don’t try to pet the wildlife as one of the guests got bit and someone’s beach bag got dragged into their den. I know this is not the resorts fault but I had some loud and rowdy neighbours couple doors down that would not shut up! They were so loud singing their tunes and being obnoxious. Then new neighbours came and all they did was fight and argue (couple problems) it was all in French and it was just sad that people can’t just enjoy each others company and have to ruin the peaceful aspect of a vacation for others. Suspect lack of class in some of the guests.

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Well kept resort
Overall the resort is well run, the landscaping is fantastic, staff very friendly, food and beverages was plentiful however quality has decreased and very few options for non alcoholic drinks. Occidental Costa Cancun: I’ve been to better Resorts
I will not recommend this resort to anybody, the A/C was either on or off, could not control it, there was sewer smell in our room 3 times, toilet wouldn’t flush sometimes, the shower would go from burning hot to cold, the balcony wasn’t even big enough to put 1 chair on it and you could look into both your neighbours balcony, only 2 English channels on tv , the nightly shows were right below our room and the food was just okay, and no hot tub
Occidental Cozumel: If you go upgrade to the Royal level
The resort is beautiful and clean with a very friendly staff. If you go upgrade to the Royal level. With it you get a larger room, in a private off the main path setting, your own hot tub pool and a restaurant that you can use for all three meals if you wish. Royal allows you to also book in all the other restaurants. We were greeted with a bottle of wine in our room and a bowl of fresh fruit. The majority of people were 40+ in age (although there were younger people and families) and was v[... read more]ery quiet at night. We never had a problem getting chairs at the beach or the pools.
Restaurant meals were leisurely and not rushed and we were offered specialty desserts and coffees to top them off.
Would definitely return.

Occidental Nuevo Vallarta: Love the size of this resort.
All grounds and gardens are beautifully maintained. Resort is very clean. Beachfront is beautiful and sandy. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Nice no food is at poolside which keeps birds and bugs away.
