Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Select at Casa Marina
We stayed in a swim-out room on the Select side of the resort. The staff were great and very attentive.
-The food was good and the A la cart restaurants were great.
-The room was very spacious and well kept. On occasion there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke that came through the AC duct but it wouldn't last too long.
-Pools were great, beach was closed for the first few days but opened for the last four.
All in all it was a great relaxing trip.
No hiccups with the flight or conne[... read more]ctions/luggage via Westjet either.
Special thanks to TA Jenn Black for helping book this trip!

Melia Punta Cana Beach Wellness Resort Adults: A great adults only wellness resort
The resort is well maintained on a daily basis. The grounds are well manicured and kept very clean. The rooms are cleaned and serviced daily. The beachside Level suite we had was in close proximity to the beach and good restaurants. The food was well presented in the buffet restaurants with good variety of fruits. The bookings for the specialty restaurants was extremely well handled by our personal concierge. There were plenary of beach loungers, cabanas and Bali beds. The beach was combed daily[... read more] for removing drifted weeds. Nice sandy beach. .

Melia Punta Cana Beach Wellness Resort Adults: Great time at Melia Punta Cana Beach Wellness Resort!
My daughter and l just got back from Melia resort (Sept. 30 - Oct. 7/22)....all l can say is this resort is absolutely beautiful! Staff is very polite, no issues checking in or out.
The main areas are kept very clean. The staff is constantly spraying down table surfaces and removing used plates and glasses in the dining area very quickly. We didn't have any concerns about cleanliness. Antibacterial sprays are located throughout the resort.
This resort promotes wellness by having[... read more] many area's around the resort where one can sit privately and meditate or lay in a hammock or sit in a cocoon swing chair. We didn't go to the spa but we spoke to a couple of people who did and they really enjoyed it.
Food was plenty. I'm pescatarian and my daughter is a meat lover. We had no issues at all. Many vegetarian and vegan options and definitely a haven for meat lovers.
We had a deluxe room by the main lobby. Our room was spotless. No issue with water temperature at all. Plenty of towels everyday. Bar fridge was stocked daily with water, soda and beer.
They have a "train" that comes frequently that takes you to the pool/beach area or back to the main lobby where the evening entertainment is held and the restaurants are closely located. We walked both ways a few times and it really didn't take long.
Overall we had a great vacation and would definitely recommend this resort! Hoping to go back soon!
P.S. Thank you Eliana Anton of Tripcentral.ca for recommending this resort!!

Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: Disappointment !
Standard fare all-inclusive. Watered down drinks. Mid-shelf Jose Cuervo re-filled with THE cheapest tequila. Straight up lousy replacement tequila. I found a single bottle of 100% agave tequila on site (Heradura) at the *Diamond Club* beach bar hidden on the bottom shelf, lower right corner. Service seemed worse at the Diamond Club than at the *regular* side. You could sit for hours and not be approached by the wait staff. Forget the warm beer on tap or the watered-down vodka. I'm guessin[... read more]g even the local rum wasn't good. Rude and ignorant guests hanging around the pool and D-Jay station playing *Wet Ass Pussy* and other rude and vulgar C*Rap*. Entertainment staff was amazing and always had something for us to do. Food can get repetitive but you can always find something that’s good. Really recommend the catamaran Free Style. The crew was amazing and takes you out to 2 different spots to snorkel. Recommend booking with Cesar down by the beach bar.

