Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Resort Did Not live Up to Hype

We stayed at this resort December 9th-16th. Resort is classified 4.5 stars, clearly did not live up to that. We travelled as a group of 4, my wife and I are seasoned travelers with 20 beach holidays under our belts, this was our 5th trip to Cuba, 3rd to Varadero. The Good- beach is beautiful, plenty of chairs, water clarity excellent. Beach extends for miles each way, excellent for long walks. For the most part, staff friendly and willing to help. Grounds are nicely maintained. The Bad- Resort is showing its age and in need of up keep, hand rails in buildings are loose, unstable. Our building & my sister's/brother in laws hand rails held together with plastic zip ties and phone cords. Male washroom at pool not in service all week, female washroom closed for a few days. Sinks & hand dryers throughout resort are not in service. For 2 days, beach washrooms were also not in service. Our room had an unpleasant septic bathroom odor. Food options were limited, what they had was tasty but repetitive, no beach bbq. All of us tried ordering chicken, each time could not eat as clearly uncooked. Lighting is an issue at night, walk ways are dark, stair lights are missing and need replacement. The Ugly- Gym, we work out regularly, was disgustingly dirty, floor mats were stained and torn, we placed our beach towels on the mats to avoid direct contact. More than 50% equipment out of service. I ended up stretching on my bed Vs going to gym the last few days. Sand flies were terrible (not resort's fault) stopped counting when I hit 100 welts, itching was absolutely horrible. Even Polysporin & Benadryl did not eliminate the discomfort. By the 13th we were all ready to go home, our bags packed the mourning of 15th for a 3 PM flight home on 16th. This is the first review I have wrote, am disappointed this resort was highly recommended to us. We are open minded people and believe complaints are the easiest thing to comment on, for us there is good reason. We will not ever return to this resort.

All the best,amazing resort and good service! We enjoyed the pools, beach and the rest in the resort. Food wasn't my favorite but I always found something good to eat.I think resort need some renovation and furniture change special in the lobby. All workers are very good and friendly,so we realy enjoyed stay in this hotel.Whit all heard we wll recomand to our friends and we willbe back soon.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Disappointing

Food selection was extremely limited..some chicken and hamburgers were raw in centre. Rooms were comfortable although housekeeping service lacked. Resort washrms were not clean and often wreaked of urine. Many washrms had broken locks on doors. Stairwell railings were held together with ty wraps. The service of staff however was wonderful. The beaches were beautiful but overrun with sandflies leaving all of us with limbs covered in bites even though insect repellent was applied. Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: very good resort

amazing entertainment and activity daily and every night ,different restaurant to book for night,24 hours snack bar and there are bars everywhere, beautiful beach and swimming pool, nice employee.

Los Delfines: Great downtown resort!

My room was pretty basic and everyone else agreed about theirs, but it’s a small resort downtown that is close to everything. The staff are incredibly friendly, I particularly loved the Pedro from the entertainment team- lots of fun! I recommend to everyone.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Best resort in Varadero

My boyfriend and I just returned from our 3 days vacation at Royalton. It was his 2nd time in Cuba and my 9th but the first at Royalton. It was such an incredible experience for both of us. Very clean resort, excellent food. I miss the king size bed and double sized tub. Loved loved this place and can’t wait to go back in February or April. This time we will bring family with us.

A good variety of facilities, activities and the entertainment was exceptional, helpful, friendly staff, very clean but a bit tired, great beach, beautiful grounds and swimming pools but the food was average and the internet service was poor.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Very Very nice Resort!!

My wife and I stayed at the Laguna Azul early december 2018! The staff are fantastic!! always have a smile and of course a "Ola!!" when you pass by them. Rooms are good, cleaned every day........ we stayed in a room with two double beds..............the beds are small and difficult for two of us to sleep in. Food is also very good with lots of selection and the drinks just keep coming. Bar tenders are very quick and have lots of personality which equals FUN for all.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Will not stay there again resort

Rooms were not updated and the flush kept leaking water It was clear that the rooms needed a lot of upgrading The towels were not changed, neither was the sheets Food was OK Beach was really good Location was the saving grace

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Improvement requires

The reason we picked this resort because of it is still fairly new but to our surprise it already start to run down. We had to move our room on the second night because of flooding from underneath the bathtub onto the hallway and created a large pool of water. It wasn’t fun to do that at midnight for two hours packing & unpacking. We checked the area & noticed it was repaired before because of the watermarks on the wall, so obviously it wasn’t repaired properly the last time. Theatre h [... read more]ad to shut one night & the show was moved to outside of the lobby due to flooding in the theatre washrooms. There were six stalls in the ladies room on the lobby & restaurants level but four out of six stalls are always locked so can’t be used. Not sure if the resort is trying to save cleaning time or again drainage problems. Pool towels are out by 11:00 am and had to wait until 3:00 pm. and none by 4:30 pm. Really?? The resort is not even at full capacity, can’t imagine what would be like if it is.

Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Okay resort if you can go cheap , good location.

The beach is really nice has its own private beach bar. A lot of rude russians some were nice people but this is mainly a russian resort - but seems like canadians get good service. it's what you should expect of a 2 1/2 star resort. Buffet was normally alright not great but edible most nights they served chicken and beef on the grill and pasta with tomato soup as sauce or white sauce, rice, fresh bread, , cut up sausage ect Sometimes they would grill turkey Or liver..for breakfast the [... read more]y made omelets toast pancakes and on the occasion french toast, cut up sausages , ect The a la cart pizza was really good but it was about an hour and a half wait from the time you sit down to the time you're served food. between buffets the snack bar makes hamburgers and grilled ham sandwiches - again foods so/so ( ask for burgers well done). The rooms weren't bad cleaned everyday a/c worked great bed we're comfortable enough and clean, make sure to ask for a room with a working safe! even numbered rooms have balconies (that are normally flooded from the A/C) the rooms had okay water pressure and warm enough water all the time,they were upgrading the tvs to flat screens from the top floor to the bottom they had yet to do the 3rd floor down.( my tube tv worked but was nearly impossible to change the channels found a good movie channel and left it on there for the week) our maid was nice left some gifts for her! we never had any issues or anything go missing bars stop serving at 1am and don't serve liquor until 10am bar service is iffy , sometimes can take 10 minutes to get a drink and is easier just to go to the next bar for better service then waiting around (especially if they're doing their paper work) - Bring a big cup for drinks!! we had one server tell us we we're his worst enemy at the pool bar because we we're talking to his "girlfriend" - told us to only talk to him for a drink - worst service I've had in cuba by far in my life.. but besides that still had a great time, not a great resort but its in a great location , we met lots of cool people that made the trip right in downtown varadero , scooter rentals across the road , has its own private beach and bar worth if if you can go cheap - maily a russian resort though.

Melia Las Antillas: Fair resort

Resort is fair but not amazing. The bar was ok. Service ok. The food lacked variety. The room service was very good. The beach amazing as usual. The grounds very well maintained . The rooms needs renewal especially the washrioms

Club Kawama: Aye Kawama

Welcome to your private little village. Two little gift shops, two bars, coffee shop, two pools, massage, gym and winding paths to two storey quaint accommodations. Oh and miles and miles of beach. Remember you are in the oldest hotel in Varedero and in a tropical climate. It is dated and a tad worn down but who needs more than clean sheets? An easy walk into the main area of town and the market or great access to the hop-on-hop-off bus service.

Iberostar Origin Tainos: Great resort.

All around very good bang for your buck. Always a good variety of dishes. The property was kept clean. Our room was comfortable and well done every day. Nightly entertainment was good. Our interaction with employees came with a smile.

The hotel and surrounding buildings were very clean. Gardeners on site daily trimming flowers and trees. Beautiful landscaping. Very colourful. Rooms were comfortable and cleaned on a daily basis. Washrooms on the resorts always cleaned. The food was good and had a lot of variety. The snack bar near the beach also was good. The beach was great and had games and volleyball. Also in the lobby had a few stores to buy souvenirs. The gym didn't have no air conditioning but was ok. The customer service was very good.

the buffet was repeatitive, always the same food morning,lunch and supper, very few choice, it was clean, but on the last day we found a coach roach in our room, not impressed, as for drinks often you had to go get your drinks cause they did not come around that often, will not be going back to that resort, it was not a 5 star hotel, maybe a 3 1/2 to 4

Melia Marina Varadero: Amazing Resort

This Hotel was very nice, the staff are very polite, humble and look after your needs with care and they are all so very efficient and happy daily. The food is not bad, but that's not too important for me on my vacation, My room and view makes my Holiday. The front desk staff did her best to get us this room #1410 We had an amazing view. There was no shrimp or lobster through out our stay. Breakfast was great, the eggs taste so much better than what we have in North America. Glenda and Yasmany at the Lobby Bar are the very BEST. The maid and the staff in the dining are try their best to get you everything you need. The maid of course did such a great job making us animal designs everyday when we get to our room. We paid cheap and got more than what we paid for.

Overall the this was a very good deal for the price paid (830$ 1 week) Hotel is large, many bars and pools on a spread out area Clean, 'normal' room. There was 1/2-1 day with no hot water but they fixed it. Beach is on the best part of Varadero Food is as expected in Cuba Drinks are as expected. local selection only (fee for others). Of note there was no local beer due to a factory issue and the hotel replaced it with Heineken. Thank you! Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Nice resort, great people, bad timing (weather wasn't great!)

The resort as a whole was quite nice, although the rooms were kind of ordinary. The wifi was not what I'm accustomed to, no idea it it's the infrastructure or the resort - and there's really no television to speak of - so don't bother to go here if your plan is to hibernate in a room!
