Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Not royalton quality
Beach was what we went for....it was very seaweed filled...although they tried cleaning the beach with one small dozer working all day long, they beach never cleared of seaweed and the water was always murky....very disappointing....
Rooms were okay...our bathroom sliding door was broke and wouldn't close, the balcony deck jaccuzi filled the water with black flecks coming out of all the jets....
Most workers expected tips for any assistance they gave you...
Although the resort warned that bea[... read more]ch chairs could not be held and your belongings would be removed if unoccupied for an hour, this did not apply to people who paid off the workers to hold their loungers, in one case 10 beach loungers were held for a group of 20 year olds until after noon when they finally showed up...leaving other guests without loungers...
Resort stores were ok but a bit pricey...
We were asked to move from two different bar area chairs because we were not ordering drinks....
And when we sat in a beach cabana bed we were told we had to pay 50.00 if we wanted to sit there...which was fine if that's the policy, but people who sat in them after we moved, were not told to leave them.
Food was average though the workers were nice. Take your own steak sauce, they don't have any.
Entertainment was not as good as other places we have vacationed...no Michael Jackson, karaoke, water showsetc.
They also told us to put our umbrella down on the beach due to the Wind one day...but other people In the next section down could leave theirs up..,and it was very hot....
Also the entertainment crew only catered to the pool area...they never came to the beach to let us know when things were going to happen like trivia, yoga, pool volleyball etc. We only saw a member from the team when he came to the beach to get people to play beach volleyball...
I do not believe we will return to this resort....

Platinum Yucatan Princess: My second time here and won’t be my last!
I absolutely love this resort. It checks off all of my requirements and allows me a relaxed, chill, fun stay. I book the swim up rooms which are superb. The rooms are fresh, contemporary and clean. The staff is incredibly friendly and in terms of amnenities, they’re all wonderful. The grounds are designed quite nicely and there’s never a lack of personal space. If you’re looking to party on, there’s that too at the main pool which is a blast! I’ll be coming back for sure. I love the re[... read more]sort and the area it’s in. If you’re a walker (like I am) walking to Playa Del Carmen’s city center is about two hours along the beach which is marvellous if walking and nature are your thing.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Every day was something new!!!
From sunrise to sunset, we had everything at our fingertips. Amazing resort, staff, rooms and pools. The beach is great and you can walk all day long. The swim up room made the holiday perfect! We were at the Grand Sunset Princess back in 2014 and wanted to come back for more. Never disappointed and so many excursions that we were able to get to. Swimming with the sea turtles was the dream that came true! Coming back for a third time for sure!

Dreams Riviera Cancun: I wanted to love it! But I liked it!
Dreams Riviera Cancun
Travelled as a family, myself and husband and two children (2.5 and 5years old)
First time travelling with the kids after many trips to Mexico. I wanted a family resort that was small with great pools, great food and great service.
What we loved:
*Pools - they are heated and this is amazing when your kids want you in the pool at 8:30am. So nice. No chill. Three pools in total. One is very shallow for kids. The activity pool has a shallow ledge and about 4.5 feet at t[... read more]he deepest depth. Lastly the infinity pool with swim up bar - gorgeous view. All pools were clean.
*More lounge chairs than guests! This was amazing!
*No towel cards - every resort should follow their lead. Taking and returning towels = zero headache. No cards. Take as many towels as you needed.
*small resort. Perfect layout. Easily walkabout to any area in a few mins. Perfect for small children. Beautiful grounds. Spacious and comfortable room. Beds and pillows were great.
*wait service in the buffet and restaurants we always found great. Everyone was kind.
What surprised me the most was the food. I didn’t love it! I expected more from a 5 star resort. We went to the buffet and wondered where the rest of it was. Small with little selection. The basics were there. We didn’t go hungry and what we ate was fine - we were just never wowed. The restaurants were just ok. Skip the tacos at the Mexican restaurant. They weren’t good. We’ve stayed at other chains with far better food and selection. I def expected more from Dreams in this area.
Because of the food, I likely would return to this resort if we found an amazing deal. The good outweighed the bad. We had a great week with loads of family time by the pools. I think the resort expects everyone to eat at the restaurants in the evening but this isn’t always ideal with kids. More variety and selection in the buffet would put you a step above.
Thanks for a great week!
Debbie at TripCentral was AMAZING to work with. I will be booking our next trip with you!

