Awful, Stay Away

Don't believe the advertisements and save yourself the grief. We will never go to this hotel even if it was free. The hotel is generally dirty. There are bird dropping in the rafters of the hotel lobby and the various restaurants. Look up above your table and decide if you still want to sit where you are. The room was not clean. The air ducts have never been cleaned and are completely clogged. The dishes, glasses and cutlery in the restaurants was often dirty. They blamed the dishwasher but some [... read more] times there was fresh grease and dirt and had not been washed at all. The main pool is tiled and there were many kids the week we were there that cut themselves. Out youngest slashed his foot so bad we had to seek emergency treatment. Patrons stand in the pool all day drinking at the pool bar and never leave. I wonder if the water level in the pool rises over time? We had booked 2 weeks but had to pay to get out one week into our vacation. Air Transat was of no help and neither was TripCentral. The hotel was unresponsive and could care less. Could not even speak to the manager the entire time we were there. You can stay at any number of less expensive resorts in the area and be no worse off.

Wonderful Resort with lots or little to do as you wish

This was my first time in Cuba, first time at an all-inclusive and first time travelling alone. The resort was very large with plenty of activities and things to do, plus large enough if you just wanted to slip away and read a book. The rooms were lovely, the staff warm, friendly and accommodating. The food was as to be expected but there were plenty of options that for a vacation you could find enough variety. Playa Pesquero - 2nd time

The beach is outstanding! The staff are very friendly, great facilities (many tennis courts, handball court, basketball court, jumping castle, gym, soccer court, darts, pool, ping pong, lawn bowling, etc.) Great value. The grounds, nite life and food could be improved. The hotel is starting to look dated, the food at the buffet is very unhealthy. Great resort

Overall the resort is very nice. The people as other resorts are very friendly. The food was very good especially the a la carte restaurants. There were a couple of items that should be addressed. The lights on the walkways were burnt out and require replacement. Not enough staff at the buffet especially when very busy. Phone in room did not work.

Wonderful hotel

Every aspect of Playa Pesquero was worthy of 5* rating. Whole area/beach very clean, the pool was perfect, food excellent, Varied entertainment for all ages and a very warm and friendly staff. Can't wait to return.

Great Resort!

Excellent Food, Beautiful Beach, Great friendly and helpful staff. Big clean pool. All around great resort. Wine was really good as well. We have been twice to this resort and plan on returning again in the future

What happened to this resort?

Please find below a copy of the review I wrote on Tripcentral. I have been going to Cuba for several years now and my last visit was about 5 years ago. I use to go to an adjacent resort and had toured Playa Pesquero on my last visit. At the time I was blown away. It was amazing. From the moment I entered the then spectacular lobby and was graciously escorted by a staff member by golf cart to an extensive tour of the resort. The grounds were well maintained, pools shimmered, all the dining fac [... read more]ilities were spotless, and my favourite was being showed all the different styles of rooms. They were incredible, including the then air conditioning that worked. I promised myself on my next visit to Cuba this is where I was going to stay. Well, BIG MISTAKE!!!! Upon arriving at the airport no one from the resort met us until I made my way to the parking lot and had to ask where to go and what bus to take. Upon arriving to the resort only 2 staff were on duty to check in a bus load of people. We were given a welcome cocktail which was appreciated. I had requested at the time of booking either a beach or pool view on the second floor. I also booked a superior room. I asked at the front desk and was told very close to the pool and yes, my room was on the second floor. SURPRISE, room was on the ground floor and no view at all! Two rooms later I finally did get a second floor room. This room looked NOTHING like what I remembered! It was poorly maintained. Although you could tell it had been painted it was not done well. Any child could have done a better job. It also had a musty smell. The room was also unbearably hot. I checked the A/C and it was set at 16 Celsius, but felt closer to 25 Celsius. Room was also suppose to have a coffee maker, which it did not, towels were like sand paper, closet doors barely opened and closed, balcony door would not lock, patio furniture had seen much better days...... I could go on but you get the point. I did speak to Guest Relations who did apologize but did not see my point with how truly disappointed I was. They did finally get a coffee maker to the room. Although the room was suppose to be made up every day with fresh towels, it was not! I called to at least get some towels and after three phone calls and well over an hour the towels arrived without any apology. I did book 4 of the alternate dining rooms and did enjoy them, but dress code was not enforced. Men are to wear a collared shirt and long pants and this was not enforced. Other resorts would have denied entrance into this dining rooms unless dress code was met. The staff did try their best to make my experience better but what can they really do with a ship that has already sunk? The pools look in good shape (only 1 pool bar) but I decided to spend my time at the beach which was beautiful with white powder sand and crystal clear warm water! I have never ever written anything negative about a trip but this was such a shock to see the current condition of this resort. I was told all my comment I made to Guest Relations would be passed onto the General Manager, which they may have been, but I never did hear anything from them. I would love to see Playa Pesquero return to the breathtaking resort it once was. I continually mentioned to Guest Relations that if Playa Pesquero was going to be hosting our American friends they had better take a long hard look at the current state of the facility. Considering Playa Pesquero is rated as one of the top resorts in Cuba I will be curious to see what happens when American Tourism begins in the very near future..........

