Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Wonderful Resort

We had a great time! The grounds were very well kept, a couple small issues with our room but they quickly addressed them. The service & people were amazing! Would Definitely recommend the resort! 👍

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: For my first all inclusive I thought it was done very well. The staff were excellant very accomodating and friendly. The room was clean and I had no problems with anything except the phone did not work, I reported it but nothing was done. overall it was a great holiday!

Look up I put it in the wrong section. Would very much like to go back but on the ground floor going up and down the flight of stairs was hard on the old knees. All and all it was a great vacation. Already looking forward to the next trip.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Friendly staff

First impression arriving at night was beautiful! Grounds are well kept. Extremely friendly staff. Poor room maintenance, switched twice, blood&snot on walls & mirrors, hair on floor. Peanut allergy not taken seriously at Thai fusion a la carte restaurant. Went to the restaurant earlier in the day to inform of my allergy, and was told exactly what dish to stay away from. We ordered an appetizer platter w spring rolls, calamari etc, a few bites in our server( one of the staff members we spoke to  [... read more]that afternoon) informs us that the chicken on the plate has a peanut sauce, which was almost touching the spring rolls!!!! We had to explain that it should not even be on the same plate!!! We left and spoke to the general manager of the resort the next morning. She was very sympathetic, and gave us a letter stating we will be getting 20%refund on our vacation for this issue and the room issues from air transat! The resort also gave us a couples massage and a 5 coarse romantic lobster dinner in the beach.

We enjoyed the atmosphere on the resort. Staff was amazing friendly and courteous ,food great, very clean grounds. Beds were very hard and pillows not overly comfortable But otherwise we had good time. Beach was unkept so we didn't spend any time there , mostly by the pool. Pool clarity wasn't the greatest the entire time we were there but wasn't a make it or break it for me We would go back again value for the dollar was really good

I.e. noise, smoking in rooms etc seemed very unstructured and lacking in true concern. Entertainment lacked sensivity towards females.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Fun week in the D.R.

Great week at Blue Bay Villas. The grounds are well groomed. The public areas and washrooms were clean. Lots of lounge chairs at the beach, not so much at the pool. The food at the buffet and the a la cartes was varied and plentiful. The best part was the staff, friendly, attentive, excellent service. The entertainment was lively and fun. One minor problem was the safe in my room didn't close and the promised replacement never materialized, but overall my 7 friends and I had a fun week.

Pay bar only in lobby! ..arrived there at 10 am got our room at 530 pm !!!! mini bar in room 2 beers water 2 pops free.. after that $10 a day to restock !! What part of all inclusive is that? water is free ..food was excellent room was clean .grounds were well kept ..beach water brown. had a pleasent stay never will go back

Overall, our stay @ BBGE was enjoyable! We traveled with our 6 month old, so we were quite easy going. The resort itself is HUGE. Bring your walking shoes! The staff were always friendly and willing to let us hitch a ride on their golf cart if there was extra room (in lieu of waiting for the official 'bus'...which we seemed to always miss!) Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Could be a great resort

Staff fabulous, friendly and always smiling. Buffet very good with endless selection. A la cartel not so good, over rated and over priced. Rooms not very clean, especially with hair and dust balls on floor and in corners. Liquor was watered down except after dinner liqueurs. No meant No to beach vendors.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: A great week.

We had an amazing time during our stay at Blue Bay Villas Doradas. Nothing but great things to say about the staff, especially the party committee was very entertaining. The worst part was our small room had no balcony, but our own fault for not getting a better room package. Overall it was a good bang for our buck.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Beautiful resort - excellent food !

We just got back from a 7 day vacation here and it was fantastic. This resort is one of the larger ones we’ve been to and would not be great for travelers with mobility issues. It’s basically split into 2 areas. The lobby, majority of a la cartes, main buffet, gym, theatre, and quiet pool with two buildings for accommodations are all in the jungle and where you first arrive. It’s about a 10 min walk and very scenic with iguanas and another creature we called lemurs (but arent). There were golf carts and other shuttles running back and forth but weren’t consistent. Aside from the weather being amazing the food was a highlight. Breakfast was available at 2 locations but more plentiful in the main buffet. My husband had 1/2 coffee 1/2 bailey’s every morning x2 or 3 and I had at least 1 mimosa. Servers were very attentive and quick to refill. We noticed that most of the alcohol was free without a privileged wristband. Our favourite a la cartes were the seafood ( the grilled salmon over crunchy potatoes was AMAZING!!) and the Oriental. We went to both twice. The evening shows were varied. The best by far was the circus one. You must see it!!! Grease and Aladdin were also good. They repeat the set every 7 days so if you are there for more than a week plan accordingly. Best surprise was if you walked up the beach to the left (North) about 1 km there was a fresh water stream flowing into the ocean. The water was crystal clear and so blue. You can swim in this for free. There is a very strong current flowing towards the ocean but water got shallow before reaching the ocean so it wasn’t dangerous and you could stand to walk to the side. We rented a double kayak from the resort for 30US$ and went up stream to a cenote to snorkel. The water was very clear but not any colourful fish. The biggest disappointment but we had been warned by other reviews is the beach is not great along the oceans edge. Tonnes of seaweed that they attempted to rake to the sides once or twice and sat in rotting piles. Very stinky and lots of bugs at the ends of the beach. The water was very brown and cloudy and I ventured in hoping for sand but most was a slimy bottom. Don’t go here if you are a lover of swimming in clear blue ocean waters off the resort. If you walk south on the beach past 2 resorts they have clear water and sand so you can swim there as a last resort. The activities around the pool were plentiful and entertaining to watch if you weren’t in the mood to participate. We played a ton of beach volleyball. They had a good court with proper net and lines. But quality of games will always depend on the skill off the other tourists during your stay. We were lucky!!

