Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Too many Mosquitos, they use a fog machine for!

The hotel and grounds were pretty and the food was good, however there were too many mosquitoes on the grounds to enjoy the stay. To make matters worse the hotel uses a fog mochine in the evenings to spray for the mosquitoes. I has burning eyes and headaches the whole week I was there. The hotel does not worn the residents about the fogging machine and if you are walking around after sunset or sitting on your balcony you will be sprayed with pesticides too. I got sprayed by the pesticides when s [... read more]itting on my balcony the last day of my stay. I've been having a headache and upset stomach plus Muscle weekends since then. I would not recommend the hotel in the mosquito season.

Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful resort

It is a paradise, everything was beautiful. Staff were polite and respectful and tried to help whichever they could. Lunch and dinner needed more innovative dishes and variety. Ice cream was not available at the 24/7 snack bar seeing as it was so very hot.... Loved our private beach but not the mosquitos....

Memories Paraiso: Not a 4.5 * Resort Falsely Rated

From the time we arrived at the airport until the moment we left the hotel things were bad. On May 1st the hotel Changed ownership. The staff were unprepared and it showed in bad service and horrible food. The hotel refused to acknowledge our diamond club status until the day 13! Our room was very outdated and not serviced regularly, including not restocking the minibar. All staff especially the bar tenders expected tips or wouldn't give you service. The baby club was not managed properly. It wa [... read more]s not a place you would leave your children and feel safe. The toys were broken and never cleaned. Only one area had minimal air conditioning. Staff were more interested in braids that childcare. The only plus to this hotel is the beach. It is accurately described. Soft white sand and tourquise water. There is absolutely nothing to do at this resort except swim and drink unless you take a tour off the island. This was our 5th trip to Cuba. First time to Cauo Santa Maria and last time. We will never return to Memories or Cuba.

Memories Paraiso: Great place!

I had a great time at Memories! My room was clean and functioning, the food (including À la cartes) was great, the Catamaran excursion is highly recommended and the beach is unforgettable. I'd go back tomorrow.

Memories Paraiso: Disappointed

I did not feel the 4&1/2 star rating was accurate. While the beach was gorgeous it was the best part of the resort. This was our third trip to Cuba and this was the first time we were disappointed. The service at the hotel was slow and most of the staff were not as friendly as at the other resorts in Cuba. The staff didn't seem to be at all happy to serve us. The al la cartes did not have the food items that were listed on their menus. The room was comfortable and clean however there was mold and mildew on the ceiling above the tub. We heard from other couples who had visited this same resort in previous years that the resort's overall service and food had deteriorated. Needless to say we were quite disappointed in the resort and wouldn't choose to return there.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Resort Bueno!! Air Canada Vacations..NEVER AGAIN!

Hotel itself... Lovely and the rooms are Sensual...Workers....Amazing and easily approachable and fun and guess what?? They are human too...even super human when you have to think about their day and not yours..Beaches, Breathtaking and total over all rating.AWESOME..people go to the beach!!!!. Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Eurostar Cuba

Honestly the most amazing week !! The food was unreal the resort was so clean and beautiful.. Loved the staff everyone was super amazing! Going back ASAP!!! The resort was close to other resorts (which we saw) and they were definitely not as nice as ours.. Can't wait to return!

Memories Paraiso: Best Beach Ever!!!

The resort was well kept, but could be a little more clean in the rooms. There was some mold issues in the bathroom. The food was okay. The staff were very friendly and tried to help whenever they could. The beach takes the golden award, flour like sand beneath your toes. It was so clean and well persevered i could have stayed an a box and been fine. Greatly priced for the quality you got.

Memories Paraiso: Amazing Resort

This was our first vacation south and we are glad we book this resort it was totally amazing the beach and resort were absolutely beautiful. They had a great variety of food selection so there was something for every taste.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Great Beach

The rooms were fine, there was no seafood available anywhere on the resort and other menu items were limited. The staff was less friendly than other places we've stayed in Cuba. We had much better food in Holguin 2 years ago. There is no dancing but the shows were ok. Last week of April the Mosquitos were terrible.

