Resort was Beautiful and well maintained. Majority of the Staff were Amazing! Few Staff Members felt the need to argue, disagree and down right ignore you.
Food at the Mexican and Indian Restaurants were Amazing. Others Restaurants just ok, some just horrible. Main Pools were freezing. Excellence Pool was luckily heated.
Beach and Ocean had a lot of Seaweed. Videos of Music being played everywhere…is no longer that way. Evening Entertainment was wonderful especially the Fire Show. Food Truck[... read more] is gone and not coming back.
Concierge was absolutely no help. For the Money spent expected so much more. Won’t return. Will go back to Excellence Punta Cana instead.

Dreams Sands Cancun Resort and Spa: Great Resort
The resort is one of the best on the strip in Cancun, in particular the beach. The food was excellent. We ate at both steak places, Mexico has perfected steak, the Hibachi, excellent and the Italian restaurant, also excellent. Service was very good as well. Staff was very friendly and made a point of getting to know you.
Only issue, is rooms are not very sound proof

El Cozumeleno Beach: Perfect Family Getaway
The hotel was clean, extremely friendly staff, very accomodating. The buffet does not have a lot of options but the a la carte menu is a great idea. We ordered from that menu mostly for lunch and supper. The rooms are simple and have large balconies and the beds are very comfortable. I love how the resort is so close to the beach. Wherever you are, you can hear the ocean. It would be nice to have evening entertainment. There is movie night twice a week but aside from some music playing in the ba[... read more]r area and only until 10pm, there's no night life. The beach/sand and pool areas are always clean. Krystal Grand Puerto Vallarta: Run down and filthy
When we arrived in the room, we notice it had not been cleaned after the last guests. The sheets had several hairs, stains and crusted on human waste embedded on the sheets. There was a used razor blade on the floor of the room. No clean towels and the floor was full of sand. The front desk sent housekeeping to change our sheets but nothing else was cleaned in the room. The man at the front desk claimed the manager was unavailable to talk to us. So we spoke to our sunwing rep, who wrote a repor[... read more]t but we never received a follow up from management or sunwing.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Amazing Resort
The Grand Serenis has something for everyone. The rooms were like the pictures on website. Buffet had great variety and the a la cartes were fantastic. This resort had a beautiful waterfront especially for the snorkel lovers. Sunscape Sabor Cozumel: Wonderful staying!
Amazing trip! The hotel looks good. The room are wide and comfortable but need some maintenance. The service, food and entertainment activities were great. What i did not like that there was no wifi service for free of charge at the room. I have enjoyed a lot the beautiful sunset and Mango Tango drink. I highly recommend Sunscape for low budget trips to Cozumel!

Riu Flamingos: Not a fan
I’m sure we got the poorest room, but I expected that. It was a long walk to the only set of elevators in the entire building.
The food was anywhere from great( only one night and one restaurant) to terrible ( most nights in all the rest of the restaurants ).
The only drinks served in all restaurants was beer or wine! No mixed drinks or after dinner Spanish coffee in any of them! Service in all restaurants was almost nonexistent. There is not nearly enough staff and it took the entire meal t[... read more]o finally get a drink. Birds everywhere eating leftovers in the steak restaurant was gross! Long waits to get a table cleaned off for lunch.
No pool service at all! Not allowed to eat around the pool although the burger stand is outside of one. Had to go to the beach to eat a burger.
Gift shop charged $40 for a hat that 100 feet away was only $15!
Nothing Mexican about this place at all.
Disappointing from checkin to checkout.

It is not a bad hotel. I don’t like a food, not a great selection. But the hotel has seven restaurants for all tastes and all restaurants are different from each other. You must book at 7am for your visit. Otherwise, you risk not getting in.

Riu Santa Fe: Fantastic experience
This resort was amazing! The staff was accommodating and kind. Everything was clean and well looked after. The drinks and food were incredible and lots of variety on both. The pools were a little cold but manageable with the warm weather, the beach was clean and the resort offered lots of beach beds and umbrellas. The mini games like darts and volleyball were so fun and such a nice touch to have such activities included. Overall best hotel I've ever been to and will definitely be coming back.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Amazing resort with fabulous staff!
We loved everything about this property and would highly recommend it to couples, families, and friends. Being able to eat at a specialty restaurant every night instead of the buffet was wonderful. It was also great to be able to visit and use all amenities at the other Bahia properties in the complex during our stay. The various beaches, pools, entertainment, and staff made this one of our top vacations ever. Can’t wait to return!

