Melia Peninsula Varadero: Not recommended!

Beach was nice, pool was nice. Food was terrible, mostly cold and the same every meal. Not as we remember Cuba People and staff are wonderful. Choose another location. Best to try another country until things improve in a Cuba. This is definitely not a four plus star resort.

Melia Las Americas: Amazing!

Las Americas was amazing! We upgraded to the Level and it was absolutely worth the extra money. The service by the Level staff was impeccable and they were accommodating to all of our needs and requests. Our room was very clean, the food at the a la carte restaurants was very good, and the food from the grill by the swim up bar pool was delicious! There was something for everyone at the buffet. Sol Caribe Beach: Beautiful Resort Great Time

Well maintained modern hotel with nice grounds and pools. The rooms were minimalist, clean with sturdy comfy beds and pillows. Neutral tile work with nicely accents in the room and throughout the hotel and pool. The food was just ok and lacked variety but plentiful. Service was great but shortages including Pinacolada, no Guava juice, Coke or Sprite made it somewhat dissatisfying for me. The red and white wines were nice. Melia Internacional: Amazing Resort!!

The entire week was an amazing experience for me and my spouse. The people are nice, service was amazing it was truly an amazing experience. I would recommence people to visit this location you won’t regret it.

Melia Las Dunas: Fair resort, if you can get a deal

This must have been the 20th time that I have been to Cuba, the third time that I’ve been to Cayo Santa Maria, so I knew what to expect. The hotel was a bit disappointing as it was rundown. The patio door was not locking, the rubber Underneath the front door was broken, allowing bugs to come in. Not that we saw many in the room. We did see quite a few ants in our room. Considering the supply shortage in Cuba, I did not know what to expect. Cannot blame the hotel for this, but it was a chance we took. The food was subpar compared to the hotel that I had been to previously. Subpar to any Cuban resort that I’ve been to. The beach and the ocean was amazing as usual, one of the nicest that I’ve been to in the Caribbean, the staff at the bar, at the restaurants, we’re generally pleasant and friendly, our maid was amazing, one of the best that I have ever had. I had friends who have stayed at this resort in the past, and they have all claimed there was not much entertainment at night. But the week I was there, there was sufficient entertainment, shows at night, musicians, playing, dance, parties, one thing that was surprising to me was that they were not many Canadians staying at this hotel. We ran into a family from Quebec, and two different groups from Toronto. Besides that, all the other guests appeared to be either from Europe, or different South American countries. At every resort that I’ve been to, I’ve always run into Canadians from various parts of the country, but this time around it appeared to be rare. Hearing someone speak English was a novelty. Lol. The resort itself is very big, so be ready to walk a lot. There are staff that will drive you around to your room, but sometimes the wait could be long making it worthwhile to walk. After a couple of days, I had blisters on my toes from walking too much, probably because I was walking with wet sandals. I did not try the pool because I am not a pool person, but it appeared to be clean. Albeit very chlorinated. This is a fair resort if you can get a good deal if you are OK with a resort that is somewhat rundown. My next time around, I will probably be going to the Meliá cayoSanta Maria , which is formerly the Playa Cayo Santa Maria. it’s the adjoining hotel right next-door. But is much smaller, and catered more to Canadians, from what I recall., although times have changed from my last time there which was pre-pandemic.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Forest Paradise!

This is a return trip from 2007 visit. The hotel is one of the most beautiful and unique compared to most other places I visited. This hotel for the people who appreciate the beautiful architecture, space, lots of greenery and family like feeling. Wi-fi is available everywhere, including the the beach. The Hotel was closed for Covid and renovations for 4 years and still doesn't have many people visiting since opening 6 months ago.. Also, 24 hours snack bar is always open and has some good food options as well. If you like noise, dancing, animations - this is not for you. If you don't want to walk 15000 steps a day and stares - this is not for you. (though the carts to drive you are always available on demand) However, if you are looking for quiet and beautiful paradise, if you love nature, walking, swimming, you would enjoy this unique quiet place a lot.

Sol Cayo Coco: Resort amazing, clean, well kept, waitresses and waiters very good, a la cartes terrific.

The lobby was impressive, large, airy, and comfortable, with an excellent bar. Bartenders were great, as were staff in general. Room was clean and bed was very comfy. Entertainment impressed us. Though first time, I would go again.

Paradisus Los Cayos: Amazing Experience!!

Amazing hotel, just like the pictures. The staff here are very nice and accommodating. Nice beach and pool and lots to do at night. Only down side is you don’t get much options when it comes to food.