Melia Las Dunas: Amazing resort

This resort has everything you need, for families and adults without children. It is a large resort but nothing is more than a five minute walk away. The beach is incredible and there is always space and chairs and huts to get out of the shade. The staff are the most helpful, caring and humble people I ever met. We upgraded to VIP rooms after our first night at a cost of $100 CAD per person for the entire 9 day stay. It was well worth it. The Air Canada representative was great and arranged private excursions for us to nearby Cuban towns as well as a day excursion on a catamaran - the highlight of our trip. The buffet was so-so, but once we figured out that you could have breakfast and lunch at one of the many snack bars and dinner at the a la carte restaurants, we were off to the races. The pools are wonderful, with space for all. We had no worries about beach towels. The maid service was impeccable and we tipped them well. Fresh water, beer and sodas were provided everyday. The resort has North American electricity, so no need to worry about taking converters. There was always something happening in the main lobby for children and adults alike. Try the coffee with milk - yummy. There is a currency exchange on site and you can book excursions with Visa. The transport to and from the airport was seamless. We went at the beginning of May which is the start of rainy season. If we go back (which is likely) we would go earlier in the year. Trip Central was amazing and pulled off a complicated booking for us - three travelling from Ottawa and one from Halifax for a very reasonable price. Thank you Trip Central! You rock!

Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful Resort

This resort was beautiful. The pools are amazing with the ocean in the bacground. The grounds were well kept. There needs to be improvement of the food, more variety and the resteraunts were terrible. The staff were great. Entertainment in the lobby bar at night was fantastic .the beach was amazing.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Amazing Resort

Enjoyed the resort very much and am very pleased I went privileged as there was no problem getting a chair at the privileged pool. The food was great, service was great, staff was amazing the only thing I have to say is the water in the pool wasn't fit to swim in it was green.

Beautiful beach colour and amazing white sand.. super nice staff very helpful great room very clean super nice bathrooms wonderful ocean view from the balcony. quite night life.. Disco only open selected nights

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Amazing Vacation

My husband and I along with another couple stayed at Melia Cayo Santa Maria the week of May 3 - May 10. We had an incredible vacation. The resort is beautifully landscaped and the grounds are kept very clean. Our room was spacious and bright. The staff do an incredible job on all service levels. The front desk staff had the best customer service I have seen in all my trips south. Melia Las Dunas: Amazing vacation

This hotel is amazing! The food was great and the staff was always friendly. The resort and the beach were beautiful, and even when it rained there was always something to do. Would definitely return!

Memories Paraiso: Won't go back to Cuba anytime soon

The beach was amazing! Rooms were basic. We traveled as a family of 5 - it was tight! Mosquitoes!!! BRING SPRAY! Food was the same, you don't go hungry but you are never satisfied. Although,Italian was tasty! Bring a refil cup - the cups are super small and ice is rare. Cappuccino in main lobby was superb! Employees work for tips - it is an expectation. If you are a beach goer, you must visit Cuba at least once. Go knowing Cuba's travel standards are not the same and enjoy some R&R. Don't bring your device. We chose Cuba based on price, I wish we paid a little more and went to DR.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Great place to stay!!

We really enjoyed our stay here! The staff were very nice and over accommodating. The food was great we had no issues. The room was very clean and spaces. The grounds were amazing the beach was awesome.

Melia Las Dunas: Good Times

Melia las dunas offers an excellent beach and nice rooms. I was on the ground floor and had a cockroach or two stroll through. Beverages were decent, we were able to get Sol beer at the sports bar until early afternoon but then had to switch back to the not so great Cristal. There wasn't a lot of activities or partying happening. I probably wouldn't attend Las Dunas again but it's all what your looking for. Nice beach and relaxation its pretty good. Food was pretty typical with an okay buffet.

Melia Las Dunas: 2nd time Pleasure

This was a second visit to Las Dunas and I have only good things to say. Now mind you when we first checked in my room was pretty bad....however I went to see Alejandro and he had everything fixed to beyond satisfaction in no time! He upgraded us to 2 new rooms in Building 41 and they were lovely! The grounds are lovely as well....it is a BIG resort but there is so much interesting vegetation to see along the way. There are a couple of broken stairs at the base of the stair to the beach which makes it difficult manage. The weather this year was a bit of a disappointment, it thundered at least once a day...;-( no fault of Cuba or the resort....but there isn't a lot to do in the rain at the resort....(but again this really isn't a complaint just a heads up). One day there was a hurricane in Havana and there were torrential rains and we took the panorama bus on its tour and that was pretty something...not for the faint of heart....but interesting. Another day we went to the market which was quite nice, bring pesos though as they don't do credit etc. The food is basic Cuban fair but the Beer Garden is great at lunch time and we were invited to a Gala event (because we were 2nd yr guests) and it was great....good entertainment and interesting food. All in all Melia Las Dunas is a very good resort!!!