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Solid 4 star
The hotel was exactly as expected, 4 star.
The food at the buffet was decent, they were always refilling stations, so sometimes you did have to wait for bacon, veggies or chicken, but they always brought more.
There are 2 egg stations for breakfast, one more geared for omelettes, but they still made me eggs if they were less busy than the other.
Lunch and dinner they had a meat station, which was very basic but many sauces to pair at the other stations. There was no pasta station, wh[... read more]ich is a first in my experience but they did have pasta dishes. I do wish they had a pasta station, so it would be fresh.
The snack bar was always delicious. Burgers were good and the chips and guacamole delicious. There was also Chicken wings, hotdogs and other traditionally "American" food.
The hotdog stand we had once and it was good, then was out of commission for the week, so they had a taco stand which was way better.
The Crepe stand also had milkshakes and ice cream cones, which was a great addition. The crepes were okay, in my opinion.
Getting a reservation to the restaurants was difficult, we were lucky to get into the Italian and Japanese. Both were okay, the "Japenese" teppanyaki show was not as exciting as I have seen at other resorts or even at locations in Whistler or Toronto. It is more mixed "Asian food" than Japanese.
We had the upgraded PRIVILEGE status and luckily paid very little to add it to our package, as the cost was worth it, but I wouldn’t pay the $50 per day I heard others paid at the front desk. We were to get a king bed, as a couple on our honeymoon, but ended up with two queen beds.
The Bloved restaurant was good, but the same menu daily, it would be better if it was rotational. If you didn’t get a reservation to another restaurant you had other options to chose from.
The "privileged" pool area was more quiet, but it wasn’t monitored so there were regular wrist band people at the pool.
Not something I cared about, as I was always able to get chairs. Others were concerned as they had paid and couldn’t get what they paid for.
The privilege beach, is quiet, but unfortunately on the lagoon side, so the water was not as clear and a little on the green side.
The entertainment shows were the best I’ve seen for theatre, but didn’t have as many acrobatics as I’ve seen at other hotels.
Usually they have aerial silk performances and fire shows on the beach. That would be a great addition, a fire show or similar performances on the beach one night.
After the show, there is also no other form of entertainment, except the late night disco, which is not for everyone.
It would be nice if they kept another bar opened even until midnight with live music, but I understand difficult with the rooms so close.
Overall, the drinks were made pretty well. Mojitos were the best. They will ask you how strong you want them made and they are pretty good at remembering your face/drink preferences!
Caesar at the Japanese restaurant was an outstanding host, and the bartender there was outstanding.
Joel at Italian was wonderful, super friendly.
Arturo was the best entertainment staff. He was so fun and funny. He was Cogsworth and Flounder in the Disney show, it was the best!
The Moana show was really well done, the best of the week!
Most of the staff speak little to no English, which made it difficult at times, but we did google translate, as needed.
The spring coil mattresses were not very comfortable or supportive.
The room we had was nicely renovated and the shower was good.
The room cleaning services were always great, they left us enough towels, water and many soaps.
The Room Service we received was also decent, great chicken sandwich.
The resort had many things for children to do, definitely more family oriented.
I also recommend bringing water shoes as the beach is pretty rocky.
The wifi connection around the resort was amazing and allowed us to stay in contact with family back home.
We were in a safe gated community and a 500m walk to the Marina and Dolphin Cove. The return trip around the marina is about 2.5 kms. Many people also rented golf carts to drive around. Definitely worth a visit.
We also walked around to see the privately owned houses within the gated community. It felt safe, even at night, and everyone was very friendly.
Overall, we had a great time and would go back.

Riu Flamingos: Perfect family resort
Our family group included 2 grandparents, 2 parents and 3 children aged 14, 10 and 3. The family stayed in a family room while the grandparents had a regular bedroom with 2 queen beds joined together.
Older adults enjoyed the beach loungers under the swaying palms, visiting the sister resort and the many restaurants with no reservations required. In short, more enjoying, less waiting in line. The exception was the Steakhouse restaurant which was our favourite due to the beachside location.