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Care and Service - Over the Top !!!
So a little story about this Resort, This morning at the beginning of our day, I was slipping into the pool when it felt like something bit me. As I looked down in the water I saw a cloud and knew it was blood. After getting out of the water I pulled a piece of tile from my big toe and the blood came gushing. With a towel on my foot keeping pressure on the wound, a fella passed by and laughed as he thought I had spilled a Strawberry Daquiri. Yep there was a lot of blood.
One of the poolside b[... read more]artenders saw a commotion and realized what had happened and summoned security and our building's concierge. First aid treatment was applied by security and a paramedic from Nova Scotia, (Sarah Kingsbury, he knows you and said you transported him to or from a hospital at his time of need). I was returned to my room to await the resort doctor.
The resort doctor arrived took vitals and inspected the cut and said I would require stitches. Now here is where this story gets interesting....
When we arrived at the main lobby, accompanied by the doctor and the concierge, I was informed that the resort would cover all medical bills, prescriptions and the Taxi, which was instructed to wait for us in the parking lot until our time of return. (4 hours later).
At the hospital not only was I seen by a doctor but was referred to the Plastic Surgeon, and he proceeded to clean the wound and stitch me up. 3 in number.
We returned to the resort with all taken care of. This level of care and service will definitely keep us coming back to this resort. As this is Kelly and my second time here it will NOT be our last. It sucked to get my foot cut open in the pool but accidents do happen from time to time. At least it was me and not a young child.
Kelly and I would like to thank the staff at the Blue Bay Grand Esmerelda, and a special shout out to Our Concierge Carlos, and the resort MD, Claudia, and Fernando at the Snack Bar for Excellent Service.
Thanks, and see you next year.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Awesome Resort
We were very pleased with this resort. It was our first time at this one and it definitely met our expectations. Rooms very clean, and restocked bar fridge daily, lots of bottled water. Staff very friendly and aimed to please. Pools and restaurants very clean. Food was amazing, lots to choose from at buffets. Gourmet restaurant our favourite. Beach ok, a bit rocky, need water shoes. A lot of seaweed but they worked diligently every morning to clean it up. Definitely would return.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Living in the jungle
So we just returned from an 8 day trip to sandos Eco resort. Beautiful resort with tons to do. You don’t even need to leave your resort. The food was good. Authentic Mexican cuisine. Every night was a different theme at the buffet restaurant which is nice. We missed out on reservations on the Japanese restaurant :(. Apparently it was an awesome fire show (you don’t have to go for the food just like that they make your food at your table) it was completely booked by the 2nd day we were there [... read more]so that sucked. The random animals all over the place (aardvarks, raccoons, millions of birds, monkeys, snakes, donkeys, ducks) everything you can imagine. Was at this resort. There was a sweet water pool that you could go snorkeling in. The pools were nice a little jammed packed (most of the Time) so we hung out on the beach. We were really disappointed with the water. There was coral rocks you had to walk around to get out in the ocean. And you couldn’t walk too far out (maybe to your thighs) because of them. There was a mix up with our stay. The receptions computer system only had us booked in for 7 nights but we booked for 8 nights. It was an ongoing problem the whole week for them to fix it in their computer. On the last day we got locked out of our room. Not impressed !! We didn’t fall for the time share guest service people trying to sell us something. But they were pretty pushy !! All in all it was a nice resort so I would recommend it. Not if your a beach person. This beach is not for you. People that worked there were wonderful !! I wish they would bring back the all night snacks at the snack bar. Azul was a happy guy and made excellent ice cream. But they should bring the all night snack bar back for him!!!

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Great resort!
Very nice resort, the layout is great, very clean, the rooms are large- love the adults only section, service is fantastic and staff are very friendly- entertainment team goes out of their way with all day long entertainment and nightly shows. one small remark however is the choice of music at the Elbeso adults only section could be changed as the rap and hip hop get on your nerves after a while... just my opinion