Select Sosua Adults Only, Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Great value
We stayed in a Select swim out room. The extras at Select are worth the upgrade, included are free safe & wifi which you must pay for on the reef side therefore the upgrade cost is not as much as you think.
Room: It took a long time for the shower to get hot, or warm, or one day not warm, other than that the room was great.
Food: Exactly as the previous reviews predicted, not so great, however the morning egg cook did a perfect over easy which needed up being the best meal of the day. Only on[... read more]e day with bacon, get there early.
Service: Same as above, exactly as the previous reviews, slow. Suggest ordering your drink before you want it. The Select side is supposed to have poolside service. On our last day of 7, the waiter finally came by and ask us if we wanted a drink. Note the service at Herman’s restaurant was exceptional!
Beach: It right after hurricane Fiona so the beach was closed most of the time. Opened for 2 hours and closed again very quickly. However, the very large waves hitting the reefs was beautiful. Missed the beach bar as it was also closed. Both ends of the resort were blocked off, due to the huge waves and safety risk, therefore we were unable to climb steps at the beach side and walk around the neighbouring resort or down the steps on the reef side, to Alicia beach.
Location: Being right in town is a benefit, we were 2 women walking and we felt safe. There are many other bars and restaurants to check out. Recommend the 7 min walk to Sousa beach. Turn right out of the resort go a few blocks, there is a small sign pointing to Sousa Beach, turn left and follow it takes you there. Felt very safe. Lots of vendors trying to get you in to shop, just politely say no and keep walking until you find the perfect bar and tables looking out to the beach. Bonus: The very short transfer, max 15 minutes to resort.
Overall, we would return to this resort, or just the area, for the right price. Needs to be a value considering the level of the food and service.

Ocean Blue and Sand: Horrible
I have never been to a resort where they bring the Locals in at a cheaper rate for weekends. From Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon the resort is "TAKEN OVER " by 200 or more local residents. Noisy, loud all hours of day and night, leaving garbage eg. diapers, food, cups, drink all over pool decks. Kids with floatation toys in the adult whirlpool, taking up dining room seating, food and services from the people that have paid big for a vacation getaway.
The resort has issues with proper A[... read more]C, no water pressure or temperature control for showering, flushing toilets, limited internet. Several rooms have a gross odor to them.
When you arrive the next day, you are hounded by representatives to buy into and join the "ELITE" club. Wanted us to spend at least 2 hours of our vacation time listening and participating in the seminar.
Food presentative was pretty but no taste. Japanese was excellent..
Grounds and set-up was nice.
Large rooms
Beach, very little beach area. Mostly eroded away. Hi Tide, there is no beach area
2 big pools but cloudy and some days weren't open going green.
Overall; was expensive, horrible experience and disappointing.
Not a 4.5 star at most 3 star.
We will never go back unless they update AC, water and stop the locals from coming in.
The opinions of the other guests we spoke with fully agreed and felt the same way..

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Until the Hurricane
Everything was pretty good until Hurricane Fiona.
The hotel must have overbooked because we got two double beds instead of the king bed we reserved online, not the end of the world, we pushed the beds together, but not what I paid for at a "luxury resort"
The Butler was amazing, Watson made our trip!!! Very helpful, checked in on us, we highly recommend Watson. Unfortunately he was off after the hurricane so we didn't get his help with some of the issues that came up.
The Front desk sta[... read more]ff were rude an unhelpful, with the exception of Jesus, everyone else passed everything off to someone else.
The food was delicious, the a la carte restaurants were great.
When the hurricane came, the communication was really bad, and when we tried to find out what was open etc, the concierge didn't want to help us, she just kept pointing at a piece of paper and staring at her computer.
We paid extra for the walk out pool, but after the hurricane the pump had broke so we went 3 days without a pool. Every other pool was up and running in 2 days, and we asked multiple people multiple times. Finally I went to ask for a new room and the front desk attendant told me he had been waiting for me to come to get a new room?!?!?! This is supposed to be a 5 star luxury resort, why am I chasing people down for the services I paid for?
We moved rooms and my husband left his charger in the old room, we went back with a hotel staff and the room had already been cleaned and the charger removed, but we were told we had to keep checking back to see if the cleaning attendant came back to work. We checked 3 times, she never returned and they never followed up, or took a note, nothing, it was our responsibility. Again, this is supposed to be a luxury resort.
The Air Canada rep Aldo didn't show up for the orientation meeting, and then I had to go back 4 times to find out when our transfer was leaving the last day. Apparently he's between 2 resorts, the Ambar and the Aquamarine, but I only saw him once at the Ambar. The front desk never knew when he was supposed to be there and its not posted anywhere. After the hurricane, he never checked in on us or anything. Didn't show up when the coach was leaving either.
I'm torn with my review because I think if the Hurricane didn't happen, we would a have been fine, and of course a Hurricane is no ones fault, and of course the workers at the resort had to go through the same hurricane, so I can totally understand some of the service issues, but this cannot be Bahia Principe's first Hurricane, and they clearly have no procedures in place for communication with guest during this type of event or after.