It was okay, but we didn’t love it. The good: clean, no bugs, good beach (no seaweed), responsive front desk, nice balcony and view, spacious room, good Wi-Fi. The bad: THE SMELL in the rooms - mildew. Still in our clothes. So gross. The food - so bad. I dreaded going to eat, and I’m not normally that fussy about food. My sister got sick from the shrimp. We had a great week at the Riu Santa Fe in Los Cabos. This is a big resort with lots of amenities. Rooms and grounds were clean and attractive. Staff were friendly and helpful. Grand Palladium Kantenah: The most perfect vacation
We love this resort. We came here 5 years ago and we wanted to come back- after a trip to Hawaii and another resort we decided to come back. It has so much to offer.
Amazing food. Beach. Grounds. Room. I ate amazing fajitas everyday.
It is quite far from the airport. 2.5 hour bus ride with stops at other resorts. The travel to and from was biggest complaint with various airport delays

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Will not go back
Would not recommend this resort if you want to relax. The constant LOUD music was horrible. It was so loud we had to shout at each other to hear ourselves.
The food was great, as was the service but the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. A very big resort with line ups for the ala carts so the only availability was for 9:30 pm and afterwards.

Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya: An Honest Review - This Will Not Be Short But Hopefully Helpful
An Honest Review
This will not be short, but I hope it will be helpful.
Some things about a trip matter more to others, some don’t, take from this what you will if anything at all.
I have been travelling all inclusive for about 20 years now. I have stayed at multiple 5 star resorts and many times in various parts of Mexico.
My husband and I just came home from our 14 day stay at Secrets Akumal. We had a swim-up room. We are seasoned travellers and enjoy days of relaxation and peace as[... read more] well as fun loud party times. We experienced both,
We had an incredible vacation. I do also have some advice/tips/suggestions etc.for the traveler and the hotel people in charge.
Let’s begin:
Hotel Itself: Beautiful, very clean, feels like a tropical paradise including iguanas that have their own homes on property with name signs. Hilarious.
Hotel Ambiance: The sounds and smells are incredible. I felt like I walked into a massive spa like atmosphere. The instrumental music (this is around lobby areas and the quiet pool) was calming. By smells I mean aromatherapy slight scent not overpowering just enough to know that it’s a clean, well maintained resort.
Swim-up room: Clean, well laid out. Love the long counter under the tv. The furniture was comfortable.
NOTE: As a tip for any swim up room people - make sure that you place towels on the floor of your room because they patio portion is fine when you exit the pool. I entered the room still damp with a towel on and almost wiped out. Perhaps there should be a mat by the sliding door just in case?
Con: The toilet part of the room has a frosted glass bathroom door. Not a big fan of that.
TV : I know it may seem silly on vacation but sometimes you do end up in your room to chill out. They had a decent variety of channels that were in English. HBO channels, CBC, BBC, etc. It was really nice to sit in the air conditioning sometimes and just watch movies.
Tablet In Room: This is to order room service, tray collection etc. It was great. Very easy to understand, we simply requested our room service, etc and it was sent.
Room Service Menu:
Pros: You could add details like “extra sauce†to your order which was helpful
Cons:
- Limited selection unless you’re in the Preferred Club. Even with a swim up suite.
Annoying that you could only order certain items for certain times like milkshakes or smoothies.
The food rarely arrived hot.
Patio Con: I’m a night owl who loves to sit outside and read but the patio lights for our room we had no control over so you couldn’t do that at night after a certain time. I don’t remember the time and it’s just a small note in case that’s a big deal to some people.

