Las Dunas overbooked - we got Bumped!

spent the week at Melia Cayo Santa Maria. It was smaller than Las Dunas and for me was a better set up - tennis next to lobby, bigger less crowded beach than Las Dunas, More mature foliage around the pool. Excellent service and good food - I certainly cannot complain. A wonderful break from Canada's cold.

Beautiful and friendly resort!

All the time when we are going on vacation to Cuba we know in advance that it will be friendly staff and beautiful maintaining resort. Returning just few days ago from Melia Las Dunas we got everything what we expected. Food was amazing with a lot selection of meat, fish, good cheese and other food. At lunch time at Sea Food restaurant you can get amazing grilled fish and calamari that you never ever eat before! The room vas pretty big and always sparkles after visit of cleaning lady. Resort is  [... read more]divided to two sections: family/kids swimming pool and adult pool that gives you an opportunity to choose whatever you prefer to go. The small market on the end of resort was very cute and full of souvenirs. The most impression was a scuba diving trip! The Scuba Diving centre was with new equipment and very professional team. And not so expensive as you may pay in other countries. It was a great week of vacation for my family!

Nice Resort, but a couple disapointments

My Fiancé and I travelled to Cuba the week of January 4th-11th, 2015. The resort was very nice, and well placed and the pools were beautiful. It is my first time going to Cuba so I was pre-warned about the food, but it really wasn't that bad. The fish from the buffet is really tasty and so is the Pizza and the pasta from the fresh pasta bar. In the bigger buffet area they have more of a selection, not really foods I like to eat but we definitely did not starve. The snack bar by the adult pool [... read more] is by far the best (much better then the 24 hour beer garden snack bar). The food was always hot and fresh and tasty, whereas the same foods being served at the beer garden snack bar were always cold and kind of stale tasting. The a la carts were just OK, Mexican being my least favourite (service not the greatest, not very friendly, kind of rushy), the Italian and Romantica being the best. Italian had great service and good food/wine, same with Romantica but they also had an amazing pianist playing and dancers who also came in. Cons: The pool was beautiful but very cold. The day we arrived we went to get beach towels, but were told they had none. When we asked when they would get more, they didn't know (today, tomorrow, next week???)! We ended up getting some towels the next day, but only because we waiting in line for 15 minutes at 8:00 a.m. and they were out again by noon. We only got fresh towels twice the whole week. If you want a seat by the pool (beach was red flagged all week due to winds), you must go early or there will be no spots left. No hot water in the room for three days! this was inconvenient considering it is a five star resort. No French fries for three days! No Pizza the one day! The room was clean but I did find a cockroach in my suitcase on the third day. We were on the main level, so perhaps that's how it got into our room. Service was good ... most of the time! There was one bartender in particular who just looked right through me every time I went to order a drink, keep in mind I was tipping every single time I ordered something. The other staff was good and attentive but just the one bartender was not very friendly, I think he was sick. Pros: Maid was excellent, very sweet, cleaned our room and made nice things with our curtains everyday. Beach is stunning Carlos from the Buffet is awesome, very friendly and provided excellent service Misleidy from the Buffet was also amazing, very sweet and provided great service. The resort was easy to get to accustomed to, the main lobby was in the centre of everything. The night time shows were excellent ... a lot of fun. Cappuccinos and specialty coffees = Amazing I liked that they had an adult pool side, it made it very relaxing to sit by the pool Overall a nice relaxing vacation, I think the resort likely overbooked for the resources they have available to accommodate and for this reason I likely wouldn't return to this resort. I think had it not been so busy, the "cons" of our trip probably could have been avoided!

Beautiful beach

We just stayed at MLD over New Years 2015. The hotel was very clean, very nice. The people were extremely friendly. The food was a little underwhelming but we didn't really care about that. We would definitely go back. The beach was so amazing and as the resort was so huge we always had something to do. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

Perfect!

the people were so friendly from the food service to the grounds keepers, everyone was amazing! the resort property was clean and the whole resort exceeding my expectations. Our buffet service was awesome with our breakfast guy looking for us every morning and having a table ready. The beach service and bar service was just as good!

Excellent Last Minute Trip

We booked on Saturday morning leaving on Wednesday. Price was incredible and Trip Central was fantastic in coordinating the arrangement. The facilities were excellent. The beach was superb, the service was excellent. Kids enjoyed every minute of the stay. My wife and I had a relaxing 7 days in the sun. We would certainly go back to this resort in the future. The d [... read more]rive from the airport to the resort is approx. 1.5 hrs but worth every minute as you get to see the beautiful country side. Great resort for families and adults as they have 2 pools to cater to both segments.

Better than I expected!

The beaches are amazing. Pools, daily exercise, dancing are very uplifting. Food is good, lots of variety. Lobby is grand, rooms are clean, staff are friendly. A very relaxing trip. Heard lots of negative story about the trip to Cuba, experience no negative things, such as bug bites, bad food. Enjoyed the tennis court, sports center.