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Bluebay stay from March 10th-17th 2018

The staff at the Bluebay was so friendly and efficient. The rooms are decent and the food was good. There is always something you could find to eat. Salad bar was great with lots of choices. Unfortunately the beach was not nice at all but the pools were great. I would recommend this resort to someone who didn't care for sitting on the beach and swimming in the ocean.

The resort was average. I would rate it stars. I went on other reviews, most raved but realistically it was average. The food got better as the week progressed. Lots of selection but quality of food was 5 out of 10. Lots of sodium in the food. Rooms were clean but outdated and basic. Our room flooded during rain storm one night and front desk never responded until next morning until 10am. Constantly being pestered by people selling goods and services on the beach. Entertainment was mediocre. I w [... read more]ould not return. Air Canada Rouge overbooked seats and we had to wait almost until boarding for seats. We booked trip in July. Very disappointing. Weather was great and so were the folks we met. Resort was very clean and staff were nice.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Beautiful wedding

We had our wedding at BBGE and the wedding was truely wonderful. However, we bought the most expensive package that included spa massages, a dinner for the wedding couple on the beach, dinner rehearsal for wedding party, etc. These were supposed to be all booked for us and none of them were so I was quite disappointed in the arrangements. Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Great stay

The hotel is so much nicer than it looks in pictures. The grounds were clean and tropical. As soon as you walked in they offered a drink with the friendliest smile. All the workers were there to help and lend a hand. The rooms were nice however the air conditioning wasn't able to be changed. The pools were clean and the water was a perfect temperature. The food was always really good and there was always many options. Overall I had a blast!

The beach was horrible, full of seaweed in the water as apparently the machine that cleans the ocean was broken during high peak season. There was a 24 hour bar open which lead to the problem of vacationers coming to their hotel rooms at all hours of the night and early morning hours. The doors and hallways are very loud and do not keep out the outside noise. Only had 1 night of actual complete sleep as I was unfortunate to encounter families who let their children bounce balls against the room  [... read more]walls and individuals got so drunk they pretended to be security as they locked themselves out of the room. The buffet lacked flavour, but the a la cartes were delicious and clearly the chefs at the resort do know how to cook good food. The rooms were nicely cleaned but the sliding door was broken and some lights needed to be replaced in the room. The servers in the restaurants were all great and cheerful. The individuals arranging the bookings for the a la cartes are not so helpful as if they encounters problems with booking they do not take any responsibility and simply respond that's how we do things in mexico. We unfortunately had to go above to the concierge to resolve this issue and get reservations for the restaurants. There was also not much night life after the show at night. Usually a band played from 10:30 - 11:00 pm most nights. Some nights after the band their was a DJ playing until 1 am. At the wedding the DJ ended at 10 pm and was not playing much of the music that the bride had requested, which she had to continually approach the DJ for him to change the music to what she requested. The wedding party and guests were also separated into many different buildings across the resort regardless of having gone through a travel agent for the booking. I also had requested and was told that I would be getting an adjoining room with my parents, when I got to the hotel I did not only have a completely separate room, it was also on a completely different floor and the resort did nothing to change this as it was requested 1 year in advance when I booked. The pools were nice as they offered a good ledge all the way around, however many tiles in the pool were broken and our feet a bodies were cut numerous times as well as the lounge chairs were broken and when you informed the staff they did nothing and left the broken chairs there. A relative also ordered room service as they are physically disabled and could not get out of their room on the day that it was pouring rain due to being in a wheel chair, they did not send a car to transport this relative to the food areas so they ordered room service. The room service not only did not show up but when they called they said it was coming an hour after ordering. An additional hour went by and they called back down and were told they had no order for that room anywhere and no food showed up. The relative was also diabetic and the resort did nothing until the bride went to the Manager of the hotel to complain. He offered free lunch room service the next day, which is pointless as it was the day of her wedding and we were not there to have room service during the day. They did offer a food appetizer platter and a bottle of wine that they sent up to the room as a form of apology. I personally would not go back to this particular resort as I have gone to many other places for much cheaper then what I paid and received better service and quality.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Blue bay - fantastic food

Everything was great, was a lot of seaweed at the beach, but that is everywhere apparently, didn't affect us......also buildings are very dated, which didn't matter other than the bathtub design. The staff is great and the food is excellent. You can swim in the ocean....a nice lazy river is a ten minute walk from the beach.

The staff was very friendly, the food, while limited (Only 3 ala carte restaurants, was very good. The buffet had sufficient variety that I could eat very well, even though I am vegetarian. Vegans may have a bit more of a challenge. We went on some wonderful tours as well. The only downside is that if you want to go to the pool, unless you get there very early, the chairs are all taken, even though there are only a couple of people in the pool. Somewhere I had read that you should not reserve c [... read more]hairs, but this was largely not enforced. Some people prefer to spend a lot of time on the beach. We were warned that the beaches in Puerto Plata are not that good because the sand is not white. We did not care about that. The sand is similar to that of beaches in Ontario. We are also not the type of people that spend the entire time on the beach. We prefer to get out and visit the community we are in. This is what we did. We got to see a school, interact with the students, see a farm and spend time in the city.

Water at the beach was brown. Didn't want to go in. Pools were nice. Got sick ever day from the food. Spent a lot of time in the washroom. Food was always cold. Not a lot of shaded areas to sit by the pools. Didn't like having to pay for lost hotel or pool cards. Not a lot to do unless you paid for an excursion.