Room Service Staff: Always friendly and attentive.
Housekeeping Staff: We didn’t see them often as we weren’t in the room. They were very
friendly and polite when we did run into them.
Con: I had to make multiple calls for them to restock the toilet paper. They didn’t until hours
later and gave us one roll.
Pools/Pool Area: We were primarily at the quiet pool. Pool 1. It was wonderful. The waitstaff at the pool are fantastic.
Always attentive, friendly, helpful. We found there were always plenty of towels, drink options, etc.
Ibraham was our pool waiter. They had a pool attendant who stopped by to give us cold scented towels and books to read, etc. I cannot say enough about their efforts.
Pro: I also want to mention the cleanliness of the pool area. I’ve experienced other resorts where there can be cups, glasses left over, attracting bugs etc. They were on it when it came to clearing items away.
Room Concierge: Our room Concierge was Alejandro. This man is absolutely incredible. He made our stay fantastic. He is the epitome of excellence in customer service. Always friendly, knowledgeable, patient and hardworking. I was trying to learn some Spanish while I was there so he would teach me Spanish words. He made us feel like valued guests. He is a wonderful person and excellent at his job.
Speaking of the Staff….
Secrets Akumal staff by far exceeded any staff we’ve encountered on our vacations. Every staff member was welcoming, friendly, kind and patient. I would like to specifically mention some.
If you are planning to vacation at this resort these people will make your days brighter.
Hostess: Marysol - what a wonderful, charming fantastic person. She made us laugh and has excellent customer service. Thank you Marysol !
Ismael at the fire pit bar. Incredible attentive service. Remembers your drink order days later. Always helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you.
Same bar: the female waitstaff. I can’t remember her name I wish I could. She was wonderful as well.
The Animacion/ Activities Team: This team is incredibly hardworking, energetic and amazing.
Shout outs: (including activities we tried)
We did turtle painting with Oliver. He is hilarious. He made our class fantastic.
Con: The size of the object - it’s a fridge magnet that is tiny so it’s harder to pain with even small brushes and the activity takes like 10 minutes.
Darios or “D†: We took his water aerobics class and archery classes with him. He is phenomenal. He is patient when he instructs, fun and incredibly friendly. D you’re the best!
Con: This class should be longer. When you have a group of people you only get to shoot so many times because of time limits. This is something that is a good con because it means the class is so fun it should continue.
Diana “tiny but strong†taught us in the Spanish class. What an amazing woman. She is patient, funny and has a heart of gold. She would run into me during our staff and we would practice Spanish. A true gem. We love you Diana.
Miguel: For water volleyball he was so encouraging and fun. He took time during out stay to talk about Canada ( where we’re from) and made us feel incredibly welcomed. Thank you Miguel.
Renee and the female Chef ( I can’t remember her name I’m sorry) gave us the BEST guacamole class EVER ! Renee was hilarious ! He had guests including us entertained, laughing and learning. Amazing job- thank you both !
Zayel: Manager on Duty: He was amazing. I was suffering from bug bites and nothing was working so he took time to recommend ice and cooling my legs (BIG TIP FOR THAT) which made a world of difference. He went the extra mile to visit with us and see that our stay was wonderful. Any concerns or questions we had he helped us with immediately. His customer service was fantastic. Thank you Zayel !
Bug Bites: If you unlucky enough to have this happen they are not like regular mosquito bites. Scratching them makes them expand. Heat irritates them. A tip I used was icing and/or then literally sticking my legs in the pool made a HUGE difference.
Here is A Tip for the Resort:
The problem with the activities is that they were limited by amount of people.
Many activities had a limit of 6-10 people which is disappointing.
For example pool biking. I didn’t get to do it because even though I came early, I missed out because people had already signed up. This is also an issue because the activities are not only limited to how many people, they are not offered every day.
The other issue is that some of the classes aren’t long enough - e.g my archery point.
And Last Food/Drinks: The Market buffet was for breakfast and lunch only. It was a nice option. The desserts and sweets were exceptional.
Italian - the soup was cold, food was nothing exciting. The portion sizes are humorously small.
Bordeaux (French restaurant) - The food wasn’t great. Same small portions.
Seaside- not a great selection
Himitsu - we didn’t get a reservation in time but we didn’t try that hard.
El Patio - the menu was unappealing so we left.
This is a hotel that should open their buffet for dinner especially for guests who stay longer than a week. After 2 weeks, the same menu got tiresome and we started eating larger lunches at the buffet to that we didn’t have to go to the restaurants in the evening.
Coco Cafe: This is a great option for daily coffee and snacks. Great service.
Drinks: The service for drinks was excellent. The fruity drinks tasted like they were mixes instead of fresh fruits.
Ratings are hard because they don’t individualize - Here’s mine
Service - 5 stars
Room - 5 stars
Food/Drinks- 3
Programs - 5 (when you can go to them)
Restaurant Choices - 3
Hotel Cleanliness/Ambiance - 5
Transport to the Airport - 2
At the end of our trip when they ask for a survey I gave the food better valuation because of the buffet element. Ratings can be hard when they are blanket statements.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Nice vacation at Barcelo Maya Riviera Resort
Beautiful, clean, modern, huge buffet, polite and very hard working servers.
The negative: dinner reservations very limited and took an hour to book when restaurant only half full!?! ,distance from airport, very late entertainment and no entertainment showed up on New Years!
Resort had many young couples, Spanish speaking European tourists which games at bar were geared to.
Snorkelling on site but better at Palace.
Need to do own research of amenities at other 5 Barcelo.