Well worth the visit

A very big place. But don't worry there is lots of transportation, great if you like walking or running. I don’t know why some people moan about the food . Breakfast 8 types of fresh fruit , pancakes, crepes, smoothies, yogurt, cereal, 3 egg stations plus hot and cold tables. What do people have on a normal day. 3 days a week all you can eat lobster at the main area or beach bar. Enough of food I think you get the picture. Activities…dance lessons, good yoga (Daniel Animador will give you a  [... read more]good work out), good gym, the evening dancing with live music is great. Great long beach room for everyone and plenty of lounge chairs for all. The pool again room for everyone and plenty of lounge chairs for all this was in the November and December time period. The pool bar is staffed by Claudia, Jaisery and Javier the will take great care of you. The staff everywhere is very accommodating and attentive. If you like scuba the diving near by is good and the staff top notch.. For beginners they will do everything to help make sure you have a good dive experience. Good safety practices. One thing I wish they would do is take the lead to ban smoking in the main bar area. It is sickening to be having a drink at the bar and people lite up.. At home the would have to go outside in 20 below so why not at 30 degrees. (You won't see the staff smoking in these areas. )

Better luck next time

Great room. Buffet left a lot to be desired but al a carte great. Too large For us will pick a smaller resort next trip. Beach was unimpressive. Location of room very important. Lots to do for all ages. Entertainment was good.

Very Nice Hotel Melia Les Dunes in Cuba

Our 12 days vacationing ending December 11, 2014, in all inclusive hotel Melia Les Dunes, Cuba was excellent. It was all above our expectation. Lots of sun, peace...Clean and well kept room, swimming pools, tennis courts, Atlantic beach... and above all service in the restaurants. Congratulation to the hotel personnel. We are already planing with our friends to stay at the resourt again.

Amazing

Check-in was quick & simple & then we were escorted to our suite. Absolutely beautiful accomodations. My sisters wedding was on the beach here & the staff knew our names immediately. We were constantly asked if we needed anything or if they could assist with anything. Breakfast every morning was great! something good for everyone! The grounds, the pool, the spa - just lovely! The beach was clean and the views breathtaking. We will be going back for another awesome experience! No complaints whats [... read more]oever! You will love it!

Everything was good except the food.

Very beautiful place, well managed and friendly staff. My only complaint is that the food has very little seasoning. Most food lacks flavor. Pasta is boring, and the means are barely seasoned. I did enjoy it however.

Pleasantly Surprised

I have been to Cuba before and enjoyed myself but didn't enjoy the food. I was told you don't go to cuba for food. This resort was amazing! I never went hungry. The food was always fresh and they had a variety of different things! The staff was amazing and very helpful. We went for a wedding which was a little unorganized but overall the trip was fun!

Awesome resort

When I have been to Cuba before, the food was not the greatest. However this time around the god was amazing! It was great in every restaurant and also amazing throughout the night I I the wee hours of the morning. However, the entertainment could have been better, however it was still entertaining!

Woderful Place to Stay!

Excellent Service from very friendly staff in all areas of the resort. The al a Carte restaurants were very good, and the Grill on the beach at Lunch was always a great place to eat with fresh Calamari, Lobster, Chicken and Pork everyday!

Satisfactory.....needs a facelift

I found the resort too large for my liking. The bathrooms are in major need of updating. The adult pool was very nice. The food was good for Cuba standards. The staff for the most part were very friendly and accommodating. I found you had to "ask' for items especially at the A la cartes....had to ask for guacamole, had to ask for margarita, had to ask for sake, had to ask.....these things should be offered.

Beautiful resort

The resort was beautiful. The grounds were landscaped beautifully with gardeners out everyday. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The pool and the beach were amazing. The food I would rate as poor. The food was not hot and was sometimes not cooked well enough. Overall I would recommend this resort to someone who wants to get away from it all and to relax on a beach and who is not really interested in eating that much.

Almost amazing!

- need more 24hr restaurants - food was ok, always ask for well done or your food will be raw - tiny, minuscule ants in the washroom of our room - most of the staff was friendly and terrific (Yunel at the buffet, Lazara at the pizzeria, Roberto at the lobby bar, and most of the gardeners ant fantastic) - entertainment could be better - grounds are beautiful (clean and well kept) - need a power adapter (no one told us this before going) - far bus ride to the resort from the airport

Amazing

The whole trip was amazing the staff were very friendly.the rooms were very clean and the food was everything we ever wanted.The grounds were kept very well groomed.Not a bad thing to say about this resort and we will be going back again

A great relaxing time

We really enjoyed this first time ever to an all inclusive resort. We are backpackers so this was a lovely pampered, restful change of pace. Highly recommend going mid November. Excellent price! Hot sunny weather. The resort was approximately half full and service was very good. Staff were always trying to please us, other resorters were so nice. Our building 47 second floor room was quiet, had a view of water, was close to the quiet adult pool and beach, and only 5 min walk to lobby and restaur [... read more]ants. The evening entertainment was very good. Lobby morning coffee drinks were to-die-for. Our room was clean, there was always something delicious for us to eat (I'm a vegetarian), and the bar drinks were super delish! The beach is the best on the strip of local resorts. Thanks to Teresa Gates at Trip Central for recommending Melia Las Dunas Santa Maria to us!