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: Has great potential!
My husband and I attended this resort together. It’s a family friendly resort but the price was right so we went anyway 😠The resort is very spacious and has many unique qualities. It has its own coffee house, ice cream shop, a ruin!, dolphin show - you can even pay to swim with them. A lazy river that was a lot of work for me lol. Wildlife is around and they have descriptions everywhere explaining what they are. They are very eco friendly - no straws, reusable glasses, change sheets and to[... read more]wels every two to three days unless it’s necessary to do so before. The rooms are cleaned daily, the resort itself, well maintained. They were removing the seaweed daily, it was very hard work but they did it. The shops in the lobby were great - they only take pesos, so we would have to charge to the room then go pay at reception. There’s a shop in the middle of the resort where they sell locally made, beautifully crafted items. They take US dollars. We’re Canadian but brought US money. Here’s where we had issues and not all of them are the resorts issues but it reflects badly and I can not think of any way to resolve them. Here we go...the staff. My husband and I have travelled to many resorts all over the Caribbean, West Indies, South America and Mexico and I feel that I’m a pretty good judge of people. 4 people stood out to us during our stay. Louanne from the spa - phenomenal! She actually came down to the pool, talked to people, gave great sample massages and booked quite a few of us. It didn’t end there though. Every time we saw her, she remembered us, asked us how we were feeling, took a few seconds. She made us feel like more than just a massage. More than just a face. The second person, our concierge, Ivan. Super guy. He explained things to us, helped us figure things out. Talked to us. He was so accommodating. Felt more like a friendship than anything. He seemed genuinely happy to see us. We feel that Louanne and Ivan could teach the entire staff a lot in regard to customer service. Even if it’s just on how to be pleasant. The other two people were the coffee house girls, the ones that worked most of our week there. They couldn’t speak English well and our Spanish is not great but we managed to all be understood and they were great. Can I mention also the cookies at the coffeehouse??!? They are amazing!! We normally build a relationship with the staff at the buffet and at the restaurants. This did not happen here. It’s not that they were rude, they weren’t but there were no smiles, no greeting. It was disorganized mostly. Nothing made sense. Only on the Mexican night were we seated. No one greets you at the door - They stand there or they talk to each other but you walk in and find a seat. I would go get my dinner or lunch or breakfast while my husband waited at the table then I ate while he went and I would get dessert while he ate. We basically ate alone. Having the staff seat you, you know no one will steal your seat. They had welcome drinks outside on a few nights but they were there for the taking. They should be handed out while being greeted and then you should be taken to your seat. The buffet was all over the place, I think I missed a lot of stuff lol. It was good food though. Service was also slow - when it came to drinks and taking plates away. And the staff, they didn’t really look you in the eye. Not sure if it’s because they don’t know English well and were maybe afraid we’d ask something or if they were shy, but they need confidence instilled in them. Hey, I work with the public and I know it can be tough but it’s your job. You’re representing your company. You’re the face of grand sirenis .... no matter the day your having you gotta wear a smile for shift because these people have saved all year to come to your resort to escape whatever goes on in their regular lives to be pampered for one week and you have the opportunity to help make their lives a little bit better. Doesn’t matter if their kids are brats, their spouses are drunk, they’re drunk...it’s only a second out of your job but it could turn their whole day around. I recommend customer service training. We went to two a la carte restaurants, we cancelled the third. The steak house was good. My steak was a bit fatty but it was good. The Brazilian...not our favourite. The service was so so slow. The meat was either fatty, burnt or dry. Our waiter didn’t serve it right either. There’s a specific way it should be sliced and served...they need to learn that. The soup though...cream corn shrimp...omg...the absolute best! The elevator didn’t work a lot of the time and when you need to change US dollars to pesos, you need that elevator lol. Also the buffet was up there and after having walked so far to get there...last thing I wanna do is climb stairs. It was exercise, I’ll give you that but geez Louise.... 😠The sports bar. There’s a word there... bar. In no way, shape or form should a child be any where near a place with the word bar in it unless it’s an ice cream bar. The sports bar was filled with kids. All around the pool tables. No parents. I understand people are on vacation and it’s a family resort but aside from the kids club, parents still need to be responsible for their kids. There’s no vacation from your children unless you leave them at home. I saw a little boy drinking pool water and finally the mom came in, I thought finally! She gave him another cup!! What the flip!! That was our first day...we discovered the quiet pool day two. Kids would bring lazy river floaties in there and jump in - parents said nothing. No one monitors the pools. The pool wasn’t cleaned for two and a half days. No jets were on the one day. Then 2 men came in what looked like hazmat suits to test the pools. That was scary...we joked about it but I’m still a bit nervous. Some of the children were so messy and inconsiderate, dropping ice cream, breaking plates, splashing, throwing things while people were floating... I don’t know how to rectify this other than to post signs, have restricted areas, adults only areas where children have no place being. This resort has so much going for it but it’s just shy of missing the mark. It has such great potential to be so much better than it is. On the other hand, it was nice seeing that some families were actually there enjoying their time together. My granddaughter, I’m sure would love it there and it might be a different experience for us having her there. The question below asks if I would recommend the hotel to a friend. I’m saying no but if it was a friend with children I think I would.