A good week with my grandson

I have been to playa pesquero every year at least once and sometimes 2 times a year since 2004 and have grown to be a little fond of the wonderful people who work here. So here is my review. I have seen many changes some good and some bad over the years but still would return because the majority of the staff are wonderful with a few that do not really care. I try to overlook the small stuff and get up and go to the bar for a drink. Food always changing but are good standard. love the a la cartes but the buffet for dinner is not my favorite but better with a young child as the times can be too late for the dinner reservations. The pizza on the beach and at the trattoria was a hit with the young one. Beach as usual was beautiful and was able to find a spot without coming out too early as long as you are not fussy. The pool was clean and enjoyed by all especially access to the pool bar and slushy lemon, bring a mug so you can enjoy a drink instead of the plastic cups. Room was okay, needed some paint and attention and as for the cable there was ongoing issues with the signal but not needed only if raining or just before bed. changes included the gala is now on a wednesday and the carnival was changed to Monday. The market that was recently open down the road in walking distance is no longer there. Can only go to guadalavaca market to shop. Did not seem to have as much entertainment in the lobby. Did not see as much singers/groups as before as well as my main concern is with the golf carts as they are always around when you don't need them but not when you want one. LOL But seriously will continue to be value for your money. I just hope that they do not allow things to deteriorate due to the new section. We had a good time and my grandson first exposure to cuba and wants to return.

Phenomenal Resort

An amazingly safe, friendly, beautiful resort. We all had the phenomenon vacation. Fantastic and honest staff👌🏿 Extermely good food with lots of varieties. Lots of outdoor activities, family friendly lobby, clean swimming pools, fantastic medical care facilities and many more great features and amenities 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 Highly recommended to friends and family, keep up the good work.

Beautiful beach!

We didn't get a good service at the buffet. Lacking of staff at the hotel. Food was ok. Beach was cristalline and lovely! Hotel is large, clean and nice ground. By the way, it's a public beach so a lots of Cubans were there and it was nice to see them.

Big surprise!

We love the beach at Playa Pesquero. Food is the same in Cuba but the restaurants a la cartes are surprisingly good. A lots of birds though. The biggest surprise that there was almost no mosquitoes during the week of July 11-18. Maybe there was no rain so we were lucky. Overall, we would go back for the beach for sure.

Very Good Resort

We have been here 9 times. Everything about this hotel is great except this is the first time that there was a mosquito problem. During our 7 days we only saw the mosquito spraying truck just once. On previous trips we noted that the spraying was twice per day at 6AM and 6PM. I hope that the new owners of this resort are not economizing on mosquito spray at the expense of the comfort of the guests.

First time in Cuba did not disappoint!

Traveled at the beginning of May 2016, group of 6, ages ~23. Hotel was located about an hour from the Holguin airport. This is not a big party resort! Received a drink upon arrival. Quick check-in and check-out. Clean rooms with cute towel and bed designs each day. Rooms (block 11) were ~5min walk to hotel lobby, but you can take advantage of the golf cart pick-up and drop off for locations across the resort. Food was great! There was always something new to try. Favourite restaurants were Ro [... read more]mantico, Caribbean, and Italian - least favourite was the Seafood (meals were overcooked imho). Pool was beautiful, lots of sun and shade to go around. Busiest area was near the swim-up bar and games pool. Beach was small, but lots of loungers to spread out on. We were able to snorkle off the shores in crystal clear waters. The resort staff take such good care of everyone! They remembered who we were and our drink orders, plus they always had a spare moment for some salsa dancing! Nightly entertainment was good, same group of dancers each day. Highly recommend the aqua ballet. Excursions: we did the Island Paradise - long journey (1.5h bus ride, 1.5h catamaran to island +return), beautiful island, good snorkeling, safari was ok (animals were not native to the island).

Best Cuba trip !

This was our 9th vacation to Cuba...the BEST one. We had been to Playa Pesquero before, in 2003. This time we were guests in the relatively new addition to the resort ; the Premium Section. Absolutely a 5star place to stay. High end accommodations, very good food, top notch drinks and well trained and friendly staff. We'll be back...for sure !

Mixed reviews

Room was in rough shape, cleaners did a good job whoever. Only good ala cart was the Caribbean, was sooo good. Rest were adequate. Buffet food was as expected not crazy good not completely terrible, whoever the buffet servers were quite snooty we found. We tipped and were polite but they seemed like we were a bother to them. Fedel the pool bar guy was my main man is an extremely good bartenders and server. Love that guy. Other then that we had a great time due to company and weather.

Not as good as it used to be

Grounds are still beautiful, rooms very outdated for 4 1/2 star hotel, lot of food ,not too many new dishes, no shower on the beach, pool was taken care of but even majority people were on the beach, it was littered and not taken care of?

Nice Resort

The food was very good. The staff, very polite and helpful. The pools were lovely and clean. The beach area was nice. I got sick the last day and was bedridden for a week with a stomach virus. I don't know if anything was going around the resort, but I guess it could happen anywhere.

This resort is amazing, we loved it.

We have been to this hotel before, but they always keep updating things, like the lobby area and also have included more snacks thru out the day along with pitchers of water sitting out for you to help yourself to which is great.

Dated Resort

Everything was clean and the staff is very friendly but the rooms we were in are very dated with bathtub that has rust showing through and the fixtures are ild and could use replacing or at least fixing.
