Great for a Three Star

You get what you pay for with this place. The beach is very nice and beautiful and there is lots to do. Be careful though, it is a public beach. I stayed in a standard room which was basic, tv ac. The rooms were generally clean but I would recommend a room upgrade if possible. Staff is generally friendly, hard working but they do bring some of their local friends on the resort...plus some stray dogs running around which I found odd. Definitely take the time to explore this place, the whole resort (it really is massive) and even the market beside has some great vendors. Great vacation, will be back if the price is good again.

Cuba Weather !

The lay out of the resort is great .Staff are very helpful and friendly .Food presentation and variety need improvement in the buffet dining rooms..Bread and buns were not always available at the snack bars. Only one served pizza at lunch times. Ala carte dinners were somewhat better. The repeat client lobster dinner was well attended. People come back to this resort year after year and fill up the rooms.The beach and ocean views are the best feature of this resort.

Club Amigo guardalavace

th e grounds we great, the staff were very friendly , food could have had more variety ,The only thing we did not like was all the smoking in the lobby , I t was a wonder full stay would come back again this was the second time we have stay here , we will be back again

Great value

Grounds are beautifuly kept staff are friendly and helpful. Acmodation is good, we prefer the bungalows. Food is reasonable by Cuban standards , this was our 8th time there and have never been disappointed . The resort has a high rate of return guests ,who we meet every year . Good value for the money . If you expect something fancy please don't go we don't want to hear your complaints .

Great Birthday Getaway

We were booked in to a Standard Room.....what they call the old barracks. It was smaller than my daughters dorm room and much too small for two people. You couldn't even leave your suitcase laying down so you could get at things. We upgraded to a Villa and were much happier. Note, it's cheaper to upgrade while you are there than when you book your trip.....you run the risk of no upgrades being available though. We also met some great people on our trip and the resort was small enough that you would keep running into people you met!

Overall good Good value. The food not as good

The price was very attractive but the hotel rooms in the main building were not very nice.The bungalow and villas are nicer and worth paying little more to move to them. They could do simple things to beef chicken and pork to make them much tastier by just adding onion and little spice. Also the bread which is so simple to make did not tasted good. The ground could simply be improved if they cut the grass every week and plant more flowers similar to the neighboring resort.

Great 3 Star Resort.

The hotel has sections that could be updated and more well kept but it also has sections that resemble a 4 or 5 star hotel. It all depends what you pay and which section you stay in. Bungalows and Villas are 4 or 5 star quality. The Standard rooms are closer to a 2 or 3 Star and the Tropical Hotel rooms are average with a great main lobby and buffet. There are tons of Buffets, Snack Bars and A La Carte restaurants and drink Bars to choose from along with 4 Pools and lots of activities.

The resort was Great

Beach was beautiful, market was great being next door, you could visit daily. The food was ok would have preferred more grills set up so the line isn`t as long to wait. Overall worth the money and the view

Club Amigo is my home away from home

I have visit this resort 5 times since 2014, its been the only resort I have been to in Cuba. The staff is amazing there, so many remember your name, when they see you walk in, they stop what they are doing and come over to give you a hug and see how you are doing. Since I traveled there with my mother who needs a walker to get around, the management knows our needs and they make sure we have a great visit. Some rooms are out dated but we do not go there for the rooms,but always get a good night [... read more] sleep. This resort has many daily/nightly activities for all ages. This resort is feet away from a beautiful beach where I spend alot of time swimming, suntanning and just strolling the shore. The food is good and always a good selection to pick from. This resort is only a 3 star but you need to keep an open mind and remember its Cuba, you cannot compare it to home in Canada. I have made many friends with the Cubans and will always visit Club Amigo in my future.

Well located resort

Been going there five times already,and would go back.stayed at the tropical section but prefer the seaview,Nice little flea market next door,it's a big resort but once you get to know your way around you'll like it. nice beach,pool bar..