Sol Caribe Beach: Avoid

Rooms nothing like pictures. Mold and mildew in the rooms even though there has been work done in the rooms.Some renovations mostly bathrooms tiles... the mold is in the air conditioner unit they need cleaning out.(still the old ceiling ones) The air conditioner did not work very strong and made a thud, thud,thud.. when it shut off and on. I read reviews before I went. I have to say it is true they don't help you at the front desk as far as where your room is located in the resort or anything at the resort. No map of the whole resort anywhere to be found and the resort is big spread out. We were in room 1177. Don't go stay away...Now the food horrible, repeative, no sea food describes it best...cuba is not known for food but this is the worst we have had in Cuba EVER...we have stayed in cayo coco at Pullman and was plentiful and seafood galore. Pool was clean but hot not refreshing. At the beach the blue chairs are okay and white chairs are old and uncomfortable.If you want a blue chair you have to get up early and save one. Unfortunately around the beach chairs people use the sand as a huge ashtray! Cigarettes butts everywhere its gross. The only positive the Ocean was beautiful and the water was warm.(Cayo Coco beaches much prettier)

Paradisus Varadero: Terrible food but nice beach

I recently stayed at the Paradisus Varadero resort with an amazing view and a nice beach, but unfortunately, my overall experience was marred by several significant issues. The food at the resort was terrible and I ended up getting sick from it. Not only was the food the same every day, but it was also left out in the open air, with birds picking at it. The rooms were not clean, with pillows that smelled of sweat and pests such as cockroaches and lizards present. Some rooms had broken thermo [... read more]stats and stained bedding. In addition, my body is covered in mosquito bites, adding to my discomfort during the stay. Despite returning from my trip two days ago, I am still suffering from diarrhea, cramps, nausea, and the itching from numerous mosquito bites, which I believe are a result of the conditions at the resort. I would strongly advise against staying at this resort until they address these serious issues. The management needs to improve the cleanliness of the rooms, address the food quality and safety concerns, and ensure that guests are not exposed to health risks during their stay. Overall, my experience at this resort was extremely disappointing and I would not recommend it to others.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: No better place in Cuba

This was our 5th trip to Paradisus Rio de Oro. Our last time was in 2019 so it was great to get back. The resort has everything we need but the main thing that keeps us coming back is the people. We have made some life-long friendships with staff members, many who we've kept in touch with over our 5 year absence. After a disappointing 2 hour check in, the rest of our trip was amazing. We expected the food might not be what we experienced in previous years, but there was always plenty to eat at the buffet and the pizza at the pool restaurant is one of our go tos .... We had great a la carte experiences at the Japanese, Mediterranean and Cuban restaurants as well as an amazing dinner in the Royal Service restaurant, set up for us by one of their awesome staff. The beach is the same beautiful beach we remember and the pool is amazing. After being away from our favorite resort it was a well needed return that we will cherish until we get back again. I can't say enough again about the staff...always doing whatever they can for you and I value so much the friendships we have made there. I just wish some of the guests would see what we see in them and maybe treat them a little better....not just with tips... No question that we will continue going to this resort...why would we want to go anywhere else?

Sol Palmeras: Beautiful resort and amazing beach

Very satisfied with the entire experience. All praise for the staff of the hotel and quality of the service. Beach is not to far from the hotel pool and entertainment facilities. May need improvement with coffee quality. Comparing with other hotels in Varadero and price for all inclusive , definitely recommending.

Melia Internacional: Cochroaches

We stayed at Melia Internacional Varadero from July 13-20, 2024. This is our third time in Cuba and this hotel was disappointing. They had no welcome drinks at the front desk and no bell person to help you find and bring suite cases to your room upon check in, which is fine and we can live without those services. When we arrived, our bed sheets and pillow cases were dirty like someone had previously slept in it so we went to the front desk twice to request them change it. They said they would c [... read more]all housekeeping to come to our room but 5 hours later when it was time to go to bed at 11pm, it still wasn't done so I went back to front desk and demand they call housekeeping while I was standing there to make sure they would send someone. The towels all looked dirty so I would recommend bringing your own. In our room, the toilet leaked and it was all we could hear while trying to sleep at night. There are two buffet restaurants but the food is the same at both and they often served spoiled, leftover food. Make sure you smell something first before you put it in your mouth and take only a small bite before you continue eating so you still have time to spit it out and avoid stomach issues. We met 2 families that got sick during their vacation - probably due to food poisoning and bug bites (make sure to bring insect repellent). There are cochroaches everywhere, including restaurants. I personally don't like getting my hotel room cleaned during vacation due to cross contamination of germs/viruses but by day 3, cochroaches were crawling around our room so we had to request them to clean it. The whole resort should get fumigated! Everything appears quite run-down and not very well maintained. Nightly entertainment was ok - they don't have a real stage or theater area. The beach is the best part of the resort - very clean and clear and no seaweed. Location of the hotel is great - near downtown and close enough to the airport to be able to get there quickly but far enough that you don't hear all the planes overhead. Because I don't like getting my room cleaned during vacations, I always put the do not disturb sign up. We noticed my parents did not have a sign so we asked for a sign for them. When we returned to our room, we were disappointed to see they took the sign off our door and put it on my parent's door - this is such lazy service! 99% of the staff are unsympathetic and look bored or unhappy to be helping - they made it seem like customers were such an inconvenience to them. The only happy, enthusiastic staff we met was Osvel at the Merkado buffet restaurant making omelets at breakfast and grilling porkchops at lunch. I think the people giving great reviews were either asked to give it or they upgraded to Level. I wish we brought our own beach towels because they rarely had clean ones we can exchange for. There are 5 A la Carte restaurants and for a 7 day stay, we were only allowed to book 3 restaurants - we cheated the system by booking 3 reservations under our room and then 2 under my parent's room lol. You have to keep reconnecting to wifi after 15 mins of inactivity which got annoying because the only time we could call my parents is if they were also connected to the internet. It also didn't help that the 2 phones in our room was not working. They don't usually like giving bottled water and the only drinks available are wine, beer, and rum - there is no Tequila, vodka, champagne, etc. Though the beach is beautiful and the location is great, I would not recommend this resort.

