Disappointed unfortunately ...

This was our first trip to Cuba and were very excited for the experience - we even paid more for our ocean view room. When we got there we had to wait in line for about an hour to just check in. Once we got our room it wasn't even fully clean, there was hair shavings in the sink still, our balcony door was broken so extremely difficult to open. The worst part was that our air conditioner was not working and when we turned the fan on it was also broken. This made the room unbearable in the extrem [... read more]e heat. Myself or my boyfriend were unable to sleep for 7 days because of the heat. When I asked for a new room they told me that there was only one room available and it was twin beds no ocean view. I asked for a mechanic to come fix the AC in my room and no one ever showed up to fix this. The next day after the maid cleaned our room we had two toilet paper roles but for some reason they took one of them and let us only have one. On our last day we had our do not disturb sign on the door and the maid knocked once and I ran to the door but she had already barged in to ask us when we were leaving. Also they closed one of the pools our whole trip and that pool had piles of comfier chairs so we went to drag some over to the other pool and were yelled at saying we could not take those chairs they are for the other pool. We offered to put the chairs back after and they said no put them back now. So instead we got to lie on plastic chairs with no cushion to them for the whole trip. I know this is all negative but I was very disappointed in my experience at- had our room been air conditioned and we were able to at least sit on the comfortable chairs after the amount we paid then my experience could have been better. Cuba beaches are unlike any other - gorgeous, I wish I was able to write a more positive note :( was really looking forward to that vacation and paid a lot for it.

Resort that needs maintenance and improvment

The hotel is located in a very nice location in Varadero. Food selection is good but lack in flavour, it is bland and not easy to get some seasoning to spice the food. Service in the main dining room is very slow. There might have some dishwashers' issues as plates coming out to the dining area are not properly washed, brought this to a staff attention but nothing happened. Beautifull resort....very clean and friendly

this resort was amazing....staff and service was great ...rooms were very nice ....beach was flawless and excursions were reasonably priced....they had a great variety of food selection and the restaurants were excellent....we would definitely go there again...we are already talking about it !!!!!

The resort was beautiful

The staff was really nice and very friendly, the hotel nice & clean the entertaining was amassing, varies drinks and lot of interlining at the lobby area, Our vacation experience was unique love to come back to Iberostar Laguna Azul Varadero Cuba,

Good value, good service, people were really great

Enjoyed our stay. The beach and pool were amazing. Service was really good. The only complaint we had was the washroom by the pool was not always maintained with toilet paper and smelt like an outhouse. Meals were ok, but they say you don't go to Cuba for the food.

Great resort!

Hi! We were at the resort the end of September,, the resort was clean, great cuisine and like always great friendly staff. I totally recommend it, I will certainly go back..Minor issue for couples with young children no air conditioning in the kiddy center, but great baby sitters. Thank you!

Great resort, friendly staff, amazing beaches!

With the hotel being less than 6 years old, we were surprised to find that it could definitely use some freshening up. Towels are as old as the hotel, and they smell, many things in the rooms were not in working order ... However, the cleaning staff was great, and the rest of the staff was incredible! Overall, great trip and beautiful hotel!

Good Resort

- Hotel was great - Room is comfortable enough - Front desk (reception) workers are very aggressive and not a good service provider - Gardeners are very polite and always say hello (they gave flowers to my wife so made our stay that much enjoyable) - Bar tenders and food servers in the buffet were very friendly - House keepers (hotel room cleaners) didn't clean properly at all and when we asked they were very rude (but its not a deal breaker) - Beach and pools were great - Buffet was great but g [... read more]ot food poisoning at one of the restaurant that we booked for an evening out (Cuban Restaurant)

Amazing Vacation at Iberostar Laguna Azul

My family of 4 traveled to Iberostar Laguna Azul. The staff are very friendly and polite. The beach was AMAZING! Laguna Azul has the best beach in my opinion. The resort's nightly shows at the theatre were very entertaining. Loved it! The staff kept us entertained at the beach and the pool, lots of fun dancing and games! The resort was very clean and well maintained. We stayed in adjoining rooms in building 18, the rooms were very clean and offered views of the ocean, main pool and main building [... read more]. We loved the ice cream parlour by the pool on the way to the beach. We had a great time at Iberostar Laguna Azul and would definitely recommend it.

Cuba experience

Good in average, nice beach and experience. I like Iberostar Hotels and Laguna Azul was interresting in despite of the food. Goock bar and cocktails at the floor but less good in the pool. Thanks for sunwing group

Very nice resort.

I don't like the hotel rooms because of the humid smells coming from the walls that get on the pillows and beds.But aside from that everything else in the resort was bietiful especially lunch beside the beach.

Good resort

Wow! Great great place to stay if you ever think of going on vacation to Cuba it's an awesome fun exciting place to be if your going with family, friends, or that special someone ;) . Food is good, the workers always do there best looking to make you feel at home and it's just a beautiful hotel!