OK for 3 Star

Had to be moved 3 times due to serious problems until we upgraded and got a decent room. We were told the upgrade would cost us nothing and when we went to check out they charged us an extra $240 pesos and add 40% to get Cdn equal in dollars

Could be improved

Very large resort with different sections, some of which really need updating. I was very disappointed not to be able to enjoy a Mojito all week due to lack of limes and mint. Come on folks! I've been to Cuba 4 times and to other 3 * resorts, but I found the food here very monotonous. On the upside, the beach is beautiful and my room was very clean. Defiantly get a bungalow or villa room if you plan on going here. Nice to have a daily market close by as well.

Overcrowded!

Flight with Sunwing was delayed. Couldnt get into our room when we got there at 2am as the key didnt work. Got moved down the row a few. We were not put in the correct section that I booked. Safe didnt work, my husband had to fix it. Lone line ups for everything. Full of rude French people and bikers. No shade on main beach. Have to get up at 7am to reserve (pay) for chairs at the private beach. Rude staff who cater to big tippers before anyone else. Shows were mostly loud Cuban music. We didnt  [... read more]complain about anything when we were there... no point and a waste of time lining up to do it, so Im doing it here to warn anyone else from going there.

Disappointed

Room was sparsely furnished, blankets worn, mattresses terrible. Had to pay for bottled water and room safe. Told them my wife has MS yet we were place on a unit farthest from main hotel and dining areas. This was gift and giver felt very bad.

8 times at this hotel butlast trip dissapoinment

1st.room without a seaview 2nd. On 2nd.day i had cancelled at the reception counter the use of the inroom safety box (2cuc. A day) and they still charged me 28 CUC $40+can when chekout time... AND ALSO While waiting for someone to arrive At the hotel entrance while i was leaning against a wooden door frame I also wreked a brandnew $50 t-shirt because they had just repainted IT without any WET PAINT SIGN or WHATSOEVER... I have been to this hotel 8 times in the past , i once been with 14 people a [... read more]nd reffered many others but honnestly think this was the last... They could not admit theyr mistakes...

Another Great Time At Club Amigo Guardalavaca

This is our second visit to the Club Amigo Guardalavaca. We had such a great time the first time that we wanted to go back. The workers are all so nice and are always very attentive. The food was fine, we did not go hungry, infact we ate so much that by the fourth day eating was the last thing on our minds lol. Rooms are always kept clean. The beach was amazing and nice to be able to share with the locals. Pizza restaurant outside of the resort by the market was a great place to go and beer and  [... read more]pizza for under $4 pesos. I would definitely return to this resort just to see my Club Amigo Guardalavaca family again. I miss them all already :-)

The friendly place

This resort is a bit of an old chestnut. Parts of the resort are old and worn, while other parts are being renewed. Excellent location next to the ocean. The service is friendly from an experienced staff.

3rd time visiting

My last two trips to this resort I gave this place a 4 star review because of the great time I had. The staff is for the most part very helpful, the grounds are well maintained and while the buildings themselves are quite old they are clean and functional. My reasoning for going down a star this time is because: 1. The beach needed a little more TLC (seaweed, cups, straws etc all over) and 2. My biggest complaint..they need to get designated smoking areas. Most of the smokers have no regard for  [... read more]the people who don't smoke. I do not like eating my food with smoke coming at me from all directions. I wouldn't want to bring children there to fill their tiny lungs with second hand smoke. I know this isn't really the fault of the hotel as much as it is the ignorant people who think it's ok to force their cigarettes upon everyone else. I will be giving this hotel a break next year, however I will most likely return again.The resort has a lot of potential and is a great spot all in all.

Exceptional resort

The hotel was clean comfortable the staff could've been more friendly and More willing to aid in your problems.. I thought that the staff could have understood better English .. But other then that the beaches we're beautiful the pools and entertainment was great.. Had a great time and would visit again

Nice Resort but...

Not enough staff to keep up very large grounds. Rooms were OK some had need of care like any resort. Food was not good, same all the time and little selection Some bars better than others. NO bar on beach and the beach was Public so locals were always at your side. Not comfortable situation. The Cafe staff were wonderful! Had a good week but would viist another part of Cuba next time.