Melia Costa Rey: Vacation June 2024

Absolutely beautiful resort !! Repeat clients , The resort changed name while we were there July 1st 2024 to Melia Costa Rey We were very impressed with the food , the Buffet was very good with lots of variety, as well as the a la carte restaurants especially the international restaurant was excellent!! I do have two big complaints: 1- Mosquitoes, there is definitely a big problem with the mosquitoes all hours of the day and night to the point of not being able to sit outside and enjoy th [... read more]e shows or to have a drink (never seen anything like this) I hope they get it under control soon. 2- the elevator was out of order the whole time we were there .

Melia Las Americas: Nice Resort

Hotel is okay, we had an ocean view room in the Level section. Room is very large with two bathrooms. Restaurants were good and the service was excellent. Having a room in the level section permitted us to have the imported alcohol beverages. Beach is clean and pleasant to go walking. Overall the club is good, and only 30 minutes from the airport. The only negative is that the mosquitos were biting you where ever you were sitting.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Amazing Resort!

It was a great family vacation from June 25-July 2 2024. The Hotel Sol Rio de Luna y Mares is probably the best resort we visited in Cuba. Very well maintained, clean, perfect layout. Everything is close: lobby bar, pool, restaurants, beach. Beach is amazing (Playa Esmeralda), lots of natural shade, very good place for snorkeling. Food was good (lots of variety), entertainment was good (could be a little longer at night, finishes at 10pm), service was very good, staff was very friendly and we [... read more]lcoming, they go extra mile to make you feel appreciated. We will definitely come back and probably make this resort our Cuban vacation destination in the future.

Every thing was wonderful except for the drinks. They missed out on juice and certain liquor but beyond that we had a great time. Thanks for setting us up with our trip. We will recommend trip central for booking your next vacation. Cheers!!

Paradisus Los Cayos: Very nice spot!

Rooms were clean, water and beer everyday. Amazing beach with crystal clear water. Food was very good no complaints about anything. Beach staff was great and drinks were also very good. The buffet restaurants were very good, quiet time of year.

Melia Internacional: Would recommend

The staff were very friendly. The pool was the cleanest I've ever experienced in all of my years of travelling to the Carribean. Their water park was really cute. My 10 month old baby loved going down the waterslide after watching the bigger kids do it. The beach was clean and the water was crystal clear and calm. They have guys on the beach that will put up a sun umbrella wherever you want so no need to rush down and save a chair in the morning. They sold something in the gift shop that was $20USD. It worked decently but not as good as the deet free off. (I have a baby and breastfeed otherwise I would just used deet, that's how bad it was). Food: there's a lot of options. You can definitely find a few things that you like and can survive off for the week. I highly recommend booking some A-La-Carts for dinner so that you can get more variety. The Cuban restaurant was good. The Japanese was good. The spanish was awful. I did the Tex-Mex twice. The first time it was amazing. The 2nd time it was awful. A negative is that there's cochroaches at the main buffet restaurants. Especially the Rumba. I'm by no means a diva but seeing 30 of them scatter after sitting down on a booth was rough. Avoid the booths at all costs and bang your chairs on the ground first before you sit. Luckily, I didn't see any in the rooms. Just the buffets. If you go into town, Kiki's restaurant has great pasta. 3 plates of pasta and 2 alcoholic drinks came to $28 USD. La Campana restaurant located in Josone Park has great authentic Cuban food. 2 plates (one chicken, one pork) and flan for dessert came to $23USD

Melia Internacional: Lovely Resort

The hotel rooms were clean, the grounds were well maintained, the pool was fantastic and the beach was certainly the highlight of the trip. The ocean water was warm, crystal clear and no seaweed!!! Stayed in room 4145 which had a beautiful view of both the pool and the ocean. The only concern was for 5 consecutive days the key card was not working. Several trips down to the lobby to have the key reactivated which was an inconvenience. The food offered in the buffet was a hit or a miss. Repe [... read more]titive food options, however, they did the best with what food they had. The pasta was good, the mashed curry pumpkin was also very good. Omlettes for breakfast along with fresh mango. Downfall with the buffet was that roaches were seen near the food a few times. Terrible experience at the Japanese a la cart as my party of 2 with reservations arrived first and therefore sat in the front of the grill to watch the chef. The host told us we had to sit as far in the corner as possible due to them having a family who planned to attend. We opted not to move and they decided not to provide a show on our grill. It was what it was!!! The cubian restaurant was decent although the Sampson restaurant was top notch. Really enjoyed the grilled tuna steak on their menu. Customer service representative Joanna was an absolute pleasure. Went above and beyond to ensure we, as guests, enjoyed our stay with Melia Intercational.