Big disappointment

My husband and I, together with another couple of friends, booked this hotel for 10 days, from Aug 28 to Sept 7. The hotel was highly recommended by another couple of friends, who vacationed there several times. The hotel complex is beautiful, the rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable, and the beach is divine. We had lots of fun at t [... read more]he Japanese restaurant. However, there are many not satisfactory things, for which we will not come back to this hotel in the future: 1. We arrived at the hotel around 3 pm, and had to wait for almost two hours to check-in. It seemed that they were overbooked, the stuff was confused…. Finally, a very nice lady at the reception (Marinela – Mara) took us over, apologized for the delay and checked us in. 2. The rooms, the sheets and the towels have a very bad smell – stale, and musty. Both we and our friends experienced this, in both sets of rooms. The sheets were clean, no doubt, but the smell from them was awful. When we complained, we were told that they had problems with the laundry provider… but it seems that has been a case for a while….it felt like they did not use any detergent, or the worst kind of the detergent. The same was with towels…. they looked worn out, with that awful lingering odor, like 15 years old at least. At first, we were given only bath sheets, no hand/face towels… we had to complain to get a second set of smaller towels for face. Then, in 10 days, the towels were never replaced. 3. The restaurant was another story…. in the first few days, when the hotel was fully booked, there were no plates available, we had to wait for them for 10 minutes. When some of the guests left, the situation with the plates was better. However, many times, the plates were dirty. Then, lots of flies, all over the buffet… disgusting….the food was not comparable to a five star hotel… three stars the most, and I am being very generous…. no salt and pepper shakers on the tables ever…. tables not ready for the guests, we had to chase the staff constantly to set a table for four of us….there was prosciutto only one evening when they gave us questionnaire sheets to rate the hotel and its service… needless to say, it was very insulting, it felt like bribery… the restaurant at the beach was the same story… 20 minutes wait for chicken at the BBQ… 4. Public washrooms…. no toilet seats and no toilet paper very often! Why? 5. Finally… the staff…. if you did not tipped them off, you will wait for them to show for 10-15 minutes…. the bar at the reception: no ashtrays at all… this is a hotel where people are allowed to smoke, and I cannot understand why there are no ashtrays on every table.

GOOD TIMES RESORT

IT WAS NOT MY FIRST TIME AT THIS RESORT AND IS STILL AN IMPRESSIVE HOLIDAY SPOT IN CUBA. I WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH A LITTLE WITH THE SERVICE THIS TIME, AND ALSO THE SEE VIEW I PAID FOR WAS NOT SEA VIEW AND THAT WAS BECAUSE THE HOTEL WAS FULL; REGARDLESS I DID NOT LIKE THAT... BUT OVERALL IT IS A GREAT PLACE; WILL I RETURN? YES, BUT WILL NOT BOOK SEA VIEW TO AVOID BEEN DISAPPOINTED, I WILL TRY TO UPGRADE UPON ARRIVAL.

Not good

Like the country but the hotel is poor,the main dining room was the worse, no plates, dirty table, no cutlery, I almost pass out because of the heat in the dining room. The service from the front lin staff was poor they never have the answer to any questions, just to get a towel was a problem L.. oh an the towels always smell like pie.

Not recommended

Iberostar Laguna Azul is far from a 4 1/2 star Resort. The food is horrible I survived on flat bread cheese pizza and French fries for a week. No room service, went to grab a bit of food for my son to take back to the room for him and asked for plastic cutlery , waited 10 mins or so and spotted the waitress elsewhere, so there was my answer I grabbed cutlery from the buffet and proceeded out and got stopped like I was a theif and they took the cutlery and expected to have us eat like animals . I [... read more] went after her and demanded to speak with a manager , I waited 10 mins and was told I had permission to take the cutlery as long as I brought it back. The wifi is horrific you need to go to the front foyer where u purchase a wifi card and the allowable time is from 9-2 that's it, no service elsewhere at anytime. I was not at all satisfied with this Resort , would not recommend it or any other one in Cuba, stay away from there, The immigration officer I had when I arrived was horrific, I didn't realize I had to fill out the Spanish side of the Visa so I grabbed my pen to fix it and he yelled and said no go to the end of the line , I went to the side and he banged on the Window , I couldn't believe how I was being treated like a hardened criminal.

Amazing Resort

We meet "Super Sexy" Nancy and Adrian, they were fantastic entertainment reps by the pool and beach. We have a wonderful time at this resort, staff was friendly. The food in the main buffet was okay, needed to be a bit more variety.

Not worth it

The resort is way over rated. The food is disgusting, the service is poor, the bed sheets and linen stink, some staff are ignorant and not courteous at all especially at the pool bar and the restaurant, they have an attitude that they are the best, the locals and tour guides are always milking the Canadians for tips they don't deserve, the hotel is cutting back on supplies and repairs and starting to show signs of aging. Very nice resort.

The beds were very hard, we couldent get a clean beach towel, and the room service bought us burnt toast with our sandwich. The hotel is very beautiful and well set out, the buffay is very nice, the alacat restaurants were very busy, we couldent get all to try out.

Run down- horrible!

Been to cuba many times, stayed at this resort twice before and really liked it . Was just there two weeks ago, it was so bad that we were moved to another resort. The rooms were horrible, the food was by far the worst we had in Cuba .