Impressive Premium Punta Cana: Amazing!!!
We arrived at this resort a day after Hurricane Fiona. It was amazing that the resort was already cleaned from the debris. We were able to use the pool right in front of our room. They tried their best to open alacarte restaurants. We were able to get reservations for the Japanese and steakhouse which were both great. Staff was friendly expecially Luisa from the spa/massage. She is a good massage therapist. Buffet was also good. Our room facing the pool was spacious had a double shower a[... read more]nd sink in the bathroom. Perfect for a couple or with small children.

Wyndham Alltra Punta Cana: overcrowded with Weekend guests
We have been to DR 13 times, various resorts throughout including Dreams Palm beach. We booked Dreams Punta Cana for a new experience and please trust me, do not book this resort! This resort is closing, overall the resort was ok the food was below sub par HOWEVER they allow weekend guests onto the resort. The resort was over capacitated Thursday to Sunday night. They do not have enough staff or the proper facility to accommodate them. On top of that they brought in guests from other resorts tha[... read more]t had to be moved from other hotels because of the hurricane damage. THEY were not the problem nor enough of them to cause the issues, it was the weekend guests!!!
See other points below;
Buffet Breakfast- waited everyday about 20 minutes or more in line to get eggs, toast no problem, butter was always gone, no bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, the only meat was a thick cut bologne sausage unless you sign up for preferred club. Overall same menu every day. Weekends we could not find a table to sit down at, way overcrowded and understaffed, weekend guests take over the tables in large groups.
Buffet Lunch- same menu every day, bbq chicken wing, pork chop and grouper again very crowded and understaffed
Buffet Dinner- same experience as lunch.
A la carte Restaurants were ok- understaffed and every single night something was forgot, rolls, starter, dessert and the menu given did not match the QR menu, very disappointing and blah.
Pools- weekend guests took over, lobby, bar, pools and buffet
Service- weekend guests took over and they are very forward and had preferential service because they could speak the language and were loud when ordering or comfortable because they were in large groups. Harassing comments were made to my wife and her friend to the point were they felt uncomfortable in the pool and going up to the bar. We like to have a beer on the balcony before dinner, the bar fridge not stocked 5 out of 7 days despite several calls.
Hurricane Fiona did strike and we realize it would affect things overall, but nothing was given to guests to make up for cancelled shows, closed restaurants, closed bars, no room service etc. Many guest did not even have water. What they could have done was had extra bottles of water, snacks, towels, for guests confined to their rooms during the hurricane. After the storm staff did an excellent job cleaning up and getting the resort back in shape. Many guests pitched in squeegeeing out their rooms, hallways, and a group of about 20 of us pitched in to move palm leaves, trees, shingles to help out. Staff was lower as many did were home attending to their own families/houses and totally understandable. Note; people we met during the vacation were there the week before the hurricane and had the same issues, staffing shortages and disappointment with weekend guests.
Do not book this resort, even for a lower price, it is just not worth it. Ignore the standard manager feedback comments, they did not try to make things better, the staff on hand did work hard but Dreams put money in their pockets by renting out to weekend guests and not bringing on enough staff to accommodate them or extending buffet hours, opening the other bars on the resort or extending the hours of the bars throughout the resort that closed early. Very disappointing Dreams and never will I book with you again, even at your other resorts. Closing or not you owe your guests a huge apology and some type of reimbursement and not sure how long this decline in service has been going on.

TRS Cap Cana Hotel: Not impressed
No drink service at swim up rooms like at TRS Turquesa but the food was better. Restaurants are open concept so no air conditioning which we found very difficult to enjoy all our meals in the heat everyday.
Room could use some work and furnishings need updating.
We have travelled to many places over the years and to us this is not a 5 star resort. Very disappointed after waiting 2 yrs for a vacation after COVID.
We would not return nor would we recommend this this resort

Riu Palace Bavaro: Amazing resort. Third visit in 5 yeara
Everything great except the main courses in the buffet. Extremely salty compared to previous visits. There was constant confusion whether or not a la carte restaurants were open or closed. For example the restaurant staff said that the Taino Steakhouse would be open Wednesday and Thursday but they were closed. The local Sunwing rep was so so. We had to figure out things ourselves
